Knowing James Gunn’s style I’m thinking that the type of feel this movie is gonna go for is to be kinda like a modernized version of the Christopher Reeves Superman, I don’t think it’s gonna be intentionally corny or anything like that but I think this movie is definitely gonna have more of a bright, fun tone, which will be cool to see because when you really think about it we haven’t seen a Superman with a fun tone since the Christopher Reeves movies, because Superman Returns and all of the Henry Cavill movies had a darker tone to them, that means that the last time we saw that fun Superman was with Superman IV back in 1987, so I’m excited to see James Gunn finally bring that kind of Superman back in a modern context

Recently watched Wired's James & Sean Gunn Answer the Web's Most Searched Questions where one of the searches was if James Gunn is DC's Kevin Feige.
He said not quite because he is responsible for the more creative side of things and mapping out the future, while Peter Safran is responsible for the administrative and executive stuff (and Kevin Feige does both).
I think this means he is on the side of the guilds and won't go against them.
James Gunn about to cook a comic accurate Superman movie & im here for it....Finally someone who gets the character....Superman 78 is still brilliant till this day....Gunn has a chance to surpass that....

January start date doesn't mean they'll start with the man of steel in the suit. They may prioritize pre-vis,location shooting,exteriots and many other things. I doubt that part is the hang up.
As a producer couldn’t Gunn delegate the project to himself while Gunn the Director is on strike?
Gunn said he handed in the script some time ago. How is January 2024 "sooner than we think"? That's almost a year after finishing the script.
I'm not that optimistic about this Gunn Superman film. But if it's good, I'll definitely be happy.
I’m betting this will be Gunn’s most expensive film, but still cheaper than most of the previous modern DC films.
MOS cost $270M and BVS ZSJL cost $300M+ so you are most probably right.
As far as I know, a shooting script isn't necessarily the final draft as scripts are often changed during production.
Also, if the DGA goes on strike, Gunn should still be able to work as a studio executive, but he would have to pause directing, if I'm not mistaken.
Looking forward to this movie. I'm sure it will be great.

There is a loop hole (kinda). Not only is Peter Safran is his co pilot for DC, but James Gunn during pre-production could act as strictly as an executive producer... Cause they make a lot of calls in regards to how things look and feel... It's very easy to forget that. The real question is are you officially a director or producer during pre production, or are you a director when the cameras start rolling. There's a lot of wiggle room here in regards to James Gunn.
Another thing to think about is if James Gunn says I won't charge a directors fee... Does that remove him from any union obligations?
I have one question though, is the first draft of a script enough to approve filming for a movie? Shouldn't there be a second rewrite or the first draft is the base for the principal photography only?
As they said in the video, things are confusing about this case, because some sources say Gunn delivered the FINAL script while others mentioned a "first draft". I don't know what to make of this
@@leonardoscheffer Well, for most reports, it's been highly consistent the one about being the first draft. So we should leave it at that. I'm just wondering if it'll be enough for guarantee an approval for the principal photography, because while it is the complete basis of the story, it still has to go under certain rewrites. That's what I'm wondering the most
Well, that may be true about what you said, but as you have indicated not too long ago, rewriting is the same as writing, and during the production of the movie, the writers have to be on set to punch up the script. If the strike continues, then who knows how long it will be before we end up with a huge problem?
Interesting video, so many unknown variables with this movie...im still unsure about a new Superman but i loved Guardians 3 so i am very curious...Chris ur right about all this with the strikes, Gunn could be in a tough position if more strikes follow...I agree John they have definitely signed up an actor for Superman already, i have no idea who, i was thinking possible an unknown...although maybe it will be Superman: Starlord, 'he will return' just not in MCU..his wife as Lois Lane and his brother as Jimmy Olsen...easy as pie, great casting..

James Gunn has said multiple times in interviews that he likes to constantly throw new lines at his actors to try out while on set and writing brand new scenarios for scenes on the spot just to try them and having them improv lines ect, especially for guardians and TSS so I’m guessing he won’t be allowed to do anything even remotely like that when it comes time to shoot If this is still going on next year coz isn’t Ryan Rey old not allowed to do improv or some shit like that for deadpool 3 ??? Coz that’s technically writing new material??

I think that's why he wanted to end superman and Lois, he wanted all his tv shows to connect with the movies. i'm ok with it but i still think their should be some kind of elseworld shows that don't connect but connect with it like a earth 1 prime crossing over with earth 23456 on and on

2. Wolfgang Novogratz, relatively unknown, looks just like certain comic drawings of Superman and is the youngest possible choice for Clark Kent at 25.
I'm hoping for Novogratz. He's that perfect unknown actor at the right age.

I like Nicholas Hoult ( a name rumored to be in the hunt), but he's only 6 years younger than Cavill. If you're going to start a new Superman with a new actor, I'm just not sure 6 years difference is enough to say "we needed a younger actor. I was thinking more like 10 years younger. I know he hasn't been cast yet, but it doesn't really feel right to cast an actor that, if you put them side-by-side and compared him to the previous one, you wouldn't know which was older.
He looks much younger though.

Man of steel movie had to be a great movie because it is being used in the new flash movie with zod for it to be used in the flash movie again and that they made the flash movie with the same actor to play the flash in the movie that it is going along with the the way that man of steel movie and batman vs superman dawn of justice movie and the justice league cut movie to use it in the flash movie and use batman from 1989 in the flash movie that people are going to think of the movies that were done before and still make a new movie out movie out of it
I just think 2024 and 2025 are going to be like 2008 and 2013 all over again with the birth of the MCU and DCEU. Only this time there's the chance that the next two years may be the potential "death" years of both cinamtic runs. To better rephrase that, I think Avengers Secret Wars and Superman Legacy will be the movies that will determine the fate of whether or not Marvel and DC movies will able to remain relevant in the foreseeable future.
There's so much conflict of interest with Gunn being the head of a studio and writing & directing. 😂

Will the strike affect production of SUPERMAN LEGACY? I doubt it. Will gambling on ten years of expensive content at a studio with so much debt last year that its CEO cancelled entire movies in post production and that was rumored to be delaying other big releases because it couldn't afford the promotion and distribution costs of more than two per year? Likely, in my opinion. That still feels like a mistake on the part of people who should know better because if at least one or two of the first three or four films doesn't earn a billion, it could be game over for DC and a very long time before anyone tries to build the cinematic universe again. I don't blame Gunn. He's not who I want to be running DC creatively, but he's still a solid filmmaker doing what he was hired to do and one that may (hopefully) prove me wrong about his suitability. Unfortunately, Marvel's otherwise well earned success has set a precarious precedent in making everyone think that most comic book superhero movies with the same brand need to be interconnected and part of some singular cinematic universe.
I don't really understand the writers strike. What percentage of writers does it effect. Are there writer "scabs". Assuming big names like James gunn or Christopher nolan are in the union do they have to follow all the other writers leads. Also if they're not I'd assume that means they can write for who ever they want.
I don’t buy the news. We haven’t heard anything about who has being casted as the man of steel, and by now, if you’re shooting in January of next year, you should know who your superman is, being that the actor chosen has to get in shape, etc.

We just went through a 10 year stretch without Superman movies lol there were more than enough opportunities for other characters and they tanked the dceu lol
So far the synopsis that James Gunn described about the new superman sounded a lot like Christopher Reeve's version of superman, and I think after 45 years studios and directors should move on from that but apparently they don't. For now I'm not interested in in a movie which approach of the character is somehow similar to an approach that we some how keep seeing over and over again. That's the main reason why I believe that Henry Cavill's version was so great
