SNOWED IN To Our Cottage On The Isle Of Skye, Scottish Highlands Ep56

- Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers get snowed in, as snowstorms sweep across the island, covering the glen in deep snow.
What will Nori make of his first snowfall? Do we have enough supplies to get us through the extreme weather??
Or will we need Yolanda to come to the rescue and brave the un-gritted roads to restock our cottage kitchen?!
Thanks for watching & see you in the next video!

Hmmmm I believe someone may be missing in your signature!?!? 🐾😂 the little one passed the message on to my dogs so I said I’d let you know!! 🐾🐾😂😂
I'm so glad that Jack is there to teach Nori the importance of sticks!
And balls. And sausages. And creating general mayhem 😅
Cosy old cottage, on a beautiful Scottish isle, in the snow with two cute pups, a hot brew and home made bread!!! What more do you really need. You four are living my dream ❤❤
truth
So many drivers underestimate the dangers of driving in slushy conditions! They slow down if it is icy, but treat slush like bare road. This video is an excellent demonstration of how slush is like grease on roads. Well done Willie!! The snowy scenery was breathtaking for those of us who didn't have to drive in it.
Can you use snow chains/ or is it not the right environment?
@jeanhopman5659 Chains are mainly for heavy fresh snow or icy conditions.
Great photography. That section offilm with the wild pony, and the sheep under the trees just was stunning.
Oh my Nori is growing. Great to see Jack and his new playmate.
At least you're snowed in together, with your little family. Thank God for small blessings! I just love your channel. Sarah, you are a brilliant and talented artist and your work is amazing! Willie, you're a wonderful musician who makes lovely songs that are a pleasure to listen to! Jack Spaniels, youre a good boy and a very smart boy too! And youre a perfect big brother for Nori. Teach him everything you know and he will do all right. Nori, youre a lucky boy to live with your lovely family in such a beautiful place. Listen to your Mom and Dad and learn from your big brother and life will be wonderful. God bless all of you and thank you for your inspiring videos! Sending my love from Ohio to the Scottish Highlands!
Such a lovely message. I too, live in Ohio, and my ancestors also come from the Isle of Mull. What a small world.
Yes what a lovely message. Greetings from Northern Ireland and God Bless
I live in Michigan, so the amount of snow you have is minimal to us. We are used to it. Nova Scotia, in Canada, got 5 FEET of snow this week. That is crazy snow for anyone! Google to see the pictures. Nori's look of innocence over Sarah's pajamas is so cute. 😂
Ahaha yeah we really aren’t set up for real snow here in the UK!
I live in Nova Svotia and I was laughing at the little bit of snow that these guys got. We also tend to get a lot of icy, slushy conditions and we drive accordingly.
@@livingtheskyelifeno snow tires for the vehicles?
Nova Scotia here too. Still digging out a week later.
From New Brunswick, Canada on the Coast of the Atlantic, and yup that's just another day here - we literally can get snowed in with several feet of snow falling at once. Perhaps get some snow tire chains for your jeep to put on when needed.
I’m with you Sarah! I’m 54 and still get excited when it snows xxxx
Just thinking... I don't think I have ever watched one of your videos without smiling and laughing at various points. 🙂😀🙂
Thank you! 👍
You should be prescribed on the NHS!
Stay safe xx
Cullen Skink and single malt are two of the main reasons why I love Scotland - that soup is just comfort in a bowl! Bread looked damn fine too...
Love the bagpipes while the bread is rising... could you add the written proportions for the soup recipe?
Will try and post it in the video description 👍
I have also been watching since episode one....this has become my Sunday afternoon (Ontario Canada) pleasure. I know you will start at 1 pm and I eat lunch and watch Skye life. My ancestors came from Iona and Mull so it is always a pleasure for me. BTW....I made bread this morning. I feel the snow issues. Last Christmas 2022 we got a two day snow storm between Dec 23-25 and we got over five feet of snow over the two days, and I got stuck walking to the shed with snow over my waist. I understand the snow pain. Only thing to do is consider it God's way of giving you a few days off ....
Yikes five feet..?! We’d be terrible in that situation, 5 inches is enough to send the UK into a tailspin 🤣
I can appreciate your caution on the road Willie. I live a kilometre up a steep icy driveway that doesn’t get cleared often.
The valley is considered secondary, so it’s touchy until I reach the highway.
I love the baking and soup.
I’m not a fan of cream. I’d usually use yogurt instead.
The dogs are so entertaining.
Really, Sarah, you did quite well sewing your torn pajamas. You are such a perfectionist.
The scenes of the snow on trees and changing light were beautiful. The sheep and the pony foraging on their own added to the mood.
Before you know it will be spring.
or ideal milk/ Carnation
Ahaha you didn’t see the tartan PJs a few days later…safe to say they got MUCH worse 🤣
Beautiful landscape with the snow. The cottage is in a postcard landscape.
Stunning , hope you can capture some of the landscape with your paints . Great post.
Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian, but I love winter driving. It keeps your focus and so much fun driving in fresh snow. It’s been so warm this winter it seems like every one else got our snow. Naturally happy to share! Love your content!
Fellow Canadian. I don’t love winter driving but I don’t fear it.
Ive finally caught up with the weekly blogs from the start. What a journey!
What a Peaceful (except when Willie is on the drums and the dogs are barking) 😂 and Tranquil place to live.
Getting 4 seasons in one day. Sounds like here in Northern Ireland! Perfect location in every way and great to see the freedom Jack and Puppy have.
Thanks for sharing and Take Care
OMG....looking at jack spaniels at the of the video...he looks very tired...such a cute little man ❤❤❤
We also had a cold spot of weather, my well went down and I had no idea the pumps on average only last twenty years. Before they could fix it we had a deep freeze minus eleven degrees Celsius. Then my cisterns froze and the pipe feeding water to the house broke.
Not a happy scenario when you live on a bluff and you have outside animals
Thank heavens we are back to warmer days and and the well and pipe has been fixed.
I hope if you are on a well your pump was changed before you purchased the house. If it’s old I would recommend changing in the good weather.
Love to see Jack Spaniel and Nori playing together in the snow. Happy days🥰
Oh gosh - that’s sounds like a tricky situation! Glad it’s sorted now!
Good driving Willie. Scary times on ice. You live in a picture perfect area where every minute your in the highlands is a picture to capture. Beautiful. I love the shots of the highland pony walking about. What a painting that would be. Thanks for sharing your heaven with us. From the states here.
Can’t believe how hooked I’m on your postings. Look forward to Sundays.
Seeing the doggies playing in the snow, the sheep grazing, and the highland pony, all just precious. And the sky over Skye, amazing! What Willie experienced is what we get here in the middle Tennessee area every winter: a bit of snow over solid ice 1/2"-1" thick. People move here from up north and laugh at how we "can't drive in the snow" - until they experience it for themselves, lol.
And I'm sorry, but I did get a laugh from the new window in the PJs. I was expecting a wee rip, but you needed to put shutters on that! And when Willie asked Jack "Are ye daft?" and Jack looked at him like "No, I'm Jack!" 🤣
Oh, my mom loves your videos too. And her calendar!
how Nori and Jack seem to be good companions together and enjoy the snow ! Nori has already grown.
Enjoy walkies with your too cute dogs on your beutiful snowy island Domi from France
The snow ball game was hilarious, but jack knew exactly where it should be 😅😅
Anyone who doesn’t get excited by snow is no friend of mine! Love to you all x
That was some beautiful scenery of the snow covered mountains. Nori is growing so fast. Jack truly loves playing in the water and snow. He is so much fun to watch. Sarah is so lucky in having Willy cook and bake for her. Thanks for taking us along with you in living the Skye life. 😊❄️🏔️🌨️🍞🍲🇺🇲🧥🧦🐕🐶
I loved the bagpipes too as the bread was rising! A perfect Scottish sound to accompany the expanding dough, haha!
Willie you're a great cook! The bread and Cullen skink looks delish, and I'm sure they taste Delicious also.
I second that!
There’s something so powerful about that view from your front door, it’s such a calming effect. How I would love to live there, snow storms or rain storms, it’s quite beautiful, thank you for sharing 😊
It’s an epic view - we feel lucky for it every day!
That went way too quickly😢😢. Glad you are all happy and warm. ❤
I can't decide which has made me happier, the bread rising to the sound of the bagpipes, or just seeing so much snow. :-) Thankyou for the video as always, it's a joy.
I live in Australia and have only seen snow in real life twice in my long life. I hate cold weather. However I love seeing your beautiful Glenn and your cottage under snow and all your adventures on Skye. I miss your Mudlarking channel but this channel is also a delight. A life so different from mine in a temperate climate. Thank you so much.
Here, out in the wilds, each farmer takes care of a large bit of the roads nearest them. That way, working together, we can all get out and about safely.
What a week! Willie, you did a great job of showing the tension & tedium (& the exhilaration when you don't die) of driving in bad winter conditions.
Loved the shots of the pony on the shore and the sheep under the tree.
Dogs (like cats) roll around on the ground to put their scent back when they think it is gone. That's what Jack is doing.
Another fun video. Thanks for the ride Willie. Although it was stressful for you, I really enjoyed the scenery 🗻.
Timing of bagpipes!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERFECT
We watch every week. Amazing life.
Thanks for the sewing - you made me laugh out loud 🤣🤣
Ahaha I’m terrible at sewing (and knitting too…)! They lasted about three more days before they came apart again. I somehow wonder how I made it through my textiles GCSE at all…
Was thinking of you all, when it was heavy rain. Because you have a flood problem when it rains. But no you are lucky because you get snow. Well i am at my sister in law’s in Worcestershire. We woke up to, not being able to get off our drive for 24 hrs. The Avon is normally about 600 to 800 yds away, it is about 50 yds away from the road A44. Your two are like Haggis, love to play in the snow. Would have to leave the fish out. Allergy. Replaced by meat. Love the way Sarah is upbeat, nothing seems to faze her and you always explain things. Good video. Stay safe. ❤🫶
Since I found this channel which was when you were house hunting your channel is one of my good too when I'm having a bad day. Even watching the old ones again. Thank you
Aww thanks so much!!
I would have white knuckled that entire drive. So happy all went well. Cheers and thank you.
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
That’s are mail creed, my father was a mail handler.
It must be like Christmas for wee Nori playing in the snow 🐾🐶😍❄️⛄️ bless his wee paws🐾🐶🦴🦴take care all of you 🥰
The view with the pony and the bird is just beautiful! My goodness, what a lovely place to live! ❤
Jack is not daft he is just making doggy snow angels😂. Great to see Jack and Nori playing together. Willie you are so brave going to Portree in all that water ice and snow it must have taken you ages to go there and back home again. ❤
It was a much longer drive than normal! But reassuring to know we can do it, especially if an emergency happens 😊
@@livingtheskyelife yes you are so right 😊
Lovely to see how you’ve managed to get to the shop on “C”roads👌☺️and pups are doing a fantastic improvement too 🐾❤️ snow is my lovely friend such as rain (always brings joy) and the scenery is absolutely stunning and breathtaking ❤️loved it🙏🥰
Hi Sarah and Willie, I am so happy because my friend came to visit me, and brought me a gift. It's a set of your gorgeous cards, Sarah! I am so happy to have them. If you remember mailing a parcel to Middleton, Wisconsin, well, it was for me. Yay! I told my friend Nicky about your channel when she came to visit Scotland this summer. I really enjoyed your video, as always, and I am really glad that the trip to the grocery store went well. 🙂
You did a great job driving in the snow. We have conditions like that quite a bit here in Canada. Jack and Nori are so adorable. When I got my puppy in the mid 1990s ( he was a black lab) the breeder told me he will chew until he is 2 and shed until he is dead, This was true. If you have an shoes you value, keep them in the cupboard. 😁
Ahaha that’s probably the case, although Jack doesn’t tend to steal slippers and socks any more 🤞
The sunlight reflecting on the clouds, snow and water is so beautiful. Pup fun in the snow!
It was stunning on the sunny days!!
❤glad your cautious and safe🙏🙂
Love watching your puppy playing in the snow, and Jack of course.
Loved every part of this video, as always. Your bread looked delicious and I could smell it. So happy you all are safe and Nori is adjusting well to snow and wind. THank you so much for your contribution to a lovely week for me. 😍🤣☺💜💜 North Coast of America.
Apart from Willies drive,I’m so jealous of the snow!!
I really love snow to Sarah, but only in picture and on the news now that I am older. Nori and Jack are so cute playing out in the snow. As for driving in the snow I can but most people here can't so I just stay home. Luckly the stores are only a mile and half from home. Have a wonderful and blessed week.
I found myself tensing up during the drive out of your glen; glad you (and Yolanda) made it safely home. Whew-time for a drink! 😂
Beautiful peaceful snowy scenes, especially loved seeing the Highland pony. Thank you guys ❤
❤Luv ya bunches @Willie Scott,@Sarah @Jack Spaniels,and at @Nori❤
Nori is growing so fast! Keep your supplies up…if you’re stranded for days everyone especially the pups need to eat. Question….do you guys have snow tires like we do here in Quebec Canada?
Yup - we learnt a lesson here. Lots of bread flour, long life milk and canned goods for our cupboards. Plenty of dog food though!
I was almost as nervous as Willie watching him drive along that road. I kept thinking what will he do if he meets something coming in the opposite direction? Brilliant driving though - and brilliant filming of the breathtaking scenery. Your most atmospheric video yet. Thank you!!
BF Goodrich all terrains required!!!
I love Cullen Skink! Will have to find some smoked fish and make some.
Hi both, I love the picture of the pony YOU did ,AND I think YOU ARE just amazing. Take care and all the best. 😄😄👍👍🐶🐶
Thankyou for this episode which was wonderful. It was awesome seeing the snow and how vivid it made the hills and surrounding areas. We live in Ontario now so thankyou again for taking us back to share in this beautiful landscape with you. Big hugs for the dogs xxx The beautiful views would look lovely in prints. wink wink Sarah lol
I was so nervous watching Willie drive. You two are amazing!
That soup looks nice and I would think it tastes lovely.
Nori is getting big quickly 😮. Himself and Jack are good pals which is good. We had a lot of snow even down in broadford we had quite a lot. I am not so keen on the snow anymore can’t go anywhere 🤔. Well done with your bread and soup Willie 👌take ncare and stay safe and enjoy the snow ❤👌
Happy Sunday everyone! Just home from work and off to catch up😊
Yuk to the soup, my late Scottish husband really liked it, I would cook it but never eat it. Try a no knead artisan bread, which you prove in the fridge it's really good. Thanks for sharing enjoyable video 😊
Ahah it’s it for everyone! But nice that you cooked it for him anyway 😊
Gosh Willie, just watching you driving in the snow made me anxious and I'm toasty warm at home. Glad you took it sensibly 😊
Sarah, the stitchy pieces came today while I was watching this. They are wonderful. Thank you for rehoming them to me.❤
Ah glad they got there safely! I only realised when I took them out of the frames that they represent the four seasons 😊
In BC, Canada and after all our snow had melted, we got another 3" this morning. Bah humbug!
You did a good with the driving, Willie.
That was some white knuckled driving. Good job! Rolling in the snow must just feel good eh? Lol
Nori has grown a lot in one week. He’s adorable. Stay safe in snowy driving.
Beautiful snow covered vistas and wow on loch ice bergs. You all take it easy and warm.
What some lovely scenery with the snow like you said you have to be careful which ever vehicle your driving. Loved Jack and Nori playing in the snow take care x
We get snowed in for upto a week and it is very enjoyable. Their is more work and all jobs take longer to do, whether it is feeding the animals or getting the wood in for our fire.
Love, love, love the bagpipes and the bread. And I love snow too, Sarah, from another Sarah. ❤
I grew up in the mountains of western Pa. And sometimes we had to dig a tunnel from the front door to the cars. The snow would be over 5 feet or more along the drive. We would all be out shoveling. We had to learn to drive in all road conditions to get anywhere or you are snowed in. Lots of canning and storing late summer fruits and veggies in the cellar.
when I lived in Glasgow, loved when it snowed. Always reminded me a bit of home. I recall my friends and I driving down from Aberdeen in a particular bad snowstorm to Glasgow. They had closed the cattle gates after we had left. Everyone on edge and talking nervously. I had to tell them to relax and not distract the driver, keep an eye on the side of the road. They were worried about the drivers behind us. Oh, well. I just kept watching for deer, proximity to the car in front, and alerting the driver of any problems. It wasn’t that bad. I was used to heights of mountains like Ben Nevis from home and large deer, even elk bursting out on us.
Be safe.
The snow is beautiful, but requires lots of care!
Willie and Sarah, I have been following you since you moved to Skye and just felt I had to let you know how much I enjoy your videos! I just love your Jack Spaniels and the little one! I think Jack is a highly intelligent dog indeed and as cute as a button! The two of you as well, of course...lol
Aww thank you so much Anne!
Yayyyyyyyy Sky Life ❤
Oh no!! You did get the storm from us in eastern Canada! Luckily you didn’t get the high winds and 100+cm over 4 days that hit here! Enjoy the snow and hopefully it’ll be short lived.
We got the high winds the week after - the snow disappeared and 100mph gusts followed 😅
Yup you got walloped too! 🤦🏻♀️ Glad it’s past now. We’ve had much milder weather and the snow is slowly going…. I doubt we’ve seen the end of it…. Maybe about a month or so to so! Take care xx
Boy with as bedraggled and dirty as that horse looked, you can certainly see where the legend of Kelpies comes from!
Good afternoon 👋❤️🇨🇦
You GUYS are intrepid, and brave and courageous! VERY WELL DONE
Maybe I'm slow to realise, but Jack and Nori......Jackanory? I'm showing my age 😂 The channel gets better and better ❤️
Nothing is coming out. Great video and the best time of the week. Loved the snow and glad you took it slowly on the way to the shops.
While Willie was driving out to go shopping, I was looking at the mountains and the amazing views. So beautiful! Nori is growing so fast. What a cutie. Stay safe and warm you two! Blessings from Kentucky.
A brilliant episode of more fun with the dogs....our dog cries to get out playing in the snow...well done Willie for making it to Portree to get supplies...Sarah, I'm like you I love snow ...how beautiful does your location look covered in snow. Many thanks and best wishes.
What a treat to see the beauty of the island covered in snow. I have no experience driving in snow, but I was nervous for Willie. Glad you made it safely. But we didn’t get to see Sarah call you a bad boy for buying too many snacks! I was waiting for that. It was fun watching the boys play in the snow.
Nori is learning fast however not so good about chewing clothes! Glad you got the food shop safely done Willie. Well done Yolanda- perfect vehicle for the job x
I have only been in the snow once in my life, it looks so beautiful there on Skye. Watching Willie make Cullen Skink has made me hungry, looks yummy and I guess if you made lots of it you could always add a bit of flour to thicken it up and make pies, then freeze them for later too. Jack and Nori are such good pups and Sarah makes excellent snow balls lol.
Looks like you could do with adding some dodo mat insulation to the inside roof of YoLanda to reduce or stop the formation of condensation.
Well driven Willie, keeping steady and looking well ahead is the key. Tyres make a huge difference too, get a good set of "mud and snow" or "winter" marked tyres with a compound that stays supple at lower temperatures.
I love the use of pipes whilst the dough was rising
Thanks for sharing some cooking with us Willie, always enjoy seeing some Scottish meals prepared. Nori and the pyjama pants!! Saucy dog. Glad you had a safe trip for groceries Willie, I was worried for ya😬
Pups growing fast!
Thanks, great video, Cool driving in such harsh conditions, going to try the soup tomorrow, yummy!
