- Chief Justice John Roberts is facing increased scrutiny for his refusal to meet with Democratic lawmakers regarding the court’s ethics crisis. Following a series of ethics scandals and controversial decisions, some wonder whether Roberts has lost control over his court. Roberts lacks leverage among his colleagues now that it’s a 6-3 Court, and due to the absence of a clear Democratic majority in the Senate that could have initiated impeachment proceedings or passed basic ethics protections, argues Melissa Murray, a law professor at New York University. “The fact that there isn't a clear majority in the Senate makes it a lot harder for this Congress to control the court, and for the court to control itself,” she says. Leaving the Chief Justice “out in the wilderness.”

It's comforting to know that these justices have lifetime tenure so that we can all rest assured that the corruption will continue at such a high standard for the foreseeable future.

Roberts has lost this court. He is a coward. Renquest would have never tollerated what Alito and Thomas have done to the trust of this court. The American people have Zero faith in the Supreme Court these days and this is sad. I have not always agreed with the courts decisions, but I have always admired the lengths they would go to to get to the bottom of the issues, and then try to at least be fair as to what is right for the American Public. Those days are gone. He is weak, and has failed the country. This court is now bought and paid for, and thanks to Roberts will hurt the very public he serves.
Roberts has not only lost control of the court but has lost his moral and professional compass. His impunity beyond reproach is reminiscent of a tyrant. He deserves to be ousted.

Our Supreme Court of Canada appointed judges must retire at age 75.
If the US were to implement a similar directive, Clarence Thomas would be gone this year, and Samuel Alito next year.

@@wadestanton Scott v. Sandford was actually a good thing. That decision by the SC led to the 13th and 14th amendments to the Constitution, which abolished slavery and declared all persons born in the United States to be citizens of the United States. That doesn't happen without Scott v. Sandford.

According to Article 3 of the Constitution, the Congress has significant discretion to determine THE SHAPE and STRUCTURE of the federal judiciary. I feel sorry for Justice Jackson - attaining a place on SCOTUS, only to watch while its integrity crumbles.

@@cynthiajohnson8925 Justice Jackson's writing great dissents --- they're public & worthwhile reading on the SCOTUS gov site, several good law universities have featured her reasoned arguments, & she is on record asking many good questions. As opposed to Thomas, who asked nothing on the record for like a decade ?? so Jackson's doing her job & doing it well under very difficult circumstances. I'm Canadian but I applaud her & hope the SCOTUS isn't a total clown court forever so Justice Jackson can get more done for the people. I believe she's the first SCOTUS with experience as a public defender, & her care for the public shows up in her questioning lines + argumentation/supplemental writing on decisions/dissents.

Which has always been the intention of the majority of the Supreme Court bench since "Citizens United". It's a strange situation when you have the Alabama Supreme Court deciding that an inchoate clump of frozen IVF gelatinous cells is a "child" worthy of protection under the law and the U.S. Supreme Court deciding that corporations are "judicial persons" whose political activities must be protected under the First Amendment. PAC- man united flowed. I am still waiting to see how that embryo will vote in Alabama.

Mr Alito is still ethically obligated to recuse from many cases (although he probably won't) because of his wife's actions, but that does not mean his wife committed any act requiring criminal investigation.

In light of their odious Citizens United decision, the Court obviously believes that allowing the Nation's greediest citizens to determine the qualitative nature of society is acceptable.
