- On the playoff preview episode of Jets Setting, Postmedia’s Rob Wong chats with Winnipeg Sun Jets writer Scott Billeck and Winnipeg Sun Sports Editor Ted Wyman about the Jets’ first-round playoff series against Colorado. They discuss what the Jets need to do in order to advance, x-factors for Winnipeg and also their predictions for the series.
Considering the Jets also contained both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their playoff series against the Oilers a couple of seasons ago, they are absolutely capable of doing the same with Nathan MacKinnon and the rest of the Avs' big boys!

As an Avs fan, I like that logic as two years ago, they completely neutralized everyone including the Oilers top brass on their way to winning the cup so I’m sure that will happen exactly the same during the playoffs this year 😂

But they couldn't do it to vegas last year. The avs are 100 times better than the oilers. It doesn't matter, I don't see the jets getting out of WC.

@@POSS99 Considering Vegas were proven cheaters last year, that doesn't matter in the slightest, as the league was rigged so that the Golden Showers were 1000% guaranteed to "win". Buttman rigged it, and every hockey fan with a properly functioning brain knows it! Oh- and for the record- the Winnipeg Jets will be winning the Stanley Cup this season!

If Hellebuyck fails in any sense there is LB in relief who has had a great year too. The Jets have the best goaltending in the league, an advantage they can exploit.

I honestly think this years playoffs for the Jets are going to veeeery different from last year since Bowness called out the team last year. It was a long play so we’ll see if it works. The jets are one of the best defensive teams with two of the best goalies in the league. And they have size, firepower, and 4 really solid lines. I hope they go far

The Jets will be in the hunt for 3 bragging rights when they host the Canucks on Thursday: fewest goals against - currently 197 - they have to limit the Canucks to no more than 2 (Panthers allowed 200 over 82); most regulation wins - currently 45 - if they don't lose in regulation then this would be theirs and the Canucks would finish second with 44; most regulation+overtime wins, which would be theirs if they win without going to a shootout.

The Jets couldn't care less, and will sit most of their starters.

Well considering the avs just won the cup and as I check my notes, no Winnipeg doesn’t have a cup, I’m going go with does Winnipeg have what it takes to beat the Avs.

@@budrocker33Colorado has a different goalie now, though, and I have zero confidence in Georgiev, whereas Hellebuyck is a primo goalie. It’s going to be tough for the Avs to stop the top 2 lines of the Jets from scoring a pile of goals.

Blocking everything headed towards Hellebuyck, but also Hellebuyck stopping everything getting to him. He needs to stop at least two for sure goals per game.

I tend to agree. Quite a few teams in the playoffs this year with mediocre goaltending, whereas the Jets have primo tending. They also have an excellent second line, with Ehlers, Monahan, and Toffoli. If Lowry’s line can hold off the MacKinnon line, the other Jets lines can score a lot of goals. Georgiev is a mediocre tender, I can see the Jets lighting him up all series.

I'm just tolling, but how about them apples. Georgiev was one the Avs MVP last year and had the most wins this year. In playoffs, it isn't points that important its wins, and if your one save better than the other guy, and it isn't save percentage either

Colorado relies fully on outscoring their opponents because their defence is mediocre and their starting goalie has the worst stats I've seen since Grant Fuhr was lucky enough to be playing behind a juggernaut Oilers dynasty that scored at will. The Avs will have to get past a tough Jets D to get shots on arguably the best goalie tandem in the NHL. The Jets on the other hand won't have too many problems getting quality scoring chances. The Avs will either have to score first and switch to a defensive game they don't have or play catch-up against the Jets' high scoring offence.
The Jets take it in 5, I'd say they'll sweep but that's a wee bit cocky, even Georgiev can have 1 good game once in while where his team doesn't have to score 5 goals to hide the fact he's a sieve.
The question is does Toronto have a solution for Boston

Hey fellas, Jets backup Laurent Brossoit will be a UFA after the season, he'll be looking for a starting position, if the Leafs are willing to trade a couple guys, like say Ilya Samsanov and Max Domi, they could probably sign Bro to a 5-6 year contract for roughly $6 million per, and he's earned his right to be a starter last season with Vegas, Jets were lucky to get him on a 1 year deal as a back-up. Toronto has all their faith in a Cup on the Leaf's offense just like Colorado, and I'd bet that the Avs will also seriously consider upgrading their goal situation by signing the Jets backup as a starter in the off-season.
This is like 2022 Avalanche vs the Blues round 2. Plays the trap, has two great goalies, takes advantage of any mistakes, and has a high-end defensive center but not offensively. But they're hoping the Avs don't come to play, because if both teams are at their absolute best, they can't keep up for a full series.
There's no answer they have for the ability of MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Makar, and the Jets will have their hands full with Drouin, Lehkonen, Nichushin, and Mittelstadt, Toews, Girard, and now Walker. Do you really think MacKinnon of now is gonna deal worse this year with Lowry than he did against ROR two years ago? Bednar paired them up; he ate that matchup and asked for seconds. Maybe the team doesn't show up, and it goes like you say, but you're missing what this Colorado team turns into in the playoffs
Jets don't play the trap typically two forechecking forwards and they do give up a lot of uneven or even rushes. They sort things out well in the defensive zone similar to Vegas. That third line of Lowry play a physical cycle game that leads to a lot of their ice time played in the offensive zone but not a lot of finishing.
McKinnon, Rantanen and Makar are miles ahead of anyone on the Jets and their blueline is more offensively talented. The forward group on the Jets is more talented in the second third and fourth line positions. Goaltending strongly in favor of the Jets. I do agree that Colorado will play better in the playoffs than they did during the regular season against the Jets there was no compete or battle from the Avs.

Also Colorado got beat by Seattle if round one last year. If that’s what they turn into for the playoffs, along with their awful goaltending, the jets shouldn’t be too worried
