It looked like a parody of a 90's anime, but the writing did not make light of that or recognize it at all. Way off. But I also dislike magic fights in general.
Magic works way better in series like Avatar: TLA, Star Wars (sequel trilogy excepted), etc because there are limitations and rules imposed onto a system that makes some semblance of sense... and connects to the themes of the broader world.
Part of what I like about DuckTales is that it crams absolutely everything together: robots, aliens, mummies, curses, whatever. Magica and Lena don't land for me because they seem to have the weakest concept; their powers can be so vague. They suffer the most from the sheer fact that they're not McDucks and nobody has time to write their abilities into a core part of the world.

@@B463L Well, this is fair. How's about someone who has all of the time in the world to make rules? Someone like my dear friend EmperorBoo, who is the embodiment of the orderly side of my mind, and gLiTcH, who is chaotic emotions personified? I mean, just tell me, wouldn't you hire those two to create a magic system?
Oh, and before you tell me their not real people, then your saying I'm not a real person. I am, I just have a different way of looking at the world around me. And anyway, at least this fantasy is better than what the denizens of Wonderland, Jevil and Spamton and later on Mike and potentially Gaster, the SCP Foundation, and more or less the Backrooms does with their own Canon characters. And I would be more fun with my approach to video-creation, because I actually apply what I am thinking into a Wile E Coyote/Bad Piggies type of Cartoon simulation, instead of just sitting back and talking about it like what some more average CZcamsrs do with the thousands of Video Essays, reviews, analysis, and more out on the internet that I find personally comforting like the most average home-comfort breakfast bread that I could possibly have. And yet, I believe that better can be done, and thus, better I shall do!
Both of these two paragraphs are the product of someone with very below average comment writing skills, please... I don't know, tell me how to edit them better before you make any harsh judgements? Especially tell me how to make a better disclaimer and on how to better talk/critique other CZcamsrs videos, because I can notice that you've made a great point, and I am just chucking ideas at a wall and hoping to see something stick.

My favorite implication of this episode isn't stated outright, and Sean never touched on it. But I think we can fairly safely say that, after the events of the episode, Magica has her magic back. Her amulet/staff got knocked out of her hands, and dropped into the swamp. And then everyone else left. So that staff is right there, outside her house. In fairly shallow water. Once everyone else is gone, I think it's a safe conclusion that she fairly quickly dug it out. However long it took, she got it back, and now has her magic fully back.

I definitely think there's something to the blue eyes thing - the writers have said this season is about legacy, and Boyd & Lena both succeeded in creating a new legacy from a dark past, after which they gained blue eyes. As for the episode, the only other thing I wish is that they'd been more consistent with the amulet - the amulet is fused with Lena in "Friendship Hates Magic", and then doesn't appear again until this episode, but everyone acts as if it's been there the whole time since Lena came back. If the Phantom Blot's first attempt to take Lena's magic had resulted in the amulet being pulled from her body, that would have kept the continuity while still giving Lena the means to separate her aunt's magic from her own. It's too bad, because this episode has great continuity otherwise - Lena's flashbacks were so moving, and her magic being permanently blue, after two seasons of switching between blue and purple, was a nice way to tie her arc together.

Actualy, and to whomever it might interest, here is TL/DR version of (old) comic canon reason Gladstone is so lucky:
When Grany Duck was pregnant with his mother Daphne, they sheltered a wanderer from the storm on the farm, and he (the wanderer) in gratitude painted their barn and put a good luck rune or design or something on it. And when Elvira was delivering Daphne, she did so in that barn. I think that also lightning struck the barn at the luck symbol at the same time, and Daphne Duck got born with the blessing of luck, which Gladstone who shared his mother's birthday, also inherited
Also, and this is just for me: I really, really want an episode that deals exclusively with young Scrouge, his sisters, and the Duck/Coot family, with Hackamore, Daphne and Eider front and center.
I think it would be awesome to compare and contrast the previous and current generations.
Like, Hackamore is supposed to be the oldest and just as temperamental as his children, but what if we imagine him as the responsible and grounded of his siblings, to make comparison further down to Hewy, than have the blessed, lucky Daphne be, as the girl, comparable to Della in character, and have her be the adventurous type like Della and Dewy and contrasting Gladstone by having the same luck, but none of the laziness and smarminess and the rest of his negative characteristics, and finally have Eider be Lewie like and materialistic to contrast with Fethry's earnestness and, well, Fethry-ness?
Or something completely different, but I believe you could derive a great story out of it. Many great stories.

What if Lena isn't "really" Magica's niece, but a recreation of her.
We know that Magica is old, really old considering some things. Well, what if something happened that she lost a sister and niece before delving into, well, insanity and magic...Lena being a recreation of her niece might be a potential thing there.

So far, they have several times said that Lena is Magica’s shadow. I assume it to be literal, perhaps Lena looks like a young Magica, but they could still easily take it in multiple directions.
Also a note, Uncle/Aunt is often used as an honorary title to family friends, so Aunt Magica doesn’t necessarily mean a blood relation. Though I then question why Lena would choose to honor Magica with a title, but then I know people who truly hate their parent but can’t help feeling love because of the familia link, so I get it. And why not Mom- creators often treat thief creations as their children.
I’m excited to see where this story goes next.

One thing I will say about the new 'DuckTales' is how they were able to use Gladstone alot more than in the original 'DuckTales'. For the record, Gladstone only appeared in two episodes of the old series. 'Dime Enough For Luck', and 'Dr. Jeckle & Mr. McDuck'. (Three if you count a small background cameo in 'Till nephews Do Us Part'.) But out all these episodes, 'Dime Enough For Luck' was where Gladstone got the most screen time, and was the primary focus. It also shares a similar plot point with 'The Phantom & The Sorceress' with Gladstone's luck being taken away by Magica. I also like how The Phantom Blot's backstory is somehow tied to Magica's backstory. It's also a shame that he's never been utilized in the classic Disney shorts because he's been around ALOT longer than Scrooge McDuck. It would've been awesome if Blot appeared in some of the early Mickey shorts.

So it makes sense that Magica would feature in this episode with him.

I remember coming out of this episode wishing that Magica had a change of heart. I felt like it would have been more interesting to have a villain this irredeemably evil have an arch where she faces feeling pride for her own niece(? I don't know how shadow blood works) and Lena learning to forgive her. This would also make the twist in episode 22 more impactful if we had more time to warm up to Magica. Although Lena as a character has improved a lot since her introduction, she is still more entertaining when she is paired with Magica in my opinion. With how underwhelming season 3 was shaping up to be, it really could have used a conflict like this.

Interesting your bring up that theory. A friend of mine suggested that while Lena is a magical creation, she was created using the spirit/life of Minima de Spell. To explain, his theory is that Magica absorbed her family's life/magic/whatever (also explaining the strange absence of her brother Poe), and that the essence collected from Minima was split off to create Lena.
Also, something I'm surprised you didn't mention, but Gladstone's luck being magic based could be a subtle reference to the Italian comics where Gladstone's luck came from the blessings of Fortuna. This also could be seen as extra creepy because it means he could even steal divine magic. And given his desire to hunt down ALL magic...

I kinda find this episode a bit contradictory to the Season 2 finale, since in that it was shown that both Blot and Magica are working with F.O.W.L

Believe or not, this is probably my favorite Lena episode. Probably because the comedic writing, delivery and of course that montage song.
And am I a only one who thinks, that montage song sound little bit like a The Touch by Stan Bush, from The Transformers The Movie.
    "Arise Lena De Spell!!!" "Optimus!!"

This episode lends credence to a theory of mine of the identity of the Phantom Blot.
    Pegleg Pete.
It is shown that before the gauntlet, he challenged Magica with a magic sword, but was defeated. I believe that she either used it to cut off his leg, or damaged his leg to the point he had to use the sword to cut it off himself... a trope we've seen with Della.
My belief is further enhanced by further showings of the Phantom Blot with Pepper, who has all the makings of an adult duck version of Pistol Pete from Goof Troop, where he has a sudden bout of insecurity when he is told the other people he works with don't like him, which is totally in character for Pete.

Kinda disappointing that Lena kicked Magica with her powers back’s ass at the end. It shows that Magica is no longer a threat, because Lena and the crew now have the endless power of “FRIENDSHIPPPPPP”. >.>

Nobody gonna mention how the blots powers were a neat reference to epic mickey? Green magic that takes away other magic that fights a blue magic?

I have something of my theory and it has to do with the episode of "friendship hates magic" what I think happened is that Lena is a "tulpa" let me explain; that at the moment in which spell magic was enclosed in Scrooge's coin, separating his shadow from his body with magic and creating with the magic of the lunar eclipse, at that moment of being enclosed in the coin he used the emotions of hate and revenge towards Scrooge and he created Lena hiding in her shadow, Lena, his tulpa casts a version of herself from her own magic shadow, but, I think that as the years went by little by little she took on her own will but without being free of magic of spell and the way in which he was able to obtain his own personality is that in the lunar eclipse of his magic confinement he exaggerated in the amount of magic applied to lena and thus creating a tulpa with its own will
or so I think I also like the Seanicus theory it has much more logic for me I think
