I really like how you pointed out how overlooked this weapon is. People need to pay WAY more attention to its almost endless uses and abilities.
Bought the M48 Tactical for my bugout bag. Great tool.
Also people, you can tighten the cord around the handle to give you some slack (and keep it from slipping off, which it WILL do out of the box) so you can clip the bottom of it to one of the holes near the axe blade. It creates a nice bit of support to prevent droppage.
I'm pretty sure Skallagrim broke one of these while chopping wood. And before anyone asks, yes he knows how to properly wield an axe. If you ask me, an axe that breaks from chopping trees is not very good for "survival"

Guys, of course zombies aren't real. These guys know that. They're spending money and time to show us the effectiveness of different tools and weapons if they were used in a hypothetical apocalypse scenario, like a zombie outbreak.
Seriously, it's nothing more than an entertaining and interesting joke that they're sharing with us, and I think we need to appreciate it a little more.
More personally, I would question the intelligence of the people trying to call these people "stupid." Honestly, your type should stop and take a close look at yourself, and THEN decide who deserves those insults.

I would point out, the ACTUAL difference between a hatchet and a tomahawk is the hatchets primary purpose is wood processing and a tomahawks primary purpose is for fighting.
I have both tomahawks and hatchets and ALL of my axes are shaving sharp, and further to the point both my Gransfors Bruks hatchets (Wilderness hatchet and small forest axe) came wickedly shaving sharp right from the factory.
Yes. Tomahawks and hatchets are both axes, so are some polearms. But all axes have different purposes.

If it'll cut straight through the skull, or make a decapitation, then it'll most likely take off a leg.
Justin Vasquez if youre gonna take a leg off, the ideal spot would be at the knee, where the thigh and calf bones meet, but not touch. i'm sure the knee wouldn't stop a sharp blade

The problem with that is that incapacitating a zombie would take energy, giving you less power in your double tap.
It's not always about killing the zombie, sometimes youre on the run and going on a killing spree on your way out takes absolutely too much time. Poke in the head with a bat, or slice a foot on the run, much more efficient during a retreat
I don't know why you've called it a "BudK M48 Tomahawk". It's a United Cutlery M48 Hawk. I have one of these. Even though they call it "Hawk", United Cutlery make no claim of it being a tomahawk. It's a tactical hatchet with a spike on one side. They're, apparently, used by some military forces as a breaching tool and as a defence weapon.
Isn't trying to seperate the difference between a tactical hatchet and a tomahawk just semantics? They are both basically the same thing.
Not really. I know what it's called because I have one. Plus a tomahawk is a hand-made device usually using stones, not something manufactured out of steel.

One of the first things I noticed. Would have been awesome if forged from a solid piece of steel with a crow bar claw on the other end to use as a breaching tool.

Showing people a Tomahawk and how sharp it is, cool. Trying to show people weapon fighting... Just going to get someone killed in a bad situation probably including yourself as it was horrible advice. Real life isn't a movie. Your videos are entertaining but I'm fairly certain your whole crew would die very quick in any SHTF situation. It's not about the cool factor, it's Logistics, Training, and Preparation.

To anyone who can't decide on this tomahawk: GET IT! I mainly got it for throwing, but it is ridiculously durable. Trust me, you won't break it. It's weighted perfectly. I have not one negative thing to say about it. I've also replaced my camping axe with one of these instead. Not only all that, but it's really is just badass looking, very intimidating.

You've got some...interesting ideas about how sharp machetes and axes should or shouldn't be. If you want to be able to cut grass or brush with a machete, you want it "blade sharp". If you want to be able to carve with an axe, you want it "blade sharp". This idea that they cut through impact and brute force alone boggles my mind.

Just watching the tools in action is nice and all, but I've got to say, my girlfriend got me one of the standard M48 tomahawks from BudK this past father's day and I'm highly impressed.

as for breaching into a car, the bottom part of the blade can be used as a "can opener" if you hook it in and pull up on the handle

My girlfriend got me the tactical version 2 years ago, it feels really good in the hand and splits a deer pelvis like a charm.

Problem is, since it's not full tang, throwing it too much can break it very easily. A lot of the negative reviews on Budk say it broke while throwing it. It's not supposed to be thrown though, so it's not reeaaally a flaw in the design or anything.

That hole in the car roof is small, you would have to work for at least ten minutes just to get halfway there, not to mention any nearby zombies. However, if you've barricaded all the entrances really well and there is a car full of supplies you can't get into, you've bought yourself enough time to hack through the roof, except why go to all the trouble when you could just break one of the windows, even the windshield, and crawl in and out. I's more efficient and saves time.
That's why this would make a good Melee weapon to keep on your belt. Your Primary being a rilfe/Shot gun/SMG. Your secondary something silent. Like a pistol with a suppressor or a crossbow .

You guys are friggin amazing, i would suggest (when it's purchasable) the m48 Kommando survival axe you can find it already on budk, and i would love to see it shatter some skulls. i do realize it's pretty much a bigger version of the tomahawk i still think it would be fun. please tell me if you decide to do this :)

so i bought one after seeing this video. the friggen steel was cut in half between the 2nd and 3rd rivets. although it was depressing, they sent me a new one free of charge. for the price, its an alright buy. i like it.

The throwing part about tomahawks is a side bonus.
But admittedly, in warfare, they'd not go up close and personal with an axe, I doubt anyone would really.

It IS a great defensive/offensive tool. But as mentioned "..used by the military". I don't think any civilian can use them for "self-defence" and justify it to the judge and the LEO. At least in most cities as far as I'm aware.

for the zombie apocalypse im so usin' a viking bearded axe with 3 foot handle, easy to use not that heavy and you can swing it all day without difficulties

Cold Steel rules my friend! They do make one that is a VietNam replica, so it's not as flashy but looks very authentic!

they don't actually THINK there's going to be one. it's about being prepared. if you're prepared enough for a zombie apocalypse, you're ready for anything that comes your way! :)
It's actually pretty useful but it won't last long. If you want to go on the cheap and still get longevity, look into Cold Steel. I'd recommend the Cold Steel vietnam tomahawk.
