    Oh the irony of Rowen being the metagamer. It took Rob forever to get him straight about how barbarian rage works in the VLDL D&D game. Rob even mentions how he was brought into the scene to explain to Bodger how that all works. It was hilarious to watch. Now Rowan is the rules guy quoting page and paragraph about the rules and how actions work vs. bonus actions.

      And a tip of the hat to you, Rob, for insisting that the skits are plausible for D&D. I'm new to 5th Edition and a lot of what I know about the game initially came from watching you and the VLDL players and consulting the rules. Thanks for that!

    Thanks Rob for reposting the D&D Logic BTS streams to CZcams.
    It not only shows the massive amount of work going into creating one of the skits, but highlights the talent/professionalism/creativity of all those involved - particularly impressive is the mutual respect and admiration evident in these streams.
    The process from inception as scripted idea (in Courier 12 pt font 😉) through revisions, contingency planning onsite, working around constraints and artistic expression (and sometimes director's exasperation?), post production voice-overs / touching up / editing makes for fascinating viewing.
    The posting on 4 September (by one of our co-noobs) to our newly founded D&D WhatsApp group (still need to play first game 🙄) of the VLDL Facebook link to this particular D&D Logic Episode - led me to discover VLDL (and starting a 2 month CZcams binge watch of all things related, including RHGM content - the latter prompted by your rather hilarious & "shameless" plugging of your own channel in one of the NPC D&D sketch's outros 😂).
    I did not want to post, but the Xvarts made me do it ... (thanks for the introduction)

    It's a pity, that there is no sketch about unlucky dice rolls, for instance when Ben in VLDL D&D series failed some dice rolls on actions, that would have a 100% success rate in real life. I think it would be hilarious to visualize some of those as I, myself, am one of those 1-rollers. However great work on this particular series, even more seeing how many details it is hiding, I love it !

    just wondering, Rob, I understood correctly: one of the identical brothers (Fagrim) fought on the side of the orcs, and Tagrim is the orc slayer. Did they fight against each other?

    • @kpr2
      @kpr2 Před 2 lety +1

      They both claim to be orc hunters (thus the dirty look Tamika's character gives Fargrim). Everything else other than their name is identical, at least from what we get to hear. Quality silliness! :)

    Robert - I have found the deep dive into the behind the scenes fascinating
    As I have been late to the party, I'm assuming that you did one of these "behind the scenes" after each episode upload?
    Because, upon hearing your explanation for Episode 1, what has appeared in all the later episodes makes much more sense now
    I can't wait to watch your BTS for Rules Lawyer 😁😁😁
    I also loved the insight about Content Creators and Content Viewers i.e. the two cakes
    Because - indeed - as a content viewer, i just want to watch things that entertain me and make me laugh - so the more funny positive content the better

      It's a law.

    • @RobertHartleyGM
      @RobertHartleyGM  Před 2 lety +5

      But also, Dwarves (the mythological ones) come from Norse culture, the Norse invaded Britain and stuck around in the north (Scotland), so maybe there's something there.
      Also Scottish is way easier to mimic than Norwegian...

      @@RobertHartleyGM My curiosity got the better of me and I did a little research. Take this with a grain of salt because there was no real definitive source I could find, but it seems that dwarfs sound Scottish because the cultural stereotypes of the Scots seemed to be similar to that of dwarfs. At least that was the consensus of the articles I read. Its also why elves always sound like English royals. Cultural stereotypes. This is of course based on how Tolkien wrote dwarfs and elves.

    Dude.. What are you on about ''fir bolg'' and hairy prosthetics? the Fir Bolg were a _people_ , the name means ''Men of the Bags'' they came from the East with magical bags of herbs and trinkets. they were not beasts or animals... you want a Celtic myth-monster to walk around your world? there's quite a few in Gaelic and Celtic Myth, but the Fir Bolg were folk.. and good folks at that. the worst two monsters of Celtic tales (besides the soul-freezing Banshee) are the sea-dwelling, multi-formed, Fomorians and the swamp-dwelling carnivorous horse-like beasts, the Kelpies. Maybe you got Fir Bolg and Fomorian mixed up... but even at that, a Fomorian in a monster form would look more like the creature from the black lagoon than a hairy land- thing. However - the Fir Bolg were good and plain men who dressed humbly ... they're who the Celts' fables say they learned medicine (among other stuff) from. If a Fir Bolg were to feature in your games without insulting Celtic heritage he'd be a healer/artificer/bard, adept at medicine, navigation, leather-working, beer making, and oratory- probably carrying a small sack full of traded goodies and devices from distant lands - and a simple, but expertly hewn hunting spear would be his 'staff'.. they DID know war of course, the whole world knows war... but Diplomacy was their way... they EVEN made a treaty with the Fomorians on behalf of the Old Gods, thus saving the Celtic Gaels of Ireland from annihilation... and preserving the memory of the Tuatha De-Dannan for all time (somewhat.. lol).
    Since you piqued my 'wrath' lol.. Some advice on Nessie in case you ever wanna borrow her too.. Nessie is ALSO not a _monster_ She's utterly benign, and in fact to see her is a subtle blessing, obviously if you goad her like a certain monk who claimed to banish her did, she'll totally fight you, but she's not an aggressor toward humans, and will in fact guide fishermen to shoals of salmon and save drowning farm dogs... (not drowning sheep though.. she'll just eat those.).. and Aye.. *she.. Nessie's a lassie.

      I am fascinated to hear how you found yourself watching a D&D content creator's video of himself watching a D&D comedy skit he wrote with a comedy group about D&D Logic without realising you're watching D&D, but let me give some context.
      In real world mythology, Fir Bolg may well be what you mentioned of them. But in Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition, the 'Firbolg' are a fantasy race of vaguely humanoid hairy people standing about 8 feet tall and living as guardians of the forest. They also are often depicted with roughly bovine facial features, though this is contentious with older players who remember them being simply giants in earlier editions.
      Hope this clears it up!
      p.s. Fomorians are also monsters in the game but I am willing to bet you won't like what they've done with them!

      @@RobertHartleyGM I found you via the mythological and cultural preservation activities I'm engaged in, games and my general interest in DnD.
      So basically what you're saying is - ''We don't care about your heritage, we're stealing elements and changing them willy-nilly, because we don't give a hoot if people get false info and wrong ideas about what words mean, In fact, DnD is habitually engaged in a Disney style of mythological abuse, so suck it up.''
      ?
      Yeah..
      No, your comment hasn't ''cleared things up'' it's defending deliberately obtuse lies.
      (And FYI- - Lamia are from Greek Myth, they're Serpentine. They're a race like the Naga, Lamia isn't a _Job_ . )

      @ThomasMuirAudionaut Oh, okay. I can see you're very passionate about this and quite upset at how D&D chooses to use mythology. I also see you're rather rude. So I'm not engaging anymore. Good day.

    • @ThomasMuirAudionaut
      @ThomasMuirAudionaut Před 12 dny

      @@RobertHartleyGM rudeness, as you know, is merely part of Scots culture... It came about as a side effect of being treated ignorantly by folk who do things which demean us without even noticing how rude THAT is.
      No, I'm not upset, I'm disappointed that certain, particular mythic elements with very rich detailed natures are used to represent entirely opposite imaginary things. You'd not do the same to First Peoples or Native American mythic characters, You're a decent bloke who'd find that a bit colonialist and ignorant, right? Well it actually is no different for Celtic mythology, you can't just steal names off an ancient culture on a whim, or make good guys bad guys, especially when the mythic being in question is a key figure or hero of ancient sacred tales OR (in the case of the Lamia) a well-established and quite famous entity with aspects and features commonly known throughout ''the west''. It's a wee bit stupid AND plagiaristic.
      I'm sorry if you felt insulted, but you at least have an inkling how offensive turning the fir bolg to your whim is.
