Hi I have been asked a few times to show you how and what i use to colour my hair at home. This is a semi tutorial, I give you bits of advice and show you what I do. I used to be a hairdresser many years ago however, colouring my own hair is completely different to how I would colour a clients hair haha....I'm more 'slap dash' these days! Hi, I've been thinking for a good few months about going this colour.. I think it's a good warm colour as I'm quite pale.. I was just wondering if I could possibly ask you, I've got a dark red on at the moment which I have some awful grey roots coming through.. I love this colour, when I was much younger I always put henna on my hair and absolutely adored it. I am so so tempted to try this colour it’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing x
I actually found it super helpful having you so close to the camera! I'm trying to lighten my hair that was naturally ginger decades ago but years of henna kinda of darkened it, so I put a golden blonde over the top and got a lovely vibrant copper but some of it is style a bit too burgundy or brownish. I didn't really do my roots to avoid having mismatched hair but did a quick 10 mins at the end. So my grey patches aren't really fixed yet.Trying to decide if I wait til I get regrowth or just hit it up with a ginger dye, but I want my mids and ends to get lighter still, so taking my time to decide. Your ginger vids are super helpful in my choice!

Wow the result is great!! It looks still natural and I think this would be my go to if I have to top up my roots and don’t have time. You look stunning with red hair! I’m so afraid to use hair dye because I normally use pure henna mixed with a lot of conditioner in a sort of “mask”, but it doesn’t really cover my roots neatly.

Aw thank you hun, im impressed that you haven't dyed your hair in so long, i wish i didn't dye mine as much as my hair is not great to hormone issues and not dying would help it but i cant stand the grey roots on me haha...vain i know!!! Glad you enjoyed this video : ) xxx
Oh, thank you!! I get a lot of flack from friends and some old co-workers (especially when I was in my late 20s and 30s), but I'm SOOOO thankful that grey hair is in style now! I often get asked by younger folks if I dye my hair, and they're surprised it's natural. One of the reasons I chose to stop dying at 25 was also due to thinning hair related to hormone issues. My hair thinned out A LOT and even though it's fluffy because it's curly, it's quite thin. Plus, naturally curly hair is always more fragile, so i decided to try to keep it as natural as possible (with the exception of daily hair products to keep the curls under control). I often look at all of the pretty hair dye colors and want to take the leap, but I cant commit to something to permanent!! You do look gorgeous with that color, it compliments your skin and eyes so well!!
Sparkling Silver Curls thank you , I do like being a ginger colour. Yes grey hair is so 'in' at the moment haha you could add a semi permanent colour on your hair one that only lasts 6-8 washes and doesn't contain peroxide. They won't damage your hair at all. Xxx
Hi, I love your video's! Not sure if you will see this as it's an old video, but I have dark brown hair (also going grey) and wanted to go this colour, but it just dyed my roots, didn't take on the rest as is so dark. What would you suggest I use on the ends to lighten it so it would take? Many thanks

Jenny Q ah haha aw I hate the grey coming through mine, i wish I didn’t but, I’ve always dyed my hair so anything natural is alien to me haha I usually go from copper to black to blonde to copper again... been like that for 20 odd years but I’ve stayed this colour for around 7yrs now which for me is a sign I’m less impulsive 😂 I’m getting older 😂 I really love copper ginger reds and I’ll be doing another hair colour video near the summer as I tend to go lighter then. My mom was like that too. We never knew what color her hair would be next! She dyed her hair red once but my dad made her change it because she was getting lots of compliments and people would say "Well we know who your kids got their red hair from now" and my dad got mad because he's Irish and the red hair was from him. My mom was a 6ft. tall and a natural blonde! Must be nice, right? This is probably a dopey thing to do, but if you pray at all, would you please pray for my cat, Thumbelina? All of a sudden a few days ago she started having trouble walking and having tremors. We took her to the vet today and 2 vets looked at her and didn't know what was wrong. She's only 4 years old and an indoor cat so she couldn't have caught something from another cat. I've been crying for 2 days and I don't know what I'd do without her. Please say a prayer for her, I love her so much! And thank you for reading all of this - I really appreciate it

I'm 42 and the grey is a problem for me as well. I am colouring my hair today too! I love dark auburn hair. I use an Argon oil color from our Sally's Beauty's supply. It's a wonderful color and make my hair so soft! Love your color! Here's to a forty something's hair struggles!

I love the colour you suit it so much. I am a natural red head and have always disliked it more so due to being bullied for being a red head I have been dying my hair blonde and some brown. Sometimes I think of going back to my normal ginger but I haven't. Brill video and it suits you a lot x
Aw being bullied for your hair colour is so wrong, and yes being a red head has always had a stigma attached to it. But, my friend Emily has natural ginger hair and she gets stopped all the time by people saying how beautiful her hair is. Its a school thing but so wrong. Thank you hun xxx

Well done Claire dying your hair on you tube. The old way is best 😊My mum was a hairdresser & taught both my sister & I. I find using the conditioner helps get the colour off skin. I used to use permanent vibrant red, but as you said it fades so fast & doesn't look so nice mixed with grey. Since I had it cut & bleached last May I use the live blue & mix a bit of that with the purple punk & find it stays in longer than the red & when it fades a little {I use blue shampoo to help keep colour} it doesn't look so bad. Altho I hate going to parents evening etc; cz I feel really conscious, I'm not one of these mums that dresses her age {no mini skirts or anything lol 😂 but my kids say I look 'sick - apparently that's a compliment lol}. They hate my ex husband going cz he doesn't dress fashionably - I've tried but he's stuck in his ways lol. I'm 52 in 3 months & I don't think I'll ever change cz I was always outrageous as a teen. Sorry for rambling on. Your colour is lovely xxx

Yeah reds are a pain but thankfully I think I've found a good one that fades naturally without looking washed out. Hun Castings by L'Oréal have a 6.45 Amber saw it in testosterone yesterday is this the same colour have ya tried it. Now that's a video that would get tonnes of views. The number of ladies here in Ireland who use castings would shock ya. Wishing you a great weekend ❤
I've bought it a few times but have never used it and given it away because i've read the copper shade comes out way too dark and more red which i steer away from. My daughter used a dark brown Castings a few months ago and she has black hair no and it didn't fade! I'm too scared to use it sorry xx

Yes it depends on your skin tone and also if you wear make up or not. I have a fair neutral skin tone and i find when i go blonde i need to cut back on my make up as it looks too much. With Black hair i need more make up, mainly my eyebrows really and with red i find i can get away with more of less make up. I think theres some apps you can download that you can upload your photo and then see what you would look like with black hair etc, could be fun : ) xxx
I recently used this dye because of your video and it turned my already ginger hair brown!! (A slightly red brown) they must have changed the formula, posting this as a warning to other redheads ⚠️
Ahh how awful!!! This actual dye is discontinued 😩 but I’m wondering if you bought the 6.45 you can get in the shops I think it’s L’Oreal preference so same brand same colour number but looks darker??!! I e bought it but too scared to apply it as I don’t want to lose my brightness. Xx

No i haven't but not because i haven't wanted to but, its because you really need natural hair to apply it or hair previously dyed with henna....ive been dying my hair since i was 12yrs old...my hair hasn't ever been natural enough for me to try Henna haha. Looks gorgeous though. xxx

It really is a gorgeous colour Claire. :-) I have been dyeing my hair for years now and I use a Garnier Belle colour - dark ash blonde. It was the nearest to my natural hair colour I could find. It's quite grey now though. Do you think this sort of red colour would take if I tried to change from the Dark blonde? xxx
Yes it would take well, the ash in your dyed colour will slightly counteract the orange/red tones in the new colour but if not the same colour match on first application, it would become more true on second application im sure. Its hard to say exactly but you could do a strand test first to see what it would turn out like. Grab a section of hair, just a few strands from the back of your head and dye that as you would your hair, well worth doing if your not too sure about a colour. Ive been dying my hair ginger/copper for a good few years now so colour takes really well. xxx

I looked up this brand and it seems next to impossible to get in the US. My color would be 6.60...but what good unless I can access? 😪 At this point, I buy my color online from a shop called "eSalon". The color is created just for you, but it is quite expensive at $27.40 a pop, so I keep looking for alternatives.
Ooh that is expensive but i like the concept of making a personalized colour. Yes unfortunately its quite hard to find here in the UK the colour i use, but thankfully, for now, i can buy it online from Amazon. Good luck in searching xxx
Claire, thanks...I will keep on looking. But as far as personalized color goes: yes, it's quite good. You can speak to a color rep, send in pix too if you like and through a series of questions, they come up with a color just for you. At that point, if you approve the color, that 'recipe' is computerized and saved, so you can come back in a couple of years and the color will still be there. BTW, their color is fabulous and their Customer Service is quite responsive, so overall it's a great service,...but the only problem is the price.

Why aren't you using products from the salon .every hair stylist I talk too says box dyes aren't a good idea for your hair so I don't use them and even go to Sally's or ulta for hair needs
I am a trained qualified hairdresser. Box dyes have changed so much over the years and I am conscious of what I put on my hair and do far, I have not had any issues. I dye my hair at home as it’s cheaper for me xx
