For anyone who reads this and wonders what the hockey sticks we're talking about, it's when Scrooge goes "Please don't waste those" over the stapler being used. It's a callback(?) to the first part of the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" storyline when Smithers "attacks" Principal Skinner.

Add in the woodchuck challenge when he was prevented from using his guidebook he struggled significantly because he lacked the comfort of what he knew.
Huey is a kid so afraid of the unknown and leaving his comfort zone that this episode essentially showed off everyone preparing for the worst and for expecting the unexpected that Huey handled it the worst. What makes Bradford more of a threat from others including General Lunaris is how well hidden he kept FOWL under Scrooge's nose, smart planning, and having a organization that has weaknesses in the individual members yet each also having strengths if orchestrated well.
Most of all compare Lunaris who didn't know Scrooge on a inside level like Bradford does yet successful planed out a attack against Scrooge only losing when Scrooge worked with the chaotic Glomgold. Bradford has deeper insights and means against Scrooge when tons of plans hidden, knowledge and secrets gained, and now out in the open less hesitantly to attack and other means against Scrooge and the family.
I have a feeling all the gained and unknown allies going against Fowl is what will play out in the end showing streangh from family, friends, and experience. Round two going differently much like how Darkwing and Launchpad couldn't best Steelbeck in combat but the Resuce Rangers did getting the surprise jump on him and Darkwing now experience for round two with Launchpad and Gosalyn by his side to take Steelbeak down

    • @elenanojkovic2554
      @elenanojkovic2554 Před 3 lety +5

Also even if Scrooge got desperate enough to go "blast it all, let's just have Glomgold make another crazy scheme, it worked last time!"-Bradford knows Glomgold's schemes!
Scrooge could reach for any of his allies, rivals or even enemies, but Bradford probably knows them as well as Scrooge does. Plus another Bradford has going for him is that he has less of an ego then the other villains. I mean don't get me wrong-he has hell of a god complex to believe he knows what is best for the world but he is willing to work from the shadows, be unknown, even (spoilers for "the first adventure, spoiler ends in next paragraf) forgotten.
Everyone else has the need to rub everything in Scrooge's, or whoever else's, face-Magica, Glomgold, Beaks, Lunaris. Hell, even SCROOGE has that side to himself.
Bradford is the opposite-which makes him WAY more dangerous. A giant golden rocket in the sky? A whirpool of stolen shadows? A giant ferris-wheel turned cannon? Well, it won't be easy but you can fight any of those. You know your target. But you can't fight something or someone when you can't even see it.

I'd say that both Scrooge and Beakley's emotional breakage were actually slowly upsetting. Scrooge seems to be pretty annoyed by flaws in Gyro's system. At first it can be mistaken for laughs from Scrooge seemingly not getting the point that Della and Louie could have been killed. Then you slowly start to realize that, even barely, they can exploit said weaknesses, FOWL is several steps ahead already, and indeed they were. Scrooge basically realizes there's a high likelihood he'll lose everything. Same with Beakley. Sure, we all laughed at the fact that Webby can be genuinely terrifying, especially to the nephews, but even when she realizes she's gone too far, Beakley knows that even their definition of too far isn't far enough for FOWL. The fact they have this looming crisis that they can't even imagine or predict caused almost everyone to lose it. Huey has been proven once again that being the factual, logic driven character means nothing. The one character that really stands out is Louie. He's relatively unshaken and seems to find everything a nuisance because he's the ONLY one who knows that they've always been up to the challenge. Seriously, a deeply psychological look at crisis in a cartoon series.
Also, this episode would make a GREAT video game if done right.

Remember in "Daytrip of Doom" when Donald learned the Beagle Boys had kidnapped the nephews and Webby, he charges at them with the war cry "Give me back my boys!"
But in "The Shadow War", the finale of that season, when he stays behind to fight Magicas Shadow Clones while the kids goes to save Scrooge his war cry has changed to "Stay away from my KIDS!" Not boys, not nephews, kids. Webby was already an honorary niece.

Oh my gosh! I LOVE Webby in this episode. All the tricks she came up with were just great. It really shows her skills. Plus, she knew when things went too far and to stand up to her grandmother, who was having fear control her thoughts, actions and decisions. Webby alone made this episode enjoyable.
Add in Scrooge just going out right crazy to the point of creating death traps that he wasn't satisfied enough with, plus the fight at the end of the ImpossiBin, and it made such a good episode.
This is one of the better episodes of Season 3. I really enjoyed it in the end.

Mrs Beakly's behavior this episode along with the harp of mervana catching her lying to Webby about secrets leads me to think there is much more going on here than her normal overprotective nature. There is something that she does not want anyone else to know.
I have two theories. Either or both may be true. Theory 1: FOWL had something to do with the fate of Webby's parents. We have had nothing so far about their identities or why Webby is living with her Grandma. This is something the show has done often in the show finding them may be the next big adventure arc. Theory 2: Mrs Beakly may be working with FOWL in some way. I think they had her spy on Scrooge and keep him restrained from adventuring. I doubt she is a willing traitor but if she had to choose between protecting Webby and remaining loyal to Scrooge, she would certainly choose Webby. Especially if the first theory is true. It lines up with most of Beakly's behavior so far. She was very reluctant to let Scrooge and the kids go adventuring. It is also clear that she is willing to go to great lengths to protect Webby, including keeping her locked in a mansion most of her life and outright lying to her.

My favorite trap was the Magic Runes. Especially when Louie and Scrooge had to walk on each other feet. The subplot with Mrs.Beakley was intense but, the situation had resolved itself nicely. Speaking of Mrs.Beakley, I love this reboot version of her, she is smart, tough, a great role model, & one of the most capable characters in the series.

  • @sharingan533
    @sharingan533 Před 3 lety +13

You know, this chapter was simply amazing, we had good interactions, characters development exposition and a authentic inner conflict.
In first place, writers took the right choice, separate the family in those teams was the best decision, I don't know if someone else noticed this but the tricks used by Webby were the same Louie used in Glomtales, so I think if he would have been in the mansion, probably webby's tricks wouldn't have worked so well. Also, Keeping Della away from the mansion was necessary too, she probably had stopped Beakley when she was gone so far, without them Webby had the opportunity to show a little rebel behavior and face off her Grandma, a good change in the character. Also, we had the opportunity to see how much Louie has growth up, obviously he is not as reckless as his brother Dewey, but now he can show bravery if it is necessary, on the other had, he is not as smart as his brother Huey, but he can use logical and rational thinking to resolve problems, he is a good balance.
Scrooge and Beakley were amazing too. I guess this is the first time we see Scrooge so worry about an enemy, after all, we are taking about who was his right hand for a long time and in an odd way, his friend; Beakley on the other hand, finally we see her really affected by something, I don't know what happened with FOWL in the past, but I really look forward to find out.
Momdella and Dadonald were precious, I don't care Della' skills, the only scene I need is Della protected Louie; Donald face off Beakley was good, but I would have liked to see more interectation between them, after all, they are overprotective parents.
I am very expecting about Huey development, he must solve his big problem about trust only his knowledge and start to think logic and rationally.

The Purple Room was probably my favorite trap in the episode for how ludicrously deadly it was. I feel like it actually might have been effective against FOWL agents, at least those who haven’t had experience dealing with Gyro and his tech.
Also I do agree that Mrs. Beakley did go a bit too far. Firstly, there is no way that randomly siccing your hypercompetent ninja granddaughter on the comparatively normal Huey and Dewey would achieve much of anything except what we saw in the episode proper- making them paranoid and panicky. It’s like giving them a test without giving them a chance to study at all. She remains sympathetic because of her intentions and motivations but for a large chunk of the episode I thought she was either under mind control or replaced with an impostor due to how the attacks could basically be construed as psychological warfare.

My favorite trap was either the robot at the end or the purple sawblade room, since I didn't even consider the solution to that one.
And I was very much thinking the same thing that the story would go in the direction of Huey having to learn to be deceptive himself in order to outsmart Webby, so it was interesting to see the show took that scene in a much different direction, as they avoided what in retrospect, would have been a very obvious plot point otherwise.

And in the lost harp of mervana beakley is hiding something, and she's nervous about it, she didn't train webby for nothing and in the imposibin episode we see why webby was so vigorously trained because beakley is hiding something, something about webby something that made her fear so much that she trained webby to protect herself from that. I've never seen the regular sized one before and I don't know where it was exclusive to, but there was a 10" version exclusive to Target, and a much smaller version in a Hot Topic exclusive version of the Disney Afternoon Blind Box assortment. As far as the plush goes, it was part of a Disney Afternoon assortment. But good luck trying to find Darkwing. He sold out the second they were released to retail like 2 or so years ago.

I do think Ms. Beakley did go to far, but I'm hypothesizing that it may have to do with some past regret she encountered when fighting F.O.W.L. That maybe F.O.W.L. brainwashed someone she cared for and was forced to fight. Perhaps, perhaps it was Webby's parents. That maybe the reason why she's been raising Webby. Perhaps F.O.W.L. did something to them that Ms. Beakley wasn't strong enough to save them and they paid the ultimate price. Again just my theory.

With FOWL rising again and Bradford Buzzard the leader, Scrooge felt betrayed after being spied by his “most trusted business partner” while Beakley after hearing of FOWL’s return trying to destroy the family is on edge pushing the family to extremes on being ready to face them since she knows perfectly well on how dangerous they are.
If FOWL is really many steps ahead since the beginning, they must’ve been collecting every information on not just the McDuck family, but also everything they have very close connections with. They could even gather information from past events like the Shadow War and the Moonlanders invasion. It’s about studying all of Scrooge’s close allies and enemies to know every flaws, strategies, schemes, weaknesses, etc. and come up with perfect strategies and even see angles of situations that are possibly better than Lunaris.

When I first saw this episode my favorite part was when Webby realized that she had gone too far and had to fight her grandmother. Beakley is Webby's hero, and for the longest time was her only family (it's easy to forget that she's only really known the nephews and everyone else for about 3 years at this point). Having Webby being driven so emotionally far that she has a legitimate conflict with her hero made me see how much Webby has grown since meeting Huey, Loue, and the third one.

All of Scrooge's traps were very creative and brought a lot of great action. Webby's moments were also enjoyable with how she always surprised Huey and Dewey.
The only thing that bothered me was that Donald was pushed into the background for most of the episode. I know he was setting up security around the mansion, but they still could've given him more focus. Maybe he could've shown the kids how he set in these safety measures, or train with Mrs. Beakley to improve his fighting skills.
Now the ending was had a great hook to it. I wonder what FOWL will do with all of those artifacts and how Clan McDuck will overcome them.

Awesome that you mentioned the Don Rosa comic when Magica De Spell changed the gravity. I thought of it the moment I saw the gravity-change in action. Since I started watching this Ducktales series and started to notice that the creators brought in Easter eggs and references from all over the place, I have been more keen to keep my eyes open to the details.

I thought Beakley was being mind controlled or a robot by FOWL with how much they were pushing the "expect an attack from anywhere" storyline. So I think they were not super clear with that storyline, casue even when they were saving her from falling off the roof I thought she was gonna attack them again. If i had one gripe with the episode, I would have liked to see more of the Bin's traps-I feel like we saw too few of them.
