    I wish Donald was a bit more involved with the main plot only cause I think if there’s any character that exemplifies the ability to move on from failure, it’s Donald Duck.
    Especially this version of Donald. He had to deal with a childhood where he felt outcasted cause of his voice, then he lost his band, then he lost his sister which in turn made him lose his uncle. But he kept going and raised 3 kids.
    I just think it would’ve been nice if he also was involved in that lesson more. I’m happy with how much character development they’ve given Della and her relationship to the kids. I hope the popularity here will see more versions of the character in other media.
    But I miss some of the early “dad” uncle Donald and kids interactions. They’re still his boys too

      Well, if Donald knew about the kids being depressed thinking that Scrooge was trying to replace them... The plot would've gone in a different path. This is how I imagined how it would've gone...
      Donald: * seeing the kids are sad *
      Donald: Hey kids, what's wrong...
      Dewey: Our life is over....
      Louie: I'm never getting my inheritance...
      Donald: WHAT???!!!
      Webby: Uncle Scrooge doesn't need us anymore...
      Huey: He's replacing us, because we're not good enough for him....
      Donald: * heating up *
      Huey: Uncle Donald are you OK???
      Donald: UNCLE SCROOGE!!!!
      * UNINTELLIGIBLE DUCK NOISES *
      * TEMPER TANTRUM *
      * storms out of the rooms to find Scrooge *
      And then you know what happens....
      I guess that's the reason why they used Della instead of Donald as the parent figure in this episode...
      And yet, if they had used Donald the episode would've been so wholesome

  • @Webbyneon89

    Seeing Della's parenting in contrast against Scrooge's complicated differences with how he goes about showing the kids love & respect was one of my favorite aspects of New Gods On The Block. Della has told Dewey & Webby before in Season 2 her philosophy of never having to prove themselves to her as equals because they're already on that same footing as a family to begin with.
    Scrooge, while very deeply loving of each and every one of them, doesn't say it often because he presumes they already knew from how he lets actions speak for itself, rather than in words. Something he's done for most of the series, so it was nice seeing that be addressed here in this particular story around their family dynamic. New Gods On The Block is easily on my list of favorites from Season 3's episodes, thus far.

    You know, there's something in Futurama that has stayed with me. This episode reminds me of it. "If a god does something right, people won't be sure they've done anything at all." They all tried to directly interact as gods, which caused more problems than they started with.

    Are we psycho-analyzing a cartoon? YES, that’s how you know it’s a good show with good characters! Being able to analyze a 2-d character on a psychological level is the staple of a good show with good writers and crew, it make the characters engaging, relatable and easy to empathize with and like.

    I enjoyed Donald's subplot the most, partly for seeing his growing relationship with Daisy and for Storkules unintentionally screwing up their date. As for the main plot, it was fun seeing each of the kids trying out their requested powers, or natural abilities in Dewey's case. It was also nice having Della act like a mother again.

    Another group with essentially superpowers. Zeus got the mantle back this episode, but really seems they could be leading up to a big superhero teamup event at some point (though with only like seven episodes left at this point in the series since it's the final season might not be able to slot it in, and it's possible I was reading too far in to a coincidence rather than something they planned) so they might get them back eventually, at least temporarily. We've got Gizmoduck, DW, full powered Lena, possibly Gladstone if he decides to actively harness his luck magic rather than just let it passively happen, Fethry and Mitzi could handle a Hulk/Kong the Animated Series style role, Gosalyn is almost certainly slated to take up her Quiverwing Quack persona or one similar to it, possibly Suavepad since he still exists in some form in Launchpad's psyche, of course our definitely real boy B.O.Y.D, Penny, both Scrooge and Donald have superhero personas that have been used in comics they could adopt, and the godlings in this episode (and to an extent the other full powered gods). One of the reasons why people deal so badly with failure is because we're primed to see failure as not achieving in a major way. Small failures are treated as mistakes, not failures. And there are many times and places and even careers where even relatively small mistakes are treated as major failures or can very suddenly snowball into a huge disaster. Unfortunately, many of us live in a world where failure, even temporary failure, just isn't an option because the consequences are too severe, or worse, too unpredictable.

    This episode is clearly a filler episode in between a series of F.O.W.L. stories, but it's also one of my favorites of the season for one reason; Della. Full disclosure, I'm not a really big Della Duck fan, or at least not as big a fan as everyone else. Ever since I learned that she stole the Spear of Selene and unintentionally abandoned her family for 10 years, I haven't been able to let that go. However, when she came back to Earth and started to interact with her kids, she gradually got better. And, she is clearly the most motherly in this episode. This is the Della that I wanted to see for a while; someone who puts her kids' interests over her own and supports them even when they have no confidence in themselves.
