I'd like for you guys to test the actual sog battleaxe (it says "SOG" on the flat) got this over the double-headed axe mainly due to a shortage of cash but I gotta say, it is an AMAZING weapon. I bet it'd handle the test of the battle axe just as well if not better.
PS: Katana specialists probably shouldn't be considered experts on axe-fighting, HUGE differences

(also the cold steel viking axe and m48 full size axe are the best for "zombie go boom" style combat, same with the Condor Double Axe, the Sog battleaxe, NOT the tomahawk, and this!)
if you want the ULTIMATE in fighting axes, try the Fox (as in the Fox 479 which is the ultimate pocket knife for killing anything) but it uses n690Co steel and is called the Fox Comanche, probably the best production fighting axes out there.
the cheaper alternative is Boker's Maxvenom axe.

That axe was made of 420 steel. Also, he described the axe as " super heavy", so for what reason could they not give it a longer handle?

That's a WAR axe. War axes are smaller and lighter than battle axes. During a battle, there's less men, so a larger weapon will clear out more of the men to end it quickly and not as much resources are used to create the weapons. During a full out war, you send more men out, so you give them smaller and lighter weapons to maximize production and consume less resources. In a battle, a one handed could be just as effective, but it's not too quick to kill therefore taking more time. In a full out war, a two handed will probably get you killed or injured before you even swing. It's not too easy to go helicopter mode with the battle axe cause you need room around you. The names are easily confused though. The names are like bacon and cookie. You cook bacon (BAKE-on) and bake cookies (COOKies), which is kinda weird.

double headed axes were only used to chop wood not to fight... they are to unbalanced. but on the pro side: If one side gets dull you just have to turn them to get a sharp one.^^

Yeah, it's techincally wood and it's flexible. I shot 5 pieces of paper with an airsoft handgun, it ripped all layers completely.

The extra 2mm would then dent the skull in and give brain damage. 7% of surviving and falling unconscious 3% of that + losing memories (depends where hit), 90% chance of brain damage severing the frontal lobe and dying a brutal death.
Yeah that hobby. Store one is not going to last. However,if the blade breaks at handle like they usually do, you can improvise a weapon with the rest of the blade and give it a full tang. It will be shorter but definitely more durable

i got a real steel katana from a antique shop in atlanta for only 69 bucks... No rivets, no Screws, has pegs to keep the blade in place of the tsuka (Handle) and it was pretty sharp when i took it out the saya. ;D
I do not question the quality of SOG butt, you can kill with any axe, it does not matter if it is a clean cut or not. The weight of the axe is what does the damage, not how sharp it is. That is also the reason why it is effective against an enemy wearing chainmail or body armour, if it does not cut through it will break bones! That is why the vikings and other barbarians used it as a weapon, it is also easier to manufactor than a sword.

Use anything made by SOG and then say that. Comparing "any axe" (your mind = any piece of crap) to a SOG axe, is like comparing a stuffed animal to a chainsaw.
You should make an official ZGB kit of weapons and weapon guide id buy that in a heart beat.
I think it it's smarter to test a Fire Axe instead of the SOG double-headed axe, because it's not easy to come by the battle axe. However, I've seen about 15-20 fire axes in the local department store. And you should try the small axes as well. I threw a few of the small ones myself. Whilst being unbalanced, it can hit really hard if you manage to throw it correctly.

@Christian moody; Your looking upwards of $390 that's entry price for live blades, a real one can cost anywhere up to a couple thousand dollars, no point in getting one though if you aren't trained or are training in its correct use.

Some katanas for 50 dollars actually work. I bought one from united cutlery and with some sharpening, I played some fruit ninja in my backyard. I also was able to cut through the 2 liter bottles in the video

Yeah, a human skull is about 6-8mm strong, depends on where and on the person.
+Dillon Bluntsworth First off, you can tell when someone is weak when they don't let people reply. Secondly, katana's are, in my opinion, the best melee weapon one could own. Secondly, there are plenty of reasons to purchase a katana, as the ancient practice of sword play is becoming more and more popular.

@ZombieGoBoomTV Can you see if a crowbar is a good weapon to use. For survival sake it can open doors that are locked.
If there was a real zombie breakout, you would just grab anything you could get your hands on in fear, a crappy weapon is better than no weapon

if you ever in zombie apoc find tools like stone drill etc. try to find a cinder block, steel pipe (very tough and somehow put the block to the pipe making a hammer brutal bone crushing hand held splatter device may be heavy to handle

I think its denser than the human skull (whatever kind of composite material its made from) so if it were as thick it'd be too strong, this thickness with its strength is more accurate (this is all just speculation though, for all I know the thing is made of cheap plastic).

I love the axe as a weapon. Just any axe will do the job, so there is no point in buying an expensive axe like that.

Try a metal wire coathanger..... You can shape ot in anyway to make it lethaler.
Indeed, the artisan swords of yesteryear were excellent tools for killing but modern mono steels are invariably stronger because they are of exacting strength through out the whole sword. Why showing those to an ancient blacksmith would make him weep, because they were innovators and forward thinkers (at least in the west, near east and most of asia).

Its S.O.G NOT sog. S.O.G stands for special operations group. This means that the weapons are made to the standards of special ops teams in the military like the navy seals.
My main question about an axe is whether or not it would get stuck in the skull. I mean sure, the zombie I hit would be dead, but an axe with a dead body stuck on one end wouldn't do much good.

@wingzero7X The katana is sort of a "Jack of all trades" type of sword. There are swords better for slashing(sabers), swords better for piercing(arming swords), swords that are more maneuverable(rapiers), swords with better reach(longswords); but there are few that bring together the whole package as effectively as the katana. May not be ideal for every person in every situation, but it'll work for most people, most of the time.

Ballistic knives are real they were used by the Spetsbaz for some missions.
