Hiking up Stone Mountain

We hiked up Stone Mountain near Atlanta, Georgia while we were en route to Florida from Michigan and stopped to visit friends for a few days.
The peaceful spot Ari remembers visiting as a kid is gone. It's a big tourism venue now with all kinds of paid attractions. But you can still hike up the mountain for a great view of the area and go to the bottom of the mountain to see the carving for a reasonable price.

There apparently has been some discussion about changing the carving or removing it but the exorbitant cost blocked much movement toward doing so.
