      "Not good for RP"
Well, let's look up what we'll find if we'd look for heavily armored recon tank with interleaved road wheels, single man turret and armed with either machine gun or autocannon, shall we? Woops, we've just described Panzer I F and and Panzer II J recon tanks with 80mm frontal armor, 50mm side armor and having 25kph and 31kph road speed in ideal conditions. Real existing RECON tanks. Whose job was to go in front of the infantry, get shot at and thanks to heavy armor, retreat and report on ambushes. Who could have guessed?!
P.S.: HoI4 uses operational speed, not maximum speed on the road. Operational speed includes moving over actual terrain, getting stuck in dirt, maintenance, rearming, refueling and several other time wasting factors. For example if you travelled the road at 70kph for an hour, then spend 8 more hours in the dirt at 20kph and after that spend 2 more hours for maintenance then your operational speed during that period WON'T be 70kph, it'll be just short of 21kph.

So spec for forests which would be 21 x 2 for the best tank template. 6 Motorized/Mech for Mobile, 8 for any other doc. Rest are mediums, if someone is meming with Heavies that you can't pierce replace one medium with a single medium TD and presto you win. You only need Support AA really, so don't put motorized AA.

It's circumstantial, and probably not worth it for people who want a "perfect" template, but Armour and Piercing are calculated as 40% best plus 60% average, therefore adding a single Medium Tank Battalion to a Light Tank template improves Armour and adding a single Tank Destroyer Battalion to a Tank Template improves Piercing and Hard Attack can make a difference when fighting other Tanks. The downside is needing more types of Equipment, which is prone to imbalanced production and shortage of one type.

The most common mistake when you make a division is to forget the terrain.
In China, Africa or Russia, attrition is just too high. So for example for Russia, having engineer (giving bonus movement in marsh) and infantry division under 20 width is important for holding front. Then I use special forces and tanks to prevent any encirclement or collapse of the front.
Then, there is Africa. A logistic nightmare. You cannot make tank division or even special force the same way than in Europe. Two light tanks + 4 MOT + aa and art companyy + flame company to increase soft attacks. Forget about hard attack and use CAS instead.
I think you understand really well the mechanic of the game but you never talk about terrain when making templates.
Having cost effective division is good.
Having division not loosing everything every times they move is better.

Like, every division/battalion has inf, art, and tanks? Does that kind of ruin the idea of a breakthrough specialty army with normal "hold the line" infantry units. For high HP divisions at low IC like infantry, they mostly disrespect CAS at that point for a comparatively small investment.
Edit: soft attack "falling off" is a ridiculous notion though. Breakthrough is nothing more or less than "defense while attacking". If you want crap off that tile you're pushing, you need your divisions doing more damage. Attacks > their defense is the way that happens any time soon.

    • @kimpatz2189
      @kimpatz2189 Před rokem +2

If u mix those, then you effectively cancel out the best stats the LT or MT has to offer. Its speed. The lowest speed battalion bogs the entire div as it is now the speed of the div. Heavies are for very very heavy punch through the lines. The mediums can do both, heavy punch and some encirclements. And lights can do encircling at a much faster speed. If AI is stacking on the frontlines, bring your heavy divs and punch a hole on the line. This can be followed by mediums if the line has better enemy and needs more armor to compensate in order to do encircling. The lights can be used if for some reason the AI lightly manned the lines and if its forbidden to use heavies or meds as the area has harsh supply issue. Lights can be substituted by motorized if your industry is unable to support fielding tanks of any size. The lights can be designed to match the motorized for a maximum speed use. Motorized and mechanized has a base speed of 11kph. Match it to your tank designer and you can have space for more armor if you design a light tank.

      Motorized and do the encirclement.
If not, use the cavalry and do encirclement.
Use conservative combat width and a small number of divisions to make a punch on the line and encircle them. Atleast 12 or 15 divs will do.
Large amount of divs on a tile hits hard on supply.

In single player games against the AI you don't need particularly strong special forces units. 20-30 cw marines or even infantry with engineers for naval invading. Literally one battalion of paratroopers bc successful paratrooper operations are rare so using them as fodder is preferred.
