    Working too slow means running out of time and potential lost questions, working too fast means rushing and again potential lost points.

    This is great. Time has always been a big problem for me during practice. I believe in the end I have easier questions I can answer but I ended just guessing them because of time. Thank you

    I use a mental timing strategy similar to this for my science sections but find it a little difficult with CARS. It feels like cars passages give you just enough time where science sections have more "give" do to the ability to answer some questions quickly based solely off outside knowledge. Whereas I can adjust my pace with science passages if I am too slow or quick, cars seems to be a tricky one in that case. Appreciate the pacing breakdown! I am a big advocate for discrete first, then passages. Do it every time with a good result!

      Yes, I love that you already have your timing down with your exam so close. Just a bit more practice and you're all set!! You've got this :)

    Definitely going to try this on my practice exam on friday. thank you!

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  Před 5 lety +2

      Please try this with a practice section prior to Friday so that you get a feel for it. Ideally never try anything new on a full length because while this WILL help when you've mastered it, it will distract you on your full length when you're still getting used to it. Try a section test today and tomorrow first? Or even just 3-5 passages with the appropriate # of minutes remaining

      Leah4sciMCAT good idea. Going to try to hammer this technique in my cars passage study today as well thank you Leah 😊

    This is so helpful! Is the timing per passage the same even with the new MCAT being shorter?

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  Před 4 lety

      Glad it's helped! The AAMC hasn't confirmed if they removed passage based or discrete questions, this means we don't know if you'll need more time for reading or answering. I reached out and they gave me a non-answer. Sorry I can't be more helpful with this.

    What is the easiest way to find the discrete questions first? Go to navigation and take a guess or just click through? Start at the end and click backwards? Any tips or tricks?

      I have the same question

    • @daniellebornhorst8282
      @daniellebornhorst8282 Před 4 lety +1

      @@tz6706 I took the MCAT on June 5th. During practice tests, I found it easiest to start at the last question and move backwards to answer the discretes first and then used 8 minutes per passage starting at 64 minutes. One thing I did notice during the real thing though was that flipping through each question was MUCH SLOWER. There is a delay with the real MCAT compared to the practice tests.

    • @tz6706
      @tz6706 Před 4 lety

      Danielle Bornhorst Hey, thank you so much :). I appreciare the tip. Would you say that the entire content is covered in the qpacks and section banks?

    • @daniellebornhorst8282
      @daniellebornhorst8282 Před 4 lety

      @@tz6706 I felt the qbanks were much more difficult than the actual test. I also thought the CARS section banks were much more main idea focused whereas the practice test and real thing asked more details that required going back to the passage. The real test felt a little different than all of the practice questions/FL's but I think if you do the sections banks, qbanks, and practice full lengths you'll be in a good position to do well on the real thing. I haven't gotten my score back yet so it's too soon to tell for me. Best of luck!!

    How are you finding the discretes without wasting time searching for them?

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  Před 3 lety

      It should be fairly easy to spot those questions that are not passage-based. Look for short prompts. However, if you find yourself spending TOO much time searching for them, move on by all means! No need to waste time unnecessarily.
