- Stacy Shaw's '62 Falcon is the epitome of a "sleeper" car. With the fabricating skills of her husband Nathan and his shop, "One Guys Garage" along with Stacy, getting her hands dirty they have turned out one cool car! Nathan explains the story behind it...I had seen some guys starting to swap the 6cyl Ecoboost engines and research showed that the Ecoboost 4cyl currently used is just a Duratec platform with direct injection. A quick car-part.com search showed a plethora of Focus 2.0 engines in the salvage yards for $300-400. Yes, it would require quite a bit of fabrication work with custom mounts, intake and exhaust manifolds, and transmission adapter plate, but that's the fun part for me. The best thing is it would not require any cutting to the body of the car or strut towers like most other swaps would. We also rebuilt the suspension using mostly stock style parts and swapped an 8" rear axle with limited slip center section out of a Maverick. Stacy did a lot of the work herself including disassembling the engine, cleaning LOTS of salvage yard parts, and getting the kids out to the shop to help with various tasks. Like any combo that is out of the norm it required a little R&D once running. I blew it up on the dyno once, making the poor decision to run it to 8200 rpm with insufficient valve spring pressure. We fixed the engine and then broke several GM 4L60E transmissions before finding the right combo of parts without spending $6000 on a professionally built transmission. Engine is a 2006 "Duratec" 2.0 4cyl with factory aluminum block and stock head. Crank is borrowed from a manual trans Miata (forged) and it has forged Manley rods and Wiseco pistons. 30lbs of boost provided by a Precision 5858 ball bearing turbo. One Guys Garage fabricated equal length exhaust manifold and intake manifold. Spark and fuel is controlled with a Holley HP efi system running on E85. Transmission is a 2002 4L60E from a 4cyl S-10 with cryo and micropolished stock components with a Custom 9" PTC torque converter. Rear tires are Mickey Thompson 215/60/14 ET Streets. Our current best et is 10.71 at 123mph.

i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Bentlee Alessandro Instablaster :)
@Preston Khalil Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I've always been a 8 cylinder big cubic in motor type of guy. But, I like the heck out that car. Some serious cool factor there.
i'm sure a roll bar/cage is gonna be mandated soon ? love sleepers with unexpected engines . we have all seen the v-8 swaps , but stuff like this is hella cool to see for a change
why do you think it went to three tracks, gets kicked off each track after one pass.
I was like WOW a 4 cl no way lol
11.99 or quicker…
Those are the rules.
Those factory "dog dish" hubcaps.....Classic!👍Those are the icing on the cake of this sleeper.
Love how you kept it all stock appearing, including the interior.
Clean, fast and still gets 20mpg! Can you imagine pulling up to a guy in his new Vette with this and destroying his life.
I saw a VW Beetle absolutely destroy a beautiful Corvette during spectator drags at Seekonk Speedway in Mass. when I was a kid, funny as shit !!!!
apples and oranges.
@@frigglebiscuit7484 10.79? I guess the 2019 zr1 should do that.
28mpg.
I've always preferred sleepers to flashy, in your face cars. I'd love to take one of these and drop a slightly modded 2.3 or 2.5 and have a daily driver without the worries of an old motor. I've heard that the basic duratecs are anywhere from $400-600 from a salvage yard with shipping to your door. The base 2.0 duratec in my '07 Focus pulls quite well since the car is fairly light.
What a nice, clean Falcon! Ironing out all the wrinkles of a custom like this, is where all the fun lies! And it's quick and fast! Beautiful!
Great build. What you did with this car is fantastic. Good work.
My 63 falcon futura was and always will be my favorite. I loved that car and will get another. Its like a miniature galaxie 500. More people gathered around that car than any other I've owned.
This is by FAR my favorite Falcon!
What a clean nicely built car! Very impressive! I hope Stacy gets well soon.
I hope so too.
❤ those early Falcons, this one is an ultra cool build❤
This is so cool! Love the marriage of 4 cyl forced induction with old school ride. I bet it's a good driver as well. Well done!!
Love how the whole cars stance changes as soon as you hit the gas it hops up and it's gone. Nice car
The very definition of the word sleeper. Plain stock looking, unassuming kick ass little ride.
It's a real nice Falcon, they had some interesting lines. You really brought that old girl into the 21st Century with your unique engine build!
A fun and interesting video for the Falcon lovers like me. And what a sleeper you built. Just great y'all!!
Nice job beautiful build man classic but futuristic at the same time !
I love it, Ford in a Ford! Congrats on such a cool car Stacy!
What about the GM trans
What about it? Many Fords, GMs, and Mopars use transmissions from various suppliers. It's no different than all the Ford 9" rear ends pushing GMs down the strip...
I don't know, your the one who said Ford in a Ford
That means engine.
OH, so you meant to say Ford engine in a Ford. Got it
When you hear about a 4cyd Falcon you'd just scoff, and I did at first but this is just fantastic!
From the way it presents, to the simplicity of power to weight.
Just fantastic!
What a buttload of fun this thing must be.
Thanks for posting!
nice little falcon! nice restore, We use to run around and race those things when we were kids. Stock, they were fun an quick for there size. handled good too.
What a well setup sleeper!
WOW GREAT OLD FALCON RUN AGAIN
THANK YOU DETAIL VIDEO
What is not to love about this car. It preserves all the aesthetic beauty of the original car without being hacked up and painted like a clown car and has the temperment of a Bengal Tiger crossed with a Cheetah. Would be a hoot to put some flowers in the window, grocery bags in the back seat, dress up like Granny and blow the doors off people at the greenlight.
6:21 .....oh nice!
Back when I was a teenager my buddy Ernie's dad bought him the cheapest 6 cyl Falcon coupe they made, to keep him from stealing cars. He put a 427 in it. good times.
@@mrfkyobitch6282 could you make the front wheels on a 98 ranger quit eating tires?
I do in fact, live in a hood full of mexicans :)
one of the coolest cars i've seen in a long time!
I’m 65 years old and I had a White 62 Falcon. I thought it was beautiful.
Get well soon.
That's one Cool looking falcon.
Have fun and stay safe.
My prayers are for both you and Stacy.
Five lugs all the way around. Sorry to here Stacey has health issues hopefully she'll recover 100 percent. Preys go out to the young lady.
Did you mean "Prayers" or "Praise" . Not sure what Preys means.
That Falcon is an ego killer. Gotta love that.😎😎😎
A true sleeper..love the bench seats and hubcaps....11 secs is great going
Awesome! Good to see something off the beaten path.
Very KOOL !! Hope Stacy is doing better! GOD BLESS!!
I us to ride in one of those with grandfather when I was a kid. What a great memories Sr.
Nice Falcon!
Nice build buddy, Great Job!!
The best use of of a Falcon ..... ever ! Perfect sleeper !
Little cars with big engines are common. Little cars with little engines that make big speed are kind of rare. I was looking in the ford Racing catalog and saw this 4 cylinder. turbo crate motor with a claimed 300 HP and I thought it would be great in one of these Falcons and here it is! Great stuff!
I had a 62 ,with a 302. Fun to drive. Wish I still had it. Good job on your ride.
I just bought a 62 with a 302
What a great ride for that setup!
That's the best sleeper iv'e seen yet.
Squeaky clean. Very nice!
True sleeper!
these kind of videos inspire me to fix my falcon '61
Very nice setup, always love sleepers
That is a super clean build. Very very nice car.
very well thought out and executed ! alot of fun for the buck. and involved the family too. dont get any better than that. pass it on down [knowledge and car to the next generation} I wish my old 62 would of done that ! probably slapped that smerky smile right off some of those other drivers, that had 10 x what you had invested. that would be priceless my friend. just priceless!
GREAT LOOKING AND RUNNING FALCON GOOD JOB
Perfectly done !
Very straight little Falcon. A turboed 200 ci. Six would be my preference.
My first car was a 60 Falcon. Put a 200 cid in it (came with a 144cid) floor shifter for a stock 3 speed (blew a lot of trans) 14” tires 66 Falcon front bench 66 Mustang hubcaps (they looked good). Had it for 7 years (thru college) sold it to sister and she drove the hell out it for 5 more years and then traded it for a Mustang.
These little engines go, A guy by my house had the fastest 2.4 in a Dragster well over 200+ mph. I was delivering parts to his shop once when he started it up. Very powerful and loud. OMG.
Great build 👌
Awesome Ride !!!!!!!
Your car is extra clean NICE
Beautiful car, great job
Awesome sleeper 👍🏼
great build!.............must be hilarious on the street, dusting off pretty much whatever comes along.
I think I know the field/woods that this came from. That's a real awesome idea, and it looks like a blast.
Very nice build !!
Duratec engine were underrated 4 bangers .
Sorry I'm late to the show, incredible job!!! Always loved a 62 2 dr sedan. Found one for my mom many yrs ago. Paid $800.00 for it , she was the 2nd owner and had 42k on the clock. Top speed 85 mph, before I let up on the gas, shaking so bad it was hard to steer (now I know how Chuck Yeager felt when broke he the sound barrier)! Hope things are going better now, will watch again to study the details!
Great video love the car very clean and simple
Thanks!👊
Love this car! It's amazing.
Man that’s sweet. Awesome car.
Its a piece of art and ingeniery lovely congratulations 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷👍👍👍
2,420 pounds straight out of the factory WITH the cast iron inline 6. Replace with higher tech aluminum 4 banger and your even less weight. Love it.
That has gotta be a lot of fun on the street.
Reminds me of being a kid. Those original 6cyl falcoons were pretty zippy. Best of luck!
Nice paint job
Very cool! Nice work .
Thanks!👊
Awesome build.
Very cool.
Incredible machine 😎👍🏆🏁
Beautiful
I love that falcon was my first car
Don't live but 10 miles from the Dragway , great place, nice people.
THIS SMALL PLATFORM ALSO CAME WITH A 289 CID AND IT MOVED !!!!
Actually, it came with a 260 cid mated to a Borg-Warner T-10 4 speed (factory). Model was called the Sprint (1963). It was a running gear test bed for the Mustang which was brand new model in '64. Thank you Mr Iacocca ! Jay Leno has this car and yes there's a YT video, the only difference is mine had a black interior. Ever seen a factory sleeper? This was one of them...
@phuck ewe they didn't have the tires to run 10s back then either. modern tires, with a paxton supercharger (available back then), i bet money 10s are possible.
@@gravitationaleddie5611your right. a inline 6 260cid .and some people AKA dealerships put in a 298 cid V8 .. I think thats what Buchholz was thinking about!..
A friend of mine put a stock 289 in a 4 speed 64 ranchero. The engine was stock except for intake manifold and carburetor and the exhaust headers. With a pair of slicks on it would pull the left front tire off the ground on launch. Such a lightweight little car. This is a great build btw. I love the choice of engine! It doesn’t take much to get the little car moving!
@@gravitationaleddie5611 ,
Yep I had a '63 Sprint. Factory dash mounted Tach...gotta love it!
Track n street legal is the mean ?
That lead to believe tough isn't always "like it's looks like" .
Good one .
Very Cool!
From bucket to beauty
Seriously cool
THAT'S the car MrRegular should have built. LOVE that Duratec swap! Think I'll put one in my Mustang some day.
That Duratec engines are some great swiss army knives. You can do anything with them!
Good job on the car
Saw the car today at Donut Derelict in Huntington Beach CA. Such a cool car
I dig it! 👍🏻
Wow, good job.
Wow! Super sleeeeeeper!!😮
What a cool car. My dad had one and the front wheel fell off on the New York State Thruway LOL.
Mine did but at 10 miles per hour and it was an easy fix, upper ball joint
Unlike a lot of claimed sleepers this one really is. Tires look pretty stock and at idle it just sounds like a 6 or 4 that needs a tune up. After a run people would want to know what is in it.
Super nice car!
This is SO COOL! Family fun on a budget. Love that. There a couple of things I'd suggest, however, only for safety's sake. Always take the dog dishes off to run at the strip. And swap out the steering wheel and column for a more modern collapsible/energy absorbing unit. The 1962 one becomes a spear if anything is hit hard in the front. The car appears to launch well, but there is some axle windup on the springs, and that can break them. Maybe some sort of twist-limiting device like the old traction bars would help. Be Well, Stay Safe, and Keep having FUN!
Came back and noticed one other thing... The harness attachment angle is way too steep. Shoulder straps are meant to hold a driver back, not down. Hooking them to the floor is incorrect, as they will cause spinal compression in the event of a rollover. Love this car.
My old man bought a brand new 1966 xp wagon with the 144ci engine. That car drove very nicely in 1978. Although not as quick as yours
Damn ten sec car on little tires wow
Been doing some research lately on Aussie Falcon sites. Is this turbo 4 directly related to the Aussie Barra 6???
Living in the Midwest rust belt I more then ENVY the rear wheel openings on this car
Sorry It's not related .. barra is only a six cylinder.
beautiful car
At first I'm thinking WTF is this... then you watch the video, and your eyebrows raise up LOL, then at that last pass... You are convinced hahaha. Me and the fun I could have with something like that on the street. LOL excellent build :-) love those sleepers
When I read the 2 liter turbo, I expected an old school 2.0 out of a pinto. What was I thinking nobody likes the old engines anymore. Neat swap though. Nice car also.
I think it would cool to boost an old engine like that but they just wouldn’t hold up. Finding a forged crank for a late 70s ford 4 cylinder would be impossible and so would the rest of what you would need.
@@kevintucker3354 esslinger engineering has all that stuff for those old Ford's.
Light car short wheel base. Perfect starting point.
It looks to be faster than the Falcon my Grandmother had ! I used to have a car seat with a steering wheel and a little horn on it ..
I once had a Maverick I wanted to pull the 302 V8 out of and install the SVO Turbo 4 banger in it's place.
