The scariest part of this to me is that one person, who is obviously not fiscally qualified, is driving such monumental and possibly detrimental economic policy.
What does it take to be fiscally qualified? Yellen comes from a school of economists who are quite conservative on monetary policy and the fed. She kept interest rates at zero for a long time.
Republicans built this economy years one law at a time. We are living in Reagan's dream. I can't think of a single feature of our macroeconomy today, where Republicans did not engineer it in some way.
These GOP Senators had no issues sending out stimulus checks, handing out tax payer money to corporations, and doubling the deficit when Trump was in office. GOP strategy from Reagan onward, if you actually look, is to spend wildly and goose the economy when your guy is in office, then leave a mess for the next administration to clean up. Then when a Democrat is in office, suddenly transform into deficit hawks who choke spending, which ends up dampening and cooling the economy.
Suddenly the Senate has become very serious about spending responsibly, now that Trump is out. I don't buy it.

@@roberttroutman6780 I believe they changed that to allow them to plunder the money. Initially, SS was meant as an insurance to provide a percent of retirement based on what you earned. It was never meant to be lived on, though couples who were high earners do get a significant benefit.

My sister worked from 18 to 65. Only has social security $800 a month.
My friend just died suddenly at 61 yrs old and he had no significant health issues. He paid in for 40 years. Their plan is working perfectly. Now they can give his share of the money to Ukraine.
