  • The Porsche 911, the iconic rear-engine sports car loved the world over, brings precision and fine German engineering to a racing machine. This 992 Carrera is the culmination of 60 years of revisions and the entry point to the vast range of 911 models.
    In this episode of Start It Up, we'll explore what it's like to drive and own the 2023 911 Carrera Cabriolet which is the convertible version of the classic style Carrera. Just as capable without a roof, going topless is as fun as ever in this sports car. Whether that's on a road trip or a day at the track, it is always a pleasure to get behind the wheel of the 911 and an excellent buy!
    Feel free to ask me any questions you have and let me know if you're thinking of putting in an order. Hope you enjoy!

    Awesome rundown! My ‘23 911 Carrera S Cab (in that green!) will be delivered on 12/21. Fun fact that you might enjoy that I learned when I was at the dealership making my selections….
    The option for exterior door sill lighting projects the logo onto the ground, right? I asked why it was just the word “Porsche” and not the coat of arms…. Well, the design team across the pond had answered that exact question in a corporate meeting/q&a.
    The answer was an IMMEDIATE “no one steps on the family crest.”
    The design guys thought this through to the *tiniest* detail!

      Congratulations! That’s going to be incredibly fun, I love this shade of green/silver.
      Thanks for sharing that! That’s kind of info I love to learn about in a company, design team’s and engineers mankind conscious decisions on why they do what they do for every little aspect. That’s one of the best parts of Porsche for sure!

    Good video! I just got my 2022 911 Carrera Cabriolet last week and completely agree with your driving impressions. Its an amazing car and so much fun! You did mention the frustration of dealing with Homelink function being buried in the PCM menus. Fortunately, Porsche has one User Defined Button on the steering wheel that can be selected for the Homelink garage door opener which can solve that issue. It makes life a lot easier. Hope this is helpful to you.

      Thanks for the comment! I hope you’re loving it! Such a blast of a car, much less stressful than driving the GT3 RS. I’ve since learned about the user button on the wheel from some other comments, definitely a help for opening gates!

    In Germany we call it “the driving machine”. Unfortunately my English is not good enough to describe what German sports car enthusiasts want to express with this term. But I think you can probably guess...

    Hopefully with the 992.2 hybrid, Porsche might be able to make and deliver more 911s to the United States. 911 deliveries have been stuck at ~10,000/year since 2005.The 911 is such a nice well rounded sports car, very easy to live with everyday, although it is a bit noisy. The Bose sound system is not too bad, it is much better than the Bose system in the 718

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Who knows! The demand is there, the price just keeps it out of most people’s hands to just go pick one up. A full electric mode when be nice on the hybrid for short trips though, but also not fully in line with the sport necessity. Highly recommend getting the Bose, don’t spec on out without it!

    Talk more about the actual convertible roof, material, how many layers, is it insulated - quietness w roof up,

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Fair point! The roof is actually quite impressive, it's a soft top stretched over 4 magnesium sections that are hydraulically controlled. It's pretty durable stuff but attracts cat fur. As far as road noise, the Porsche is not a grand tourer and not focused on being super quiet inside, but it's not far off relative to the coup especially with the engine being in the rear. This car has not been driven out in the winter cold yet so no testament to the insulation but the new heater and cooling system I'm sure will overcome any loss in thermal energy. When the roof is down the car has a rollover protection system that sits right behind the back seats. If the car detects a roll over there is a charge that will blast these metal cassette rods up to protect the inside and if the roof is up there are carbide tips on them that will smash through the rear window and protect the same way!

    Can anyone weigh in here as to what’s a better car. The cabriolet 911 gts or the new sl63 cabriolet. Difference engine sizes but similar performance. I’m curious to know other people’s thoughts.

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 5 měsíci +3

      We’ll see if anyone else has an opinion but that’s a tough one! Both are incredible and pricy. The 911 GTS is a more classic styled sport car, smaller, agile, while the SL63 AMG is far more of a beast with its V8 bi-turbo. To me it’s more of a Viper vs Corvette, they both have much different personalities and presence in their styles with the Mercedes being far more flashy. The 911 would most likely hold the value better, Merc’s just don’t have the demand or cult following of the Porsche while they change up models and levels every couple years while Porsche sticks to their tried and true process. The GTS has the 473 HP twin turbo flat six while the SL63 is a 577 HP bi-turbo V8 and a fast 0-60. For day to day driving and a snarly toy I’d go with the Mercedes, probably more character and less refinement as it doesn’t fit any category too well, but the 911 GTS would probably be the better buy long-term financially, just not as fun or playful. Better depends on what your definition is, but I’d look for a couple year old Merc that’s already dropped in’s value and leveling out in price. I did a video on the Merc AMG GT C if you want to check that out!

    11:06 95671 Porsches in China! Wow! More than Europe and USA. Incredible number
    Also, do you think this is a car that one would easily want to change or stay with for a long time?

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 5 měsíci

      That was my first impression for the number too! For longevity, I think it depends on what you’re going for. It you’re wanting just a sports car and will daily it to work with fun weekend trips then this would be fine to have and easy to rack up 40-60k miles on before selling. As far as collecting, it’s a nice car but nothing special that would warrant holding onto, it would not be a difficult decision to let go of one like this for the next hot car that came along. (Assuming you’re in the market for this price range) It’s a great car, it’s a Porsche, but nothing inherently special making this particular model a life-long keeper relative to other competitors.

    I like reviewing the lower spec 911 that’s are slightly more affordable. It makes it interesting that I could possibly afford one if I sell my car, stop contributing to my 401k and get evicted. I could afford a pre owned one

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 6 měsíci

      Haha legit though, as people build more wealth the high end car prices grow with it. Even the lowest end is up there!

  • @Towert7
    @Towert7 Před 5 měsíci +4

    I'm going to be honest, I'm not in love with this like I thought I would be. I don't like the braun shifter, I don't like the removal of physical buttons (no back button?), The buttons themselves seem cheap, the concept of the rear seats seem like a joke, not easily worked on.... for $120,000, I expected a little more.

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 4 měsíci +1

      That’s a good take, someone asked if this is the kind of car you’d keep for a long time and I said honestly, it’s just a premium sports car but not any kind of jewel to keep for life. Just more of the daily kind of car you’d use if this is in your price range, still lots of fun! Shifter I’m neutral on, I’ve been in lots of different cars but I do prefer it over a knob or push button selection. Rear seats are more so if you have kids they could ride but it really holds your bags. Shows why the demand of classic Porsche’s can cost more than new ones, lots of desire for the classic, work-able, analog for the true enthusiasts feel.

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 4 měsíci

      Haha If you’re buying a Porsche, you typically are okay with others doing the service. Nowadays, most super car companies also prefer nobody even touches the cars or go near the engines, hence they lock them out of sight. If you check out the owners manual on a McLaren or other similar cars they don’t want you to do anything so just the changing of times.

    Do woman prefer Porsche or g wagon

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 4 měsíci

      I don’t think you could assume either preference, saying 4 billion women in the world would pick one over the other would be a stretch. By the numbers though more women would drive a Porsche simply because there are far more made and for sale in a year than the G-wagon which is about 40k units a year, and Porsche is a full brand of cars and SUV’s.

      Hahah never had a comment on my shoes before, but actually I’m strangely fortunate to not have body odor, so they still smell like the original leather. Threw some Superfeet insoles in for support, and I don’t go anywhere without my Sperry’s. Once I wear a pair out, they become my outside shoe then get a new pair to break in.

    Porsche is boring as….
    Need a new designer and new leader to put the 911 to bed, at long last.
    Then bring their designs into the 21sr century.

    • @PhilipBlank
      @PhilipBlank  Před 6 měsíci

      That’s a take, I’d say Porsche is pretty happy with what they’re doing and the demand for the 911 is only increase. They are comfortable in their niche and really perfecting it, but I do like when they branch out and try something newish like their special edition cars, even the 718 has come a long way!
