- One more to go until the big games begin! The Edmonton Oilers come to town to faceoff against the Colorado Avalanche that, in the end, won't have much meaning in the standings, but could have a lot of meaning for other reasons.
The Avs haven't been playing all that well lately. So how will they handle this game? Will they treat it like any other, go all out and get a winning mentality before the playoffs? Or will they work on specific aspects, make sure nobody gets injured, and see that as a win?
We also discuss the ESPN documentary "Saving Sakic" that looks back at the time Harrison Ford saved Joe Sakic from moving to New York and playing with the Rangers.

Regarding playoffs, just depends which Avs decide to show up. Regular season bipolar Avs with loose defense and sketchy goaltending is likely a quick exit. An Avs team that draws on their playoff experience and plays high intensity playoff hockey is dangerous. The hope is they took that 7-0 drubbing personally and the Jets find themselves battling a very different team than they saw at any point during the season. Guess we’ll find out soon.
Will be at the game tonight and just going to enjoy it without worrying about the result.

Was pondering this very question before turning you in. I feel like they use this game to work on their defensive zone play. Are they making smart plays to get out of the zone. I agree that they’ll probably roll four lines equally or thereabouts. Need something positive out of this game going into the playoffs especially from Georgie

If you're going to work on things, the score is going to reflect if that work was successful lol. I guess it doesn't matter if they win or not, but it would be nice to have one going into the postseason. What I want to see: DEFENSE. Clear the freaking zone. Protect the goalie and give him confidence that they will help him. Limit the odd man rushes. Mindful passing. Avoid turnovers. Maybe let the forwards focus on the scoring and the defensemen play defense. Sometimes it feels like they are rolling 5 forwards and zero defensemen. And yes, roll all four lines and see what they've got. The depth disappeared when the winning streak ended. Very concerning.
I don't think Edmonton is going to totally take the night off, either. I wouldn't rely on that.
It is absolutely unacceptable to rest players in a home game. The top guys may play less, but the fans at Ball deserve to see them play. Nobody will be getting partial refunds for each player who sits. If they were in Edmonton you could sit guys, but I am not of the mind set that they have earned that

I would actually start Annunen, and put Georgie in a goalie rehab of a couple goalie coaches and a couple of psychologists. Hell, if I am paying millions to my goalies, why not spend an extra hundred K.
Bednar said he doesn't want guys getting stale, so he's treating this as a practice. Start Juice, callup Foudy, Wagner (2 goals tonite), Kovalenko, Malinski? Insert Jones, & Kivi. Rest the top guys or just play them very little. Don't give other teams any video of a try hard effort; take care of that at practice with Nate cracking the whip, lol. At this point, its about Monday. Eyes On The Prize!

This podcast is so easy to answer. Rest the top 2 offensive lines by playing them for only 10 minutes and you will have energy for the start of the playoffs. Mackinnon will not win the Hart trophy so no need to invite more than 3 players to the awards. Finally, Saving Sakic is definitely worth watching over at ESPN +. Awesome Sauce !!!!!!!

The Avs don't need rest, they need to figure themselves out. Rest won't solve their problems. They haven't played a game since Sunday as it is, so what's taking it easy tonight going to do?

Upcoming game is meaningless. Not worth watching. Having watched the Avs and TB several times this season I think Kucherov will win the Hart. Kucherov was involved in exactly half of the TB goals this season. Without him TB doesn't make the playoffs. Having said this, MacKinnon has had an amazing season, but finishes second.

You may be right. If the numbers were everything, you're correct. If there is any subjective opinion in the decision-process, Mack wins, for 3 reasons. 1. If you need to win a "must win" game, most NHL GMs/Coaches would take Mack (my assumption). 2. If you want an all around player, Mack wins, again, even w/fewer points. 3. If you look at character, Mack has a focused "win at all cost" mentality, and would never show up (apparently) impaired, and totally make a mockery of an All-Star appearance. That effort by Kuch was literally cringe. This vote will be interesting, as they are both insanely talented.
