    Paul, Great look mixing the Iron Oxide finish with the crackled chalk paint. Loving that!
    One thing I did notice though is that your face frame is assembled incorrectly. The stiles should go full height, and the rails fit in between. It is done that way to account for wood movement on account of the opposing 90 degree grain patterns at the joint. The way it was done here, as the wood moves over time, those joints will open up, and the wood could possibly split on the stiles. I especially like the way you attached the face frame to the cabinet. Very clean look!

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Al, I really appreciate your input as I notice you do very nice work, however the placement of the stiles and rails are more about aesthetic purposes rather than strength. It is tradition to run the stiles from top to bottom but it has no bearing on the structural integrity. I ran my rails full length because it is easier for the DIYer to measure wall to wall and fill in rails. This cabinet is 32” wide and 39” tall but what if I kept the same frame and turned it sideways? The cabinet would be 39” wide and 32 “ tall but the stiles would then run full length from top to bottom. You have a great channel and I would recommend anyone to visit it.
      Thanks and have a good night!

    Still love this. I want to build this but only the right side will be next to a wall. My left side will be exposed. The glassed shower glass panel will be about 12 inches away on the left. What is your recommendation for the left side since it will be exposed? I will terminate the crown at the right wall and back wall.

      Is star bond permanent? Or temp? Hmmm

    • @Texasknowhow
      @Texasknowhow Před 3 lety +1

      @@HappyPappynKatyTX - Permanent- it’s basically super glue with an activator (in the spray can). When they touch each other... no moving it. But he is using a white/wood glue in addition for longevity. The super glues are super brittle and with some banging of the doors etc will eventual crack loose. The wood glue will dry slowly and hold long term.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 lety

      You can build the face frame last like I did and match the wall. After you set your cabinet in place you can take a measurement from the top of your cabinet to the wall in the bottom of the cabinet to the wall on both sides that way you can cut your styles on an angle to match the wall. I hope this helps, if you need more information I will be happy to provide it for you. Have a good night!

  • @boots7859

    Paul, I see you have the exactrack what do you think of tracksaws? The Wen one is only $130 and I think comes with tracks, and honestly it would be worth paying a little more to get an exact cut without have to fiddle with measuring back from your cut line to blade offset or having to make a jig.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 lety

      Hi Boots, I like tracksaws and they really come in handy. I have both and I use them both on different situations. The ExacTrack saw is great for the DIYer but it would not keep up for daily professional use. In the video I suggest to get the 4 amp. hr. battery and heavy duty charger because the battery and charger that comes with the saw lack the power that I like for the saw. It works excellent for sheet goods and I really like it with the larger battery.
      I hope this helps!
      Paul

    I may have missed it. I'm assuming the paint is applied after the glue is dried.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 lety

      Hi Wendi,
      Here are the steps.
      1 Stain or paintt the base coat
      2 After it dries you apply the glue.
      3 As soon as the glue is applied you will apply the flat or chalk paint. You have to apply the chalk paint while the glue is wet. The paint will start to dry while the glue is wet and it seperates causing the cracks.
      I hope this helps.
      Thanks!
      Paul

    Just saw your video on Rescure it for your deck, from several years ago. What is your opinion of it now?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 lety

      It’s a pretty good product but you have to maintain it. What I mean by that is just keep it clean, every summer I would clean it and sometimes I have to touch up a couple of spots. I saw complaints from people up north and I think it is because it does not handle ice very well. Up north to make it snow that will stay on the deck for days or even longer and I don’t think it handles that well because it is a water base coating and it may get penetrated. I live in New Orleans so I did not have that problem It held up pretty good. I’m really not sure if they still sell that product because I have not seen it in the stores.
