    _Phantom_ was awesome. I know there's a faction that doesn't like it, but I think that's mainly the hardcore Broadway crowd that thinks the only way to see it is live on Broadway (even though most of them actually haven't), and they will never, ever, ever be satisfied with any movie version, even a recording of the Broadway cast themselves. For the rest of us, I thought it was an excellent movie version, and I love the singing and everything else they did with the movie.
    _P.S. I Love You_ is one of the very best romantic movies ever. I _don't_ have a personal connection story like the ones he describes, and it's still one of the most emotional, touching movies I've seen.
    I also saw that _How to Train Your Dragon_ was on the timeline, even though he didn't discuss it. I love that series, too. The voice acting in those is good in general, but Gerard Butler is really great in it. Stoick is such a fun voice and character with surprising depth; I'm betting and hoping he has a blast doing that.

    • @fleamag
      @fleamag Před 3 lety +10

      Thank you for saying that bit about Phantom. I was just talking to my boyfriend about that very same idea just the other day. Hardcore Broadway fans set expectations based on the original cast-so most of the time, it’s nearly impossible to impress them. I understand that feeling of possessiveness toward an iconic or favorite character-Phantom just so happens to be mine. Butler did an amazing job at portraying a Phantom that would exist in reality, a film, and honestly, it makes it that much more heart-wrenching. I really hope he somehow see’s these comments.

    • @Dan-Black
      @Dan-Black Před 3 lety +5

      @@fleamag - Exactly! I feel like movies at least have the potential to look and feel much more like real life, and that can pull me into the story and the characters more, rather than pretending not to notice the way they have to arrange the scenes and the characters so the audience can see everything, or focusing on that E6 that she didn't nail absolutely perfectly in a high-stress live performance.
      I think the part that bothers me most about the Broadway elitists is that they (at least the ones I know) demand everyone else do the same, and if you like any other version at all, _you're wrong_ and it's unacceptable. Well, no, it's not wrong. Let people enjoy things, especially when they're not looking for the same things you are. I'm fine with them preferring the live musical, and they're welcome to geek out to me about the things they like about the musical. But don't get mad or belittle my opinion when I like the movie. If we all liked exactly the same things, the world would be very boring.

      Phantom is not a crap because of the actors, but because of the director itself. The characters feel so empty, in think of me carlotta wears a different costume and christine has the same role even tho her costume changed, we also got to see that horrible scene where we see phantom hearing christine in think of me. He is not even ugly, which is the main point of the show, Christine is so "dead" I can see that Joel read the book and put that characters in a mix with the Broadway version, Poto book is so fuckin boring, so was the movie. The camera takes were awful, the places of the songs also, we have good points in there but mainly it's a bad movie, not a horrible one, but bad

    I started paying attention to Gerard Butler when I saw the Phantom. It was a unique experience watching that newly released movie in a large theatre. You know how people jump up at the end, when the credits begin to roll, and they try to get to their car or the restrooms first? Not that movie. At least 90% of the audience remained seated, the house lights were slowly coming up and there were whispers everywhere - "Who was that guy?" Then a remarkable thing happened...when the actors' names appeared, people began applauding and cheering. One true POTO fan kept yelling "Bravo!" This was at a movie! I got the same goosebumps that everyone got during this experience and was applauding too. It was wonderful! I am still stunned at how the critics dissed this movie. The fans loved it, so phooey to the "critics," because they criticize because they can't act themselves.

    We need a movie with Gerard Butler and James McAvoy playing older and younger versions of a character. It would be perfect.

    I Absolutely love Gerard Butler for he puts true identities in his carefully chosen depicted characters. I believe he is a rare find in talent and skill. To translate. So much heart and soul in a short time in human emotions is fantastic and special. Thank-you Mr. Butler.

    I love Gerard Butler 's singing voice! He is my favorite Male singer in the whole world! It is the sweetest sound I ever heard in my life. I could hear Gerard Butler sing all day long. I love it! After watching phantom his voice was in my head for days after! 😍😍😍

      @@casey-capri2914 everyone hears differently sounds and interpretations of them. So, Gerard Butler singing to your ears is noise. His singing to my ears is music. That's ok to feel like it's noise because it is noise to you. It's just the most beautiful singing I ever heard. It doesn't mean I have bad taste, it means that it is not your taste is all. Thank you for your honesty!

    i know he wont see this but i love his portrayal of the phantom soso much 🥺🥺 i relate to the character nd i can feel the pain and emotion in everything he says and sings .. i pity and sympathize with him more than any other character. i think its truly beautiful how an actor can make me care so deeply for a fictional character and it makes me amazed every single time i watch it and thats why its my favorite movie!

    My first brush with Phantom was the movie version and it changed my life forever. It's been my absolute favorite for almost 15 years now. The stage Phantoms are great too but he's still my favorite Phantom. ❤ So Gerry if you think no one connected with you as Phantom-you are so wrong, sir!

    Im also Scottish and really love all Gerards movies. I love his story how he decided to go to London with no experience just a feeling that acting was his destiny. Im sure others have done this journey and returned empty handed but he made it and that story alone should be a movie in itself. Ive appeared in some episodes of bargain brits in sun on ch5 while working as a singer in Benidorm and would also love a big break. Gerards story gives hope to those who look for more out of life.

    I loved Gerard Butler in Reign of Fire, Lara Croft, Timeline, Phantom of the Opera, 300, Law Abiding Citizen, Coriolanus, Machine Gun Preacher, Den of Thieves.
    I should probably check out Mrs. Brown, Harrison's Flowers, Dear Frankie, & The Vanishing.

    • @graememowat2322
      @graememowat2322 Před 3 lety +3

      The Vanishing is fantastic, but you should 100% see RocknRolla. It's an ensemble movie with a cast gathered before they became huge. It was intended to be a trilogy Guy Ritchie came up with, but with Butler, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy becoming megastars shortly after it was difficult to get them back and probably for a decent price.
