In this video you’ll learn all about Fischer projections including what they are, how to read them, how to quickly draw and convert 3D molecules into Fischer projection and back without ever having to build a model kit.
You’ll learn a number of different methods for converting 3D to Fischer from small molecules containing a single chiral center, to complex molecules like D-Glucose containing multiple chiral centers.
You’ll also learn what happens when you rotate a Fischer Projection 90 and 180 degrees.

Thank you so much for all the videos you do. Quick question for you, does Khan academy still have the 300pg PS document? I can’t seem to find it
I love it! single-handedly saving lives here !!
I needed this so bad, thank you Leah! I have been struggling the last few months studying full time for this exam to only have plateau and not improve with my FL exams. I have taken 4 full length AAMC exams and have practiced CARS, went through Kaplan, and did a bit of Anki. I think my issue is trying to do a lot in a little bit and I don’t get the most out of my studying-surface level learning(exposure) is not enough for me, and I recognize that now. I need time and probably have to go about using my resources in a consistent and effective way. You will always be a core part of my college education and journey to becoming a doctor.
thank you. I really needed this.
Wow❤❤❤ im from chile i'm studying nursing i've always accomplished with chemistry, but you saved meee 😭😭😭😭 thank you very much!!!!!
I’m prepping for McAT and the math is just kicking my behind. I’m currently going through your MCAT videos. I am so so grateful for you!
Aww you are so very welcome! Make sure to check out this recent video czcams.com/video/b_1LwWcBb-Q/video.html I also have many math resources at leah4sci.com/MCATmath
A very useful video!
Glad you liked it!
True!! I really wish I knew this
Happy to help!
Re 6:26: Would 8.5 be close enough, Leah? I'm using these as my values (I've already memorized them, but I could memorize more specific values if you think it's necessary): Carboxyl: 2 D = 4 E = 4 H = 6 C = 8 Y = 10 K = 11 R = 12 Amino = 9 Thank you!!
Thank you for the video. In general what types of doctors do your students seek out to confirm their accommodations with the MCAT board?
Great video. The left/right eye method is one in which I will never understand. I'm sticking with the R/S guess/check method
I don't think the virus pushes at all....lol To push means it has some energy but that is not it You would have to learn about clathrins and stop saying push. It is almost like a lock and key system with the virus and if the receptors on the host match with the those on the viral particles, the cell takes the virion in via endocytosis(rme).
I was really scared abt maths in the med exam thks for these it’s so cool - Do more!!!!! 🌺
So glad you like it! Have you seen this? leah4sci.com/mcat/mcat-math-without-a-calculator/
Thank you so much ❤️
You’re welcome 😊
Hi! Around 9:00 into this video, why won’t H2O do nucleophilic attack into the imine on the right (where N has positive charge with 4 bonds total)? Why does O in OH group have to form double bond with the carbon and kick out C-N pi bond to the nitrogen for H2O to then attack the carbonyl Carbon? Is it because C=O+ makes electrophilic carbon more electrophilic than C=N+?? Thank you!
Thanks. I tookn't chem in high school or college and known't much of anything about it. I'm preparing to startify initiating commencement of beginnification of learning it.
you're so welcome!

Sending hugs, you CAN reach for your dreams!
😮😮😮
??
Just to check if I got that right haha Basically, in here, the (-) side of the cell is giving electrons to the +ions by the cathode, and the (+) side is receiving electrons from the -ions by the anode. The cathode is reducing ions, and the anode oxidizing them. In the galvanic cell, the cathode is still reducing, but it's reducing what exactly, the anode? So, the metal in the cathode goes to the ion form, getting itself oxidized while reducing the anode, which is oxidizing the cathode while reducing the +ions in the other solution? I am a bit lost in this one Is everything right?
I'm working on a comparison video that goes into detail about the differences. I hope to have it out in a few days
@@Leah4sciMCAT Already got my exam haha but thanks, I will check it
are we supposed to convert g to kg? or can we use g in this case?
If you're working through calculations, you have to make sure units are consistent. If you're dealing with two different units for weight you have to convert one to the other
Whattttt i dont understand 😭😭😭 amd my test is tomorrow 😭😭
I'm sorry you weren't understanding! How do you feel about your exam?
🔥 Thank you.
you're welcome!
I want to cries everytime I study for the MCAT. I swear I can feel physical pain looking at these 😢
I'm so sorry to hear that! Have you checked out the resources on leah4sci.com/mcat? I want to help you reach your MCAT goal
Why is the carbonyl and H in the wrong place at 10:30? Why are you swapping?
Correct form for a Fischer projection is to have the main carbon chain along the vertical backbone of the structure. That means, by convention, the carbonyl carbon should be on the vertical line and not the horizontal. One swap of the carbonyl and hydrogen changes this to follow convention, but then we have to do the second swap to maintain the R configuration of alanine.
@@Leah4sciMCAT thank you for taking the time to explain :)
2:58 how to decide, which carbon to rotate?
When we talk about rotation, we're talking about rotating a carbon to carbon BOND. You could think of it as making the substituents on both carbons face in the same direction. So it's really a matter of perspective. Do you want to draw your Fischer projection by looking at the molecule from below? Then, rotate so that the substituents on both carbons are facing down. Or, do you want to draw your Fischer by looking at the molecule from above? Then, rotate so that the substituents on both carbons are facing up.
I don't want to know where Mr. Organic Chemistry wears his second bow tie. I knew he was a perv. 😂
😆🤦 on his neck? on the first button of his shirt?
your math videos for the MCAT are super helpful
So glad you're finding them helpful
omg this video is so good.
Thank you! Hope this clarifies everything for you
Aspartic acid's mnemonic was a total jumpscare
Haha oh?
Thank you so much mam
You're so welcome 😊
Really helpful ❤
Glad it was helpful!
this was sooo helpful thank you so much!!! just a quick question i was wondering if there's a way to do inverse of sin, cos and tan? or if there's a video already up i can watch?
I don't have a video on it. I try to look at the numbers and bring it close to something I can reason backwards using the tricks I share here
Thx u so much! ❤
