    I like how Webby being Scrooge's clone wasn't enough to retrieve the papyrus (that's why they couldn't just make June or May get it), it was her experiences as part of the McDuck family that made Webby Scrooge's true heir.

      Right....because otherwise May or June would probably be able to to the same....
      I was kind of unsure how I felt about the twist because it kind of clashes with the found family theme but this gave me New perspective on it. Now I feel easier about it.
      Don't get me wrong, I adored the episode before as well, just felt a bit iffy about that one aspect. But I Like the episode eveen more now!

      @matti.8465 Před 3 lety +21

      @@elenanojkovic2554 I get what you mean, and I saw that sentiment echoed a lot! Personally, I feel like the finale (and the show in general) hammers in the found family theme so much this is hardly enough to undermine it.
      That's also shown in how Webby still sees Beakley as her real grandma, even though there's no real blood relation between them.

    • @elenanojkovic2554
      @elenanojkovic2554 Před 3 lety +12

      @@matti.8465 As I Said, it was a minor issue for me. I mean, as you said, webby learns that she is not related to her and still calls her granny. Also she refers to Lena and Violet as her sisters and later on Lena tells June she belongs with them. Plus Scrooge says 'my whole family" or "my entire family" and a bunch of People including Selene, Goldie, Gyro, Penumbra etc are right there so, yeah.
      I'm still INCREDIBLY happy with this episode. I was somewhat sceptical considering that there were finales that pretty much ruined shows for me. But when my biggest complaints are 'the message is a bit iffy, but still fine' and 'I wish there was more Goldie', you know the episode was AMAZING. Just the fact that May and June, Webby's literal clones , who were introduced on this very episode and had to share the screen time with, Like, 20 other characters still mannaged to have somewhat different personalities, is worth praise.

    Considering why Scrooge's family is so big IS due to adventure, within context of the show...it's not really stupid at all.
    Ducktales earned it. Most of the show was a lesson in family. Those adventures indeed wouldn't mean much if it weren't for it being the McDuck and Donald Duck clan.
    So, yeah, it's cheesy but Ducktales earned it.

    • @Sayrden
      @Sayrden Před rokem +5

      Yeah, I thought it worked pretty well for two reasons:
      1. "Family is the greatest adventure of all" isn't just an underlying theme, it's essentially a McDuck family motto in universe. It's a major part of how they all relate to each other.
      2. Bradford being defeated by the Papyrus plays into another major theme - that in his quest to reign in chaos, Bradford became exactly the kind of villain that he despised. In "The First Adventure", he describes the Papyrus as a font of chaos, and uses it only out of desperation. Here, it's the foundation of his entire plan. Like the Split Sword of Swanstantine, it shows how far he's fallen.

    This show has done so much for the triplets and Webby beyond what comics and previous shows tried to do. It took these very static characters, gave them distinct personalities with their own hopes and fears, and it gave them all futures or legacies if you will. Huey pursuing science and not being afraid of how chaotic things may get and maybe even finding it exciting to stray from the beaten path (unlike Bradford who has no such “Duke of Making a Mess” to speak of). Dewey following Launchpad and Della as a pilot. Louie going into law. Webby becoming an adventurer like her idols Scrooge and to a lesser extent Della (which is why her time with Della earlier in the season was pretty important). These futures also play off of their respective strengths and personalities and their growths as characters while still being interconnected and supportive of each other in their careers and as a family. Looking forward to seeing what lies ahead with the podcast.
    Also part of me really wants to hear Ace Attorney lines from Louie (I’m sure Sam could give Bobby some pointers).
    Also also Webby’s new lot in life kinda reminds me of the DCAU episode Epilogue. Just as the world needs a Batman, the Duck world needs a Scrooge McDuck, and with Webby around they won’t be lacking one for a long time to come.

      Static? There was nothing static about them. The original 1987 DID give the kids DISTINCT personalities without being in your face about it. Take Gyro and Boyd- he once loved him as his own son, and they found each other again after so long (and I'd like to think that Gyro's life became changed for the better after both learning the truth about his haunted past and getting his beloved son back in his life). And look at Gosalyn- she lost her family, but she ultimately found new family in Darkwing and even LP. And so many of Scrooge's close outside circle are considered his extended family.

    Two points I think worth making. First, as far as the contract is concerned... if you can't accept that the cheesy, Saturday Morning Cartoony end message is a real reason the contract fall flat, there's actually a better reason that basically leads to the same thing. Scrooge agreed not to adventure again for living with his family, but he has a family of adventurers. So long as they don't agree to the same terms, they are going to keep going on adventures, and to be a part of that, he has to do the same. The contract is basically void unless all of the Duck family agrees to it, which Bradford didn't account for. The second point is the possibility of a Season 4 that would have been focused on Webby. If you think about it, for everything this finale does, including things not mentioned like Donald wanting to go on a long vacation with Daisy just the two of them and Della not being okay with that which is an interesting story piece in itself because it shows how much Della still cares about Donald despite how much they fight, if you take all the character moments and big reveals and flesh them out into one episode a piece, you could very easily make a season out of that. It's amazing that they had the ability to fit so much into a single 90 minute special and still wrap it up in a satisfying way. Good job, Ducktales and thanks for the memories.

I was surprised that the cheesy message was the reason for Brad's failure as much as anyone, but it was satisfying, that like Lunaris before him, he was defeated by something he underestimated (the 80th reason why he's more of a villain, whatever he says to the contrary. Black Heron would have loved that, knowing that in the end, she was right all along; a villain's greatest triumph, in both cartoons and real-life alike)

      Well, there is a thing i would want to add about the contract:
      Bradford would not be foolish enough to let it slid anything that would undo his plans. I feel the plan was to make the contract to stop Scrooge from meddling with FOWL and once he was left alone and bitter....they could have a free reign to eliminate anything related to adventures without much opossition. The flaw however, was that he saw adventuring as the thing that tore apart a family, as he prooved with the Spear of Selene and his own life. But with adventuring having such a grey concept adn many areas, and never moving on from his own past.....it created a blindspot that was way too late for that buzzard to see until it was too late.

Sometimes it sucked being spoiled, but in a lot of ways it was fun to know what clues meant before the characters did and catch things most viewers wouldn't on a first viewing. A great part was watching these videos and seeing what people thought about certain plot points at the time the episodes originally aired without the same information I did.

    It is sad to see this show go but it’s very long finale was the perfect wrap. It made a lot of sense to do a very Webby focused finale because she never got her focus season but it still felt like this finale still put focus on Huey without stealing attention. And having Donald being the one that they would lose if the contract wasn’t signed is so powerful because even though Donald is not on screen as much as Scrooge, Webby, the triplets, Launchpad, and Beakley he is the one that has put a lot of the characters together. Donald may never have seemed adventure like every other character but adventure always came to him even when he was away from his family and accidentally got sent to space looking for Della.

That smile turned into a mad laugh of sheer fanboy glee when the Gargoyles theme kicked in during Manny's transformation. I do have one question about the episode: who or what kept turning on all the lights in those boxes? Them turning on to reveal their contents ended up inspiring a lot of the heroic moments; it seems like something Bradford wouldn't give those inside the chambers control over. Anyone have any ideas on that front?

    Once the cloning and Webby-focus was spilled ahead of the episode I made a pretty confident guess how it was going to play out, but it was still a well-written reveal, I felt. And unlike comments I've seen from others, I don't think it undermines the show's found family theme _at all._ If anything, it reinforces it. As sad as it is to see this show end, I'm at least glad they finished in an epic and satisfying way. For the most part, the "Ducktales 2017" crew did an incredible job cramming so many characters into an hour-long story and allowing each of them a chance to shine. Some of my favorite parts include Webby bonding with her clones/sisters and later infiltrating FOWL, Darkwing and Gizmoduck's rivalry, Donald and Della teaming with Scrooge, and Huey learning more about Bradford's motivations. Also, the fact that Ludwig von Drake is alive and well was a pleasant surprise.
    Speaking of surprises, my most favorite scene has to be the big reveal with Manny the Headless Man-Horse. I was absolutely thrilled when he turned out to be this show's version of Goliath from "Gargoyles," right down to having Keith David voice him. It's the perfect cap off to all of the Disney Afternoon references in this show.
    I still wish Daisy and maybe some of the other one-shot characters got a chance to fight FOWL, like have Kit and Molly use their circus stunts to fight some Eggheads, or Panchito, Jose, and Daisy tag team with Donald and Della to battle the mind-controlled villains.
    As for the twist with Webby being Scrooge's clone/daughter, I'm kind of on the fence about that. On one hand, I admire all the buildup that went into this plot point and it's an interesting way of redefining their relationship. But on the other hand, it kind of takes away the message of how family doesn't have to mean being related by blood. Although, you could say it still works regarding her relationship with Mrs. Beakley, since the latter adopted Webby.
    But with all that aside, I still appreciate everything this show has done and I wish Matt, Frank, and the rest of the "Ducktales 2017" crew the best of luck with their future. For the last time, all I can say is, "Ducktales! WOO-HOO!"

    The end-credits were SO well done. I loved each character getting caught and carried away by their loved ones/those closest to them, starting with the supporting characters (like Gyro and Fenton), going into the main cast, until we're finally left with the boys, then Webby, then finally the family patriarch himself. Off each group went, one by one. It was very much like the end of a play, with each character coming out to take their bows. It gave me all the feels.

    Was I the only one disappointed by the Webby-Scrooge clone reveal? I feel like it kind of cheapened a lot of their relationship and Webby's arc. It was really beautiful that she was accepted into the family without being blood related, the message that you can choose your loved ones and nontraditional family dynamics were no less valid than any other. Her calling him dad just felt like a let down, a way to manufacture a way into the family when she was already an integral part of it.
