I'm about to dye my hair green tomorrow. I've never dyed it, never used bleach (I'm getting it done professionally!!) and it's totally an afterthought as to if it'll suit me. I have pale olive skin with pink undertones. Kind of a mess! Very difficult to decide what works best but I think I tend to do a little better with cool tones but not too dark or too light.

I could be wrong but I think hes meaning do you tan easily or do you just burn....when in the sun..because pale isn't always pale. I'm pale most of the time but if I go out in the sun even for a bit I'm tan the next day...some people of equal paleness could go out and just be burnt the next day...and people who have skin that "tans easily" is usually olive toned

Whether you have dark skin or not you should still be able to tell your undertones, if you can't see your veins then go out into natural light (not too dim not too bright, just natural) and see if you can have someone tell. Or just look at your arms closely. If you still can't tell if your skin has a warm or cool bias, it is likely neutral.

2 yrs later and this comes across my interest AFTER buying a blue wig that I just got yesterday, chopped my natural blue-shined jet black hair to short 2 days earlier, I came to the decision from this video that I'm neutral cool. I've always worn silver jewelry a lot over the - well since who knows how long-, rather than golds. And well what do you know: I've always drawn myself to pastel blues, pinks, and purples my whole entire life! 😅 and I'm also wearing a dark purple/red violet eyeglass, where my previous one was a solid purple....and no wonder I never liked the bright, loud yellows. 😅 I've always liked neutral and dark palettes to anything, too. Pastel over neons any day!
EDIT: I forgot to say that I'm a HUGE winter and fall season kind of gal! So that also explains a lot, too!!!!

I have a warm skin tone, with most undertones being orange. This video made me not only understand why I always want to paint my hair red/orange/caramel/blond highlights (I did them all), but it also made me understand why some clothes don’t flatter me. I get the joke but black people technically still tan because you get darker in the summer time and get lighter during the winter.
@@clare5688 Regardless of warm or cool tones pretty much ALL Black people across ALL our skin tones get darker or lighter depending on season and sun exposure, so the "tan easily" thing doesn't help at all. That's the point she was making. Melanin helps you tan easier and we have a lot of it so ability to tan without burning is irrelevant to us for figuring out warm or cool tones.

I think Brad's explanation is really confusing. Autumn is way more warm-colored season than summer (compare autumn foliage and white-bright sunny summer day). When we talk about color palettes the people with true autumn or the true spring color palette have warm skin tone. People with the true winter or the true summer color palette have cool skin tone.

My entire life it’s always been so hard finding things that compliment my skin tone. Make-up, clothes, etc etc. hair color has also been difficult. I havnt dyed my hair in over 8 years, but I’m still curious what tones would suit olive skin from pale olive, to rich deep olive skin with that grayish-green cast. Which blondes, brunettes and reds would go best?? Tan means does your skin darken if exposed to sunlight... tanning only happens in response to damage. My skin darkens easily and dramatically because i dont have as much pigment as my darker siblings who dont tan as much. We're all "black", that's not the point.
