    a very nice explanation of how to make the pontoons, I think I will do it your way on my kayak.thnks

  • @WaynJul
    @WaynJul Před 7 lety

    Right you need to be sitting in the kayak on the water to get the right depth. After adjusted to the right depth and
    Without your weight in the kayak the pontoons maybe just above the water line. When you sit in it the pontoons will go down.
    If they are to deep then the pontoons will be holding all the weight of the kayak most of the time.
    Also suggestion about hatches in general. If the screws pull through the plastic on the hatch I suggest using pan head bolts
    with 1/2 NEOPRENE BONDED SEAL WASHERS to cover the entire screw hole for more surface area for the bolt head to grab.

    I love all this that you do. I'll probably never get myself a Kayak as its just too big for me to carry round but love this!
    I was thinking: why not go PVC all the way? You can cut and glue PVC to make it watertight very easily. There are different diameters and you can even get it in sheet format to give the front end a slant so as to make it more hydrodynamic.
    Give it a try and let us know.

    That melting tool was ingenious. You skillfully finessed the radius channels into the two styrofoam halves. Got me thinking that the melting tool itself if it had been a matching diameter, you "might" have been able to melt in single pass. in hindsight, would that have been easier or harder to control?

    I loved the way you made your pontoons and especially the stems for the scotty mounts however I have a slight problem: After gluing everything up I found that the bolt that was holding the stem to the short piece of pvc had not tightened enough to prevent the pontoons from rotating out of position. Did you glue the short piece of pvc to the stem and if so what type of glue did you use?

  • @crackertracker1176
    @crackertracker1176 Před 7 lety

    Marty, As I understand it, silicone can cause damage to the material
    used to make the hull of the kayak. I do know silicone sealer or lubricant can
    cause damage some plastic (HDP) to develop micro cracks around the margins were
    the silicone makes contacts with the plastic. Instead it was recommended to use
    a product called “Lexel” for sealing things that require sealing to HDP
    plastic. Unsure if you are interested in the Lexel however I thought I would
    forward the information to you and let you decide. I have a link to a YT channel
    where someone was using Lexel on a kayak equipment install. If you are interested in the link I would be
    happy to forward it to you. Regards, Jay…
