      Will have to try that. Beats putting coins/washers between the coils

    I have this exact washer and it's wobbling badly during the spin cycle. I think the damper pads need replacement. I could not believe I found this video on how to do it. Looks a bit beyond what I'm prepared to do however, so, I think I'll be looking into buying a new one. Thank you anyway, for at least confirming it's enough of a pain-in-the-butt that I don't want to attempt to fix it myself. ;-)

    One nice thing about this video is that the repairman gives some tips that you can only learn from experience so thanks for passing those pro tips on to us. One thing I'm wondering about is why couldn't you just put some fresh greas on the existing pads.

    Thank you for this video. It was very detailed and was a great help. I replaced the damper pads and while I was at it, I replaced the two bearings and the belts. I have a question regarding the drive lug. After I put everything back together, although the drive lug is flush with the shaft, only about half of the thickness of the drive lug hits the stop lug on the pulley. Is that ok and if not what can be done about it?

    What is the symptom of bad pads? Noise or excessive movement?
    Thanks!

    Good day, problem is strong unbalanced during spin at all time. Same model as presented in the video. The washer is very well level on floor on all side. I removed the front the panel as described and all springs are in places. By hand I moved the drum quite easily back to front left to right. Spring do not look worn or over stretched.
    Is the solution is tighten the holding spring bolts ? Any other solutions to this problem ?

    does the motor reverse to spin? How does the brake work? Why is the belt so loose??

  • @rickeykeeton4770
    @rickeykeeton4770 Před 5 lety +1

    By any chance, can these pads cause the washer not to spin?
    Not likely I assume. Washer has not been used in about 6 years. Thinking the bearings may be trying to sieze. :(

    you need to show some close ups for visual details of putting some parts on or off...would really help with the little important details but a good video...where does a diy guy get the brake wrench? without that it cannot be done..

    If you are doing this job without removing the whole tub like theapplianceman aka Angel Acevedo featured in his video i would advise you to find a reasonable sized mirror to help you install the rear damper pad in back of the machine. Its alot better than squeezing your hand through that rear access hole, and besides in my case i have an older Maytag that has a drain solenoid which uses that access hole. I did not wanna go through the trouble removing the hoses, and the solenoid to align that rear damper pad. Also invest in a circular wire brush attachment for your drill to clean the surfaces before gluing on those new pads.

    I have a choice between fixing the balance on a newer Samsung or a 1983 Maytag and I will be fixing the old Maytag.
    Newer washers are just garbage.

    Completed the repair including removing and replacing the brake but now the tub spins too fast in the wash cycle and water spills over the top of the tub. Any advice on what could be happening?

      the belts might be on the wrong pulleys....that would change speed of drum if pulleys are different diameters..

    What specifically do damper pads do?

    • @FixDotCom
      @FixDotCom  Před 7 lety +2

      The damper pads restrict or dampen the movement of the tub assemblies during the spin cycle. This prevents damage to your washer from moderately unbalanced loads.

    What do bad damper pads cause to happen?

    • @FixDotCom
      @FixDotCom  Před 2 lety

      The entire wash assembly sits on those pads as you know, The assembly needs to be able to glide freely on those pads to allow the spring suspension assembly to do its job of keeping the washer aligned reducing vibration, Worn or sticky pads with restrict that movement and you will likely experience vibration in the machine and even cause the machine to move from its normal location.

      There are many brand new parts available that are still being produced since they were used (some still are) in other brands and models of washing machines. What they no longer manufacture are things like the brake wrench, since demand is no longer there. Sure, you and I would like to buy one, but how many 40 year old Maytag washers are out there having major repairs being done by their owners? I am currently running with 2 of the 3 damper pads still in place, and before I will tackle this job, I will be very seriously considering replacing my 40 year old Maytag with a front loader.

    What if you're dumb like me and took the springs out without the junction box. Whats the best way to stretch them back out and get back on?
