Honestly felt kinda dirty being told there was 6 problems when there was actually 9. the two sparkplugs and three different vacuum leaks. poor guy had the hardest challenge. super impressed by his ability to almost get the job done despite never having worked on a vette before
100% I think they did that because they didnt want a victory. Then they only gave him that info when there wasnt enough time to completely correct it..
they weren't crossing them off tho when he fix a part of it, shouldn't that be a clue?
@@valkydon1338 not to him, they merely handed him the correct tool if he asked for the problem. we saw it crossed off, the mechanic didnt. so when he got that tool and fixed the 1/3 same issues, he thought he might have been done. im still in that he was done dirty by donut

This was really dirty on Donut's part. They got a video and sponsorship by misleading the guy on how many problems the car actually had. 3 vacuum leaks and 2 spark plug wires. The guy got nothing.
In sams defense this had to be the hardest car of all so far, BRING SAM BACK FOR A REDEMTION VIDEO. Good job sam!
Plus they purposely only gave him one spark plug just so he would assume it's fixed so they can Keep the car. He asked for spark plugs, any other car they would've gave him what they needed, but they wanted this car so they decided to be dickheads and fuck him over

As someone who works on cars it is pretty important to always know how to get the keys out of huge block of ice. Probably one of the most common repairs or pieces of maintenance a mechanic will do in their lifetime.
that is the easiest sabotage to fix. Not only do they present it to you but tell you want to do. His mistake was hammering it instead of pushing the block of ice onto the ground. The thing was pretty high up.

He had one of the most complicated cars on this series, the smallest amount of time and the most problems to fix.

@@connoisseuroftigolbitts well no, there needs to be some context here. on a vehicle that has any issue that has an obd2 port for the most part, you scan that shit first to see if there's anything obvious, try to start it afterwards, and THEN start digging into it.

Sam tackled this car like it had normal problems instead of sabotage. He almost went right down the list of stuff if it was a normal car instead of tampered with.
thats true but when you're diagnosing things there's kind of a system you have to go through mentally weather you know its sabotaged or not. honestly donut made this episode pretty difficult with the red herrings / multiple cases of the same problem.
@@yungbroc As it should be, if you're giving away a free car. Their goal is to make money from it with video content, they would lose money if it were only one video *BUT* if someone did get it in the first try, they would definitely deserve it, since they know how to fully work on it.
But he didn't use any form of logic when it came to the steps when finding out what the problem was. If you find out that one spark plug wire was cut, why would you not check them all? I see a vacuum hose is cut or coming off, why wouldn't you check the rest?

So you want a participation trophy? That's the problem with you kids, you think everyone should win. He had plenty of time, he just kept repeating the same stuff over and over. He kept going to back to the fuse and installing parts incorrectly.

Definitly doable just spent too much time overthinking, checking fuses took way to long. Crank and cam sensors would throw codes so wasted time on that too. Also after finding one plug wire fucked he should have went through them all. Obviously much harder to think clearly when you have that much pressure on you. Not saying I could have done it but definitely not impossible
Doing multiple spark plug wires and multiple vacuum leaks was pretty brutal. In a pressured time situation, you’re way more likely to want to keep progressing and not having to double back to address the same problems that he already thought he had covered. He’s forced to second guess everything. That kills momentum and makes spiraling out so much worse. The dude was pretty on top of it, but the bamboozles were rough.
Man this guy deserves this car. Not even a participation trophy. Man almost fixed a Vette by himself in 80 minutes.
A self sabotaged vette. He over complicated things.
Stopping the clock for him to lift the car was a real sportsmanship thing to do.

Not sportsmanship, company lawyers and insurance rules. Trust me. Although it was a nice gesture it was in the rules of whoever underwrites their liability policy 💯

I don’t know enough about cars. Why did replacing the battery cause that error to go off? Is it super common because it looks like it threw off the people who did the sabotage. I’m blaming Jerimiah
@@VGbeck22 they said he was messing with that connector before hand and he must of unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in. also electronics sometimes just dont like their power source being completely yanked out. its a bit uncommon but it happens sometimes
@VGbeck22 he pulled the battery out of the car which basically factory resets the computer so when he turned the car over with the new battery the computer didn't know how much the throttle plate was open, that wasn't a sabotage that's just what some cars do but I think they should've clued him in more about that one cuz that wasn't even part of the plan

This was the most over the top sabotage you guys have done and Sam clearly has a lot of knowledge fixing cars. He should have had 2 hours on the timer, not just 90 minutes.

Sam had 9 problems to fix in 90 minutes while having to say how many of which part he wants (not even talking about the key in the ice) while Andy from the first episode had 2 hours to fix 5 problems AND he was a great mechanic... That doesn't seem too fair no?

90 minutes for this was kind of wack. 1 plug wire would have been a sufficient sabotage given the time limit. Sam legit killed it for the time limit. Love the content on Donut but this seemed a bit unfair tbh.

Damn 90 minutes(plus the 20 extra for installing the borla exhaust) for 2 spark plug wires, battery, a fuse, 2-3 injectors, a block of ice with a key in it, AND 3 SEPARATE VACCUME LEAKS. It would have taken me more than half a day to fix all that assuming I could find them all quickly. Good job to Sam for getting to the last fix. He deserved the vette 100%
I feel so bad for sam, he would've had it if he had like 10 more minutes to find that missing airhose. Such a simple and i bet he would've realized the last sabotage was asperation related after trying to start it after the 2nd to last sabotage. This was truly impressive how he sussed everything out i aspire to be capable of fixing cars like him
With how close he was, you should have given him a shot at some bonus time at the end with Donut trivia like you talked about at the beginning of the video.

For sure, an extra 30 seconds to 1 minute for every right answer and only 5 questions. He probably would've gotten it. But yes, the ice was lame. They should have put the key inside the car somewhere instead.

Nah he got helped and he didnt check everything. He made the decision to assume they didnt do more things to one system. The vacuum leaks one he would have never found. He found both on accident. Id say the only thing they could do to be fair is say "hey you found all the issues with that move on" but they really dont have to
i agree man. if you say theres 6 issues. there should b six issues. not 6 types of issues and each type of issues could have sub catagories of issues. its like ordering 6 sandwiches and when u get to deli to pick em up saying yo wheres the frys that go with each sandwich. or even vice versa n they giv u a side order of frys wit each sandwich and u get there n dont wna pay for tht shit, i only needed 6 sandwiches. i rly think this was a cheap shot on donuts behalf. cuz in the last mminute they kinda started to hint at the remaining issues. so even if they told him flat out the remaining issues i dont think he had the time reguardless. ive seen them hint and tell the participant basically whats still left but they did it at like 20mmin left. so once they get issue they can actually fix it. james seemed genuinly sad that he was the one who had to give the outro speach n pull the rug from under sam. id b a cool vid to grive the zo6 to sams in mmiddle of nighht n surprise him at like midnight wit a bonut round. giv him 15 min to do a lube oil filter job n rotate tires or sum shit. then he gets it. cuz ive seen all these episodes of giving away the car to echanic who fixed em. n tis was only one tht seemed unfair. n what do u kno. this is only one where contestand didnt win car

They definitely were more devious. The previous episode sabotages felt like problems that a car would normally have when you buy someone else's project. These didn't. These felt like someone actually planned on making your life difficult by actively doing fucked up shit before selling it to you.

@@Megidramon You´d be surprised with the fucked up shit that the last owner of my car did, like swaping the fuel hoses from the tank, unplugged temperature sensor, accelerator cable set to not open the second stage of the carburator and some other shit like radio wiring with short that almost set the car on fire.

dang you guys really stepped up the sabotage efforts. I probably wouldn't have guessed to check for more vacuum leaks or a second spark plug after getting the first half.
Vacuum leaks is tough but the sparks were all his fault for not checking them all.
I could see the second spark plug being fair, but multiple vacuum leaks from different things feels like separate sabotages

@@Linkopherehe did. He did check them all. He says as much in his own recap video on his channel. The issue was that if you pulled on the plugs with any real force you run the risk of destroying a perfectly fine plug.
Sam should have got time back for the o-rings on the injectors. Not a planned sabotage, and that should have been free time.
He said he never worked with a Corvette before and still managed to find and fix most of the problems in under 2 hours i say he is above average in terms of cars and engine knowledge

I've been telling myself I need to go back to mechanic school ever since I first started watching Donut but trying to take that first step is scary
Just finished mechanics school called Wyotech. Can confirm it’s worth it. Plus 87% of the time, you’ll be walking out of there with a job after you graduate

I went to a mechanics school and it helped out tremendously when I saw two people looking at a car trying to install a battery. At first, I was like if they don't want any help, I'll move on my marry way. They said yes. So they told me that he needed to replace his battery. I said I'd take a look. I went to check in the battery and notice the positive side (hot side) of the battery was loosely connected. I said, "Bro, I'm gonna save you some money today." I tighten it with a spanner wrench from the guy that was helping him. Once that positive side was tightened, it started right up. And I accepted no cash at all.
Take away: Go to mechanics school to help people. People really need it. Sure it's nice to get paid for it. But even if it's not your field later on it will help overall.

Exactly how i felt. They raised the stakes and the guy stepped up with little to no prior knowledge of these cars and excelled. He deserved the damn car.
This def left me salty. Guys under ridiculous pressure and should’ve had 10 minutes back if he wasn’t ice fishing. That was just straight up uncool.

agreed. The second spark plug wire was a bit dirty, but once he replaced one, he should have checked the rest. The battery was probably a mistake by Donut as well, but hopefully he didn't spend too much time chasing something unintended. All that said, they were very kind to him, as they've been to the rest.
It’s a tough challenge but he tried his best. Plus it’s a free best year C5 Corvette Z06! It has to be hard to win.

That was brutal @Donut. I get not everyone can win but clearer instructions/directions would have been perfered. They never said they would (or even could) have repeat issues. And vacuum leaks, especially multiple, is tough to chase down on a engine when under a time crunch, even for seasoned mechanics. @Sam, keep ypur head up bro. 9 issues (not 6) in 90min and you got 8. Thats pretty awesome, and probably better then inwould have done.

These were by far the toughest sabotages you've done and that is understandable, it is a freaking Corvette! But Sam did a great job solving 95% of them. Huge respect for him.
This hurt to watch. This has always been my favorite segment you've done. It felt like in the past you always made sure the contestant won. You gave a guy random surprise trivia questions once just to make sure he could do it. I don't care about the contest feeling real, I just want to watch a person win given solid effort. I honestly was waiting for the "Surprise, you still get the car" moment.

I feel like Donut needs to bring Sam back to make this right. He deserved that car with the multiple sabotages in multiple categories. There was only one trivia game at half time I thought they said multiple opportunities
I thought the same thing. I know for a fact I heard them say he could gain time back for some donut trivia knowledge. They only gave him extra time after putting on an exhaust

I'm typically all about the rules of a game, but Sam won this dang car. That was an insane amount of work in very little time. Bring him back for a redemption episode.

I know an exception has never been made to the rules, but you've guys have been more curtious in terms of hints for other competitors in the past, he def needs a redemption episode, man was down to one last vacuum leak before the time ran out. Give this man another chance to win the Z06, life is short!
For real, in previous episodes they had other people from the crew helping out and this time they barely even gave clues.

I would of lost, specifically because of the vacuum leaks . I would of never thought the intake would be loose
No joke. I got a free Comanche that wasn't running. It took me about six hours to figure out the entire intake manifold was loose. Runs great now.

Especially because they mislead him with how many fixes he had to make. They told him 6. There were actually 9.

As someone who’s day to day life is this particular model, I can say with no hesitation that Sam went in there with a checklist, a packed brain of knowledge and experience and did leaps and bounds better than I would have done in twice the time. This guy killed it, and did a phenomenal job at it. As always Donut is keeping it fresh and interesting , throwing some extra sabotage in there that we’d never expect. That’s the game, those are the rules.
None the less Sam did a heck of a job, I also vote he make a comeback for a future chance to win something!!! 🤘🏽

But honestly... It sucks we didn't see some sort of constellation prize, even if it was just a channel plug.

You guys should offer an "All most Made It" prize so folks don't feel like total devastation...he got so far, but in the end, it didn't even matter....lol, good try kid, as a mechanic I'm telling you, don't feel bad it took that challenge with both hands on the horns. You should feel proud you got a chance to do something like this!
This is the first episode that made me sad. Sorry Sam, I feel I would have made the same mistakes, I was actually yelling at my PC lol. If I ever get a chance on 'If They Can Fix IT" I hope I have better luck.

Agreed but there should be a secondary prize. Like a $2000 beater or the $20000 Corvette. Plus them saying there’s six things to fix the car then having multiples of certain things, spark plugs I get because that’s eight of ONE object, but having multiple vacuum leaks is MULTIPLE objects. That’s more than six. A vacuum leak is a symptom of a fix needed so they should’ve either just done one vacuum leak or said there were more than six fixes needed. Of course they can’t just win every time so not worried bout that but you’d rather see someone lose because they don’t know how to fix it, not because they did something slick or anything that could be considered dirty.
@@OnEst_Opinionyeah this one was the hardest one so far I think. And it’s a v8 so there’s tons more to check. And it being a corvette is just allot of stuff to check in the 100 minutes he got. I do agree he should get $500-$1000 per each problem he fixed. So that if he only did 4/6 he would get $2000-$4000 and then the grand prize if you do it all you get the whole car.

@@dalynferguson2582 I don't agree. These sabotages were quite basic. Nothing particular specific to a Corvette. For example, when you find a plug with a broken wire, you don't stop checking the other plugs. He let the pressure get the better of him and thought that since he found the sabotage, he could move on. Forgetting his basic mechanic skills.
Mixed feelings on the end result but I think Sam should've got the car and a pair of New Balance shoes. He got all the issues but feels a little rough having 3 vac issues, 2 spark etc. He also had less time and ice blocked keys 😂 Have Sam back for redemption!
The amount of sabotage they did for only 1.5 hours is just unfair. I bet they didnt even wanna give it away

What a nice guy. He deserved the car even though the last vacuum line sabotage wasn't found by him. You could've given him the stupid iceblock time back, or, as you mentioned before, give him some extra minutes by asking Donut trivia. I felt it was a little unfair to him all in all...
There was also the unexpected curveball when changing the battery caused that error.

The smartest things he did was fixing the OBD2 port fuse first try (after reading a manual, mind you) and putting his fingers on the injectors to realize they weren't firing. That was actually pretty smart. Everything, and I mean everything else was found out by accident or revealed to him, only excluding the battery.
Who tf sees those intake manifold bolts hanging out 2 inches from the manifold and doesn't think they're loose
