  • Following the harassment and molestation of a South Korean vlogger in Mumbai, we asked women in Mumbai how safe they feel in the city. We also asked them if travelling in Mumbai is safe and if they would travel alone at night. #womensafety #Mumbai #India
No one knows Mumbai better than us. #madeinmumbai.

The question should be, Is Mumbai safe for tourist women? Those locality women boldly said they are safe. Yes thats true, but we should also think for the others too.

I'm a college student born in Mumbai. From my childhood i have heard about many cases and all but now in daily life i do experience some of the discomfort around in Buses , trains , even on the road. man's looking in strange way and many more are general cases that happens. It's like i don't feel safe her that's the truth. If anything happens and i tell my parents about recent cases in train or something they'll just tell me don't go alone or just stay home. But when i ask then is Mumbai safe then they say much better then another City but this is the shame for us that girls like me don't feel safe here. Me myself thinking to move somewhere safe for my studies as i don't feel safe and this thought kept me awake...

It's 20 years since the idea of toxic masculinity has been actively propagated to make women " toe the line" and be pushed back , so to speak . This 72 year old woman has been one to go about alone all her life ... suddenly , I'm being harassed in the city I live in , for wearing a " Western outfit " ! Then on the internet, very recently , a commenter informs me that I'm asking to be raped if I move about without a male escort !

Mumbai is literally a city of chaapris
If u dress well and neatly like wearing neutral colors with ironed and proper pairs of shoes adding untied hairs , chaapris on subways or streets would tag along with u specially in case of solo travelling.
Even if u are fully covered but dressed well, u would be stared, stalked or cat called.
Delhi does it worse but mumbai aint saint either.
I guess they arent used to see prople neatly, well groomed.

The culture of men standing every nook of roads , group of men sitting in idle shops specially in north india like a village is making hard for women to even walk in streets there.
Chaapris are adding it to and promoting toxic culture.
Making city walkable by having better infrastructure would help women feel little bit safe .
