I believe the 3 waves is a Celtic symbol. "The Triskele or Triskelion is a symbol that consists of three interlocked spirals. It is one of the oldest Irish Celtic symbols in existence, and is best known to represent the three worlds; the celestial, physical, and spiritual."
This explains a lot about Silent Hill having three dimensions one of fog, one of darkness and one of a hellish nightmare.
Really wish there was more info on the native religion in the swamp area before it became a town - since the whole reason the cult can summon a demon is due to the land's underlying power and the way that White Claudia can access it, the mystery symbols on the Halo might be related to tapping into that same source.
I wish we got a Silent Hill sequel (prequel?) about that.

The scales could represent equilibrium specially if you see their orientation in the circle, on top we have the eye of providence or the eye of god and at the bottom a simbol that's related to a demon the scale could mean the equilibrium between good and evil and the pi simbol could be seen as how they are inside the same system ( inside the circle)

@Max Derrat Rovasiras was used in alchemical symbols and texts that were common in the mid to late middle ages that came from Eastern Hungary and from the existent Hungarian communities found in southern Bohemia and parts of Moravia. Eastern Hungary was the last hold out of Hungarian prechristan practices and runic writing as late as the early renaissance. Emperor Rudolf II of the Holy Roman Empire even sponsored the writing of many books and tomes that collected these works. Some of these works are sold in book stores in modern reprintings internationally to this day.

I think the Pi symbol is a reference to the film "Pi" which is about someone discovering a mathematical equation that can summon God. The protag is then stalked by a cult looking to take this knowledge from him.
Depends on the year that film came out on also.
I feel I must mention, since this is something I can contribute with, you mentioned Daguz, when discussing the icon at the top of the circle, that particular letter not actually from the pre-latin Hungarian alphabet but instead from the pre-latin Germanic alphabet, used historically by people in Scandinavia, England (specifically, not the rest of Britain), and on the continent, in what is now the regions of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Lowlands.

Alizer could be an anagram of Azriel (alternate spelling of Azrael, the angel of death) or Raziel (angel of mysteries and keeper of secrets from the Kabbalah). Also Soul Reaver lol

We also read sigils like a clock. So it could read something like “help of my god, Alessa, Dahlia, Incubas” so it could mean something like, “With the help of my god, Alessa and Dahlia will summon Incubus” the other symbols are there to empower that message. The eye of god at the top, the three circles that are always part of a ritual alter, especially when summoning, and the sounds symbols would be what one would probably chant to give that symbol it’s power during a ritual. A name of a demon and possibly an angle as if being aided by both is much like the connection between calling Incubus who is like Satan but calling him God. As if both are one in their religion.
I'm taking a wild guess here so. Pi represents infinity. The wavey lines in my opinion could represent waves. Putting the 2 together, I think automatically, the infinite waves of realities for which silent hill faces. Or rather not silent hill itself but it's inhabitants to each individual character. For each game we see silent hill shape and manifest itself into what, to my knowledge, is each individual person's hell (note me if I'm wrong on that) so the waves represent the ripples of infinite realities of silent hill and the people who inhabitant or are brought to silent hill. The scales are there to balance the realities, again, speculating here, but maybe they're balancing the infinite amount of realities of silent hill so that they do not clash with one another. Which would explain why each game with each unique character can go to specific areas of which a previous character would've been and then upon investigating where a hole used to be, the quote "there used to be a hole here but it's gone now" would appear instead of the hole, representing that the realities will not clash with one another because they are balanced by the scale. Let me know what you think of my idea? Does it make sense or am I going off the rails here?

So I may be reading too deep into this, but the pi symbol got my head going. Because, as far as we know, pi is a never ending number. The lines opposite pi look like a repeating symbol. The scales balancing them could mean a process that continues on and repeats itself. Over and over but always moving forward. Much like the results of the ritual to birth God.
I think i got PTSD from SH1 as a child (long story) but as an adult i love the analyzing videos and today is Your day. You doing some fantastical work. Also i was like "What?? What does our rovásírás doing in a Japanese game from 20+ years ago doing there?"
I'm hungarian an even for us it's a forgotten "language,, although is learnable. There are multiple rovásírás like Old German and the Old English one, probably Alizer doesn't make sense due to that. Ether way it cool to see my old language in a game.

Ooooooooh a Max Silent Hill video!! This was exciting!! Your silent hill content is genuinely some of my favourite YT content. I’ve played the first game but by proxy through you have “played” them all.
I'm not very well versed in Silent Hill. However Alizer may like the oddly spelled Incubus be a transcription variant of Eliezar meaning God has Helped. The name of one of Aaron's sons and therefore Moses's nephew. In the classic Cecil B DeMille Ten Commandments film he is the one who opens the door during the Passover. The door with rams blood being the only thing that stood between the Israelites and the angel of death. This is ritualized as an invitation from the children of the house for the prophet Elijah to join them for Passover. The Greek version of Eliezar is Lazarus. Taken separately these might be interesting to you in this context. If combined, opening the door of death as the means of inviting a supernatural child to join them is an interesting reversal. Maybe this means something here, maybe not, but here are my two zuzim.
I think there is reasonable proof about the meaning of the eye at the top. In SH3, one of the cards Heather collects is number 22, "Eye of Night". It's the same eye symbol. This card doesn't exist in IRL tarot, and the Book of Lost Memories confirms that the card represents the Order's god.
As for the squiggly lines, perhaps a reference to aquarius? Although i think thats usually just two wavy lines not three.

To me the right squiggle looks like a goetia sigil, something from the lesser key of solomon. Although I failed to find something looking particularly similar.

Love your videos on subjects like this, as always I learned something. I found the resemblance of the Goetic Circle with the Halo of the Sun to be very interesting. It blows my mind how much work Team Silent put into their craft, you gotta respect it.

Although, a similar symbol resembling the Halo of the Sun can be found in one of the cells of Toluca Prison in Sh2

OH BABY just when I thought he was done with this franchise, he pulls me back in!
The “)))” reminds me of how people depict sound waves in music. There’s a drone metal band named Sunn O))) that use those in their band name and it’s the type of guitar amplifiers they use (a sun represented with the “O” and the “)))” being the rays of the sun or sound waves coming out from a speaker cone). Sound is communication, which could potentially tie in to the sigil being used as an invocation of a demon.
A lot of those symbols look like they are from the Kybalion (Hermetic philosophy/alchemist text of ancient Egypt and Greece) and the Emerald Tablet. If they are, that could be an indication that the X symbol at the top is actually just the Roman numeral X for 10, appearing at the top because the Kabbalah tree of life has 10 sephiroth, with the 10th circle (Kether) being god. Coincidentally, “Heather” the character sounds like “Kether.”
Maybe worth looking into? I went to school for philosophy and world mythology. This stuff is super interesting to me.
I came here to find this comment. As soon as I seen the ))), the first thing that came to me was SunnO))) (or Sun) funnily enough they have that odd connection with Hungary too with Atilla appearing. And Track 2 of Monoliths and Dimensions being a Hungarian word.

The wavy lines may be a reference to another symbol of the the zodiac: Aquarius. In the wheel of the zodiac, Aquarius sits opposite Leo (bringing to mind the “balance” associated with the third symbol, that being Libra), though I can’t explain why there would be three lines, in total, rather than the traditional two.

If force is being applied to this system from the outside, it would need an ameliorating force from within to maintain the circumference (the Pi).
Balance between force and stillness, chaos and order, male and female, red god and yellow god.

The Silent Hill lores always intrigues me the most in video game franchises. Never stop making Silent Hill lores dude. This symbol really do gets my attention the most since day one. I know that it’s a cult based symbol,but know what it represents in religious based mythos. Team Silent really put a whole a lot of efforts and research when it comes to make a unique horror story. Too bad the movies don’t do any justice here.
In some works, Pi symbolized infinity and invisible path on Sephirot. If got with 3 lines maybe it can be something like end or some kind of constraint

The wavey lines are the other world along with pie meaning earth or this world. The scale is used as a metaphor to relate to switching realites within the same place. Kinda like silent hill origins with the mirror world. Able to go through back n forth.
As usual a very good and interesting video, about a game i love. The small symbols in the inner circle reminded me of austin Osman spare desire language or some symbols of chaos magick, I imagine Japanese people know of the iluminate of thanateros and the fact that the gods of silent hill are pretty chaotic is a possibility, also reminded me of love craft's eldritch language.

Japanese is a phonetic language; things are pronounced exactly how they're spelled, so our pronunciation dictates how our words are spelled in Japanese. Because they have to "uhs" sound, the closest phonetic sound is an "ahs" sound, hence "Incubasu" - インキュバス. They likely then removed the "u" from the end of the Japanese pronunciation.
Weird, my post was deleted. Anyway, I posted that at its core, the HOTS is an alchemic sigil, and the three circles represent life, death, and rebirth. That's why it is so prominent in SH3. Though that old image and passage in the book is very interesting. Also, if you want to go the route that there are two people standing in the circles while the third is sacrificed, than I think the connection between Alizer and Lisa becomes more obvious.

11:18 Regarding the scales. I believe they relate to the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and perhaps Aleister Crowley's ritual magic known as Thelema. These are also sources Toyama would definitely have access to if he was researching heavily into occult magic specifically.

I am loving this please keep going!! So interesting when we look at everything -I kinda believe some of these things they put into the game. I believe they did it on purpose to perhaps wake our inner conscious as I believe the makers are quite smart. Of course as well as to make the player feel mentally disturbed of course.

The top symbol of the halo also reminds me of the Roman numerical characters on top of Tarot Cards (which are also featured in SH3).
In the Major Arcana, the card that features the X numerical character, is the Wheel of Fortune, which can symbolize a major change within a cycle, or the beginning of a new one, for better or for worst. This, I think, makes a perfect parallel to the cult’s intent in bringing about an absolute change to mankind through the birth of their god.

What's strange is that in some scenes in SH3 and 4 it looks like they had to make whole new designs for the Halo of the Sun as some of those symbols are out of place, and not just from being mirrored. It's as though even if mirrored, they are positioned as though the model for the sigil was laid face-down. Also, I am not sure of the source of the sigil shown in this video, but the games consistently make the "three squiggles" look like a different symbol. And I'm actually convinced the symbol above the all-seeing eye looks like an hour glass to indicate time, a major dimension for summoning and transcending the limitations of the mortal plane.
I'm looking at an Amazon entry for a Halo of the Sun necklace (you know, the seal from the cult of Silent Hill fame). Amongst the ad is "great for mother's day" I... wow. The irony there is weapons grade.

I'm absolutely amazed by how much thought and care was put into developing this fantastic game. It is incredible, and I fear that era in which developers were so passionate is long past and will never return.
Transcendental magic is sitting on my bookshelf from the time I played SH1 for the first time when it came out. Althogh it is an coinsidence :-)
Really hard to say if the symbols are consistent with everything else in the game. There's a chief deity, there's also an incubus which is like a corrupted form of the deity, two angels named in SH3 I think, and the "god" birthed from Heather which is another corrupted incarnation of the deity. And the cult's beliefs change over time.
Hmm, i know it might sound stupid, but what if [Incubas] and [alizer] would form a word [incubalizer] (like a "criticizer"). A device (or, perhaphs, a human, being or even a society), which transform somebody into a living incubator? An Incubator for, say, a God (if we're talking about SIlent Hill).
Triple moon also might be used as a symbol of repeating cycle. Like phases of the moon itself, repeating again and again. Or cycle of life.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Gyromancy at all. If I'm not mistaken, Dahlia used the Circle of the Sun in her Gyromancy rituals.
Secondly, I'm not sure if you've hit this topic yet, but I think a video could be made regarding the 21 Sacraments and the concept of resurrection.

I'm leaning on "He thought it looked cool" and never imagined there would he a cult following dissecting and analyzing his work to such depth.
The piece referred to in the center as “the kings crown” I always heard it represented a crucible (literal or metaphysical) and the symbols surrounding were alchemical language to be used in conjunction. The actual source (games specifically 3) refers to how the three inner circles represent Past Present and Future so interesting that the forms of alessa including the material source of Alessa (dahlia as past) herself (as present) and Cheryl/heather (future) are also present with the names of each associated on the rune as well.
Some insight into the Seal of Metatron would also be interesting since the both games 1&3 that reference it by name and function both explain it to be a red herring or a piece of junk in the end of its intended purpose but the symbol is present in the double pyramid head fight as the symbol in the center of the arena in a corrupted other world that has no physical connection to the tangible place it exists in ergo a direct connection to the town’s supernatural power.

Before you introduced the goetic circle for comparison I was convinced that the 3 inner circles represented Dante's description of god as being 3 circles at the end of the divine comedy. Now I'm not so sure. Great video.

something that I haven't seen mentioned and is purely speculation, the various symbols used could be a showcase that the order is much older than we are aware of. a sort of cult across the ages, which could explain why some of the symbols are lost or unknown.
Alizer is an anagram of the name of the angel Raziel, who tends to serve as a psychopomp that one contacts before contacting another angel. Kind of a gatekeeper. No idea if that connection was intended by the devs.

I love your work. But in pertaining to silent Hill if you haven't already I suggest investigating twinperfects silent Hill series. Alessa wasn't burned as part of a ritual.
Pi may repesent the material plane, as it forms in a mathmatical sense, and the wavy lines may reperesnt the spiritual plane. The two need to be balanced. Just a wild guess lol.
Whilst I may not have an idea on the crown and symbols, I have a feeling the Scales are something related to "Deed Vs Sin" which was the measurements needed after the entry of Purgatory to determine if you'd burn in Hell or enter the gardens of Eden. The scales have between it's "bowls" what I think are Philosopher's Stones, the stone of perfection and immortality; because of this: it is determining whether or not within the Purgatory now if those who must be judged at the highest order are fit to enter Heaven or must fall to Hell, but look how the scales are perfectly balanced... That to me makes me think it is still trying to pass that judgment, and it'll only be able to truly pass judgment when the protagonist hit with this burden chooses particular ways to progress, that will either weigh it one side or another, but if somehow it still is balanced: judgment cannot be passed as there is insufficient evidence to prove if you are one or the other, and must therefore be tested further of your resolve by answering questions from the Judges only those who have been through that trauma would be able to answer, and if answered correctly: would the enlightened be allowed to enter the pearly gates, those who answered wrong would be damned for all eternity.

Rovásírás literally means 'wrinting by etching / carving' the symbols into stone tablets. Ancient Hungarians & Vikings have these artifacts, very cool although we do not learn this in school unfortunately : ( how cool would it be? An extra language added to our mother tounge plus english
I am uncertain if this bhas been mentioned before, but the symbols around the circle that you mentioned thinking they were Alchemical symbols. I'm not sure. They appear to be in Enochian Script, which is an allusion to angelic/goetic summoning magic pioneered by John Dee. I could be wrong, but I recognize a few of the letters.
If egypt approach is right the unknown symbol could be a modified symbol of Aquarius as in the Egyptian sky fills the Nile River maintaining life just like the sun
my working theory for the symbols around the inner circle at 7:00 is that it's the alchemical roadmap/recipe/"how to" guide on how to rebirth God. i think Reinstall Paul also mentioned this, thought i'm not sure and don't have any proof to back up my claim. at the very least, it's fun to think about. :p
