Exactly what I was thinking. I also thought that the bigger box section should have a false bottom to hide thin things like a small stack of paper money or folded up paper note.
There was a company that made oak wood desks in America, in the 1940s & 50s, that had a hidden locking drawer. I was a teacher at a school that had them. By following a certain sequence, of opening the main drawers, you could reveal a way to open the hidden top drawer, where you could store money or special papers.
I watched a cop try to open one of these because he was absolutely CONVINCED that there just HAD to be illicit drugs inside. It was hilarious, more so because he found NOTHING, even after having it sent to the lab to be dissected & trace swabbed. He thought he had something, I guess. We tried to tell him, repeatedly, that it was just something my Neuro divergent friend was into & had accidentally left it in the back seat of the car. I guess he thought we were trafficking (pulled over for speeding on I-75, which is definitely the Michigan/Ohio to Florida drug pipeline or was at the time.) All that tax $$ absolutely WASTED without even actual probable cause. All because a cop couldn't work out a puzzle box. 😂
I absolutely love these My grandfather made me a set of horse shoes with a big ring between them and it is all hooked together by 2 small chains that are Welded together I’ve played with it for 4 decades It’s all in how you twist it 😂

That might work also. I'm thinking the handle portion works as the locking of the top slider.
