Conquering the Stunning Guadalupe Mountains National Park In Texas
We planned on visiting Guadalupe Mountains National Park but had not intended on hiking to the highest mountain peak in Texas. After some inspiration from friends, we decided to go for it, and we're so glad we did! This is one of the tougher hikes we have done, but it was worth it!
We also survived day one well enough to take another great hike on day two to Devils Hall, which included a lot of bouldering and climbing a waterfall!

Since changing our rigs from a 21-foot Roadtrek Class B motorhome to a 30-foot Airstream trailer, we have been receiving questions about the pros and cons of each, which we like better, and how the change has affected our travels and adventures. After about 18 months in the Airstream, we feel confident sharing highlights of how vanlife compares to living in an Airstream. In this video, we ask y...

The best trail in my eyes is the north country national scenic trail, It's 4800 miles ( estimated 1180 ish miles in Michigan) that goes from Vermont to north Dakota thru 8 states. It actually runs through both the porcupine mountain and wilderness state parks plus all of the Manistee national forest, pictured rocks and that's just in Michigan. It's the longest of the big trails and has some amazing sections.
I think USA is in love with Germany, WW2 period. So many artifacts finished their lives here...don't know what to think about that.
With the attack on Pearl harbor, it became a significant milestone in American history, and then it became the second largest death toll for American service members. Perhaps that's why it has remained one of the most studied and archived conflicts in our history...? -Ari
Nice video 😊
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I will be there in September, and plan to tour the Capitol. That will be number 36 for me.
9:20 - Oh, just air down 'n' go for it. You *do* carry a tire pump, don't you?
Yeah we do, and we were aired down. And when Jessi made it up Test Hill, it was after she realized she needed to just get on it and go! LOL Thanks for watching! -Ari
Love coming down to watch the Ore Freighter's Passing By!
It's a lot of fun to see the different ships. Algonac State Park has a campground with sites close enough to see the freighters from. You should check that out if you haven't. Thanks for watching!
Wanted to ask about your cat! Where's the cat box and how is it travelling with your kitty?
When we were parked, the litter box was between the seats up front. While moving, it was in the back aisle. Not ideal but we made it work and Tigger was always great about figuring out where it was. Sadly, he passed away so we no longer travel with a furry friend. Maybe again someday! Tigger adapted quite quickly to travel and we soon found him just sleeping on the bed/couch as we drove. He also learned to be on a lead outside at campsites, although often under the van where I think he felt safer. Overall, it was a treat to travel with him, although Jessi or I seemed to knock over his water dish nearly every day. 🙄 -Ari
The Texas play in the amphitheater is incredible. Our family has been to the play twice. Well worth the money. Hard to believe they can get ~50 actors/dancers to go to the middle of nowhere and perform night after night thru the summer. Go see it!
That sounds awesome. Definitely something we'll put on our list to check out when we're in the area again. Thanks for watching and for the tip!
Video doesn’t show much of 505, just shows them blabbing.
Cool hike and amazing views. I didn’t expect that in Texas. Thanks for sharing. 👍🙂
Glad you enjoyed it. So much of Texas doesn't look like the "Texas" we're all taught about. 🤠 Thanks for watching!
💥 Excellent information. Do you know where I can find the blower motor relay. I was told that’s why my blower fan keeps running after the ignition key is off because it’s bad.
If you mean find it as in where to buy it, most auto parts stores should stock it. I'm glad you found the video helpful! -Ari
@@Trekers thank you but no. I mean, where can I actually find it on my van because I can’t find the information anywhere. The Chevrolet dealership can’t even tell me. The blower motor relay, not the resistor.
Oh! From my research, I don't believe it has a relay. Check this out: www.justanswer.com/chevy/31wuc-location-blower-motor-relay-chevy-express-2500-van-2005.html
If you seen amphibious chart on the lake it's most likely a engineer Float bridge company. Pushing the bridge sections together or being used as ferries to transport across the lake. The lake is pounced lake Margerieth
I know you were in the Grayling area.
I was there about two months ago and had the same thought: "This is Texas?"
We have found so many places in Texas that don't meet the standard definition that most people have of that beautiful state! Thanks for watching and commenting.
That part of the country reminds me of Phil Sheridan's comment: "If I owned Hell and (West) Texas, I'd live in Hell and rent out Texas. Those trails needs some serious work with so rock softener, but the rangers are probably infected with the leave it as we found it disease rampant in the NPS. I recall a Ranger saying that the river in one section, of Big Bend, was once filled with oak trees but people cut them all down. I asked why the NPS hasn't replanted them and she was outraged that I would suggest changing the natural way it is now. Even tho doing so would be a major bone to the local critters and plants. And speaking of Big Bend those layered rocks look the same as those found around the springs there.
Thanks for taking me along on this great Adventure. The filming was very well done & the narration just right, packed with info. Due to "advanced maturity" I'm not going to get there in person, going with you folks is the next best thing! Thanks again.
When Jessi broke into song I thought for sure she was suffering from oxygen deprivation...🥵🌡🎶
Ha! I was surprised she had the energy to start singing. But the views and checking off the accomplishment made the trek worth it! -Ari
I did this in January on a day the ranger said had a 'temperature inversion' where it was warmer up top then at the bottom. Shorts and t shirt all the way up and down with no wind. Snow and ice the week before and after. My legs were sore for several days in any case. Down was def worse than up.
Wow, that was a crazy weather day, but no wind would be a bonus. And, yes, down took a bigger toll on us than up, although up was tough in its own way. 😄 Thanks for watching!
Wow you weren't kidding - the views are spectacular! Thanks for sharing your hike! BTW I love that watch - what make and model is it?
It wasn't easy but it was worth it. Jessi's watch is a Garmin Forerunner 55. Thanks for watching and commenting, we're glad you enjoyed getting to see the views! -Ari
Very cool - Thanks Ari
South Llano River State Park is a nice place
Yes it is. We liked it even in the rain. 😄 Thanks for watching!
@Trekers you're welcome. When I was there, it rained on us too.
I haven't been to Carlsbad since ~2001? There was no bat activity when I visited. Despite having been there this is the first time I've seen it in 4k .😆 Great video and tips. Thanks for sharing!
It's time to make a trip back and see the bats! 🦇😀 Thanks for watching and commenting.
You missed the pool! The pool was really cool to see, but I remember it being hard to find.
I remember looking for it and maybe seeing it but we weren't sure. So you're right, it's hard to find. Thanks KS for watching and commenting! -Ari
I have an OCD spouse. He wants to place EVERYTHING in a plastic bag- like the water hose. I do NOT want to do this. He will NOT be traveling with me. How do you store stuff in the divers door area? No worries. I travel a lot, as absence makes the heart grow fonder.
OCD can be helpful in a small space! LOL As for the drivers door, in this van and our current one, it's a bit of just stacking things in that fit, but we also keep stuff there that we need access to quite regularly, so we try not to overfill it. Thanks for watching!
Thank you , good video, I live here too. Hope you enjoyed our community. 🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤
We did! It's clear to us why the park and the town are so popular. Thanks for watching and commenting! And thank you for putting up with us tourists who regularly invade your community!! 😀
I went through the U-boat in the 80's as a kid, then when I went back in the late 90's they had sealed off the Courtyard it was in so you couldn't go through it anymore. I'm glad it's been reopened. You also forgot about the Body slices in the glass when listing things lol.
It is great that they were able to move it inside and reopen it for people to see and experience the whole boat. Thanks for watching!
It's easy to cross the river to the Bauer unit.
Thanks for watching and adding that tip!
My husband’s great great grandpa George Cuyler was the lighthouse keeper and his great grandma was also born there ❤️
Oh, wow! That's a cool family history tidbit. Thanks for watching and adding your comment!
Forgot to tell people it’s $30 per person to get on the ferry to the island
Yes, there is a charge for the Mackinac Island ferry, and it seems to keep going up. But the review was about Straits State Park, and you can visit that without taking the ferry. Still, you bring up a good point for people to know. Thanks for watching and adding your comment!
That was a great idea!
It really was a fun break on a long drive.
I did this roadtrip back in 2018, started in East Texas, drove across state to Guadalupe Mnt hiked early day and after drove to Carlsbad to go underground and cool off evening. Big fan of your journeys❤️ Safe travels!
That's quite a road trip! Thanks for watching; we're glad you like our treks!!
Checked it out this last weekend, it is quiet and the lake access is really nice...
Glad you enjoyed the park. Thanks for watching and for commenting to let us know!

Truly a real life Batcave and Ari & Jessi are the Dynamic Duo...🦇
Batman would have plenty of room down there, even with Robin and Batgirl and all the toys! 😄
Wow. You sure did butchered the name didn't you!? Also. U must educate yourself before you claim that all the elk have been killed off. You are the type of people who ruin our state with your nonsense
👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 exactly
🤣😂🤣😂 Clueless
Idk but I think would of sleep quite well in that submarine with the engines on considering how as a kid I slept through loud music blasting when it was the wedding or birthday parties of family members. Just give me two foldable chairs and a sweater and I’ll be out like a light bulb even if the big speakers were at full volume 😴😴😴
Ha, yep! One of our kids was like that, too. And a number of veterans have told us that you learn to sleep whenever you can, regardless of where you are. Thanks for watching!

Since you are in New Mexico, Land of Enchantment, visit White Sands National Park. It is near Alamogordo. I just watched 5 of your Michigan State Park videos...very nice.
Yep, we made it to White Sands and checked out the Alamogordo area. Lots of fun. We have a future video coming out on that. Thanks for watching our videos!
The McDonald's is really neat! I can't believe an entire town is devoted to aliens. How fun!?!!
It is an interesting place, that's for sure. Thanks for watching!
Didn't even know this existed. What an interesting little town 👽
Always wanted to go to Roswell. Liked and subscribed!
We did have fun there! Thanks for watching, liking, subscribing and commenting. You did all the things! 😀
I have some reservations about Garmin. I have a smaller unit in my car, which I update several times a year. It is now about 4 years out of date on local speed limits. These are on roads I drive almost every day, and which have had speed limit changes over the years (some increased some decreased). If Garmin can’t keep up with changes to speed limits, can I rely on them to be up to date with data such as bridge clearance? I’ve also had problems with destinations. I was once taken to a bank instead of a museum (Trip Advisor app to blame) and been taken 20 or 30 Km to destinations which were supposedly only 3 or 4 Km away - difference between road distance and “as the crow flies”.
We have not had any issues with Garmin staying up to date with data on speed limits, or any other functions. Maybe the newer models update more frequently and that takes care of that? Hard to say. As far as the total distance versus crow flies, we have noticed that on all GPS programs lately, even including things like Google Maps. You'll look to see how far away something is and then decide to go. And when you say start directions, suddenly the distance becomes much further because the first reference must have been as the crow flies, which doesn't do any of us any good!
The pet beach, and the rest of the shoreline has had high water for many years. When we used the park in my childhood (mid 80's) the pet beach was a true beach. Not the park's jurisdiction, but I understand the water management out the Sable River is a complicated issue?
True, the high water line has affected a lot of beaches and state parks in Michigan for many years. Interesting to know that it used to be a much better beach for pets. We suspected as much! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Working for IBM I went to the Chicago IBM education center many times over the 35 years I worked for IBM. I recall visiting the U505 twice over the years. At the time it was outside. Thanks for refreshing my memory of the old 1980s and 1990s, days for me. Anyone going to Chicago should take the time for a great hands almost on, history lesson.
Thank you for sharing your memories. We never saw it when it was outside but we are so glad that it was moved inside not only for its historic preservation, but also because the inside exhibit now is a fantastic experience. We appreciate you watching and commenting!
Nice video. I've lived in my Roadtrek (08C170P) for 7 months now. Similar layout but different. Only a 2WD but I trailer my side-by-side and dirt bike for off road adventures. I'm alone so plenty of room. Already put 14k miles on it travelling between MN & South TX. Did not know about the storage under the toilet. Nice find. Happy trails.
We no longer have our Roadtrek because our travel style changed and our needs changed so we changed our rig. But there are many days when we still miss our Roadtrek. It sounds like you are having some awesome adventures with yours. Safe travels and keep on trekin'!
Love your tshirt, Where did you get it? Please send a link
It's one of my favorites but I received it as a gift and I don't know where they bought it from! -Ari
I grew up in McGill Nevada I spent a lot of time out there we had a😊 family reunion out there every summer
What a great place to have nearby. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for doing these videos! They are very helpful as we plan our trips and try to knock out all the state parks. Have two small kids and would love to hear about the playground equipment in future videos if possible! Its always a crapshoot when we go if its a new extensive playground or just one or two old 1980s metal death slides lol.
We're glad you are finding these useful! Had to laugh out loud at the playground equipment. You are so right. A lot of times that has to do with how strong or big the friends of the park group is. We found numerous state parks where those types of updates are made possible only through volunteers and donations. The state doesn't seem to be investing in that type of stuff as much for families. And the old metal slides were good for learning about heat and at what temperature various parts of your skin can burn. So they really were more educational than modern slides. 😄 Safe travels to you and your family! -Ari
