@@NicknLex Btw, That thumb print in the beginning with all the autographs belongs to Stevie Wonder. You need to show this to Stella. This, "Do They Know It's Christmas" (Band Aid) and "Tears Are Not Enough" (Northern Lights). All of these for a good cause.

Cindy Lauper's peak vocal on the coda..Wow. Then Bruce ad Stevie trading off, Ray Charles tellin 'em "Ohhhh, Lemme HEAR it ,y'all!!"..What a recording. And hey, Qunicy knew he what he was doing..Dude wrote/Produced so much great music for both Hollywood movies, T.V and artists, dude was a hit-making machine.

The mindblowing thing was how low key Steve was perfect every take; he just stepped up to the mic and...GOLD. He freaked Daryl out and, apparently, Bruce and Huey.

In 1985, the artists were still the driving force in the music industry, and could still get together for a good cause. Nowadays, technology can produce so-called stars out of no talent models, and call all the shots. There is no money in charity, so why should the suits let their talent give away their performance.
This will never happen again! I still cry when I hear it.
I'm impressed that they were able to get each artist's distinct vocal traits so you don't even need to see the video to know who is singing.
If you haven't watched it already : grab a few bottles of wine and spend the whole day watching Live Aid '85 ; from the opening band , Status Quo in London to the finale of this song in Philly .
We still watch it here in Wales , my wife , myself and our two sons.
And.........the legendary performance of the reformed Pink Floyd at Live Aid '05 .
When you realize how many of these legends have now passed into the next realm………this is 🔥!!

One of my favorite things from the documentary is when they gave tribute to Harry Belafonte

now we see this wonder differently and with tears in our eyes! We know that Cindy Lauper's jewelry made a noise, we know the story of this wonderful work and its result! The Greatest Night In Pop is... OMFG. 🥰
I still get teary eyed when I hear this. The video makes me smile to see so many people who aren't here anymore came together and gifted us with this. I still remember my first love and I spending time and hugging/comforting our French teacher while she watched it for the first time. She was well traveled and said it made the big world seem smaller and more comforting
Wow! The song is hitting me with so much more impact now than when it originally came out. I watched the documentary film the other night with rush after rush of chills and goosebumps, crying off and on and not sure why. Finally figured out that it was hearing this lyric, watching the artists and the events of that night, and looking at the current crises all over the world today. The world needs this song again. The world needs a similar musical miracle.
The talent in that studio coming together for such a good cause was simply amazing and you two are a breath of fresh air!

Bruce, Stevie, Cyndi Lauper, and Ray Charles were the MVP's of this thing my goodness. Also, I don't think enough respect goes to MJ for willingly taking a backseat here. Of all the people in that room, he was BY FAR the biggest star at that time and could have easily taken a larger role in the song but he let others shine.
Michael Jackson was arguably the biggest star at the time, but he did not have unilateral power to take a bigger role.

Guys , Live Aid was history in the making . I sat in all day and night watching the entire show here in Wales , UK .
It was a day never to be forgotten . The highlight was the staggering performance by Queen .
Always felt when Cindy Lauper came in singing she ramped the whole song up 8 notches!! The paring of Bruce Springsteen and and Stevie Wonder was genius...and IMO Stevie stole the song in the 2nd half, like a quarterback catching the ball in the end zone for the wining touch down. the simul-casted this on world radio one day, and world was almost at peace for 7 minutes, then ever since we have let the world go down the shitter...

I too get tears in my eyes watching these wonderful artists .. sing this beautiful song .. suggest exploring sustainability to obtain the goal presented in this song ..

We Are The World 1985 was the best. It was raw, inspiring, heartfelt and in the moment. A room full of legends with kind heart.

I was a teenager when this came out. It was huge! All those iconic singers in one song!
The person who doesnt get any credit for this is HARRY CHAPIN who died a couple years earlier in a car crash. He donated the proceeds to every other show he performed to Food Banks across the USA. He started the ball rolling and influenced many of the artists in this video with his generosity and spirit

It’s Dee-on as in Dionne Warwick. She’s a first cousin to Whitney Houston. Their mothers are sisters.
If you haven't already, check out the inspiration for this, Do They Know It's Christmas. If you do, please, please check out the live version from Live Aid. It has bigger stars than the original but mostly, it has a soccer stadium full of fans losing their minds. It makes me puddly every time I see it. The passion, the optimism, the power.

Wonderful, heartfelt reaction. I would expect nothing else from you guys. My biggest question mark in the doc was why Ray Charles was ignored. His presence in this song is truly enormous and impactful.

Great reaction and a great message that should remain evergreen. I’ve always loved the song, the message, and the community that is expressed by this all star cast of celebrity’s. The documentary is an essential watch to grasp what an accomplishment this really was. But the video of the song is more awesome. I want to pick a favorite singer or combination but I can’t really. It’s all so good. Seeing Lionel Ritchie last night on the Grammy awards show brought it all back. Thanks for this reaction and all your hard work on the channel. Now you have to react to Joni Mitchell’s debut performance of Both Sides Now from last nights Grammy Awards. I hope you saw it live. I did thanks to Kevin and your channel.

Remember in the 10 hours they rehearsed, did the chrous then the individual parts...laid down the vocal tracks and filmed the video!.
So first Band Aid....then We are the World...then Live Aid.....when will you cover that momentous occasion....you could do a series....multiple parts?
Blew my mind....remembering back in the day when I would spend 5 hours as a solo artist on one song!!! These artists were committed to the project and Quincy did an incredible job of keeping things on track.
So many memories. We sang this in jr. high and I helped the music teacher to divide up the solos because I knew the song so well.

I watched this as a teen when it came out in the 80s, there was another behind the scenes video with Jane Fonda narrating. I see they have that version on CZcams fyi. There are some extra behind the scenes clips not in the Netflix doco.
When you watched the autographs at the beginning, Lex says, “Someone put their thumb.” That was STEVIE WONDER. In this era where people stopped buying vinyl albums I realize that this generation doesn’t know that all of Stevie Wonder’s album covers had his thumb print and his crudely written autograph (in block letters) in the credits. He also had the title of the album and his name printed in RAISED BRAILLE, usually on the back of the album and sometimes on the front. Just an FYI for you both.
Thank you for watching the documentary first to have insight as to who everyone that was in the spotlight is, some of the singers such a Latoya , Marlon ,and Randy Jackson, The Pointer Sister's, Sheila E, and a few others sometimes are not easily recongnized. I have not seen the NETFLIX Documentary but I dont need to because I was a teenager in the late 70's and early 80's and saw the MTV Special , so I know who everyone is.

I think the artists-for-Ethiopia thing began in the UK, with Bob Geldof organizing a bunch of musicians to do the tune 'Do They Know It's Christmas' under the moniker Band-Aid. He went on to organize the Live Aid concert, which seemed to spread the idea to other nations like the USA and Canada.
This was the 2nd leg of a three part series for Africa famine relief
Besides Prince and Madonna, another artist who wasn’t invited was Whitney Houston. Her debut album would be released 2 weeks after this recording session. Had they known how big it would be, I’m sure they would’ve invited her. After all, she was Dionne Warwick’s niece, and her first album contains a duet with Jermaine Jackson, so Michael and Quincy knew who she was.
Prince wanted a guitar solo. They said no thanks.

With our Country in such turmoil, contention and hate by listening to this amazing song we can still try to have hope and believe that unity can happen if we all join as 1. This song has been a staple for me during the nightmarish we are experiencing during this election period.

I've watched quite a few reactions to this video, mostly younger folks who weren't around at the time, but also people FROM Africa. The one thing that amazes me is that, of all the superstars here..the one they all knew (besides Michael Jackson) was Kenny Rogers!.. They would get so excited "OmGosh it's Kenny Rogers!!!!' I know he was a mega star in the early 80s but I figured it was mostly the English speaking world. 😀 I have to give credit to Quincy, Lionel and whoever else arranged all these parts and decided who should sing what, and designated the vocal pairings etc. It's impossible to imagine it any different.
The one part that always gets to me is when the camera pans left during the chorus and we see Harry Belafonte. To think that he was a superstar before any of them (except Ray Charles), and he was the one that made the initial phone calls to get the ball rolling on this...and he's perfectly content to be in the back row, not even near a microphone, still singing his heart out. 😪
I also love the span of generations.... Ray Charles, Harry Belafonte, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick. Then Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan.... then all the younger stars from the late 70s, , down to Cyndi Lauper and Kim Carnes who were just coming into stardom in the mid 80s.

Just Wonderful, the whole Live Aid day way amazing, Phil Collins was the only performer who took part in the UK then flew to the USA to perform with Led Zeppelin. Would love to see you two react to some of that day. Queen were amazing at Wembley Stadium..

Band Aid came out with a song with the refrain "Feed the World". The US response was "We ARE the world" 😀
