@@AnferneeMyers What I mean is he should have been Kano all along. He'd be a perfect Kano, even better than Josh Lawson in my opinion. This "sequel" should really be a soft reboot of 2021 since 2021 was no better than "film pitch" level of movie making and was pretty mediocre to trash overall. They need to re kast almost everyone anyway except Sub Zero & Kung Lao. Josh Lawson was great as Kano but I truly think Karl Urban would be even better.

Besides, I really am against casting actors in action films, especially in martial arts movies without any martial arts skills! I always thought this new MK franchise, will finally give us real action actors, who will give joy to fans of MK games and those who enjoy watching action packed movies. MK 2021 had in 90% satisfying casting since MK rebirth (short yt film) and even MK Legacy series!

JC fanbase is strong in the world and I think all JC fans have their own favs who should play this character. Mine always were Adkins or Alain Moussi. 💪👍
I actually always saw Johnny as being somewhere in his late twenties to being ANYWHERE in his thirties. Lynden Ashby was in his mid-thirties when he played Johnny Cage, so an actor anywhere in his thirties could've done it. Even Chris Pratt( who is 43 or 44, I think) would've been a good pick for Johnny.
As an MK fan, seeing this news just infuriates me. Who in the world casted this? I love Karl Urban, great actor, nothing against him. But this, this is the biggest L ever. This franchise (live action) is doomed. I'll stick to the videogames smh.

I love Karl, but isn't he a bit rough around the edges? Johnny Cage is usually a cocky pretty boy. He's also 50, whereas I was expecting them to go for a guy in his late 20s or early 30s. I agree with Ray that Glen Powell would be a great fit.

I love Karl Urban but I'm not 100% sold on the idea of him playing Johnny Cage. He has clearly done more than his fair share of action scenes but I cant say that I've ever been impressed by any of the choreography, its all been standard stuff and Cage is meant to be a martial artist, it needs someone familiar with playing that kind of role...... who that might be though I have no idea, once upon a time Van Damme would have been a shoe in as that is who the character was inspired by when they created the game but he's been aged out of the role for a long time now.

Only fighting wise but when it comes to looks, age, acting chops & ability to do a lot of your own fights an occasional stunt double, I think Chris Evans is the perfect choice. Watch his behind the scenes for Winter Soldier, he does roundhouse kicks and Judo throws and looks prettt good doing them. He's not Scott Adkins but competent enough that with a great stuntman like Matt Mullins who played Johnny Cage in MK Legacy and should be Mokap in MK live actions next to Chris Evans, which would be perfect kasting.
Scott Adkins would be best as a revamped version of Kobra who is a former White Lotus memeber who became a prize fighter and then a Merc for the Black Dragon.
@@festo512 If done right, his kharacter goes through a very good cocky Hollywood douche to humble team leader that still crack jokes, and Chris Evans has played both types perfectly several times in his career. He looks like and has even played a popular Johnny kharcter before. He is a better choice for Johnny than Karl Urban that's for sure. Of course this MK Franchise sucks and they don't even remotely care about doing a well thought out and faithful MK universe and it's kasting like this that proves that.

Should have been *SCOTT ADKINS* he would have been brilliant, especially since he's a fantastic martial artist so has the added benefit of ACTUALLY being able do all the fighting and stunts himself, no stand in's, stunt doubles or face swaps required!

The 90s MK is a guilty pleasure for me. The roles were all perfectly cast. Even though i don't remember anything about the most recent MK bc the trailer was the most memorable part I'll still watch the second bc I'm a MK junkie. Most played game when I was a kid!

Karl Urban is a great actor who is one of THE WORST choices as Johnny Cage. He is literally the perfect Kano in a MK Franchise even if he isn't Aussie because the original Kano was played by Brit Trevor Goddard (RIP). Kano can be a Brit & Karl Urban would be even better than Josh Lawson to me. Johnny Cage would be much better played by someone like Chris Evans who isn't playing Captain America much anymore and could take up another iconic role. He's already been a Hollywood douche type Johnny Storm in Fantastic 4 movies and if you've seen those, Cellular, Scott Pilgrim, The movies with him as Captain America, Knives Out & The Gray Man then you know he'd be the perfect Johnny Cage. Imagine Chris Evans vs Karl Urban as Johnny & Kano banter in love action. That would be GOLD.
Unfortunately it's kasting decisions exactly like this that are akin to the same as the 1st movie which will keep me from watching the movie because the new direction of Mortal Kombat in Live action is missed opportunity after missed opportunity. It literally sucks.

Eh the reboot was underwhelming for me...I think producers are overthinking this franchise...Just throw money at the directors of the Mortal Kombat 1993 MK II commercial. That 30 second spot is what I'd want from a feature film, it captured the tone perfectly!
Terrible casting decision. I love Karl urban but he just doesn't make sense as Johnny cage. He's not a pretty boy in any capacity. He more falls under the category of badass. Not saying he can't act the part it just doesn't make sense for me.
We'll likely get Quan Chi or Shao Kahn from the events after this.

Original MK is great, did these guys say terrible? What drugs are they on lol Nah lol Terrible is Street Fighter or Tekken movies...MK 95 is great. Also, Miz would have sucked, Reynolds is too typical. I would have preferred Scott Atkins but Urban is one of the most versatile actors watch him in Star Trek and a show called Almost Human, the guy is insanely versatile when you compare it to Dredd or Billy Butcher. His Cage will shock people calling it now.

I think Johnny Cage is more "funny" because he's arrogant and cocky. Not so much a comedian. I think Karl can pull that off. But he just makes more sense as Kano. He already has the look, and accent.

He does have that face matched to roleplay as Johnny Cage, I haven't seen or know of him but in my opinion he seems fits the right bill for Johnny Cage roleplay character. While for 2nd Sub Zero as Kuai Liang I strongly suggest Andrew Koji since I saw he does a Bruce Lee nunchuck as hope they added him on revenging or seeking the truth of his brother Bi Han's true culprit and his eternal clan's rivalry the Shirai Ryu and the Lin Kuei clan and maybe some actors for the Lin Kuei members as Sektor, Cyrax Frost, Smoke and maybe others along on the 2nd MK movie. For Kenshin I don't mind that actor who people said he looks half Asian half other people's appearance from the matrix movies and the 47 Ronin film
35 year old Karl Urban would be exciting. Now he's just too old, and I don't want MK11 version of Johnny when we're doing first tournament and all other characters are fairly young. I'm not sure if he's even martial artist which means cuts and CGI.

He would be even better as Kano than Josh Lawson is. Karl Urban as Kano and Chris Evans as Johnny Cage live action banter would be gold. But everything about the new MK Franchise sucks pretty much outside of Joe Taslim as Sub Zero & Max Huang as Kung Lao. Lewis Tan should have been Kabal & Sisi Stringer should have been Nitara. Other than that, the whole kast needs to be switched & production team for picking most of these actors in the roles they got.
You're just another guy that skips over the age of the actor to the age of the character. But not only that, this older Johnny is going to be shacking up with Sonya and fathering Cassie Cage later down the timeline.

Because they don't care as long as the actor looks good, that's all they care about. I had an issue with Ben Affleck playing a 50-year-old batman, Ali, which is 50 playing blade like WTF. I believe that when starting a franchise, the character needs to be prime 25, so the franchise could last for 10 years

Look Karl Urban and The Miz can play cocky prick characters but they play them differently. When I think of Karl Urban's Cocky Prick characters I think of Billy Butcher. That to me isn't the Johnny Cage type of cocky prick. The Miz to me seems more like a Johnny Cage type cause to me Johnny Cage doesn't sound like a badass cocky prick. He sounds like the kind of cocky that u wanna punch in the face or kick in the nuts but he will defend himself. He is also the comedic effect type. Karl Urban can be funny but I don't think he will be funny as Johnny Cage and will just give us Billy Butcher. I'm sorry but I agree with Kris Carr. Casting Karl Urban over the Miz is a big mistake.

Chris Evans would be the best Johnny Cage when it comes to acting, looks & ability to do most of his fights. Matt Mullins as his stunt double would be perfect because he played Johnny in MK Legacy & would be the perfect Mokap to Chris' Johnny in live action. Karl Urban would be a great Kano, but most of the kast is poorly chosen so the sequel was doomed when the 1st movie was in pre production and kasting choices like this confirms that.
The movie is a mess and all over the place anyway, so it really doesn't matter of they cast; it won't fix the film. They need to go all the way back to the drawing board and start over, if ask me.
the plot is pretty clear in the 1st one. Cole being the ancestor of Scorpion earns his place through the fierce power of love he has towards his family as to spark his inner arkana to the highest levels. Defeating Goro as easily as he did was meant to describe how powerful his love and fighting power had become.... all this to now be a worthy contender for the Mortal Kombat tournament. I thought there could of been much greater story lines to chose from however the overall movie was good imo.
Karl Urban has the potential to show us all he is the perfect fit to play Cage. Excited to see the outcome. Otherwise would be kool to see them draw on the different timeline multiverse plots to see Urban play a different version of Kano.

I liked the first movie, wasn't great as the original mk but it was alright. Didn't care for how the characters got their abilities through akana which made no sense, Jax robotic arms is one example. I'm excited to see what Karl brings playing Cage, guy is a versatile actor. Now I just hope soundtrack is better than the first movie, synth music didn't match the scenes and orchestra sounds during dialog scenes were annoying. Can't wait for the trailers to come.
