@keir193 Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK, therefore not part of "the Empire." No Irish person or Scottish person for that matter would EVER consider themselves British, unless of course your friends are from Northern Ireland. If not and your friends do in fact identify themselves as British then they know little of their own heritage.
