Great Video! The only thing I have to add for subscribers would be to apply two pieces of masking tape, one to the base plate of the drum assembly and one on the bottom of the washer, then apply a mark with a pen or sharpie on both pieces of tape so you can perfectly realign the drum assembly to its original position. Thanks again.

Amazing help. For people doing this, make sure to use the links in the bio for the replacement parts. I used a different site and over paid by a lot. The springs I got cost $35 and his link cost $13.

Finally got to our Older Maytag Performa 2300 Washer tonight. It kicked my rear end. Lucky I had some help lifting the tub out. The 2 rear springs were a bear to take out and reinstall new ones. The rest were not so bad. I will be 71 years old come February. Don’t have the strength I once had. Was surprised to find the Nylon Ring was in what looked to be nice shape no tears in it. If there was wear after all these years I didn’t notice it. Still I installed a new nylon ring and new springs. Did a load right after and it seems to be much better. Before I would have to open the hood it was jumping around so much. I would then try to adjust the cloths until it ran good again. It was happening too often. It almost seemed like the tub was going to jump out of the cabinet. On another note thanks for doing this video. It was a big help. Just a little bit of advice to older guys like myself you may need help lifting like I did and those Springs might be too much for you. Other then that I enjoyed doing this job. I think I spent no more the $20 for a set of 6 Springs and the Nylon Ring.

I have the same washing machine as in this video. Followed the exact instructions and now it seems that I have a new washer that's 18 years old. Wasn't looking forward to buying a new washer with a circuit board and water efficient that doesn't use enough water to wash your clothes. This saved the day, and a little money too. Thanks

Your instructions worked perfectly for me and as near as I can tell saved me more than $1,000!! You are an awesome individual for posting this. I really appreciate it! I did have trouble stretching the new spring onto the back left spot because I couldn’t see nor reach it. So that one I accessed via the little opening in the back right side, and I fashioned a little lever tool to make it easier.

I did have a back panel on my machine and it made accessing the back springs easier. My local appliance repair shop told me it was a two man job and it was going to be a costly repair. Thanks for saving me some $.

Hi, I think you missed one thing. If your Performa is like ours, there is a panel in the back near the pump. 4 x 5/16 screws and it comes completely off. You now have great access to those back springs. So much easier and you have much better leverage to connect them. Thanks for the great video. It made the whole thing easy.

  • @moonlightentertainment763

This is a great video. I'm not sure what's the reason my Maytag is vibrating SO BAD, but with your video I can now check the springs and maybe just buy all the parts you have here and replace everything. It don't seem to be a very hard thing to do if I follow step by step of this video. I also watched a different video on how to replace the agitator dogs also, so I might just buy the parts for that too. Thank you!!!

I leave the extra long screws in place and just retighten everything...I've changed the snubber..3 times in 22 years...that machine was made in the old Herrin plant..and the drive mechanism is called a Herrin drive...it's from the Norge plant..Maytag purchased the plant to sell a Norge washer to home depot under the Maytag brand...it washes great buy was a pos from day 1...the video should include changing the belt..pump..big wheel..and bearing and seals.. and all suspension springs and motor suspension pins....it's 300 dollars in parts but well worth it for a machine that washes so well..the upper bearing was upgraded from a 2 piece to a 1 piece unit...I've changed every part on my machine including lid switch and front legs and rear suspension legs along with the motor and complete lid hinges...I did it as a hobby with a mechanic friend of mine...but a reasonably handy person should not be afraid...the matching dryer blows a heat fuse every now and then..I keep the 3 piece set handy at all times...the washer also turns black inside and while I have it apart all parts are power washered and bleached...as I said it's a hobby for me and have brand new ge"s
that aren't worth a shit with there inverter motor

Hello, very clear video, thank you. I changed the snubber of my Magic Chef W20HN2CH that is pretty similar to the machine in the video. It has three strong springs instead of six smaller one. It solved my problem (but stills shake a little) but now, the drum continues to turn on its momentum after the spin has stopped. What could cause that ? A small plastic piece seem to have fall from the washer but I'm not sure.

Great video. Helped me a lot. One question though, why maintain 3 screws on the snubber plate? I understand that there is a spring underneath but there is another retainer that holds the spring, right? That plate is loose with the 3 longer screws. So, there doesn't appear to be any force on it.

Hi, I followed this tutorial 99% to the letter, the only exception being that I took the pulley off to get better access to the snubber retainer screws. The e-clip was impossible to get back on, so I drilled/tapped a hole in the center of the shaft and put a bolt in it to hold the pulley on. Got it all back together, and now it won't spin. The motor runs, the pulley turns, but the basket won't spin. Is there something else in the transmission that could have been broken and dislodged when I turned the tub over? If so, I might as well buy a new washer, because the transmission is $505...

    • @paulhbrown
      @paulhbrown Před rokem +1

You need to put the e-clip on. You might have to remove the washer beneath it. There are instructions on the web (search for thrust bearing
replacement) to make sure the keyed plastic part under the washer is seated properly.

I am back again. I have a question if anyone can answer it for me since I did this job just a year ago. I have another problem. At the moment 3 days ago my wife told me the machine Agitator and inner Tub does not spin. The first thing I checked was the Lid switch which is working plus the Motor which runs and engages. Next I disconnected the power and tilted the cabinet back to check the belt and it was fine still connected but the transmission pulley felt like it was moving up and down on the transmission’s shaft. Next I took the belt off and the Pulley slid off to the floor. At that point I stopped and started looking for answers on You Tube and so far I am striking out. No responses from anyone. I then tried to move the inner part of the main tub and Agitator from above. They had moved a little. But seemed like they locked up. I purchased a new trust bearing kit although I replaced the original just 5 years ago so I don’t know if I can turn it with the same pulley back on or new one as of right now. The cap is still on so apparently I am thinking the C-Clip must of slid off the shaft after 5 years. Either that or the transmission is bad or brake assembly is not letting it spin. Any ideas are surely appreciated. I am not ready to give up on our Maytag Performa if I can help it for one of those crappy new machines they are selling today. Hoping the transmission isn’t bad. I read somewhere they are not available. Has anyone heard of the brake assembly locking up the transmission stopping it from Agitating or spinning the inner drum?

I changed all those parts and the belt. Work's good now but still makes lots of noise in the spin cycle. WHY IS THAT? Thanks

Very common for your drain pump pulley to go bad. If not that could be a gearbox/transmission issue

I am not a appliance tech but 5/16" is not the correct size socket(way loose) for the snubber ring housing; although, it works if you use a thin wall 6 point socket. The correct socket is 8mm but the pulley gets in the way on my Performa so either way so a 1/4" drive u joint socket extension would be nice or get creative on turning the socket to loosen and tighten. Another useful note * the stock screws for the snubber ring housing can be backed out plenty without using longer bolts.

I have a brand new Maytag washer that is shaking and walking. After three attempts by delivery men to unsuccessfully level the washer to solve the problem the Maytag warranty company finally sent out a repair tech. He kept saying it was normal for the machine to shake like that. He said it was my floor that it wasn't level. I pulled out my level and we checked it it was level and the machine was level. I was not satisfied with all his easy suggestions. He continued to look and found a bent shock. He replaced the shocks and the speed sensor which he said he got three error messages on. My machine still shakes the same as it did before. I put a water bottle on the top of the washer to show him that it looks like we're having an earthquake! The text said it's just hula dancing and it was normal! I don't think so. Not normal. I had to call the warranty company again. Another tech is coming out in May. I will suggest he look at these items you have suggested. I'm about to tell them to come back and get these pieces of garbage! I thought Maytag was a good brand. 😕

Sounds like a lazy tech that doesn't want to earn his pay.

How is it we don't see you remove or replace the rear most tension spring? I mean, that's the main reason for watching a vid like this, how did you handle the bitchy parts. Seems like you copped out on this

At the end of every sentence you end on an up note. That is very annoying and I could not watch the video. You might want to practice speaking better
