      Your advice is solid, but I would have went in a different direction with this particular individual. He is living at home with his parents. There is nothing wrong with that, take some time to get your life back on track, but I do not believe that he should run out and buy a brand new car or even, make payments on a vehicle when he does not even have his own place to live yet. There is nothing wrong with spending one or $2000 on a car. Why not buy something cheap at auction just to get you back-and-forth.?
      Instead of making that $800 a month car payment, save that money in the bank and then move out of your parents house. After you have saved up about $10,000 and you have no other bills pending, then go out and get you a better car. For a couple thousand dollars you can buy a dependable Honda or Toyota. Nothing to look at, but stop trying to impress other people and improve yourself.

    It's tempting, but don't buy a new RT, or any high dollar car, until you get your finances right. A payment on a $50,000 + OTD car is nearly a grand per month, with tier 1 credit at 4.9% from Navy Fed, and that includes nearly $7,000 in interest. With lower credit scores, you will be paying through the nose. Plus, a car is a depreciating asset and you lose money the minute you drive it off the lot, not to mention your insurance is going to be through the roof, which adds to the overall cost of the car. Like OCM said, get your credit straight first and you will not be at the will of the dealerships and banks. Only thing that sucks is they don't make Challengers anymore, but used ones are everywhere and they will continue to drop in price. We have all been there, but it's the decisions you make while in your position that will dictate your financial future. Think with your head, put needs before wants, keep grinding and you will be able to be in control. Good luck.

    Just use your credit card once a month to fill up your gas tank or a grocery visit, then pay it off..do the same thing every month, 6 months, a year later your score will be better for sure! Definitely try and keep your credit card balance to 15% or less of your total available credit!...you get more than that and it can start to hurt your credit score! Just some things ive learned..but really alot of great information and advice given in this video! Keep working hard and dont give up! Always work to get yourself in a better position! If you need something now save up cash and drive something cheap. Like him, I'm in my early 30's, one thing I had to learn (still learning) the hard way is these cars and other depreciating assets are always going to be here. By the time you get that credit right you'll be able to get what you want and possibly by then these rates will be lower and these ridiculous prices on these Dodge vehicles will be cheaper.

      @BrianWaller-qe7gr I heard most banks won't touch challengers and chargers, due to all the defaults, repos, bank loan fraud, Theft, first payment defaults etc etc. Look at who's driving them..

    I think you need to get your credit fixed. Maybe get at least 650 credit score, then try to get the car at decent interest rate. There will be plenty used Challengers for sale for years to come. Don’t get yourself into a loan you can’t afford. Be patient and it will pay off. Good luck

    A little annoyed that there are such big discounts now compared to when I picked up my special ordered ‘23 Scat over a year ago. However, interest rates are much worse and the value of my ‘18 BMW X5 trade in was tanking every month for some reason so I’m money ahead on dumping that. Enjoy the vids, thanks!

    I tell people with no or bad credit, to rent something from a place like rent a center and pay it off within 3 to 6 months. When you pay it off in that time frame you're paying same as cash so there is no interest rate. Once you pay it off you have established positive credit on your credit history.

    people usually focus on the shiny new car and worry about paying for it later (and dealership takes em for a ride)......get the financing figured first then go look for the car
    that car will sink you right now, it will feel good for a short time until reality kicks back in
    fix your credit first bro, I was in your position..
    youll have more leverage and opportunity, plus you can research more on how the process works....
    the cars aint going nowhere, there will be another when your ready and market will probably still be good for buyers
    no way what happened during covid is coming back....

    This situation can’t sustain itself. As of May 29, 2024 one of the biggest Dodge dealers in my state has 83 “new” Challengers and 120 “new” Chargers. I’d say 90% of their inventory are higher trims like Scat Packs and Hellcats. Probably half of those are widebody cars. They even have a few of the special editions. Even some Redeyes. They all have a layer of dust on the interiors in the inventory photos. They’re still priced thousands over MSRP. They’re going to have to do something. I wound up getting a new AMG Mercedes instead of a Redeye last year, but I might pick one up and just daily drive when they have to rock bottom price these things. We’re halfway into the current year and the lots are just full of these cars priced at a premium. In my mind, a car stops being new when it’s last years model and it’s been sitting in an outdoor lot for at least half a year. They’ll have to come waaay off MSRP to get me to buy of these cars. I think middle to late summer will be the time to get a deal. They just have way too many of these things.

    first thing id do is go to bank with that 3k and ask the bank and give yourself a loan on it with in 6mo you could raise your score 150+ if not more in that time then try for a loan on car after score is higher

    You may want to let people know something that I ran into when trying to buy a new Challenger. The "Sale Price" online is not what they will be selling you the car for when you get there. They said the factory rebates you have to qualify for. Meaning if you are not a Vet, EMT, police etc you get non of the rebates for the car.

    We all learn as we go thru it . Get your credit score up in the high 700’s walk in and let them know how YOU are going to make the deal . Don’t go in acting all that . Just knowing you can walk away from a deal because YOU didn’t like the terms is a lot better than walking away because THEY didn’t like the deal .

    Now, if you have bad credit you shouldn't be making a $50K+ purchase at all, & you definitely shouldn't be flying anywhere because it's already painfully clear that you're not getting the loan. Even the salesman told him that he needs a co-signer...

    I remember sitting in a brand new 1971 Ferrari while my Dad was out in the back looking at this piece-o-crap used Fiat. When he came out I begged my Dad to get the Ferrari, as I thought we could buy it. He replied, "Yes, I can buy it, but I can't AFFORD it." And, looking back on it, he was right
    Heavens knows what that Ferrari is worth today.
    But listening to this young man, my impression is that he can't afford the new car even if he did have a good credit score. Yes, he can buy it, but can he afford the gas, insurance, and maintenance costs? Don't get me wrong, I really want him to have the car of his dreams, but only when and if it won't put such a potentially financial and emotional burden on him and his family.
    Which brings up another question to Brad: For those of us on the other end of the life cycle, at which point financially (in your opinion) is it OK to buy the car outright for cash? I'm thinking there would need to be a minimum financial threshold of savings in retirement accounts before a purchase can even be considered, then as more savings is accumulated, the more can be put down on the car to the point where it's paid for the instant it's driven out of the dealership.
    So, hypothetically, is someone had, say $500k in their retirement savings, I"m thinking they really shouldn't buy a new car with anything less than that, and for every $100k more they've saved up in the retirement they could use $10k for each additional $100k saved to buy the car. So this formula means that if they want to buy a car for $60k out the door in cash they need to have the $500k initial savings plus another $600k, for at least $1.1M in the retirement accounts. Then, yeah, I'd think that would be enough as the extra money can still go to work in investments and keep the retirement cash flow liquid for years to come.
    Then their retirement income and Social Security would pay for gas, insurance, and maintenance, so they should be OK.
    But, really, what is the financial point where buying a new car is truly affordable?
    Just curious.
    Thanks.

    • @alanhowitzer
      @alanhowitzer Před 12 dny

      If you have $500k in retirement, you should be able to buy a $50k R/T.

    • @davidrosing5788
      @davidrosing5788 Před 12 dny

      @@alanhowitzer Yes, absolutely one could buy it.
      But with end-of-life care costs being what they are, is that enough to live on to buy the car and still have enough left over after the costs of upkeep and insurance on the car so as not to be thrown out into the poorhouse when the end-of-life costs skyrocket?
      In other words, is that $500k in retirement enough to be able to AFFORD the car?
