Steven Tyler also opened a home for abused girls called âJanieâs Houseâ
â€
That's ironic
oh the irony. steven tyler has his own allegations against him for sexual abuse against teenage girls. he's also disgusting for another reason.
"Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler-who once adopted, dated, and impregnated a then 16-year-old named Julia Holcomb-has, at the age of 70, opened a facility in Memphis for girls who have been neglected or abused."
@@ankh-ef-en-khonsu3274 interesting, Iâve never heard that but you are right tons of
Articles with the same claims.
@@EsoxLucius21 Steve is no role model.
The song is about a girl who shot her daddy because he sexually abused her. I think Steven Tyler has mentioned this in some articles before as well.
Back when the music videos actually helped tell the story (directed by David Fincher)
@@jkvinsland They need to watch the video.
czcams.com/video/RqQn2ADZE1A/video.html
The Official music video shows it was not Janie he has abused but her younger sister. 1:56 from the official video shows it clearly. czcams.com/video/RqQn2ADZE1A/video.html Still Areosmith. touching what others would never do.
Ya I wonder if thereâs a documentary on it
A very dark subject, probably the darkest, but Aerosmith broke many barriers.
Had always respected them for it.
Sooooo underrated band because their hits in the 90's. But no doubt about it, Aerosmith is one of the greatest of all time, if you ask for rock and roll.
Somebody needed to say something. The girls were too embarrassed, contaminated, and afraid. Thank you Mr. Tyler.
Yeah, this, "Runaway Train" by, was it Tesla?, sometime in that era, trying to make a good impact on a struggling society.
@@1utube01 Runaway Train is Soul Asylum and another deep dark subject
I think Brad is thinking of the movie called â Not Another Teen Movieâ where Chris Evansâ character is singing it on football stands to Janey. The trailer showed this scene too if Iâm not mistaken.
SHE'S GOT A GUN! czcams.com/video/HN31J8s_OzQ/video.html
Definitely!
Best scene was during the game. The conversation between the coach and doctor. lol "Can he play?" "He's in a coma!" "CAN HE PLAY!?"
@@JoeR203 âThere goes my hero, watch him as he goes!â đ”đ¶
Ironic thing about the movie, Chris Evans went on to play in Marvel, while Chyler Leigh(Janey in the movie) went on to play in DC. One is Captain America, the other is Supergirl's sister.
I thought you guys were paying no attention to the lyrics itself. Brad was so focused on where he heard it. Lex was so focused on the instruments.
As other said, it's about a girl shooting her sexually abusive dad. I think the story came from a band members girlfriend. When she told them her own story, she said "If I had a gun, I would had shot him". So, he wrote this song.
Guys- Aerosmith has TONS of hits! 70âs, 80âs and 90âs! One of my top 5 of all time- please keep going with Aerosmith- âLove on an Elevatorâ, âHole in my Soulâ, âWalk this wayâ with rap icons Run DMC- HAS to be the official video for that one for sure.) It was history making back in the day- Rock/rap collab! Sooooo many more HITS with this band! And yes, they have a variety of vibes in their music- đđâïž
Steven Tyler's voice is incredible.. from sultry to growley and super high without sounding harsh or piercing. Love the man.
"Back in the saddle" has a wicked backbeat. Brad you would appreciate it. The bass just rips.
"Love in an Elevator" was the first song I remember hearing from these guys.....and it's still my favorite!!!! "Dream On" might be their best though....
I have always loved "Dude Looks Like A Lady"
Love in an Elevator is great at concerts!
Boy you have been missing out check out Rocks
Lex, I think the instrument you are thinking of is called a Sitar, not a mandolin. You can also hear it on the Beatles song "Norwegian Wood".
And the intro to "Wherever I May Roam"!
At that size, could also be a koto that she's thinking of.
the solo is played by Joe Perry with an electroacustic dobro, that's why it has a clean yet metalic peculiar sound... and the punch of the pickup
@@JulioLeonFandinho 100%
Pump was a banger of an album, loved it to death but I really wish people would do more stuff off Permanent Vacation. Every song from that could've been a smash hit.
This song and âWhat it Takesâ weâre both huge, and you start to see how the bad, unlike many others were able to change there sound to eventually also be successful after Nirvana.
It's worth checking out the film clip for this one. It's movie quality and tells the story of the song perfectly.
@3:47 the part where Brad says its sounds Familiar is because this was featured in the movie AIRHEADS, when Brendan Fraser is back in his apartment watching Music Videos.
The magazine led Tyler to his chorus, which originally had the line âDannyâs got a gunâ before he changed the name, and gender, to Janie. As he reflected on the topic of gun violence, the rocker found the songâs deeper story. âIâd heard this woman speaking about how many children are attacked by their mothers and fathers,â Tyler explained. âIt was fucking scary. I felt, man, I gotta sing about this.â
One of the most distinct voices in rock & roll
1989 MTV video of the year. Great song. Strong topic.
Hearing those harmonies for the first time on this new thing called a CD was truly an experience growing up! Thanks for doing this song.
This is what Aerosmith fans refer to as post-Aerosmith.
Yes definitely. I really only relate to the older more gritty Aerosmith. This is all too top 40 for me.
A mandolin is a smallish instrument, shaped roughly like a guitar. It has 8 strings and is used a lot in blue grass music. Richie Sambora has a kind of electric mandolin he used in the intro to the Bon Jovi song Wanted, Dead or Alive.
Funny to see the young play songs that us old folks heard played over and over like any other pop song out today ...LOve you guys !!! #KeepREALmusicAlive
I love Steven's voice he is very talented he can also play multiple instruments.
Brad is like Rain Man trying to figure out the "Who's on first" lyrics.
It's like he hasn't a clue and the only reason he's listening to this music is because of Lexi... And she talking about a DAW where all the instruments are there .. Digital Audio Workstation.
These are youngsters...they were not here in the 70's
RAGDOLL is a fun one. I went to their concert with a girl named Janie. I was so jealous of her. Brad is prob thinking of the official video.
"Dude looks like a Lady" never fails to revive me when I'm flagging in a workout. Mad talented group.
I would be pissed if they're not doing 'Dude Looks Like a Lady' at some point.
I grew up listening to this album, it's one of my dad's all time favorites. Interesting tidbit, my Mom went to a concert with her big bro in the 70s and got to see Aerosmith as the OPENING ACT. This fact is used often in my family to tease mom about getting old lol XD
The Boys are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy. You guys will love the sound and upbeat nature of it. Also Tyler uses a lot of false chords and a hell of a falsetto to do what you're talking about.
And also, a Mandolin is more like a guitar than anything. I believe they have 4 strings and are pretty small. I know the instrument you're referring to though but don't remember the name.
Ukulele, maybe?
A mandolin has 8 strings but really 4 pairs as there are two strings tuned to each of 4 different pitches. The double string gives it a unique sound. It is much smaller than a guitar and, therefore, higher in pitch. It is one of the primary instruments in bluegrass music but is common in country as well.
I just looked it up and it is called a Waterphone. It is composed of metal rods in a circle that make that mandolin-like sound. It stated that this instrument is also used in horror films. Pretty impressive...
Its crazy the shit that people go thorough man this song has a big impact on me
This track is Aerosmith at its absolute peakâŠman what a classicâŠ
Their stuff was much grittier and better before they got sober. Two albums before this one and go backwards to hear the best Aerosmith.
When this song came out it had been years since Aerosmith had a big hit. It was a shock how good this song was. Great songwriting. Mastering process is after all the tracks are laid and recorded and the mix is locked down, you probably meant the mixing process.
Not that many years...dude look like a lady was only a couple years before this
@@thebrogressiveagenda9936 Yeah, I didn't like that song. I was thinking of the great stuff like Toys in the Attic.
They also had big hits with Rag Doll and Angel
Steven Tyler isn't called "The demon of screaming" for nothing....... I've been a concert junkie since 1974 when I went to my first. Aerosmith is the band I have seen the most often (and that is saying a lot) Deep deep catalog of all different songs. This one is obviously the darkest but they have some very fun songs, blues etc. If you can their videos are almost always the best to watch. With few exceptions they are worth it. Think you guys would like the video for "Pink" (not the BEST song but with the video it's very much worth it) Also Eat the Rich. To get Lex swaying try "Seasons of Wither" I've only found a good version of that song on YT under MTV Unplugged.
I hope you guys are watching the official videos!
This is about a young teenage girl being molested by her Father, according to the video.
You're correct. He 'jacked' a little bitty baby, was originally 'raped'... but the record execs made them temper down the lyrics.
Incest from dad. And no one believes the girl. So she kills him
Brad and Lex, Aerosmith- Crazy, and Cryin' are both bangers as well. You'd like em both.
Definitely have to do the official video for Cryin'. It goes along with the lyrics and Silverstone giving the guy the finger is the closure all us teenage gals ever wanted.
For Aerosmith, definitely review "Nobody's Fault" and "Rats in the Cellar". Classic!
Yes! All these people who think this and Love in an Elevator are among their best songs clearly don't know Aerosmith's early catalogue.
Brad's face when she was asking him about the mandolin. Hahaha.
Hehehe, maybe thinking ' wait, Lex always compares sounds to food' ' is mandolin Chinese?...âșïž
Hes been singing like this since the 70s
This song was in "Not another teen movie". It was spoofing Heath Ledger singing "can't take my eyes off you" in the movie "10 things i hate about you".
The ârun away-y-y-y-yayâ part is absolutely referencing the halfstep note fluctuation in âDream On.â
More Aerosmith!!
Love in an elevator, ragdoll, don't want to miss a thing, taste of India... So many!!
đ€đ„đ€đ„đ€
Agree, more Aerosmith!!
My favorite band of all time! I was blessed to see them 4 times. From the 1970's and into the 2000's. Aerosmith is a huge, deep rabbit hole to delve into. Love your reactions! Peace out.đđ¶â
Think this was in Not Another Teen Movie or something like that. A guy was trying to woo Janie on the football field and everyone screamed Janieâs got a gun and tackled her
Please watch the video when you have time! Graphic đ„ș
Agree and not bc it's graphic, but bc it visually tells the story of the lyrics as well as their choice in instrumental sounds. The sound of loading a gun for example. The discordant sounds when she's running and confused.
Aerosmith - Nobody's Fault! Their hardest rocker, alongside Round & Round!
One of Aerosmithâs best
Brad is so level headed, and lex is so energetic.
It was in Not Another Teen Movie. The chicks name was Janie and he was singing it in the bleachers as the security guard tackled her. Singing ârun away!â as she was running away. Hilarious, Super underrated movie.
"Love In An Elevator", "Dude Looks Like A Lady", and "Livin on the Edge" are probably my top 3 favorite Aerosmith songs đ”
First heard this from "Elmos gotta gun" classic
The intro to this song always reminds me of 'Don't Come Around Here No More' by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Defintely should check that out.
The video that played on MTV with this song was awesome. Thanks for the memory!
Lex: sounds like a Mandolin.
Brad: I donât even know what that is ⊠right back to the screen. So damn funny. â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
The video bring s the song together very well, even though itâs kinds dark ,a lot of people can relate to the message. Aerosmith has a ton of amazing songs, they are very diverse . Walk this Way With Run DMC video is a must .
"What it Takes" is my fave Aerosmith track... Lex will love it too, because he does the "high-pitched" thing a lot in it.
It is really an incredible song.
Mandolin is like a small guitar they use in bluegrass music along with the banjo. Watch Billy Strings playing Turmoil and Tinfoil for a reaction and you will see a mandolin and see an amazing video at the same time
Billy strings is awesome. Just found out about him.
I'm familiar with the mandolin being played in Celtic music and in Bluegrass. "Sweet Emotion" and "Dream On" are my fave Aerosmith tunes.
And this is the set of lyrics at the fade out of the song. Some of it is in the background, and you can hardly hear it...
[Outro]
Janie got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run (Honey, honey, what's the problem?)
Because Janie got a gun (Tell me it ain't right)
Janie got a gun (Was it Daddy's cradle robbing that)
Her dog day's just begun (Made you scream at night?)
Now everybody is on the run
Janie got a gun
Janie got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Early Aerosmith blows this awayâŠthe first 5 albums all made in the 1970âs is their best work
70s stuff is indeed amazing but Pump is still their best album imho.
Completely agree Peter. This was pop music compared to the older Aerosmith
Music video was Directed by David Fincher of "Seven" and "Fight Club" fame. The flashlight beams through the smoke was a cool effect and was seen first in this video and then in Seven.
Deeper than what you initially thought, Love the song
lol 3:36 that away yayayaya part sounds like the old Sunday night football theme song part that goes âthere's just one thing left to to say yayayayaâ
This is a song that shines a light difficult topic. You really should watch the video.
THANK YOU!!!! One of my favorite Aerosmith songs!!
Love aerosmith!!! Come full circle is a must listen!!!
Luv Lex 's commentary it's so colorful
THANK YOU!!! I have had this song in my head for weeks and couldnât remember who sang it so havenât been able to shift it as I could only remember the main bit
This song pulls you in to the story of the song
The guitar in the solo is a Gibson Chet Atkins SST. It was a thin bodied acoustic style guitar (not really an acoustic though) that came out in the 80s. Joe Perry played one (maybe with a Seymour Duncan pickup installed) through a Marshall amp. Very distinctive sound. Reminds me of a resonator guitar.
This was such a good song about such a bad thing! Thanks for sharing and stay real!!
He has been round single like since 1973 Aerosmith
The movie they are thinking of is Armageddon with Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler the daughter of Steven Tyler the lead singer of Aerosmith
Amazing band!!! đđ very disturbing and sad story!!!đąâ
More PleaseâŠTheir videos are amazing! The video is a mini-movie.
Please check out the Best old stuff of Aerosmith - Chip Away at the Stone - Mamma Kin - Toys in the Attic - Sweet Emotion - Dream On
It's in " Not Another Teen Movie " . The movie is like Scary Movie , it's a spoof on all the teen movies at the time . The song comes in when the jock is trying to get the girl to go with him to prom and he sings it at the football field where she is and all that happens is people start to freak out because they think she has a gun so she gets tackled by security . It's funny as hell !
Led Zeppelin "Kashmir" LIVE Celebration Day Concert. 20 million people signed up for tickets to this benefit Concert. Only 20,000 seats available. You'll understand why when you watch. Lex, you'll go crazy. Brad, you'll love the Drums
Iâm always impressed on how Lexi listens to the music, like she truly listen to the different layers of the song and recognizes odd instruments. Thatâs something composers do all the time!
I love the synths behind the "runaway" part...very similar to the synths they used in Kings and Queens.
âThat sounded like a mandolinâ⊠âI donât even know what that isâ đđđ. Love you guys đ€
For this one, the video adds A LOT. Great song and message.
Guys and girls watching this, hit the like button. These guys are making us revive or listen great music for the first time. Peace âïž
I love that he built a lot of sanctuaries called Janie's House for girls in this situation.
Everyone tries to figure out how Steven Tyler sings!! Even Axl Rose from Guns n Roses, who has an amazing voice, said he wanted to learn how to sing like Steven.
Loving the music
Steven Tyler ( the singer) defies logic with what he can do with his voice. Theyâve actually put cameras down his throat because to see how he does what he does and still canât figure it out. Heâs my favorite vocalist of all time. I absolutely love him. This song is more impactful with the video, itâs about child abuse. Sexual abuse. Very meaningful. Itâs about a girls whoâs dad is sexually abusing her and nobody believes her, not even her mom, so she gets a gun shot itâs him when he comes for her again and then she runs. She decided to take her power back and stop her sick father no matter the consequences.
Aerosmith Legendsđ
Brad got it. He 'spaining stuff to Lexi. Someone's gotta' do it.
Ya'll must do as many tracks you can from TOYS IN THE ATTIC. It's Loaded
Rut-Roh! They review "Janie's Got A Gun."
Daddy was her father. Real shame the two of you missed the meaning of the song.
The move: "Not Another Teen Movie."
"The people were singing it in the movie"... which created an active shooter situation. :D
I've noticed they tend to ignore negative lyrical subject matter. I think they don't want negatives at all in their reactions. I'll let them make that choice. Or possibly they really just didn't get it. Musically it's excellent.
@@chrisjamieson3452 I suspect they didn't get this one. Typically they'll at least hint that they understand and don't want to make it a topic. I think they are guessing it's a lover scorned situation... the lyrics video wasn't accurate, so they missed some important context.
I get paid to smoke weed on my CZcams channel cx
5:30...And there was me thinking a mandolin was a European instrument that was played like a guitar...how wrong was I? đ€Ł
Steven Tyler of Aerosmith in 1989 wrote a song about child abuse... in an era where people refused to even talk about it. Very controversial for that time...
By 1993 - 1995, the floodgates opened for artists who had experienced sexual abuse as minors - Tool's Maynard James Keenan wrote 'Prison sex' ... KoRn's Jonathan Davis wrote 'Daddy' ... even Megadeth's Dave Mustaine wrote 'Family tree' about the subject... Nirvana's Kurt Cobain wrote 'Rape me'...đȘ
It's true about Steven Tyler's voice...it's awesome crazy. Hell...he could stub his little toe on something and start screaming ouch and Joe Perry would run for his guitar and they would use it in an album and go platinum before day break!! đđ¶đ€Ł
Nice! Hello again from Finland! U listened Nighwish and Steven seagulls. Hanoi Rocks, Apocalyptica, HIM etc. +700 Heavy bands!
I wish you could have watched the official music video of this one. You should check it out.
Thereâs an episode of Who Do You Think You Are where Liv Tyler learns her genealogical roots and share her findings with Steven Tyler of African American origins and where he gets his musical talents.
I believe this song is on their Pump album and I saw that tour. Aerosmith had Skkid Row open up for them at the University of Texas Austin.
Circa February 1990
A mandolin is an eight stringed lute or guitar type instrument with usually a round backboard.
This song is so much more powerful with the video.
OMG...Those lyrics... even after all these years I don't hear 'dum dum' lol. Also, there is an Aerosmith - Guitar Hero. I have the Aero red and white guitar...sonewhere.
Chris Evans (yes, Captain America) sings this in "Not Another Teen Movie."
aerosmth's ability to evolve and adapt is practically unmatched in rock & roll
Dog Day refers to the famous - movie - if you don't know - then you don't know
Definitely not her pimp. Her dad. Abused her. In the video it shows her mom even knowing and letting it happen. So Janie takes matters into her own hands. Steven Tyler even has opened up shelters for women called janies house
Donât get me wrong, thatâs great, but Steven was a piece of shit in his day. I hope he did that to make up for it.
