I play this too and there's this really random 2 drop 1/1 uncommon I found that's actually pretty insanely good. Yarok's Fenlurker. ETB forces an opponent to exile a card from their hand and has a way too expensive firebreathing ability. Threw him in to have a second 2 drop with a double devotion pip and he just kinda rocks.

Just to clarify, Fiery Impulse doesn't check until it resolves. Arena shows you the current info but if you remove the cards before resolution, it would deal only 2.

Mono black devotion is so fucking cool, thats the deck that made me want to get into 60 card formats (if they werent so expensive) i think im going to save up wildcards to build that deck once obliterator comes out

My fav Mono Black Devo card I used in TBD was Leyline of the Void. Start the game with graveyard hate and +2 devo! Worked wonders against Cauldron Familiars and Anax

Played a similar deck in Pioneer, except I also had 4 Phylactery Liches, beat Phoenix and Lotus 2/3 games, monored as well. Maybe with some new additions it could work out too. Reckoner Bankbuster and Phyrexian Fleshgorger seem deece.

@@codydalgleish5652 Well, I'm not wanting to go all in in legendary lands to get screwed over by them, but idk about taking out a Gix. Gix is going to be insanely powerful with the amount of lifegain I will have.
@@UndeadxPenguins I find if you have a lot devotion playing another Nykthos Ramos you a lot. And I get that, Gix is a lot of draw power, just a consideration.

Interesting to use Evolved Sleeper over Knight of the Ebon Legion. Is that a personal choice or the consensus now? I feel like the knight has gotta be good with Sheoldred and Invoke Despair?
I've tried both so far. Finding Knight is a removal magnet while Sleeper tends to be.. a sleeper. No one touches it until you really start to sink mana into it and over time you get the card draw over knight while still getting the deathtouch and it lasts longer than end of turn.
Knight is better for aggro although aggro could use both. Sleeper final ability is a better mana sink for slower strategy, the other abilities let it flex for both offense and defense.
i have been playing all kinds of card games sense i was a little kid and i think mono black decks in mtg are my favorite way to play card games. for fun with my own rules lol. for the memes

Maybe both. Thing with nykthos is that it enables stuff like Karen to hit too early.
I disagree; other things will fill the void for Nykthos to ramp into. Mono-G was no where near top tier in Explorer before Nykthos was added.

Am I the only one who thinks that shrine is making explorer a way less interesting playfield?
It incentivises monocolored goodstuff lists where every card must have at least 50% colored mana.
This makes for a very small pool of actually viable options for the deck, a very easy deckbuilding and a very repetetive play against experience. As the opponent you know how a Black,green,blue etc devotion lists looks like because there will never be a great variation inside this archetype.
If you like monocolored goodstuff good for you but for me its too cheap of a strategy to find it interesting
the only mono devotion deck that has reached top tier at least in paper is mono green, and it took years for it to get to the power level it is now. Earlier this year it was a middling 2nd tier deck at best. It's laughable to think there is no deck variation either. There are as many as 4-5 mono green players at my store on Fridays pioneer including myself, none of us have the same 75, or even the same 60. That's actually more variation than the Phoenix, Rakdos, or Greasefang decks we see. If easy deck building is bad for the game then we might as well ban mono red and every other low to the ground deck, as it is "too cheap of a strategy to find it interesting." lol
