The Scooby-Doo films James Gunn wrote were an absolute masterpiece. The casting was great and it was close to the Scooby-Doo roots.
I hope his Lex will be a serious one. All other cinematic versions have been kinda goofy for some reason.
I do think this is good casting. I can imagine him being a very icy and charismatic Lex Luthor, which would be unlike any other version of Lex put to film.
Good casting! Superman Legacy movie is going to be good.
Facts💯
Imagine being in the running for Batman, Superman, & Lex Luthor.
James Gunn, PLEASE make sure Anthony starr is cast in the reboot of flash as reverse flash😭. Nothing to do with Superman but make it happen😤😤
Facts
Brilliant choice! Hoult is a criminally underrated actor and seriously versatile. He will bring alot of menace and nuance to the Luther role.
Good casting! This movie has everything going for it so far
The cast for this movie seems perfect on paper IMO. some lesser roles too like Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho seem really well cast
Practically. And not only that, but there is something about their appeal that makes them fit for a James Gunn movie. Like, take Superman out of the equation, and leave it as a James Gunn movie, they could fit in that style of filmmaking
I just worked with him yesterday on Juror #2 and as soon as I leave set, I get this notification!
He already knew but was never allowed to say anything
This a choice that never crossed my mind but I love it, Nicholas Hoult is an actor that I’ve taken more and more of liking for as the years have gone on, I really liked him as Beast but beyond that him as Knux from Mad Mad: Fury Road was a super fun, energetic performance, I loved him in The Menu and I loved him in Renfield, in fact I seem to be the only person who loved that movie, this guy has really grown on me and when I think about the kind of acting I’ve seen from him he just seems perfect for this role, so I think this is a fantastic choice and thus far Superman: Legacy sounds like it’s shaping up to be a fantastic movie
I loved Renfield as well, so that's at least two people! Lol. In terms of fantastic Hoult performances don't forget about Warm Bodies! I think he will knock this role out of the park.
A lot of people love Renfield, which I don't get cause it sucks. But Hoult was definitely good in it.
That means he’s gonna be returning for multiple films, u can’t kill off lex quick
Lex is too iconic of a villain to be killed off early. Probably gonna be like a Loki character who starts off bad and have some kind of redemption arc
Definitely. If the film goes well he’s gonna be a huge part of their universe
Micheal from Smallville is the best lex i have ever seen
Then you’ve never seen Clancy Browns animated version.
@@Kratosx23 I ment live action version.
@@deontaandrade9536 Fair enough.
James Gunn said that Michael Rosenbaum is the best Lex ever. It looks like he's taking inspiration from that version where Lex and Clark are similar age.
DC has a lot better casting than Marvel rn
Fr, marvel just burned the fantastic four movie by casting pedro as reed and gender swap silver surfer, marvel fans are pretty pissed from this ff cast choices
@@costa2794fr. As a huge FF fan I can’t get behind the casting except for maybe the Thing.
I could be wrong but.. I think this movie will be great. I believe in Gunn and his movie making skills. Guardians 3 was absolutely great. I trust him and believe he's gonna put everything into making it great
I like this choice. He’s a really good actor.
7:36 James Gunn produced Brightburn, but it was written by his brothers.
I really wanted Alexander skarsgard to get this role. But this is great too.
He should be sentry smh
Michael Rooker as Perry White is all I want now.
And Kurt Russell as Jonathan Kent
Michael rooker should be bibi
Sean Gunn as Jimmy Olsen
@@nendoakuma7451 Skyler Gisondo will star as Jimmy in Legacy
@@Merdicano not a bad choice 😂
I can TOTALLY see him as Lex Luthor
I heard they cast Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen as well, and I think both of them are fantastic picks.
Not surprised if he becomes one of the best villains on screen !
If you want to see how menacing Hoult can be, watch "Those Who Wish Me Dead." It wasn't a really good movie but his performance as one of the villains was really good.
I appreciated how Kris described the assembly of the cast 👏🏼
I think Lex should be portrayed as an evil Batman. A man pretending to be good who hides a hateful cynical psychotic side of himself. No powers but incredibly talented and wealthy. Cunning and manipulative. The antithesis of a humble, loving and genuine Clark Kent.
Great casting. Eisenbergs Luther was developed strangely. Luther was a small frantic villain who couldn’t get along socially. I want the business savvy, tough mastermind Luther which I think we barely saw with Hackman or Spacey. That’s like my comic book idea of Luther. I think Holt can really bring the intensity, and Gunn can write a script. I’m hoping we can have the ensemble slow walk sequences cut down a bit, there was like 4 of them in the suicide squad.
He's a very good choice, and I can see him in the role.
I disagree with you on casting, tho. In comic book movies, especially ones where the characters are almost universally known and beloved, like Superman, you have to go for the look first, and hope the actor steps up to the challenge. After all, it's not Shakespeare. Famous actors charge top dollar to star in superhero movies, so they can afford to charge barely anything to star in the Indie movies they really want to act in. Henry Cavill looked liked Superman, but he's not a great actor. But, he has a strong screen presence, and that's just as important. Few people would have called John Wayne a great actor (True Grit aside), but he was the biggest star in the world for 30 years.
Good thing Legacy is getting the best of both worlds. Good, to great, actors who also look the part. ❤✌
now james gunn needs to hire Josh Helman also from mad max fury road (and xmen first class as william stryker) as their new Joker, he convinced me in fury road that he could possibly make a good joker
Hoult is gonna kill it as Lex Luthor! I know he will 🙂
7:22-7:26 Well, when you compare Raja Gosnell's filmography to James Gunn's filmography, I think we can notice who's the culprit behind the live-action Scooby-Doo duology
Walking in the shoes of Gene Hackman haha.. well the recent ones haven't been great so it shouldn't be too hard to look better
Nicholas Hault is a fantastic actor and will make an inspiring choice to play Lex Luther.
They probably had to wait until "The Great" was officially cancelled, so he was free from his "Peter" obligations. Huzzah!
I could see him like a John Shea Lex from the Lois And Clark TV series more charismatic
Super keen for this.
Superman Legacy castings are GOATED ! Can’t wait for the DCU to start 🔥
Bloated also.
The key to Luthor is a mix of charm and menace. I would have preferred Alex skarsgard as he conveys this but I’ll give Hoult a chance.
Meh I was waiting for them to cast Toby Maguire as Lex Luthor "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye Superman"
L post
You know who did awesome as Lex Luthor? John Crier in Supergirl
Good pick...
In my opinion, Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville will always be the best Lex Luther.
Great choice!
Trust me, if you want to see how good Nicholas Hoult can be when it comes to playing a villain/bad guy, watch him in True History of Kelly Gang. He’s an incredibly unlikeable and despicable in that movie
I want Lex to be understated and chill. Not crazy Evil. He is always in control. Think Dustin Hoffman in Mad Money or Robert Dinero in Angel Heart. I don’t want to see NH do this. Hear I am Lex Luther the evil genius.
Billy Zane back in the day was my pick. When The Rock first went bald I was hoping he would push for the role but he chose black Adam instead. Hopefully this guy will do great🤷🏾♂️
Billy Zane would've been great
Billy Zane is dead on Luther. Love it.
Gene Hackman is my favorite Lex Luthor.
Gunn is brilliant hirin runner to go against guy who got da part … a lil professional envy never hurt anybody…can’t wait 4 there scenes together..,
So, what things I've seen him in, not my first choice, but they seem to be going some what younger so that makes sense. Not like I've seen anything that makes me question the casting. Then again - I'm still laughing they cast a Philly boy to play raised in the Midwest Clark Kent (as someone from the Philly area and interacted with a fair number of people from the midwest).
Always a bit cringe hearing him call middle-aged Canadians as Canadian kids. I remember when. He reserved thay title for younger actors still making a name for themselves.
Hopefully Gene Hackman can make a cameo!
Dudes a walking corpse
amazing gambling disclaimer
I still want Bryan Cranston to be Lex. An older and more experienced Luthor would be more threatening
I love Cranston, but we don't need a 70 year old Lex Luthor.
Thing is they need somebody who can be lex for the next decade or more so I think that’s why they went pretty young here. Plus I’m sure they wanted lex to be around the same age as superman
This is giving me Superman returns vibes. lol
How so?
@@Guyyyy2027 hard to explain, it just does
@@Yousuckdeeznutsme too 😂
@@Guyyyy2027probably the tone
Yeah because superman returns had:
The authority, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and took elements from “What’s So Funny…”
Oh wait…no it didn’t.
The only similarities so far are the characters that pop up in literally every other superman media (Lois, Jimmy, Lex)…and even then Hoult is nothing like Spacey as an actor, Brosnahan is a different actress than Bosworth.
so idk what you’re getting at.
You also had The Skaarsgard Brothers (Bill and Alexander) for Lex Luthor
I think Bill Skaarsgard should play this DCUs joker.
Then Alexander as Batman
@@BlackGodKing-oi2grDude, that casting would be brilliant 🤯. Their brother bond in real-life brought in the non-related but neverending rivalry as hero and villain could make a throughline at Batman and Joker. Count me sold!
@@BlackGodKing-oi2gryea I like that 👍
Hope he builds up and shave
I only know the guy from skins 😂
That's where the real ones know him from
About a boy, which, if I remember correctly was like literally one of his first films when he was like 12 or 13
@@Eva_H Yea, but Skins was just on another level...there was a ridiculous amount of talent on that show...Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel, Daniel Kaluuya, Kaya Scodelario, Jack O'Connell, Hannah Murray, Joe Dempsie etc.
@@jorssu13he was soo good in skins made me hate his character
All I care about is that he plays the villain really well, the last version in the DCEU was not really great, didnt really feel like lex luthor. after people like Gene Hackman and Michael Rosenbaum, those two to me set the bar for a great lex luthor, Just hope Nicholas does really well as the character to give that feel of Lex Luthor
YEEEEESSSS! He's an intence wicked actor. I think he'd be able to play evil-smart. (Side note, i always thought he'd be a great batman/Bruce W
Hoult is a FANTASITC actor, don't get me wrong...But I would have liked to seen an actor with more gravitas in the role, like a Bryan Cranston.
I mean, they're obviously going for a younger cast lol. Would be weird af is Superman is in his 30s and Lex is approaching 105
@@DRDR3ADSA Granted, Cranston is a abit old at 67...But a John Ham at 52 would work, and still has that gravitas. Obviously they are keeping them close in age, but it doesn't have to be like that. I kinda like the the idealism and vigor of Superman, juxtaposed to the seasoned, mastermind of Lex.
Tony in Skins
I can't complain about the casting of Hoult at all. However, I hope his approach to playing him won't be like the performance of Jesse Eisenberg. I can't take a goofy LL serious. A definitive LL is someone who is authoritative, means what he says and says what he means. His arrogance and pride is felt when you share a space with him and he doesn't shy away from ofc from using underhanded tactics to get what he wants.
I was hoping he would be Batman
He seems more like a Wayne than a Luthor.
I've been a fan of his work since Skins but having a great actor doesn't mean they'll be great for the role. Christian Bale is a great actor and his Gorr was terrible.
That's because Love and Thunder was a terrible film.
Bale did the best with what he had.
Hoult would make a great James Bond
you’d really have to try hard to make me believe this Lex Luther would be someone people would vote for as President
I mean... look who's gotten to be President the last two elections.
Why he would be young rich and handsome and a real good talker.JFK was the same in the 60's and probably the only president I knew of who was a bachelor with no wife
The Belko Experiment was admittedly a letdown. Gunn wrote it, but didn't direct it.
At least it isn't Esienberg
Personally I was really wanting to see Michael Fassbender have a go as Lex Luthor. The dudes played aspects of what would make up a great Lex throughout the characters in his career and I think he would’ve been the best of them if he had the opportunity. For Hoult, After seeing how many roles new superhero roles he’s missed out on this feels like they felt sorry for him and did some charity work…. I don’t care for Hoult at all and I didn’t see him as any of the roles he tried out for
@@AM-dk3wy yea it makes sense they’re going younger to make them kinda equal and all that shit but I would’ve also preferred one of the skarsgards over Hoult. personally I really like it when there’s an age gap between heroes and villains and it ain’t like Fassbender is slowing down or aging crazy like just see him in ‘The Killer’ and the role of Lex isn’t a super physically demanding role either… but oh well
Little young but I can see it
I trust James Gunn, but this guy seems kind of quirky to be Lex.
Are we getting president luthor storyline from the comics?
Back in his SKINS days I never thought he was a great actor. He’s come far
James Gunn’s worst directorial project has to be his section of Movie 43?
Their not making Lex Luther a Spanish woman, DC is way behind Marvel. Perhaps Blackrock needs to contact James Gunn and wrangle him in.
😂
Just how many characters are in this movie?
My feeling is that this film will only be a mild hit when released. The casting is not getting me excited or getting my attention. James Gunns films since the first Guardians have been only ok so I don't have much hope for his early years Superman film. Loved Henry Cavill as Superman though.
lol let's wait for 2025. The casting is fresh which is nice. Henry cavill was also new face when he was casted as superman. I trust gunn's directing.
I’m sorry but Superman Legacy to me just sounds too stuffed with characters… I guess if they can still pull off telling a compelling Superman story, but how can they with so many characters who need screen time of their own?
James gunn is good at assemble films. I trust that he will do a good job
03:17
Ok, I felt excited and even felt kinda interested in superman legacy only because od Nicholas. But knowing that they gonna have miss teschmacher in the movie? Really? I loved superman the movie but it was movie that worked because those were different times, the comics that were source material were at least two decades BEFORE the movie and back in those days the villians were kinda evil but also funny. The miss teschmacher character was fine for that era, even the kitty character in SReturns was fine... But now what? We're having a great actor like Nicholas Hoult screaming "Miss Teschmacheeeer!" with a Gene Hackman style? Why WB keeps doing this? Why they can't just Leave the Reeve movies alone for God's sake, move on from them and make something that its own identity
And Ms. Eve Tschmacher actress was also officially casted along with Jimmy Olsen.😊
They should have gone older.
@@CalebJacobs459 "ungrateful fans"? Damn, okay. What I should have said is that to me he gives off Jesse eisenberg vibes (who I'd like to forget). I think he's a well enough actor but comes off as a henchmen more than what lex luthor is supposed to be which is far more menacing than Mr warm bodies. All that being said, all I want is a good movie so I hope it's a good fit.
@@CalebJacobs459 I gave an opinion and we go from im "ungrateful" to I "can't see the bigger picture". If I'm ungrateful then this is straight up toxic. Hope you enjoy the movie.
Andrew Tate would make the perfect Lex.
David Goggins better
Lol no
He’s a good actor, but I can’t picture him as Lex. This seems like just a better version of the “young Luthor” trope that they keep forcing where Lex is a millennial, which I don’t like.
or pattinson as batman?
What's wrong with a Luthor that's in his 30s ? That would be a millennial
@@aleksandarradovanovic8496 Bale's Gorr was terrible even though he's a great actor.
If he goes bald and gets on steroids, he’ll look like lex luthor
Lex as a peer to Superman is much more compelling than Lex who is old.
I’m on the fence about it I really like Nicolas Hoult as an actor I think he’s still a little Miss cast as Lex Luthor
I think they chose the right guy here actually. Dude is a pretty versatile actor so u might be surprised what he ends up doing with this role
Why a miss cast? He's going do a great job imo
@@freshnoodles2108 Not in my opinion, I've seen the majority of his movies and he just doesn't have the type of temperament that I can see. Lex luthor having lex luthor's temperament is all about power. It's all about outsmarting people and being the smartest person in the room along with manipulation. I just don't think Nicholas Holt can be convincing enough to portray that like a Gene Hackman could on the big screen.
I’m sure superman will be intimidated by a teenager
Lol this is pretty much in the same ballpark as casting Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor honestly 😭
5:41 soyboys playing Lex the Villain i dont see it this looks like a flop waiting to happen SMH
wow you have not seen the movie yet and you all ready judge huh how interesting
I would like to see how you look compared to this "soyboy"
last time I saw someone named ROBERT PATTINSON played BATMAN.
Hopefully Gene Hackman can make a cameo!
He's ben retired for some years now.
