Gotta say here, love the video BUT there are warm and cool toned versions OF all these colors! There are warm and cool pinks (for instance). So if you reaaallly want that purple with very warm skin.. get a warm based purple! something with more red than blue
This!! Only colour thats never warm undertoned is blue lol
I was just about to say that, and also, depending on how cool or warm your skin is, pastel or really saturated colors can look better/not so good. For instance, he is mentioning red hair looks good on warm skin, but a really vibrant and pure red will look AMAZING on a cool skin tone.
@@cloudeia6894 You can actually find some "warm" blue like a warm teal blue.
My skin is more on the neutral warm tone side, but I have rosacea, so some colors clash with it and make it look worse (such as some pinks, reds and burgundy). Although I love ash/dusty colors most look wrong with my skin tone (I bought some wigs to test some colors out), so I have to be careful. After hours and hours browsing hair colors online or on Pinterest, I've found some nice and warmer versions of all colors: grey, blond, brown, red, pink, green, teal, blue, etc. ^^
@@barbaraguastavino yes! I’m very neutral but sometimes lean warm (in summer). Overall, cool colors w warm undertones look best on me! Warm with warm look terrible. Cool cool washes me out.. I learned this the hard way (and in art class 😅)
@@coralie288 right like royal blue is considered a warm toned blue
Brad, you get me through severe anxiety attacks and depression. It’s not all about hair, you do a lot more for some of us. We love you.
Keep well Bill, I feel you hun ❤️🩹❤️🇬🇧
Literally clicked on this video to help me stop crying after being completely overwhelmed at work today. Thank you Brad 💞
me too !
I’m so glad you’re still here!
Me too, I am under treatment for having severe depression and anxiety, Brad spread positivity and warmth
I like to ignore skin tone matching. From my tweens i was always been told i should wear cool colors, silver etc, and when I was young it made me shy away from warm colors even though I love them. I don't care now, I wear gold jewelry when I want, orange or yellow or red clothes, because it makes me happy. Follow your heart, whether it is matching or not matching :)
Yeah I agree! I have warm tone skin but I love cool tone hair. I don’t care what anyone says
For sure. But finding out what compliments your natural tones is really helpful for people like me who often end up looking "off" wearing certain colors that look better on other people, wondering why it doesn’t seem to suit me as well as them. Mismatching colors and tone is definitely not world ending, but it’s good to have that guidance for peeps who want it
As a professional hair colorist & educator still I’m here in this video ❤️ oh it takes me back to when I represented Paul Mitchell as a color educator 15 + years ago ( damn I’m getting old) .. it used a silver small pillow and a gold one to show my clients in the mirror what suits them best … & some really thought I was insane 🤭 this was the time when we didn’t have all this great social media & so much knowledge of skin tones ect… Great video ! Always enjoy ur content Brad. Greeting from Sweden! We all love u! I wish the trend of the bolder colors come here more but a girl can dream .
When I was a preteen in the 80s (damn I'm getting old) my grandma signed me up for a class at a community college to learn this.
Years later I tell the jeweler, "I don't wear yellow gold, I'm a Summer" and he was so flabbergasted and annoyed with me. "Who told you not to wear gold? Gold is for everyone!!" 😂
@@TK-ij2xi 🤭😂😂 u made me laugh so good thank u! Well ofc he said the gold is for everyone , he is selling it .. u made a good reply to them though ! U should have brought a chart with u to show them .. gimme that silver !
Don't avoid the cold, Brad. You get to put together so many cute winter outfits that just don't work for any other time of year. Fall/winter outfits are a different kind of vibe ❄❄️❄️❤️❤️❤️☃️
Agreed!!!
Lol I agree with Brad I'd rather avoid going outside in the cold. Period. Fck fashion lol
@@auroraxxfacekilla49 me too. Well, not f fashion - just f the cold for me. Warm weather all year or bust!
Weirdly, the older I get, the more I love the cold. I think I'm HOT blooded. lol
Layering is the best!
Every color comes in all three undertones and different saturation/intensities though. I'm a high saturation warm tone, so soft pale yellows no matter how warm don't look good on me at all. Deep bright yellows do look good though. Pastel blues and purples also look good on me as long as they lean warm, because contrast does work as long as there is enough to look purposeful.
In my opinion in the first photos of Kylie, I think the pink hair is a warm toned pink an the green a cool toned green. I also think her skin tone is neutral-warm and that’s why her hot pink warm toned hair works better on her. (I’m an artist btw)
Agreed
Agreed. Love Brad but he got so much wrong in this video
Neutral-fake tan. Dont forget how she looked as a kid.
Agreed!
@@alysialip70 men and women actually see color differently. that might be the difference here.
I remember back in the late 80s the big thing was to find out what your season was. It was the same thing, warm vs cool and in that case pastels vs deeper colors. You could even buy makeup labeled with its season.
Winter: strong colors blue undertones (cool)
Spring: soft colors blue undertones (cool)
Summer: soft colors yellow undertones (warm)
Autumn: strong colors yellow undertones (warm)
Went to a color evaluation about then, w/a friend from work. Think the person doing the demo used the pastels, water colors, oils & acrylics comparison. According to her, I was a Winter.
As NightNight said, every color has different versions; that can work for any skin tone.
@@kayjacoby290 The one I went to draped cloth over you, to mimic clothes. I didn't learn anything new - I am a fall. But It was a fun diversion.
Brad, I wish that you had mentioned (for those that didn’t know) that there are warm, cool, and neutral tones for every hair color.
exactly. natural redheads are probably very irritated to hear they have the wrong hair color
I'm 53 and have never had colorful hair but have always wanted it. Now is the time! Why wait until tomorrow because we are not guaranteed that there will be one. This video helped me immensely!! I see berry hair in my future!
I’ll be 55 in August. I used to dye my hair Auburn, until the gray looked fake. I figured if it isn’t gonna look natural I’m going purple. So for the last 4 yrs I dye my hair purple. I say go for it! Berry is a great color !
@@patriciajackson1457 Love it and thanks for the encouragement!
It's really interesting how the cooler toned people looked slightly more yellow/almost slightly sallow-ish in the warmer hair colors. I experience this a lot with warmer colors and I was always confused because I thought "well my skin looks yellow-y so why doesn't the warmer color look right on me?"
It's BIZARRE, right?? I always wanted my hair to be copper like a penny, and when I finally did it, it turned out more orange than brass and pulled EVERY BIT OF RED from my face (i have cool/neutral undertones). It was awful lolol. So back to black I went.
And us with neutral warm or warm tone skin look super yellow as well with cooler toned colors. XD lol
@@valarya I have rosacea (and it started getting bad when I was 27-28, before that, I only had a nice natural blush color to my cheeks T-T), and colors to avoid are most bright reds, even burgundy, some pinks, oranges, and even browns that are too red as those colors, like you mentioned, enhance every red spots on your face. :(
@@valarya that explains it ! I dyed the front bits of my hair “fruit punch” which was definitely more bright orange and my face looked so red. I dyed it blue/purple now and it neutralized all the red.
Yeah I thought about dying my hair red but then tried one of those Instagram filters and it just looked so bad. But like most red heads are that pale-blue-pink color which seems like it would be cool toned as well…
I wanna add for everyone who is neutral toned: the hair colour you choose can affect how your complexion looks. When i had cool toned hair (cool black, purple, etc) I found I had to wear more cool toned accessories or makeup to make it work. Gold jewelry with cool toned hair doesn’t look right. Same with when I had orange hair, my silver jewelry didn’t look as good as the gold, even tho w my skin tone I could have reasonably pulled it off.
Keep this in mind when choosing a colour, if you like to wear summery or autumnal colours, go with a warm toned hair colour and it will look more cohesive. If you like to wear winter or spring colours you would probably bet better off with a cool colour
Isn't spring and autumn considered warm while summer and winter are considered cool or have I just got them mixed up
@@ainultasneem7536 Judging by nature's colors, i believe spring and winter represent the cool colors (like the grey, white of the winter and pink, blue and green during spring), and summer and autumn represent the warm ones (with a lot of yellow, orange, brown and red)
@@elliep1289 interesting! While I can see where you're coming from with summer, I don't see spring as cool-toned at all. When I think of spring, I think saturated colors from flowers and the greenery. Even the pinks, blues, and greens I see are warm-leaning. Whereas I see summer as the cool-toned seas and the blue muted skies from haze refracting after a rainy day. Oh well, guess my art teacher must've taught me differently😂
@@ainultasneem7536well that's a good point. There are SO many different categorizations on the internet that I'm kinda lost to be honest, so i just go with my perception of the matter lol
I have light olive skin, and my hair has been(cool toned) purple, blue, and pink for a year now. It works great
Looked at ur profile pic so true u are beautiful it def does work amazing 😍😍

Would love to see some real world hair color challenges. Gray hair to bright warm brown and upkeep, post illness/traumatic injury hair(think regrowth texture changes/porosity changes) and hair color, coloring for permanent color allergic people.
As someone who is always doing fashion colours, I needed this video!! Definitely takes all the guesswork out of it, thank you Brad 💜💜💜
Brad, the thing I love about this video is that you yourself are Exhibit A. The strawberry pink table and silver jewelry really work with your skin. So of course, you're cool. (I mean you're always cool, but you know what I mean.) 🌈 🏳️🌈
I’ve always been so scared to dye my hair 😭 but with your recommendations I think I just might go for it 😅
YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION. I wake up watching you and fall to sleep watching you! You inspire me so much!
I'm gonna be very honest with you, as someone who has a very deep skin tone, the only one of those tests that has ever helped me is the jewellery test 😭
Same, I was kinda disappointed he didn’t dive into dark skin. I think I expected too much by now
@@ShelbieMua Yeah, since he was remaking a video he's done before I thought he would give a few more tips for deeper skin
@@hxpewxrld I have to remember that they don’t really know what it’s like for us. So I won’t expect much next time
@@ShelbieMua I'm European, but southern Slav lol, Anglo-Saxon videos don't really help me either but I watch them bc I'm curious ab other types 😆
I love this!!! I am definitely a warmer neutral olive skin tone and I love love love my purple ombre
Me: literally just about to do my roots and go pastel pink, and I was unsure so this was great and I'm glad I made the right choice! I was blue for ages until a few months ago so many hair dye is a bit like jewlerry, you gravitate towards the ones that attract you! That and blue/pink/lilac are unicorn dream colours
Brad thank you for being my inspiration! I have had a lot of color in my hair in my 33 yrs but my most drastic change was going from red to now blonde with your super blue underneath! Your color line is beautiful! I wish you had some permanent options though so I didn't have to redo my hair so often to keep the blue vibrant and amazing!
Love your videos, Brad! You always bring a smile to my face. I can be watching you with my husband sitting on the other side of the room, and every time you say "hello, beautiful" you make him smile, too. He'll say, "Oh, you're watching Brad!" and then he'll come over and watch with me.
Hi beautiful! Your videos make my day! You’re such an icon, we love you brad!! ❤️ xx
that's exactly how i think of you... My fairy godmother 🤗 im so thankful for you and ur videos
BRAD!!! I went to cosmetology school and didn't get as good of an explanation/lesson on warm/neutral/cool skin tones. This is fantastic!!! Love this, love you!
Brad I so appreciate your advice , You are so good because you always bring up the possibilities of SEVERE damage to ones hair . You take such pride in your videos. When I modeled in my younger years I’m 63 I had only one hairdresser I went to because she dident sell she took care of me . I retired after 30 years as a Dental Assistant and you make my day 👏👋🏻🤗I’m proud to be Suscribed to your Channel . Donna
For a long time people tried to diagnose me as a cool tone or a warm tone. I was always told definitely one or the other (depending on what questions were asked.). The acknowledgment of neutral wasn’t even a thing (for me) until maybe 5- 10 years ago. O baby I’m definitely a neutral! It helps so much when trying to find the proper makeup shades!
I’ve been watching your videos in chronological order all day while I work and the evolution of your editing style has been such a rollercoaster 😂 love you! 💖
Hi brad. I just wanted to say I’ve been following you since when you first started and your personality has always radiated through your audience! Thanks for educating and putting a smile on our faces Everytime we watch your videos ♥️♥️♥️
You gave such good examples of people with all skin tones and races. Love that! 💕
I never know what to do with my hair, but I'm thinking about some colour change. This kind of videos are my favourites, I love colour theory and always help me a little with my perma-hair-indecision conflict :'D
P.D: the kiss moment was lovely
Brad....how did you know I needed this exact video? ❤️
I just learned why my purple hair didn't pop even though I loved it and why pinks and reds got the most compliments. Thanks Beautiful!!
I've been trying for the longest time to figure out if I'm cool toned or warm.. but the way you explained it.. hallelujah! I finally know I'm cool toned! Thank you!!!
As a pasty-ass girl, I find I need bright colours or deep colours. Beighes and grey etc don't do well with me and washes me out. So deep blue, burgundy, evergreen, pumpkin, mustards, etc. I can pull off lots of patterns. Of course I've never dyed my hair, so I'm talking clothes, but I'm assuming it would also translate to my hair of I decided to dye it (I'm 41 btw, so I doubt I'll change my look that much now).
Apple Gal, I am 58. If you asked me two years ago if I would color my hair, especially fantasy colors, I would have said NO way in h*** - never in a million years. When Covid hit and I started working from home, that all changed. My hair has been blue, black, teal, yellow, green, and pink. I let those temporary colors fade back to my natural light to medium brown (very little gray), so that I could get my passport photo taken. Now that that's all done, I will very soon be purple or purplish dark brown. It looks like I will work from home permanently, so I won't get into trouble with Corporate.
I thought late 50's was "too old" to be doing this, but now I don't care. I just do it for my own fun, and my reserved husband got used to it.
I never considered skin tone when I colored my hair. I think I'm neutral and have blue eyes, so I guess I was mostly on track for hair color.
Anyway, do what's right for you. 🙂 Brad's ideas are good for clothing colors, too.
@@Truongkl that's awesome! Oh yes, who knows what I might do with my hair as I get older. I'm glad you're enjoying it so much and having fun with your hair 💗
Take care and best wishes!
Yes this is awesome!!! Go for it ladies!!
@@cpolt1192 thanks for being my cheerleader ❤ take care
Brad: “I’m growing it out, can’t do a lot to my hair”
Also Brad: dyes hair brown and instantly goes back to blond 😂
Never change, Brad Mondo. ❤️
AHH you’re reading my MIND with these videos lately! 👏🏻 loving it 🌈
I actually had just decided to dye my hair red a couple of days ago bc I liked how it looked last time and now I know I'm a neutral-warm and it all works out 🥰 thank you, Brad!
When you said "pretty much everybody has some warm tone in their skin," I thought "unless they're dead." Which got me wondering about how morticians style their clients (trying not to make a mannequin joke 😜), which got me thinking that a video where a hair stylist and mortician talk about and compare their processes would be really interesting... Would be a great Halloween vid!
Thats just weird.
caitlin doughty/brad mondo collab?
pretty sure they use lots of makeup to make the skin look normal. Perhaps a warm tone makeup to cancel out?
@@Mmtastysound Caitlyn Doughty aka AskAMortician has a great video on how they bring "life" back into the dead for open viewings.
@@alchemistcannon Yeah I know about her! My point was that a mortician wouldn't style the hair to fit a cool skin tone, they would just fix the skin tone
I think I’m more of a neutral tone idk for sure though but I dyed my bangs this berry/maroon color and it looked so good like I had to bleach my hair first lol but for all my neutrals out there I like to use purples, maroons, and red tones in my opinion that just looks best for me it might be different for u but that’s what works for me
I love you! Thank you for the closing statement! I have this mentality with everything I do but it's great to hear from great people
You are so positive towards everyone. Thank you ☺️
I guess I'm cool neutral but I've been told repeatedly that I look terrible in pink and yellow, look good or bad in red (|people are mixed on it) Look great in brown, blue, purple, orange, and green. Most of my jewelry is silver because I've always assumed I'm cool toned but I recently got a gold colored ring and I love the look of it. So I don't know.
one thing to keep in mind is that most colors come in different tones. I, a mostly cool neutral, look great in garnet red and awful in true red.
I feel the same way!
Weird neutral - and many colors make me look like a corpse, so it’s actually really hard to tell. I’ve finally found a trick to help! If that color would be a nail polish that looks natural with my skin tone or if it makes my hands look dead!
I'm a weird neutral too! Certain shades of yellow or green make me look sick. I'm gonna try the nail polish test! Thanks!
Also a weird neutral. You can try color pickers online and look at the color palettes and try to determine your true results that way. Mine say cool summer, soft autumn, warm autumn, deep autumn. I think I'm somewhere in the autumn or warm neutral range. Nail polishes with blue sheen make me look anemic. I hate the way hot pinks, red-oranges, and bright yellows look on me, but I can pull off deep purple, gray, and black.
It might not be that you're a weird neutral. Maybe it's the shade of colours that is affecting how you look like. For example, I am a warm tone (clear spring). All warm colours should look good on me right ? That's not the case actually. I look really sick in pastels, even in warm pastels i look really ill and I look very washed out when i wear dark or muted colours too (like dirty pinks, muted dark purples and muted colour in general). Colours that are highly saturated really suit me. If they are the right saturation i can even pull off cool tones. So what you can try too is to figure out what colour saturation suits you best ! Especially since you're a neutral
Wait that's the best advice ever? I'm definitely gonna pay more attention to that from now on
I’m 90% sure I’m cool toned and just got my hair done purple on Thursday and I love it I’ve gotten so many compliments
This came out at the most prefect and reaffirming time😄 I'm currently saving up to get my hair bleached and coloured, but haven't been 100% confident about my idea of aqua/teal. But seeing this and knowing/retesting that I'm cool tone has helped my resolve to be bold😄😬😁😄
Thank you for your videos, they always brighten my day xoxo
I like that instead of telling what cool skin tone was he just started talking about how much he hated winter and cold weather lmao
I personally only like striking contrast when it comes to hair + skin. Dark and warm? Make her icy blonde or give her a deep blue! Pale and cool toned? Make her a bombshell ginger, or give her blue-black hair and a blunt cut. I'm definitely the type of person that wants everyone to walk around looking like the main character in a fantasy/sci-fi novel 🤣
!!! I've been dying the front section of my hair random colors for the past year or so after having black hair for over a decade and it still has been one of the best decisions I've ever made
Brad, you are amazing! I just learn so much from your videos, I can't get enough ❤
I realised how warm tone my skin is when I stood in the mirror next to my partner (who has a very cool tone skin), the difference was so obvious!! So maybe go find a friend who thinks they have the opposite of you 😉
“Congrats to everyone who is early and found this comment”💙
This is exactly the video I needed, I never colored my hair but I’ve been dying to try it out, however I was really nervous about what color I should try. Now I have everything I need, and I think I’ll go with blue or purple 🥰
I've had dozens of different fashion shades, but I've always loved magenta/raspberry colors on me. I'm about to commit to it all over my head in June now that my daughter is two. ❤️
Why does *everyone* forget about us olive skin tones?!
We're legit always left out
Olives are between neutral and warm.
@@ladyjunon6305 there's 2 different types of olive skin tones, they're either more warm(yellow), or more neutral(green). I am more neutral. I think I know what olive skin is, considering I've had it my whole life...
Okay so I found out I'm a warm-neutral!! So I decided that when I start colouring my hair I will start with a red then go down the rainbow scale and end with a violet!!! Thank you Brad for helping me make up my mind. I'm deciding that I will fully commit to colouring my hair in the near future!! Love you Brad have a fantastic day/evening!!!
i did a green and black thin green myself using all the info i have collected from watching you so long and it came out great even the back and was done on a Mohawk :) thank you
I was literally watching all of the old videos of this like A DAY AGO. THANK YOU.
Thank you for sharing with us Brad !!!
I'm getting my hair bleached and colored for the first time soon - and this was super helpful! I don't wear much make up because I am blind as a bat and don't like contacts, so I was picking my hair color based off what colors look good on me with my clothing. My suspicion that a deep emerald green would look gorgeous on me is correct because I have a sneaking suspicion I am cool toned! I wear so much silver jewelry, it's kinda nuts. XD Your videos have been so helpful in learning what to expect, what can go wrong, and convinced to go to a salon for my first bleach and color job.
I loooove your content!!!
Just binged through it all and can't wait to colour my hair and give my girlfriend some nice new looks with all the tricks i learned.
Muuuuch love from germany ♥️
This video couldn't have come at a Verte moment. Im blue, first time in my life and I'm 40. I recently had a negative experience at work where i didn't feel safe and had to leave. I changed from blonde to blue and i feel it couldn't happen again! Thank you for encouraging me, Brad!
Love this video! Educational as always! Think I speak for everyone when I say, we love you Brad! ❤
I'm neutral but I tan a lot in the summer and generally wear a lot more warm clothes because of this, so it's nice to know what colours to go for
Thank you for being such a positive force.
Excellent! Just in time for warm weather! Happy Spring! 💐🌈
As someone who is super warm toned thank you! I currently have pink hair but it’s more of a coral peach color vs pastel. We had to go that route because pastels look horrible on me. It can be so hard at the “extreme” ends of the spectrum. Hoping it looks this good come summertime when my skin becomes considerably more tan
SO amusing. I forgot for a small bit you were around. Your energy is SO catching. KEEP ROCKING!
The moment I needed some advice about fashion colors, Brad Mondo delivers! My boy is a mindreader✨
Feck yeah! I've been doing it right this whole time 😁 thanks for the confidence boost, Brad!
Thank you Brad! This really helped! Looking forward to experimenting with colour! ☺️👍🏻💖
Brad, I'm afraid that your best hair color and style that I've witnessed is the blue mullet. I can't get over it til this day it was SO GOOD ON YOU!!!
This video calmed me down. Tysm for your videos! I love you 🥺💚💚✨
Love the last tip, do whatever makes you happy!!!
I love these tutorial/educational style videos! I would love one of how to take care of hair tools! I try to keep my clippers and scissors nice but I’d love to give them a deep clean, and whenever I color my hair I feel like it takes an hour to clean the dye bowl and brush.
so i just got a money piece brown moment done yesterday, im a neutral with more on the cooler side but the color i got is a little warmer. i was so happy when i came out of the salon but my mom and my boyfriend thought i looked very weird. but i absolutely love it. but now i feel discouraged and i wanna dye it back to black. buy Brad's video gave me some confidence so imma keep it (i got my hair done for the first time)
Oh finally! I’ve been looking for this kind of video for years!!
Just love having fun hair!
I've been every color in the 🌈 and red is always my favorite color and compliments me.
So according to these tests, I seem to be cool toned. That’s good because a few days ago I placed an order for XMondo Turquoise and Berry. I’m pretty excited to try them!
I am definitely a neutral. I usually get sunset starting with dark blue ending with orange! Thanks so much!
I did a sunset look with red orange & yellow. Not even the red lasted very long. I gravitate toward cooler colors. I typically do blues purples & greens. They fade really beautifully in my hair.
I think that gray is one of the best color’s for me and i’m also thinking a dark red would be awesome
Thx brad! Sticking with peach/orange 🧡

My favorite & current colors are blue & purple with splashes of hot pink!
I like your last rule. I'm pretty sure I'm a neutral warm but my favorite colours are blues. I had my first color experience just a couple years ago and I had the bottom 4" bleached and dyed a dark teal.
I am pretty sure that im neutral then! Ive had every color of the rainbow hair and my FAVES were a tie between hot pink and orange. Oh man I miss those colors!!! I also really liked turquoise but i think the warmer tones took best on me. Thanks brad!
I’m a neutral cool and it’s awesome! I can wear most colors as long as it’s a cool toned version of it.
Thank you so much! I learned a lot. I just learned that I can do blue and purple and a auburn orangey red. I think I am a Neutral Cool. I've been wanting to change my hair color, but don't know what shades of brown or highlights to do for my skin.so thank you. I will def always keep some warm in my hair then.
I got my colors done with house of colour and I 1000% recommend it! They tell you what color clothes make up and hair colors (warm or cool and bright or muted ect) best on you! If you color your hair a lot or love shopping like me I recommend y’all look into it!
The show that I’m in at school ends on April 10th and I’ve been planning to dye my hair a fun color after it! This video couldn’t have come at a better time!
I’ve been wanting to do blue and violet for the longest time, so learning that my skin tone will go well with these colors boosts my confidence.
Though I did have red for a couple years and I thought it went okay with my skin. (Red just seems like a color almost anyone can pull off) that being said I can confirm red just stays with you forever😂 red is like a fly you can’t swat away
Thank you for this video! I am looking to get my hair highlighted very soon ( first time doing anything to my hair, also watched your highlight video 😁👍🏻) but I do eventually wanna do a crazy color, so this helped a lot. 😁
