Love how EA wouldn't release Thrill Kill because all the sex and violence would "hurt our image". Fast forward to Dante's fucking Inferno. You wanna know what the definition of gratuitous sex and violence is?
The marketing for DI (a group of protesters claiming that the game hurt their beliefs who had later turned out to be a bunch of actors hired by the publisher to stir up fake controversy) was even worse, if you ask me.
Oh, it's all part of the bad taste cake thati s EA's Dante's Inferno. Look up the actual commercials for it, specially the Christmas one.

Well, it supposedly was set on Inferno, it had some characters of the book there appearing in roles that made no sense with the book, but aside from that it had nothing to do with the actual Dante's Inferno. I guess we should be thankful they didn't try to do Dante's Paradiso afterwards.

I think Max should've mentioned how the engine was re-tailored for another obscure fighting game that improved the game's mechanics, Wu-Tang Shaolin Style. So, technically the game did come out, just re-skinned by Activision with a license over it.

Yes please go over the Wu-Tang fighting game! I really enjoyed that game the easy fatality system. I also enjoyed fighting through the 36 chambers.

It's _way_ better than the first episode. Informational, educational, shows off every character, the gameplay, mechanics, history, endings, and great research. This is what I was hoping the series would become and I couldn't be happier. He didn't even shit on it cuz "lul Thrill Kill sucks", he gave actual thought to the game.
TBH I liked the first episode a hell of a lot. Probably liked it more than this one, not to say this was bad.

I've noticed a lot of Hellraiser references in this game. The final battle with the devil woman is fought inside the Lament Configuration puzzle box. It's the same design, unchanged.
As a Clive Barker fan, I SO approve of this game! Hell, they have Pinhead fighting that She-Devil IN the Lament Configuration! I actually want this game to be truly released, or a spiritual successor, or SOMETHING that brings it to bloody fruition (without EA, of course). This thing even predates Twisted Metal Black, which had very much the same tone for characters and setting. This thing is right up my freakin' alley!
As for the video, I loved a lot of the editing for Benny! When he perks up his tale at "I'm a Lobster!" was just brilliantly timed! And "Should have moved!" was just adorably cartoonish, heh. Damn good work, Dood!
Well, there's Wu-Tang Shaolin Style, which uses the same engine of Thrill Kill, with better mechanics, more polished graphics, the Wu-Tang rappers and stuff

Is it a rip-off or a shoutout? Midway both made MK and KI back in the 90's -_-. KI 94 and KI 2 arcade units are made by Midway. It is odd that RARE chose an outside company and no less than the makers of MK to do their product unless they wanted to be seen as the next MK at that time.
Just Rev mmm... Nah, rip off. MK was feeling pressure at the time cause it of the gore complaints. That's why in MK3 most fatalities were explosions and burning rather than head rips, heart rips and other more specific dismemberment. it got real corny

Isn't MK already corny before MK3 with all those extra limbs and body parts that appear after certain fatalities especially in Mileena's and Kitana's fatality. They were reusing fatalities eversince MK1 bro, only Kano had an original fatality there (let's just ignore Liu's cartwheel). Raiden, Cage and SZ had decapitations, only done different ways. Same as Sonya and Scorp having immolations.
This was fantastic!!! Please continue making this series I love everything about it.

Same. It made us believe the game was better than it was and we enjoyed it all the more!
I got this after it was canceled, and a game shark. My friends and I had a blast playing it. Thrill kill is still one of my favorite games.

Benny needs to check out the Sega CD version of Eternal Champions.
Seriously. Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side predated Thrill Kill by over 3 years, and it has some of the most superbly-animated, impressively-gorey, wildly-over-the-top fatalities in any game in any generation. Made MK's stuff look absolutely tame by comparison. What I think got Thrill Kill its AO rating isn't the level of violence but the depth of aberration and depravity of its characters.
Bunch of bonkers fighting games from the 90s lost to time. Eternal Champions, Primal Rage, Thrill Kill, and plenty more that Max and others have covered. Nowadays, your fighting game better be e-sports ready first and foremost, and only then after that can you worry about things like spectacle for the sake of spectacle. It's a little sad and constraining in a way.
(Btw, Max and friends played Eternal Champions about 6 months after this video, so any of you who would like to see how all that violence and gore can go check that video out.)
Max, this series was by far one of the most entertaining things that I ever watched on youtube.

Honestly, Thrill Kill is fucking tame.
UmbraKnight for the late 90's, it was pretty outrageous. towards the end of the satanic panic and during the "videogame violence causes terrible harm to all children" part of gaming history.
True, Colombine massacre made violent games late 90s a taboo
but today's standards it's normal. it would be awesome if they remade it.
yea. Even if you translate all the violence, sexuality and gore into modern graphics and presentation, it wouldn't be much worse than MKX and Bayonetta, or even Bloorayne. That said, a remake would be awesome! A little polish to streamline the mechanics, maybe larger arenas, environmental hazards, etc. It could pretty much become a bloody sexy Smash bros (or playstation all stars, since the kill meter system reminds me of the super meter from that one)!
Let's be real, if they remade Thrill Kill with today's graphics, more blood gore and sensuality is going to sell like water, now everyone is like "Fuck it, this world is fucked, I'm going to get a little bit more fucked up than I already am" and to be honest, I don't think that the "New thrill kill" would surpass the shock that "HATRED" brought to the table, you know the super edgy game with the dude that hates everyone and everything and goes out in a fucking massive purge to kill everyone in his path

This is definitely an improvement format wise on the Rise of the Robots episode. I actually liked the (albeit brief) moment you actually tried to "go to the lab" with Thrill Kill to demonstrate some of its mechanical aspects, the counter-counter-counter, the critique about fleeing "kills" and even the shot at combos...even if you did have to resort to using another person's footage, were really neat and definitely unique to typical showcase review (hell even normal review) fare.

Yeah, Mortal Kombat X is great, but not everyone loves gore, dood.
Personally i think gore and T'n'A just makes videogames feel embarrassing.
The obsesion for gore almost killed the genre in the '90...hell, this was a decent game, and got cancelled for all the gratitious gore

Nobody loves gore over substance by any means, which unfortunately was the case with most hardcore games in the 90's. They focused on digitized graphics, trying to look more "Real" and more blood than actual gameplay. That said, Mortal Kombat (especially X) and Killer Instinct are CLASSICS
