- Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the 'Skye-Lifers' find the peace & quiet of their cottage shattered by the arrival of Springer Spaniel puppy, Nori!
We struggle to keep up as Hurricane Nori sweeps through the cottage and our studios in the stone outbuilding. Will we get any work done at all this week..? And will grumpy big brother Jack accept this small biting thing into his settled life in the glen?

Beardless Willie, 10 years younger! No longer Old Father Time.
We used a puppy play pen (full of toys and in the same room) when we needed a safe place for the puppy while we worked. Its more roomy and open than a crate. Every half an hour to an hour we took the puppy out for a play. It worked well and our pup never got the opportunity to chew wires etc while we weren’t looking.
That’s a good idea - we’ll look into this! 🙂

I love how Jack leans his head when you talk to him as he concentrates to hear the words he knows and work out what you’re saying….probably like I do when listening to someone speaking in French when I recognise one word in ten!

Our current springer is extremely smart. He taught himself to open doors, bark when the phone rings, rattle his dish with his paws when he wants food/water and carries the dish to you if you ignore him. They NEVER get tired. You have many adventures ahead with Nory. Good luck 😂

Just training my sixth field bred Springer (6 months now). Puppies are labor intensive but worth every minute!! Nori is so cute and looks like a clever boy!

Jack and Nori = Jackanory! Hah....showing my age now. Good work on the Landy Willie. I need to do that to a little rust spot on Viv, but I'm not sure what white paint to get, for the spray afterwards. Viv (van).....by the way, only needs a little welding and brake pipe replacement to get through her MOT! Work being completed Friday. So relieved! Nori is learning fast, him and Jack will be great pals in no time

I remember when my pup was at "the sharp needles instead of teeth" stage. I used to find teeth all around the floor when he was getting his adult teeth through! Willie, the beard looks great. Hi guys. I was relieved to see that getting rid of the beard ... meant keeping the beard! I'm another giving an uptick for the new-look Willie. As previously, I'm always happy to contribute totally unsolicited advice! I m sure others have already suggested this but a crate - even the one you used when collecting Nori - would give him some space where he could get properly interested in toys - and sleep. And it would give you all some Nori-free periods. He might even come to take to it as his safe space. Doesn't have to be forever, it is no real constraint but a workable short term compromise? Very clever wee thing.
crate, house line, and...puppies need to sleep around 20 hours daily. If they do not get that amount of sleep they become overtired little terrors with very sharp teeth. we mistakenly thought a tired puppy is a happy puppy...oh boy did we have alot to learn. Our first puppy was a gem, came out with his backpack and knew everything...then 2nd...oooh boy. if they werent so cute.... 🙂

Nori is the absolutely spitting of my late spaniel I acquired at 8 weeks old in December 2007. Skylar passed during covid19 yet she was an absolutely 💯 oh my gosh how shattered was I training her, yet worthwhile too. When I watch Nori.

Oh those baby shark teeth! Our 70 pound GSD pup just turned one last week and I can finally put my wedding rings on again! Learned that lesson the hard way. It's so worth all of it! Still can't put down any rugs as they become a toy to shake to pieces! Your puppers are both adorable and are such a joy to watch! Hugs from Florida! 💜
The best tip for a young puppy is to follow this routine: Sleep, Bathroom, Play, Train(with his meal food) - Repeat. You'd need a dark cozy spot for the puppy to settle for a nap (why most people settle for a crate with a playpen around it and a blanket on top of the crate), he needs a lot of sleep to grow (more sleep than he'll want to have) but training will tire him out more than just playing. Giving him tricks to learn and food to sniff out in toys/hidden around is going to help his brain shut off for nap time. We found about 1.5-2hr naps in the day were just about the max our little spaniel was wiling to take.
Hi guys omg that was so hilarious 😂 we laughed so much when Sarah told nori to sit and he proper sat on his bum and wobbled over.they are so funny when there pups clumsy and cute.so much better with beard willie takes years off😂.at least u managed to do the door and loved the dipper we love those birds,we watch them at the bridge of oich near fort Augustus.wonder when uncle Richard is coming round to give u both a well earned rest coz u both look knackered and Jack spaniels too.all be worth it in the end doing a fab job guys.❤xxx
Hi, from the black labs 🦍🦍🦍 I'm sure you've had this tip but we put Brodie in a crate with a blanket over and he sleeps for over an hour possibly 2, if we've tired him out for nearly an hour, gives us time to do what's needed 🙏🤷♂️😊😊take care, we'll keep sharing the love 😊

We had 2 german shepherds, when they played rough it looked and sounded like they were trying to kill each other but they NEVER hurt each other in the 7 years we had them. (Both rescues who arrived 3 months apart age 3yr and 5yr when we got them). They were the best of friends and when Floyd passed away, Ty was totally lost without him. You are doing everything right and the doggos are both adorable. New sub ❤

I just got a baby basset. I’m knackered 😂 he’s hard work like a baby. I’m 52 so shock to the system. I’ve rescued many animals but decided to treat myself to a puppy. Got 2 sons in their 30’s was a young mum. 5 grandchildren but a puppy is hard work but wouldn’t change him for the world ❤ norrie is adorable ❤

It’s just such a lovely, simple, interesting, honest and endearing watch - every single time. ❤ I tend to save up the episodes so I can watch a few in one go and really enjoy them. But OMG… a puppy addition!! Can it get any better??!! 😆 Totally applaud you both for the way you bring up and train your dogs. It’s just so lovely to see it being done right. 🥰 As has already been suggested, suggest a playpen or a crate to enforce safe rest time when you need to work. It will be a god send for you and also will teach Nori about rest times/off duty times. Enjoy those puppy snuggles! ❤️

You look cuter with the short beard. Nori is obviously extremely intelligent and he'll be a awesome adult dog. I'm not envious of you having to get through the puppy stages tho. LOL
Precious Furries, but it is liking having children. They keep us on our toes. Good job on the door. 👋 🇨🇦
Hi, just bn thru all this with ours not that long ago. Pups need LOTS of sleep so we got ours used to going in a very large crate in “ his spot” for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon then he wants to go to bed about 7pm ( he asks). Gives you chance to do jobs and him the undisturbed sleep he needs. A blanket over part of his crate will also help him relax too. Obviously leave some uncovered so he can breath! As he gets older reduce his sleep times gradually. Our 13 month old Border Terrier still asks to go for his sleep in the morning, gets grumpy/ naughty if he’s tired! We moved door stops, curtain tie backs coal skittles, candles etc etc etc at first ; he doesn’t bother with them now! We put a thin throw blanket in on top of his bed so he can cosy up and nest. Good luck!
