The movie was what Thor 4 could’ve been (ie hitting those emotional points and still having actual comedy) if they hadn’t reverted Thor back to his first movie self. They also wayyyy dumbed him down and took away all of his growth. This movie was amazing and it really shows that when they’re focusing on telling a good story that has humor it can work if you don’t take it too far
I loved this movie and Im going to see it again on Friday - and a third time as soon as I can. I love the music, I just wish it fit the first two a bit more, but I guess that makes sense since this movie is more about Rocket than Quill. Nothing could beat the first two, but it is definitely an amazing ending. So glad James Gunn got his movie back.
Those scenes you struggled to describe without tearing up had me crying all over again. Saw the movie yesterday and it has not left me all day. Rocket is my favorite Guardian and one of my favorite MCU characters, so I was really glad we got his backstory but OOF it wrecked me. I want to go back and watch volume 1 now to revisit the "we are Groot" scene, I think after seeing v3 that adds a whole other layer to Rocket's trauma upon losing Groot...
Rocket accepting he was a raccoon as he desperately grabs as many of them as possible is one of the biggest "I'm not crying you're crying" moments of my life.
I did go back and watch guardians. he has no idea what a racoon is. when peter tells him, that's what you are, Rocket disagrees and says, "no one is like me." then later he is extremely offended Drax called him vermin. Its felt like a punch in the gut when he sees them, and I just started crying again.
Learning* he did not accept something he denied, he honestly did not know. Like slaves who had their native ancestry erased when they were enslaved. The high evolutionary took his friends and his own identity.

@@behindyoujamie Here is another one I think most people got wrong. When rocket escapes and flies away his face slowly grows cold and then angry. I first thought this was just because he was processing what happened and getting angry but I think it is worse.
I think when he finally saw sky which was what he dreamed of all his life all he saw was his friends not being there with him, and it ruined his hope/love/enjoyment of flying in the blue forever sky.
An absence keenly felt which ruins his favorite thing like a bad breakup ruining your favorite restaurant because your first date was there if that makes sense.
@@Matisaro And that makes the one quick scene in Vol2 of Rocket, Baby Groot, and Star-Lord happily flying around with their Aero-Rigs so much more meaningful. Rocket finally got to build machines to go flying with his friends. It was ruined once for him but it wasn't ruined forever
My favorite part is Gamora not joining the Guardian's group hug but is very intimate with the Ravagers. Really shows that this Gamora isn't the Guardian's Gamora, but one who found a different family.

Disagree. Because that's the way we all thought of. It's logical. I hoped that James Gunn will find an interesting mind-blowing way to bring them back together. If there is a person who could do it - it's James. But he didn't. So it's just an annoying lousy logical procedure. My heart beats for gamora and starlord. I hoped they can get an everlasting couple who carry the torch of love into the universe.
But I still love this movie, best so far.
I also immediately realized that Groot wasn't saying something other than "I am Groot", but that we now understand him! That moment gave me chills, man

I didn't realise that in the the theatre and thought it was a bit much after making "We are groot" so big, but now with the explanation (that I could have gathered from his talk with Gamora), it makes so much sense and adds itself to the long list of emotionally overwhelming movies.
I really hope, if they bring back Groot, that he talks normal but every non guardian on screen reacts as if they are still hearing I am Groot

Honestly, Floor really fucked me up. I was already horrified by Rocket's screaming but Floor freaking out and going into full panic, asking Rocket to take her away just really fucked me up. I honestly felt queasy.
My mom was shook that this is twelves (PG13) 😂
yeah that scene made me feel things I can't properly articulate, but it's just this.. purely gutted feeling
Floor's panic attack "floor, teefs, rocket run now!" is STILL sitting with me like a week later ahhhhh.

It’s not just the fact that his first word was “hurts” that is devastating, it’s the *way* the line was delivered, sounding so heartbreakingly *real.* This movie was mean 😭
Then Lyla finally comforts Rocket by taking the cloth and cleaning his head wound. The only time he feels safe and cared for is by an otter with cybernetic arms. And a walrus with wheels. And a bunny with spider legs and no mouth. Physically tortured to then feel comfort by other tortured animals. Let me tell ya, I was near tears the entire runtime of this movie.

God, I had completely forgotten Rocket and Nebula were the only ones during the snap. Her falling apart when she realized Rocket was awake just makes me even more emotional now. What a great character arc for her.
The time and care that James Gunn put into showing how much Nebula and Rocket bonded over those five years, especially because Nebula was so worried about Rocket this whole movie and would do anything to save him and Nebula being the first one he asked about when he woke up! and THE TEARS FROM NEBULA WHEN SHE HEARS ROCKET'S VOICE!!!! :')
I'm pretty sure he only asked about Nebula because of the screen saying she was trying to reach them via comms.

With all this stuff about timelines and Loki's series emphasizing that variants are unique people, it was nice having Gamora say what the others wouldn't acknowledge: their Gamora is dead. This is a different person. For that reason, I'm glad she didn't get with Quill and developed into her own character.
It's what I was most afraid of going in. I'm glad she was different and that romance was not back on the table. She deserves better and honestly, so does Peter. He deserves to move on and find closure. Doesn't need to be a new romantic partner either. Reconnecting with his Grandpa is a great first step.

@@joyc.e.7511 I think that's what Mantis was trying to have Drax tell Peter, with the lily pad/lake metaphor. Basically, Peter is using his relationship with past Gamora as a lily pad, something he can focus on and potentially gain back because a version of her exists, but he'll never fully move on and heal from his loss of Gamora until he dives in and deals with his first loss - that of his mom. He learned why she died, but by avoiding returning to Earth he's avoiding truly moving past that initial loss. I think the last after credits scene is a good hint that he is dealing with it slowly, by kind of recreating the childhood he never had with hia grandfather after their mutual loss. The t-shirt, eating sugary cereal for breakfast, discussing doing chores for a neighbor - I wouldn't say regressed, but it definitely felt like he was trying to make up for the loss his grandfather had to suffer, not seeing Peter grow up.
It's nice to see that the death of the previous Gamora had consequences. And she became more the character Gamora was always meant to be.
@@Persewna4 And Peter coming to understand that his Grandfather pushing out of the room as his mother died was not a rejection of Peter, but his grandfather was trying to protect him and that his Grandfather had lost both his daughter and grandson that night.
I thought I cried enough but start to tear up again when I realized Groot has to go through the grief of loosing Gamora as a mother figure because she doesn’t remember him as a baby and being so tender with him in Vol 2. That’s why his alone scene with her at the end was like a thank you/goodbye *sobs*
I didn't even realize that when that scene happened, now I'm sad all over again _fuck_
I definitely think Nebula is the surprising standout character of not only GOTG but the whole MCU. The arc of her realizing she's coping with self-hatred, doubt, fear etc by overcompensating with logic and skill is heartwrenching with everything she's gone though and had to learn. And that deep down she really wants Mantis' and Drax's emotional maturity despite them being naive and occasionally dumb. The end where she decides to settle down to help run Knowhere and raise the children with Drax got me stabbed right through the heart with the feels.
Yes! I love Nebula, her crying when she realized Rocket was alive was both beautiful and heartbreaking!!
Rocket's scream may be the best acting Bradley Cooper's ever done. It's HAUNTING in a way that I didn't know Marvel was capable of. And yeahhhhh, the 'Rocket Teefs Floor now" is... oof. Some therapists heard about that scene this week.

the craziest part is that these characters were CHILDREN. They were children murdered because they were seen as useless or broken.

that actually might have been Sean Gunn's scream he plays young rocket and Cooper did adolescent/ adult rocket but I can't find a source for who did which scenes specifically
Here’s something tragic to think about: it’s been established that Rocket has a fascination with mechanical body parts and finds it funny whenever they go missing, but it’s only ever human body parts; we never see him react to say a fake dog leg. My working theory is that since Rocket’s sort of internalized the intense trauma that came with his “creation” as it were, he finds it cathartic when seeing humans that have Been mutilated like he and his friends were
James acknowledged that there's a very complicated relationship with Rocket and prosthetics so good theory!
He finds stealing prosthetic body parts to be hilarious. Maybe he is using humor as a way to deal with his trauma.

The funniest part of guardians vol 3 was the decision to cast Will Poulter as a super powerful character, put him on the marvel steroids, and then give him material straight out of "We’re the Millers"

Thor 4 felt like it written by a group of teenager stoned to the sky on weed.
A detail I actually grew to really like as I sat more on the film after seeing it was the fact they didn't play the proper Tyler Bates Guardians fanfare until after Rocket rejoined the group in the third act
They're basically saying the group doesn't complete itself without him and completes his emotional journey from being so adverse towards working with them, to demonstrating the qualities of a proper leader, which is asserted by how the film ends with him leading the new team
yeah it's something I forgot to mention - when he's knockin all those hellspawn off the shit you get the full orchestra

My favorite part of the movie was when Nebula realized that Rocket was going to be okay. It took me a while to think about it, but she still talks about Thanos when they were with Ura raiding the vault, and she tells Gamora that she has upgrades courtesy of "that gutted badger."
It made me realize that she sees Thanos and Rocket as polar opposites. Thanos was abusive and tore her apart and added to her because she wasn't good enough. Rocket does the upgrades for her, because he's family, and he's saying that she can be even better than she is.
I didn’t even think about that parallel. God I’m sobbing again. Not only did they share a bond after being the only ones to survive the snap, but they share a bond in having been tortured by their creators/parental figure
I’ve never felt such conflicting feelings about a character, than I did for Lylla Floor and Teefs. I just want to scoop them up in my arms and keep them safe forever, but at the same time, I struggle to even *look* at them, you know? I love them and wish they could have gotten out and lived happily, but their augmentations were so grotesque and painful, that even when they were happy and optimistic all I could do was cry for them. This movie really nailed how gruesome and abhorrent animal experimentation is (even while taking it to the fictional extreme) and the way that they were all hopeful and optimistic despite the lives full of horror and pain that they had had, just made it all hurt so so *so* much worse.

It was so sweet seeing them talk and play and dream like all kids do, but not knowing that they deserved better and believing they were all going to a better place after this broke my heart. God, when Lila died and Rocket attacked that asshole...the way Floor and Teefs reacted is gonna stay with me for a while.

@@soccerruben1 for me, endgame felt like it was hurting me just to be mean (for the most part, some exceptions) whereas this movie felt like it was hurting to me to actually say something
i think the mcu needs to focus on smaller and personal stories instead of "multiverse this and multiverse that". the character work in this movie is absolutely incredible
I work with animals so every flashback scene with rocket severely affected me and, you're right, seeing his eyes after his 1st surgery and his 1st words were so gut punching sad. Almost the whole movie I was fighting not to cry

I didn’t even try to stop myself from crying, I was a mess for this movie
One of my favorite moments in the movie is when Pete and Groot are on the high evolutionary ship and Pete tells Groot to kill them all. In the very beginning Pete told everyone that they weren't going to kill anybody and kept yelling at Gilmora about shooting and hurting people when they were trying to get the code. But the moment he sees the videos of Rocket being experimented on and tortured he wants all of them dead. That part just sticks out in my head so much.
Gamora stole the stone to keep it away from Thanos, not just for money. She wanted the money to escape him, but she wanted to give it to the same guy the Asgardians left the reality stone because he seemed like the safest bet.
Her hero turn started the movie, but it's also why her death is so tragic.
I'm not a Chris Pratt fan BUT I feel like he's perfect in this role. In fact, I think the entire cast is absolutely phenomenally chosen. I totally agree with the emotions these movies and characters evoke
There's a video of him playing 9 holes with nick faldo. I don't think that in roles like Andy Dwyer or Star Lord he's acting much. He really is just a big dumb goof. Or that's the image he wants to project. I don't know.
I saw Pratt doing some improv on Jimmy Kimmel for a prank and his acting was *terrible*! But when he's in a controlled environment, and asked to do very specific things, he works for the part.
Chris Pratt is great when you want Chris Pratt. His character in gotg and parks and rec is just mostly him, he’s not acting that much

the line to drax of "you're not a destroyer, you're a dad" made me genuinely start sobbing
Draxx finally dancing was the perfect capstone to this story for me. This story has kinda used dancing and music as a metaphor for embracing connection and love.
Ronan can't understand what Peter is doing when he dances and is defeated because of it.
Ego crushes the Walkman rejecting his connection with Peter's mom.
High evolutionary loves music but only as something he can control. Not something to be cherished and experienced.
And of course Draxx. Who all the way back in gotg was pushing the idea that there are people who dance and people who don't dance. But as it turns out. Anyone can learn to dance.
He literally says only idiots dance in the beginning but now he's let go and having fun again

I made the mistake of wearing falsies to the theater and cried so much they were dangling by a lash at the end.
I love that the movie teaches men that they don’t need to be in a relationship to be complete. I feel like that moral is targeted to girls most of the time, but I wish I had heard it when I was younger.
i feel like i was the only person in the theater who realized the groot language moment and audibly gasped and started crying (for like the 5th time at least)
Love how they make space look so colourful and goofy instead of trying to make it cold and sleek. Unfortunately a few families in the theater brought under 8 year olds and they got super upset and had to leave 😢 It's an insanely heartbreaking intense movie.
This film was a cinematic masterpiece from start to finish. When I think about the fact we came very close to never getting this film it honestly makes me cry with happiness that we got this perfect end to a trilogy, the best trilogy in the MCU hands down. Utterly cathartic, the emotional moments hit, the humour is on point and didn’t undercut the stakes, satisfying character acts, a truly detestable villain, great music, brilliant action, excellent acting. This was top tier MCU, actually that is selling this film short, this is peak fiction. I’ll be sad if we never get to see these characters together again but I’m so happy with the way this ended I’ll accept it if that is to be the case
The Guardians of the Galaxy characters have always felt more real than most characters in the MCU (dysfunctional family dynamics and sibling banter hit close to home I guess lol) to me and I'm so glad that the bland way recent MCU movies have turned out didn't affect it. Guardians often feels like a whole separate movie franchise and I mean that in th best way.
@@joyc.e.7511 I completely agree. I think that’s part of why I adore Peter Quill- his cockiness is funny and you can feel that it’s overcompensating for his own self doubt. Volume 1 made me cry, Volume 2 was kind of a fun filler, and Volume 3 wrecked me.
And seeing Groot change so much in this last installment was cool.
"There is no God, that's why I stepped in" is such a raw line. I still hear it in my head. With so little this character said so much. I fucking loved it. I didn't need more reasons to hate him more but thanks.
I always thought Nebula was cool. And being played by Amy Pond? But after this I think she may be my new favorite character. The way she breaks down when she hears Rocket. This stone cold, mostly emotionless, monotone voiced, badass character just openly sobbing so hard Mantis had to basically take over for a moment. Oh my gawd I about sobbed myself. Just how much she’s grown and opened herself up to love and friends and family, but never loosing a drop of her badassness.
For me I loved Karen Gillian as Amy but I wasn't really sold on Nebula until the scene of her and Tony playing paper football. Her being caught off guard when Tony tells her that she won and it was a fair game, and immediately going into defense mode when he puts his hand out for a handshake, assuming it's some sort of trick as nothing in her life has ever been fair.
@@tokyodeathghoul2313 you know that another character relationship I wish they delved into more. Her and Tony had to have become close, stranded in space for months together. And he was probably the first person to treat her completely normal.
Do we ever really see how Tony’s death effected her?

There’s a certain group that’s still in denial that think James Gunn isn’t right to take control of the DCU when he delivered a fantastic trilogy and his dc projects the suicide squad and peacemaker season 1 was great/awesome. I loved this movie such a great conclusion for these characters if it’s the last we see of them.
I feel like that's because that group wants their dark edgy Randian fantasy, and Gunn will NEVER deliver that. His evolution in redefining masculinity, writing with real emotional depth, and treating female characters like real complex human beings has been incredible and he only continues to get better and better. I'm so excited to see what he'll do with DC!
Justice for Floor 😢
This movie devastated me. I haven't been able to stop thinking about Teefs Floor and Lyla since I saw it. I was so stressed out the whole time and honestly if it weren't for the jokes I wouldn't have been able to get thru it. I wanted to kill the High Evolutionary with my own hands. I don't think a marvel character has ever inspired such violent rage withing me. just listening to you talk about the events of this movie had me crying. I loved this film so much, and also James Gunn is a monster.
“Emotional damage” is accurate. Sobbing in the theater. Heart shattered on the floor. Done. Wrecked. But they put my heart back together. Unlike some recent Marvel outings that have just left me feeling like crap. Spider-Man, I’m looking at YOU.
Preach!! Spiderman was fun and all, but I did not agree with how it ended and I still get frustrated if I think about it for too long.
while the 3 Spideys thing itself was cool, I hated the extremely contrived ("idiot plot") way it came about; the Aunt May decision and like you, the ending. As someone who's had many people just disappear on me (as in, seemingly forget I exist) in the past few years, it felt like a huge "fuck you"
My favourite thing was Nebula. I mean they've all come a long way but when she gets between Peter and Gamora I really realized just how far she's come in particular and I love her. Also the body horror bits of her in combat when her body repairs from damage were awful and amazing.
Im not even exaggerating when i say i cried for the entire duration of this movie. Literally full-on sobbing behind 3D glasses because my dad took me to see it and insisted to watch it in 3D.

Kids will definitely be scarred by this movie. One at my screening was staight up having a panic attack over the everything that went on in this beautiful yet traumatizing film.
Yeah, definitely more intense than I was expecting, but not to the film's detriment. I am sorry about that kid though, probably a lot of young kids who love the Guardians came to see it and got traumatized. Heck, I'm a bit traumatized and I'm an adult 😭
They have Guardians of the Galaxy volume 3 Happy Meals right now. I'm concerned that might confuse some people who don't realize the material is heavy for children young enough to still be ordering meals with toys.
Why are ppl taking young children to PG13 movies though they're for adults
@@afriendorfoe yeah! People keep taking toddlers and very young kids to movies that are CLEARLY not for them
@@afriendorfoe because PG is "parental guidance" and 13 is 13. What is so confusing? This film isn't "for adults", it's literally rated as "ask your parents if you're under 13". Really young kids shouldn't watch it, but a lot of older but still preteen kids will be absolutely fine, something their parents are (usually) going to be the best judge of. This isn't parents taking their young kids to see R rated Deadpool.
When you take into account how the Guardians are marketed (baby Groot, fun soundtrack and lots of bright colours, including the freaking Imposter-invoking spacesuits) a lot of people are going to take it as a family film, and most people are just going to assume the rating is because there are fight scenes, minor cuss words and non-explicit "adult themes" and sex jokes, which is usually a fair shout for PG13.
Honestly, PG13 is usually way too high of a rating for the movies it gets put on, which is probably why some people are taking younger kids to see it, but I think it was pretty perfect for this one. Although I will say that given my pre-established opinion on PG13 mostly being a silly rating that the movies it's used for don't deserve, it's possible this one should have been given a 15 just so people took it a little more seriously

This was easily one of the best MCU films to date... And what a complete roller coaster of emotions.
I went in expecting to be disappointed, to see another soulless marvel movie and DAMN do I love being wrong! I didn't out right cry, but it was so nice to have marvel characters who feel actually fleshed out. As someone with siblings, the banter between the crew and the genuine love they had for each other was so good. Irritate the shit out of one another, but ready to throw hands the second someone else tries something. Side note: I'm starting to realize that the crazy scientists experimenting on people and animals (especially children) are probably my most hated kind of villain. really effective in getting real anger and hatred out of me (Looking at you Made In Abyss).
I wonder if Marvel can get Gunn on loan to continue these characters? Probably not. I don't like the idea of a hack taking over these characters. I love Cosmo, and I want know her backstory. But I want Gunn to tell it.

Nobody gives Drax the attention he needs. The scene where he tells the girl that she reminds him of his daughter honestly broke me. Also his monkey impression was spot on.

Gunn has always had an amazing gift for finding the heart and humanity in a group of found family misfits. It is genuinely my sincerest hope that now with the Guardians’ story having ended that the upcoming Thunderbolts could take up the baton of stories about a messy and chaotic yet loving found family of misfits helping each other heal and grow. Because it’s these kinds of stories with heart that I truly treasure.
honestly, the scene where the Rocket's friends die was incredibly haunting to me. It shows how young Rocket and his friends were that day. Rocket couldn't do anything but scream and cry as his first ever family was killed in front of him. Floor running around screaming "Rocket, Teeth, Floor go now" over and over until she literally died shows that she's nothing but a child trying to run away from her abuser. and poor Teeth was just an innocent child who didn't interact with the High Evelutionary, but still gets killed. it's genuinely heartbreaking to watch and my best friend (who I've never seen cry before) was basically sobbing in the theater with me as we watched that scene
I loved the Guardians trilogy and the holiday special. I knew nothing about them going into the first movie. I loved the music, I love the characters, especially Mantis. I loved James Gunn's directional style.
The ending to the third movie was perfect for me. There need to be more dance party endings.
This is like the only movie for me where the dance party ending wasn't cringe-inducing (for lack of a better word). They usually give me second hand embarrassment but seeing all these characters who've just been through hell dancing joyfully together was amazing, especially because I love the song used (Florence and the Machine is one of my favorite artists). It captured the happiness but also that bitter sweet feeling of moving on with ones life. God, I adore these characters!
the fact that they chose Dog days are over for that ending makes me very happy 💜 and also, from now on, every time I hear that song I know I will always get nostalgic and feel like crying a little
That ending had me cry tears of sadness and happiness at the same time. Some of the members leaving, but looking to grow and reconnect when time decides it.
This movie traumatized me. I was not prepared for it, I had trouble sleeping afterwards and cried multiple times after watching it. I'm very sensitive to animal cruelty and anything to do with animals so it was rough for me even though they were relatively good about not showing us much. Considering Nebula said the torture Rocket went through was worse than what Thanos did to her I'm glad they didn't.
Traumatized me too. I do think Nebula thought it was worse because she loves Rocket and it was hard to see that happening to him. Bet Rocket would have said the same thing if he saw Thanos cutting up Nebula. Sometimes it's easier to endure pain yourself rather than watch it happen to a loved one and feel powerless to stop it.
As bad as it was, still tame compared to what factory farms & slaughterhouses look like

I feel the same. I knew we’d see some of Rocket’s back story but man I was not prepared. For some reason I didn’t even consider that he would’ve been a baby, or that there’d be other animals. Poor Floor….
Frankly I still feel like crying a week later.
Nebula has come such a long way. She loves them all now and when she said that about Rocket my heart hurt for her.

this movie reminded me how emotionally attached I am to these fictional characters and I love it, but it still messed me up and I cried so much
I loved it, I would have liked more of Adam. As it is, he feels fairly insignificant, but I don't know what you'd get rid of to make more room for him, because there's already so much in it.
Honestly I feel like one little tweak could have given us more of him and that would’ve been him choosing to help The Guardians after his mother died because he wants The High Evolutionary dead, would’ve given him more scenes and allowed him some time to understand him

Perfection. And yes, I cried just listening to you describe these scenes. He does such a touching, meaningful blend of the humor BECAUSE of the pain, because of the relationships, because of the care rather than undercutting and removing the punch - I adore this trilogy and these characters.

This gives me hope about James Gunn's DCU. If he can do the character interactions and emotional moments as well as he did with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, maybe DC will finally get the live action movies it deserves.

Not ashame to admit I cried me self dry from Volume 3. Rocket really became the hero especially since Infinity War and how he struggle to pull back him family together. This would probably be my last MCU film or at least the one I watch with anticipation or connection left and it was a grande finale.
I loved a lot of parts in this movie and one them is that, in the end, Rocket put Dog Days Are Over and it means so much in so many levels. The upbeat rhythm, the lyrics, the contrast from the song he himself chose at the beginning of the movie, the celebration by EVERYONE DANCING and with whom (Drax with his new children, Nebula with her comunity, Rocket Racoon - yes, lastname Racoon, acknowledging and acepting who he is and his history and roots, because he was just a monster in his eyes - dancing with his group that loves him and accepts him...) Arhg! So many emotions!!!!! And btw, I never thought to interpret the "I love you, guys" as we finally understanding Groot (I thought it was just a "we are Groot" moment from the first film 😅) and thanks to you I love this movie even more XD

I watched dis movie on my birthday with my best friend and i kinda sobbed also whenever Rocket and his lylla and floor and teefs said how important friendship was i would look at my bff and hold my tears. It was truly a really nice movie it had his problems but it was awesome
Not gonna lie, The High Evolutionary's music was the most memorable villain theme the MCU had in a Loooooonnngg while.
And I agree a lot, High Evolutionary is one of the most terrifying villains thanks to “Show don’t Tell” and his freak out at his subordinates at the end was spine chilling to me when that music drops.
I am more than happy to leave the MCU after this because I was more emotionally satisfied ending here than with Endgame.
About the feels: it is also what Zack Snyder movies always lack for me. With Snyder is always Style > Substance. Suckerpunch and Watchman is the perfect examples of his terrible focus on what is cool instead of what it hits in the gut.
Went into this movie with no clue. Now, I wish i knew of content warnings. Animals always freaking get me the most in the feels. :/
What made the opening scene extra disturbing for me in my theatrical viewing of the movie was that for some reason some audience members were “laughing” during the part when the hand was reaching for rocket. I already knew that part was going into some disturbing stuff so I had the chills and the laughing only made it extra hard.
GOTG 3, aka "The 2-hour fight against my tear ducts"
*Spoiler* The moment Rocket said, "Hurts," a heartbroken gasp echoed through my entire theatre. I heard people unabashedly weeping around me multiple times during the film. I'm going to see it again for sure.
I ugly cried in the theater. I don't cry easily, so it was actually quite cathartic.
I'm pretty sensitive to animal cruelty so the flashbacks were difficult to stomach. Watching the rest of the team react when they finally see what happened to Rocket was a gut punch, but expertly directed. You can see on their faces the pain of watching someone they love being brutally tortured. And then when Nebula said it was worse than what Thanos did to her...oof...
Excellent use of soundtrack as always. The opening sequence with Creep gives you the perfect introduction to the tone of the movie, and the Beastie Boys moment toward the end was incredible.
Could've used more of Groot, especially since his and Rocket's relationship has been such an emotional core in these movies. We didn't get to see much of him reacting to what was going on with Rocket. It was mostly focused on Peter, which is fine, and understandable, but it felt like Groot should have been a little more present.
Still, what a beautiful ending to a great story.
I think I'm happy getting off of the MCU train after this movie. This was the best ending to my favorite trilogy in the franchise. I'll pop back in for Secret Wars

OMG, yes to everything you said, but especially about Rocket letting him live at the end. The first thing I thought after the movie was how much suffering could have been prevented if Rocket had watched Zombieland and knew the rule about the double tap. He could have killed him in the first fight. He shot the henchmen in that scene too but left the big bad alive. I thought for sure he was not going to make that mistake twice. But alas, Deadpool remains the only "hero" to go the extra step in neutralizing the threat.
james gunn let the big bad die in peacemaker, so i'm disappointed in him here

Nebula's reaction when she found out Rocket was ok really hit me in the feels. Her catching her breath showing how much she cares.
Dad here, there were so many little moments that made me get teary eyed but drax getting called a dad FUCKING BROKE ME. Pretty sure the last 45 minutes I had tears just chilling in my eyes the whole time. So good.
Went to see it again today. Thought I could hold it together this time, but I was so wrong. Also just cried my way through the second half of this review.
I’m completely blown away by how good it is, and how it elevates the trilogy as a whole, to be able to see the full picture now. It’s really special.
So I’m just your average 40 year old dude that’s not big on displays of emotion. I have three daughters that wanted to see this movie with me but because I heard about the animal cruelty aspect, I decided that they should wait until it’s on Disney+ so we could fast forward through the tough parts. As for myself, I didn’t think it would affect me that much so off I went to see the movie by myself.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
I cried, the other dudes in the theater cried, everyone was crying. My favorite part of the movie was the fact that there was an absolute bastard of a villain that had no redeeming qualities. Great movie, great video Amanda.

I'm most impressed with James Gunn's decision to push every emotional button without killing any of his major characters, not even the nightmarish High Evolutionary. When Rocket REFUSES to pull the trigger on that monster, that's a way bigger victory than killing him would have been.
I left the theatre, came home and gave my rabbit a treat and a hug.

My dad and I had to switch screenings because of rude movie goers. We were about forty minutes in, and the other screening just started. I didn’t mind sitting through that opening again
It was definitely in my top five Marvel movies of all time. The villian was amazing, the darkness brought me down and the comedy and family brought me back up on a skilled emotioal rollercoaster. Do NOT go into it expecting a happy movie.
Yeah, this movie is sadder than The Notebook.
From a cinematic standpoint, this was a near-perfect film. But I'll never be able to watch it again.

One thing that really stood out to me about Nebula that I haven't really seen anyone mention yet was right at the beginning. When she was tucking drunk Peter into bed and he reached out and touched her arm, dreaming about Gamora. They didn't make a gag or a bit out of it, they just let Nebula be so gentle with him and show sympathy. Excellent emotional storytelling that gets immediately overshadowed by Adam lol
I saw this movie Sunday and I'm still crying about it. It very well be my favorite Marvel movie since Endgame.

I loved that Nebula got to show some heart in this movie. She was genuinely hurt when Rocket got hurt and was SO PISSED at her comic relief teammates seemingly being too stupid to do things right and not taking things seriously. I understood her, even if she didn't see her friends had hidden depths.
I haven't watched this yet and I'm already tearing up at how you describe the Rocket story. I'm not going to emotionally survive this.
I’m not one who usually cries at movies and such but oh my god dude did I SOB. Never did I think a Marvel movie would make me feel that way. For real thought it’s been a long time since a Marvel project has made me feel that fullfilled
Lovely film. I still think Volume 2 was my favorite, but this one had a lot of heart and some really wholesome positive messages.
I reacted strongly to Rocket’s first word. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I was 12, stuck in my room in terrible pain, having my parents try treatments for me that usually didn’t work or even made me worse. I kept getting sicker for 18 years.
When I heard, “hurts,” I just… got this flash of young me in bed saying, “Help,” in bed, too exhausted and weak to move, with no real hope that anyone would hear, anything would change.
My parents always talked about me getting better, like id go back to how I was before. But eventually I realized it was impossible. I grew to adulthood without ever knowing a single day as someone healthy. I even wanted a funeral for that Amara, to mourn the future that she lost (all my friends couldn’t handle such a difficult situation so I lost them, I was also too sick to attend college and couldn’t work, barely spoke most weeks… for YEARS). And to get past the idea of her coming back, because even if I became healthy, I wouldn’t be HER. She was 11 when her life changed and she slowly disappeared.
Just the… intense emotion I felt for that past me, and how scared and helpless and alone I felt… I was not expecting that!
Despite the last month being very difficult for me physically, I actually ended up with a happy ending; I had a long shot surgery that actually worked, relearned how to walk, got married, and am in college. I’m going to be a social worker and then a psychologist for those with chronic pain. Several specialists (I had 14 at one point) said my case is a miracle, or that I’m a walking miracle, because “people that are that far gone,” or 100% disabled and bed bound at my age, after being sick that long, “don’t just recover/come back.”
I was absolutely in a cage for 18 years and I escaped. So there was no way for me to make it through this movie unscathed!
This movie made me openly bawl like a baby in the cinema.
