I always thought this song was about a man's devoted love to his woman, and maybe it is about that. Then my daughter was born, holding her in my arms as she slept gave this song a whole new meaning to me. One thing for sure is it's about that kind of unconditional, devoted love that you only feel with that someone really special. Some people never experience that and that is sad
That's really great - God Bless You and Your Daughter
I hear you!
yeah i can rememeber coming home holding my daughter listing to my wife ask if i'll ever put her down
Its about rockets
Yep. That happens when you hold your child
The song was written for the movie Armageddon that Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv, was starring in. At first he didn't want to do it. Then he saw that it was going to be used in scenes with his daughter's character and her father in the movie as well as the romance scenes between her and her love interest in the movie. He sang it in a way that made it appropriate for both relationships imo.
Yeah, it fit her adult romantic relationship in the movie, but for him singing it, it felt like it came from the same kind of feelings that I know many parents have when thinking about their newborns.
@@s.mcpherson6354 - but forget seeing the result of all that... they have the lyrics! FML. đ€Šââïž
@@danosverige I think that's possibly the influence of growing up with rap and hip hop, which like folk, is less music based and more lyric focused. So it kind of makes sense that they'd place more value there than audiences used to look for.
That's actually why I like Lex's reactions. Too many reactors operate with a subtle agenda where they're *trying* to 'figure a song out,' when that is not the state of mind the songwriter imagines it being heard in. It's kind of like how dating changed from being this organic almost invisible thing we realized was happening, to now where it feels more like an interview with a reject or pass at the end. Many times it feels like Brad is 'interviewing,' rather than reacting to, a song.
They songs are usually trying to connect with ideas already in us. Rather than trying to figure some external song writer's lyrics out, Lex seems to get that, if we're relaxed and open to flowing with it, the whole song will sort of play the audience, and we'll 'realize' how it connects to us, rather than come to some knowledge regarding what it was 'about.'
Great movie!
@@s.mcpherson6354 Amen.
Steven Tyler is up there with some of the great male vocalists of that era. Love the passion in which he sings this song, so yeah, I'm buying it as well. This song was featured in the movie "Armageddon" where Tyler's daughter "Liv Tyler" costarred with Ben Affleck.
Wow... You didn't miss a thing.
** one of the best male vocalists of all time ** lol
All time* Aerosmith spans 3 full decades
The song won an Academy Award for best music.
Iâm just trying to make it out the hood by doing reaction videos while high asf on my CZcams channel đ
Iâve always loved Aerosmith - so many great songs! Steven Tylerâs voice is so unique and wonderful.
Screw proper music language!!! Lex and you put it in terms I can understand and relate to. PERFECTION!!!â„đŻ

Danced to this song at my wedding. Seems like yesterday. Great song!!!
...Kevin...please
Same here. I remember how much effort we put into trying to figure out when to do spins and stuff. And when we did it at the wedding, everything we practiced just went out of my head. We just slow danced and she put her head on my shoulder the whole time. One of the best moments in my life.
That was the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding in â99
Mine too also in 99.
thats very special
This was our wedding song too - Just 5.5 years ago 2016
I believe the song was actually written for his daughter because he was on the road so much when she was little...
It was written by Dianne Warren.
@@Thundermuscle Right on... I thought he said he sang it to his daughter Liv in an interview.
Steven Tyler didn't even know Liv was his daughter until she was 11. She was raised by her mother and musician Todd Rundgren. Liv got suspicious after she met Steven when she was 11, and asked her mom about it, and the truth came out. Nobody else knew about it (it wasn't made public) until she was 14.
Isnât this from the movie Armageddon?
@@philpennington826 As if it could be any more obvious when you look at the two of them. lol
Watching Brad actually react to this, seeing his face reactions while he was listening and seeing that he's enjoying it??? Wow that really brought joy to me, I'm not even lying and Lex of course vibing all around but yeah I definitely loved this reaction guys
In this episode, Brad's "side to side head rock" is stabalized where as Lex,s usual up and down, front and back head nod was compromised by some side to side action..... Tune in for the next episode folks.. đ€
I'm not going to be happy until the day Brad falls to his knees lost in an air guitar solo while Lex pats sweat of his forehead with a handkerchief
đđđ
Brad putting up a stank face of enjoyment. That is great to see. Give Brad some love, ya`ll.
He seems to lighten up a bit, first time he looks like he's actually enjoying the song.
whatever
Armageddon nostalgia x9000.
Makes me remember Michael Clarke Duncan in that film.
I miss that guy. I loved him in the Green Mile.
@@brianfranklinlee8490 Michael Duncans line after they destroyed the comet in Armaggeddon : Harry... you the man...
Just one line but so well acted from him in that escape scene. I miss him too because he was such a belivable actor.
@@blackwolf4653 Yes I really miss that guy.
I believe it was David Morse's line.
"He's Enormous" in the Green Mile. You know that Stephen King didn't start great writing until he was run over by a car. Green Mile and Shawshank. Great movie's.
The song was written by Diane Warren, a professional songwriter who specializes in writing hits for slumping bands and movie soundtracks. So Steven Tyler really did do a convincing job making it seem personal.
Diane Warren wrote hits for DeBarge, Cher, Celine Dion, and LeeAnn Rimes. Warren has written nine number-one songs and 32 top-10 songs. Unfortunately many reaction videos never dive deep enough into the songs to realise the singer performing the music isn't the largely overlooked genius who wrote it. Brilliant songwriters like Diane Warren, Carol King, and Jennifer Warnes deserve far more recognition.
@@rossmacintosh5652 Let's not forget everything Dolly Parton and Prince wrote for everyone.
@@cteal2018 This has nothing to do with them. It's ok to forget for now.
I don't care if I hear this song a thousand times, it still moves me time I hear it.
Funny enough one of the techniques he uses a lot in this song is actually called vocal cracking and it's that thing you're talking about. And then when his voice gets all gritty that is called vocal fry.
Always remember the time Steven was so wiped out on drink 'n drugs. He heard a song he loved on the radio and staggered into the studio, demanding the producers find out who owned the rights so Aerosmith could make a cover version.
The producers looked at one another, then said to him: "Steven, it's YOUR song. You wrote it!" đđ
Thanks that gave me a hugh smile and a great laugh also growing up in the era I was total nugent fan
2:00 Voice breaks as you say or 'cracks' 'mini yodel' is certainly very expressive and purposeful. I applaud your notice of aside from other reactors who blindly plow through a song. Also, as someone whose been watching you guys for a bit, both of you are quite awesome people. I am proud to have you two living in my home state.
This song was written by songwriter Diane Warren with intentions of CĂ©line Dion doing the vocals. She turned it down because she just had the Titanic song. A blessing for the world. Cuz Steven's vocals blew it out of the Universe for "Armageddon" It would have been a totally different song had CĂ©line sung it. I'd always take Steven over her anyway. He has an intensity she could never capture. Steven Tyler is a living legend and a great human being. I've been listening to him and Aerosmith for 47yrs.
...yeah...I don't care for it...I may go and spew
@@raymo6795 Did she record it? I never heard it but then again I never went looking for it either lol
It's funny you mentioned Celine Dion...was just thinking this song was probably only second to My Heart Will Go On in terms of theme songs of the late 90's
@@davidkymdell452 I could never imagine her singing it. It worked out perfect.
As others have mentioned, this song was so emotional because he sung it specifically for his daughter.
Steven Tyler is an absolute rock icon along with the rest of Aerosmith. Great singer, frontman & live performer.
You guys should check out 70s Aerosmith back when they were a hard rock band.

I hated all post " comeback" Aerosmith, "Kings and Queens" was great, and "Back in the Saddle" and "Mama Kin", "Sweet Emotion", but the album "Pump", and almost all thereafter left me cold(I liked "Rag Doll")....post "Pump" was more about the money than the music, and I did not care for it...IMO
Absolutely! They kicked major ass
Aerosmith has one of the biggest catalogues of hits! That span multiple decades- From hard bangers to love songs like this- And everything in between- đđđâïž

I was 16 when this song came out. This song was played at all the school dances. It was a great power ballad
Aerosmithđ is the greats category...đđđ
Been watching you guys for so long and defo my fav reaction channel. Love you both!
When they play this live it's so amazing hearing the whole stadium sing it with Steven!
Man, this track was frikkin everywhere in the late 90's.
Wow. What a great way to describe Steven's voice. I loved that.
This is one of my favourite ballads I gotta say, also because I love Armageddon the movie as well and so I still see certain scenes in my head just listening to it! I always love when Brad gets into a song / maybe because it doesnât happen *as much* so itâs a treat !!
This was THE love song of my high school years. It was "our" song for my high school gf and I and came on the radio pretty much every time her and I were in the car together so it seemed like destiny. Really it was just on constant rotation on so many stations because it was such a hit and could be played on rock stations because it was Aerosmith and had the Steven Tyler screams in it and on Top 40 type stations because it was a soft love song. Everything about this song rocks and it certainly puts me back in a time and place.
Aerosmith truly delivers on this song. One of my Favorites.
His voices Badass brilliance.
Diane Warren wrote this song Aerosmith agreed to do this song for the movie Armegeddon because Steve's daughter Liv was in the movie
For a serious rock band the pop songs that Aerosmith cranked out later in 90's were quite good.
i think they were quite bad
@@raymo6795 Art is subjective....you are entitled to your opinion.
@@lewellyncrunkmeyer1512 ..
. I may have been a bit harsh, my apologies
@@raymo6795 No, there's a big difference between the 70's and the 90's with Aerosmith. I prefer the 70's. But I've come to understand what they do IS art, expressed by people who want to branch out and try different things and not be pigeon holed. Some did so because music changed and they wanted to continue to be relevant and make money. Look how Robert Plant, and others, transitioned to the 80's. Very few will say his 80's progression is better than what he did in the 70's with Zep but he accomplished what I said above because he adjusted and adapted. Most musicians also enjoy the changes because they can be, and are producing art that is changing and evolving. I just try to be open minded to change.
@@raymo6795 Everyone's art is not supposed to be liked and well received by everyone and it isn't. What that should teach us though is to be more open minded about everything. Being so doesn't change the core of who we are and what we prefer but leaves the door open to accept change and maybe come to view things in a light we may not have been able to or done so before.
One of the most beautiful songs I love. Glad Brad is feeling it as well. It's such an emotional and touching song. I've cried to it before.

IMO, Steven Tyler is very underrated.
Aerosmith in general actually.
YES! people love to hate but Aerosmith is one of the greatest bands of all time
@@mr.intamin1081 I have loved them since the 70s, but I was soooo incredibly disappointed to learn that Steven is a 1st jerk to people. My wife works for a major airline here in Los Angeles at LAX, and his behavior towards her and other staff has been appalling. My wife is the kindest, sweetest person you'd ever meet, and she has a number of letters written to her supervisors on her behalf for exemplary service over the last 27 years. I get it, we all have a bad day, but this has happened a number of times. So disappointed too cuz I really liked the band and this dude, but unfortunately not anymore.
IMO, he is not under rated enough...loved Aerosmith in the 70s, hated them in the 80s...and 90s...still I think you look young Denise
Yes!! They've been my favorite band since the 70's. I've been blessed to see them in concert 4 times. đ¶đâ
@@atticussampson776 what did he do that was so horrible?
Steven Tyler's tribute to Sir Paul McCartney at The Kennedy Center Honors was one of the best performances I've ever watched. Chills! Listening to Aerosmith and attending concerts since JH, but that particular performance was iconic! He was absolutely amazing.
I had this as my ringtone in Australia when it first came out đ„čđ«¶đââïžâ„ïž
Seen them in concert and they are awesome.
I admit, Iâve seen lots of your videos but Brad how a grown ass man such as yourself can know so little about music absolutely amazes me!!
I remember being a kid and this song being All over the radio. I think they played it a third of a year in steady rotation, and still played it a multiple times a day for a few years after that.
How could anyone not like this?
This song makes me think of my daughter every time!

One of best Love songs ever guys. That's his breathing technique that allows him to make those sounds in his voice, thats what he said in a interveiw I saw, several years ago.

This song sounds like what true love feels like.
C'mon Roober! Please try to establish contact with your masculinity...the world has too many weepy men!
Brad is right, this song was written by Diane Warren, not Aerosmith, and she wrote several other hits in the 80's and 90's and won several awards. The band played it and Steven Tyler sang the hell out of it. Now Steven did write the power ballad "Angel" on the "Permanent Vacation" album and if you guys liked this I'm sure you'd appreciate that song.
Great song, great reaction :)
Love you Lex ! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž

Not a queen

this is Aerosmith's 1 and only #1 Billboard top 100 hit too
My first concert ever was an Aerosmith concert and let me tell you: Steve Tyler sounds AMAZING live and Joe Perry is a monster with his guitar.
He's definitely the reason I got into rock music. Even my older brothers who hated Rock got into it after that concert!
It's such a beautiful song.
Steven Tyler is a great human as well I used to do electrical for him and Joe Perry at their restaurant in a Town called Norwell in MA. He would come by before they opened sometimes and he played this for me and 1 other person on acoustic, it was amazing. I was 22 one day I came into the Bar to work on some things and saw a Mercedes AMG SLS in the parking lot and told him it was my dream car and he threw his keys at me and said lets go for a ride, I almost shit myself and me and him drove to the beach front and back it was so fun. Even smoked a Joint with Mia and Liv in the back of restaurant once. Such nice people especially Steve, I will say his wife at the time, not so much. lol.
Anyone else think about climbing a rocket ship as it takes off, with Pierce and Shaundi telling you goodbye, when you hear this song?

They wouldn't watch the movie. They'd just have the captions showing! đ€Šââïž
This song is actually about his daughter Liv Tyler. Yes, the actress from Armageddon (Empire Records, Jersey Girl, LOTR and so many more movies). It is like a father's ode to his daughter. That was the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra that performed with them, but I got to see them perform with The Boston Pops Orchestra once too.

Incredibly generic/
This song was written specifically for & has always been about a father's love for his daughter. Its made even better that Steve Tyler(Aerosmith) wrote this for film armagedon staring his daughter Liv Tyler and with Bruce Willis playing her father(spoiler he dies in the film).
People like you spit so much bs that you don't even know what you're saying. Everything you said was just incorrect. Learn more before speaking, you won't look as foolish.
Another song used in Armageddon! His daughter Liv Taylor was the lead female actor in the movie. A love song for his daughters character and love interest in movie and between the father and daughter in the movie, a fathers love as well. The father in the movie wanted his future son in law to take care of her before he died in the movie and at the final seconds of the fathers life they showed his mental images of his daughter at birth, swinging as a child and growing up! Yes, a love song between a couple , but a love song of fathers love for his daughter!
