Jude Law Breaks Down His Career, from 'The Holiday' to 'The New Pope' | Vanity Fair - Zábava
Honestly, the way he speaks is so calming and interesting: he is always so enthusiastic and almost philosophical. I could listen to him speak for hours.
Try Jeff Goldblum.
actors work on their voice and speaking on a daily basis it's their job and passion haha
@@martameercat3770 Jeff Goldblum is more like a psychedelic drug. Jude seems more level-headed. Both have their own charms!
if both lads (Law & Goldblum) were existentialist philosophers, Jude would be like Kierkegaard, calm and collected Jeff would be more of Sartre, he has this way of craziness. hahaha!
@@drunkpervertedmonk Somebody brought up casting Goldblum as Sartre in a biopic and it makes sense!!!
I’m SO glad that he validates that he enjoyed doing the Sherlock films with RDJ, because their on screen chemistry was superb and a real rapport is shown.
I was obsessed with the duo upon the release of the first movie. I'm sure many of their interviews are CZcams but they definitely formed a bromance while finished Holmes and Watson and were confronted by it often in interviews.
can't wait for the 3rd one, whoop whoop!
To be honest I haven't seen the films since they came out and I hardly remember anything about them; what I do remember is enjoying the characters of Holmes and Watson as played by Downey Jr and Jude Law.
100%
@@YorkPattie I still miss them together.
Nothing more satisfying than watching a legendary actor have such humble memories and modesty to live and talk within with such earnest respect
Andy Serkis and Ben Kingsley also did episodes of this series and they give off that same energy. Awesome, calm and humble. (Edit - Those episodes are by GQ, not Vanity Fair, my mistake!)
"There is a pressure, but you dissolve the pressure by working hard." - Jude Law
Extremely humble an honest with such love for golden eyes and munching on sacred snacks. Be there in about an hour. Meet us at 7:30
Jude Law is timeless. His acting is phenomenal and his voice was made for audiobooks!
Agree
its been 21 years and jude in talented mr ripley is still the hottest thing ever
Very long movie but one of my favorites
YESSSS
Besides Alain Delon as Ripley himself.
I like the part where he gets killed...lol just kidding great movie.
I still watch it occasionally to get a gander at Mr. Law!!! Yikes! Hotsy Totsy....
Rise of The Guardians is such an underrated movie. I know it's animated but Jude Law was the perfect villain.
One of my all time favourites. He and everyone else is soo good in that film.
i'm so happy to hear other people feel the same as i do about this movie!
Don't know why it's not more famous or liked movie... my favorite animated movie after The Incredibles. The story is absolutely marvellous.
Same feeling!
Boogeyman, I am the Boogeyman, children fear of me, i love that movie
Ironically the fact he's so good looking makes you forget how great an actor he is
That's not true..my opinion !
"There is a pressure, but you dissolve the pressure by working hard." - Jude Law

You are awesome. Thank you.
Soooo helpful, thanks!!!!
I just realized something, it's just him speaking. I've seen many of these types of videos of actors speaking of their career and it just hit me how refreshing it is that there isn't an interviewer asking questions. Especially when it's the interrupting type.
Yes, agreed. Refreshing and light
He is the reason my 9yr old son is named Jude. My husband tells everyone it's after the Beatles song but it is because of this man and his amazing movies!
This is by far the best episode of this Vanity Fair series I've seen. This is how I wish all actors would talk about their roles - giving us fun anecdotes from their time on set, talking about their costars, telling us how much fun they had. Jude Law is such a joy to listen to in this video.
I could watch him read the phonebook.
IM DYING AT THIS OH MY GOD
Same 😍🤣
Me too 😂
What's a phonebook??? Lol!!!! Jk
@@carriejustice7433 I was waiting for that! LOL!
Jude is so breathtakingly handsome in glasses. His voice is incredible and it was perfect to be Lemony Snicket! Loved him in The Holiday
Hello Michelle, fancy a chat with me?... send me your email.
Quite simply , this has been the best interview in this series. It is so refreshing to hear an actor who is so enthused by his profession and has great respect for his fellow actors and directors. He literally lit up my small I phone screen with his passion ! A true national treasure!
The Holiday is my favorite Christmas movie. Watch it every year. It's my family's favorite too.
Hello Mary, fancy a chat with me?... send me your email.
Literally just watched that movie and it is truly awful.
@@peachylady AMEN.
To me, it was awful. So tedious, and so long (over 2 hours). It's like a glorified, more expensive, horrid Hallmark movie. Never again.
Oh please, people. Negative Neils and Nancys need not apply. I, for one, think The Holiday is one of the cutest movies.
I adore his voice. His narration in A Series of Unfortunate Events and in Grand Budapest is just so wonderfully soothing and cosy.
Jude Law is one of these rare actors who is interesting to watch and listen to. Because he himself seems genuinely interested in what he talks about. Some would say - it's his career, of course he will be interested. But I assume many of us have seen lots of actors here, and most of them show no enthusiasm if not to say that they are so over it! And I believe it's totally Jude's personal merit that he respects his audience and himself enough to appear as his genuine, passionate, naturally humorous, intelligent and giving self!
I simply love Gattaca!! It is probably one of the most underated filme EVER because, in fact, it is incredible in all aspects: cast, plot, colors, etc.
Gilson Bicudo totally agree, such a great film. Still can’t get over the fact it didn’t get an Oscar in best picture category
Andrew Nicoll who directed Gattaca later wrote the Truman Show which starred Jim Carrey and was directed by Peter Weir.
One of my favorites for sure. And very timely.
It's actually a cult movie. If you know cinema, you know this movie.
I don't think it's underated. It's a frickin masterpiece and I don't know anybody thinking anything lesser about it
He’s intoxicating. Not just his looks, but his personality, mannerisms, and intelligence. No wonder he’s such a fantastic actor.
It’s nice to hear him say he read to his children-children who are read to become readers. One of my happiest and earliest memories is sitting next under my grandfather’s arm (he was a carpenter, so it was a huge, solid arm) as he read me _The Three Billygoats Gruff_ (or whatever the proper title is-it’s been 60 years) and feeling so safe and so loved.
I just realized something... "The New Pope" has an English actor portraying an American pope and an American actor portraying an English pope.
Jude Law, starting out:
“You’re a pretty-boy, great for now, but no real future in the industry.”
Jude Law:
“Hold my beer.”
Debonair for sure!
Man, I can listen to this guy talk for hours without end. He speaks with such eloquence and passion. ✨
Is there a two-hour version of this? Asking for me. I want to see more.
He sounds like a very good book. I honestly never saw him as iconic as this before. He makes life sound like it should be interesting.
that's a great phrase: "he sounds like a very good book."
I, too, want a job where they pay you to get a suntan, learn sailing and the saxophone in Ischia.
I typed that into a job site - fingers crossed.... :-)
Alfie(2004) is such an underrated movie!!
Yeah too bad he didn't talk about that one
i don't think so
@@angelica8000 ... and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evbil"
I was just waiting for alfie. That movie was amazing.
Now make Sherlock 3.
As far as I know it's planed for 2021
Maybe when RDJ is free they can make it
@@carolinesch. w'hoo!
yes please
It’s happening! They’ve been waiting since Downey was free to do it! But they’re set to start filming this year. Jude law is also coming back and dexter fletcher who did rocketman is directing this time around.
Such a talented, eloquent and gorgeous man. My wig never stood a chance.
Love this actor because he is so humble and grateful about every job he landed + I like how he always tells great stories (some funny and some really fascinating) + let's face it this guy is handsome (it's bonus)
Hello Pauline, nice analogy, fancy a chat with me?... send me your email.
I didn't know I was a huge Jude Law fan until now, that I realized I have watched all of his movies 😮
This isn't all his movies.
@@13strong I know. Coz apart of this list, I have watched a few others.
He's way too good looking to be 47. Aging like a fine wine
Deniz K he's only 47? He looks older, I think it's because of his hair (or the lack of). But don't get me wrong, he's hot!
My thought was: he's getting old. Not in a negative way, but yeah, he is.
Deniz K same age as my mother he was born on 1972
Deniz K 47 is not that old
Im 46
Ah sweetie life begins at 45. Trust me.
I find Jude Law's presence on screen so calming and comforting as he was in many beloved films of my childhood. There are just some actors that leave such a powerful impression on you. There is something about him that inspires me creatively.
I love that Jude and Robert got along so well, it really shows in the movie, it just looks like they had fun making it
great interview - jude is charisma personified!
Jude Law is so compelling here -- I kinda wish this video had been longer!
The first film that I watch from Jude Law was the "Enemy at the gates" and it was incredible.
Same here!!
Awful film
Rachel Weisz ❤
I love that movie!
I first watched jude on A.I artificial intelligence
I must be ovulating. Can't stop watching Jude Law videos.
I'm glad they let him talk about AI. What a horribly underrated film. Law was fantastic in it.
Yes, I loved that one. Loved the melancholy, the slow pacing, the philosphical ideas.. Not for everyone, not perfect, but I loved it.
Gattica is still on my list of favourite movies and mostly because of Jude Law.
Weird that you misspell your favourite movie.
The first film I saw from Jude Law was Closer and I completely fell in love with him
I saw it opening weekend in a theater in Boston, and during the opening scene, the girls next to me sighed loudly and said "Jude Law!!!". My thoughts exactly, girls!
Closer was my introduction to Clive Owen. As great as the cast is, Clive was on a completely different level. He owns that movie.
Great film but sooo stressful to watch!
I love how much details he kept in mind, love this dude!
His performance as the hired killer photographer in Road to Perdition was great
Still my favorite movie to date.
I think he's like, the male Meryl...as in, deserves an Oscar nom every time he's on screen.
He never falters.
That's really not true. He's done some real dud films. He's got a pretty patchy career and some of his acting has been, if not bad, then samey. But there have been some standout roles and movies.
@@13strong you are mistaken....I didn't say all his FILMS are classics...and Meryl can definitely be samey
I stand by what I said...Jude's cruising altitude is Oscar-worthy
@@theblueangel28 Eh? You said he deserves an Oscar nom every time he's on screen (really? For Alfie? For Sky Captain?) and that he never falters. He definitely does.
I love him
My grandma's favourite movie is the holiday, she watches it at least 10 times a year, and that is me playing it save with the number.
GOD Bless You and your Grandmother
Same for my mom! She has her own list of feel-good movies that she constantly rewatches, and the Holiday is one of them (also the most endurable for me, lol)
There's some crazy edits in this. In some cases they cut 6 times within a single sentence. I wonder how what he really said in those bits?
Probably just stuttering
Common in interviews, they'll cut out every "um" and "ahh" and "like," etc. Makes you sound much more coherent than people typically are.
At one point they just cut out the end of his sentence. At 17:29 he says "I'd go running in the morning, when it wasn't" [cut] "We stayed all of us together in this little hotel."
presence over projection....brilliantly stated.
Jude is one love! I've always thought that he is so genuine. He is not a show-off and attention seeker. This interview is precious, it's just great to see that someone you admire is hard worker and a modest, decent person, despite being so famous and handsome. I wish him all a great career and recognition. He's still young (my age, hee hee)
Being a Russian guy, i like his British accent very much indeed, great inspiration and acting and language he speaks, humble actor, one of the best in modern time
He is such a talented actor and he's always made great choices in his career. I really wish they had talked about Wilde. That was the first film I came to know him and begin falling in love with him. Ripley sent that to another level. :)
Jude Law is like a more handsome Sting
Victor Lindvall I was thinking the same thing😂
@@welcometothemovies9157 A Sting autobiographical movie would be awesome
Or Damon Albarn.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't talk about Wilde
Oh yes! SUCH a good film. I remember my Mum saying, "That young man is going to go far" - how right she was!
Maybe Stephen Fry will appear instead!
too selective a memory for my taste. Is he ashamed of the "unmentioned/glossed over" films ? Why ?
It made me laugh a bit that he was like “aaand people don’t really talk about those today” I’m assuming Wilde was part of that mix
I can hearJude Law speak all day long. His voice is soooo soothing and interesting. 😌
Would love to see Viggo Mortensen on one of these
Yes!
He's so deep and so humble. I think I'm in love with him.
The first movie I saw him in was Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and I couldn’t get over how handsome he was and I was so bummed his time in the film was so short
Actually, Jude is such a great theater actor. I enjoyed seeing him on stage more than anything. As an actor he goes deep. He was great in Ripley, but Matt Damon was incredible.
My all time favorite Jude Law movie is Alfie. Love the movie.
Yes. He looks amzing in that movie. I am sad it isn't on this
I was waiting for it, then the timeline moved on...
Same here! I love it, he was iconic in that role.
I’m surprised Alfie isn’t on this list. That was my first Jude Law movie and I loved it!
Jude Law is the real Hot Priest! I love his performance so much in Closer.
I’ve been in love with him for years but DEAR GOD what is going on with the platinum hair
Erin Whewell I’m amazed he has hair left actually
It's for a TV series called "The Third Day"
It’s for his new project he’s filming.
Looking like Sting
hit the wall HARD. Men age so badly
We watched Gattaca for film analysis in school and he literally stole my heart in that film!
😂 that's funny😂
Hope you got your heart back.
@@13strong yeah, good thing too or I'd be dead.
we watched it in school too for biology class, not sure how it relates to that, i think the teacher didnt wanna teach lol
@@nickn7939 Well I mean if you were learning DNA and inheritance you might see a connection or if your teacher was talking about reproductive tech like IVF since it has some ethical considerations that link up with it.
You're teacher may have also just been too bored to teach that lesson too.
Every role Jude works on is memorable and dynamic. One of my all-time favorites.
I was smiling during the whole interview! Hands down my most favorite actor!!!
Jude Law is an amazing actor. His performance in Closer often goes under the radar but he was pretty good in this movie.
I have forgotten how amazing he is. Such a brilliant actor, beautiful man and marvellous voice.
Me realizing that, when I was a kid, I didn’t know that it was Jude Law in both Sherlock Holmes & Hugo ^^’
His best acting is in Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition and I wanted to hear him talk about it so bad.
he is such an intellectual, love it
Is he? How so?
I think storyteller is more accurate.
i wish this included Wilde (1997)
Jude Law reminiscing over his brilliant career for 25' is a bit of an extravagant delight. What an insanely attractive human being 🥺🥺 thank you, VF
I'm still amazed that it's even possible to look like that 😮
And I don't mean to focus only on that, I know he's also a great actor and a great guy.
The looks part is just so hard to believe 😂
My Favorite Jude Law films are Gattaca, Sherlock, and Closer.
Great format! I especially like the way the timeline is illustrated at the beginning, panning to Law's face in profile.
oh man, I never thought of how Jude's movies were a huge part of my life. Like, each one of these I remember leaving an impact on me. I'm really grateful for this man's existence ❤
Wish he had talked about Enemy at the Gates a little more! He’s really had some fantastic roles, such a broad career. A real talent.
I enjoy all of these career breakdowns but this one is exceptional. So open and real. Brilliant. Thank you!
I forgot how many exceptional films he’s been in
No Road to Perdition? I'll wait here with my outrage.
sooooo creepy
Sarah Chun oh my gosh, i know!
right!?
That’s one of my favorite Tom hanks films
Good point! I forget about that film. Great movie Tom hanks, Paul Newman. Great soundtrack.
I really enjoyed this video but how did they skip over his role in Anna Karenina? He was incredible in that film and I would've loved to hear him talk about it
Oh, me too! He was the best part of that movie, giving me such sympathy for Karenin. I'd love to hear his comments on the visual style and production design of AK.
You left out so many incredible films it was heart breaking. Contagion, Enemy at the Gates, Road to Perdition, Repo Men (all time fav.), A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sky Captain, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Wisedom of Crocodiles aka Immortality... the list is seemingly endless.
What a truly delightful man. Full of passion, articulate, funny and supremely talented.
I love listening to him talk
He should have won an Oscar for Cold Mountain. That’s the movie that made me take him seriously as an actor and not just admire him for his looks.
What about Wilde?! Jude is so talented and makes great choices.
... and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" ?
My favorite Jude Law film is 'Breaking and Entering.' Wish he'd talked about that one. Highly recommend it! We really need a Part 2 of this to cover all the great JL films that weren't covered here. Shamone Vanity Fair!!! ;-)
His performance in Doctor Parnassus, although it was a short segment, was brilliant, and he hardly has any lines, but his physicality is inspiring.
I can’t get enough of Jude law. He is sooooo charming, sweet and brilliant!👏♥️
love his voice in rise of the guardians. He gave the villain Pitch such calm, deep but also charming young voice.
True. It wasn't very intimidating, but it definitely captured people's attention.
That F. Murray Abraham story is legend.
lol that bit about him thinking that the “author” role in Grand Budapest being a lead role then getting disappointed is funny and cute
Gutted they didn’t talk about Road to Perdition. That’s my favourite film of his.
Ive seen Jude Law films since I was at least 15. I officially feel old lol. Also when did Jude start looking like 80s Sting? lol
MATHHEW TOMPKINS omg he does! 🤣
Ohh dear..he does indeed.
Future Sting biopic! Take notes, film makers!
"old" ok
petmarina sooo you read what I wrote and THATS what you take offense with? Lol
i want the full uncut version of this. i don’t care how long it is, he’s one of my favorite actors and i would love to hear everything.
*THE BEST ONE SO FAR THAT I HAVE SEEN
Completely agree
I also liked him in Road to Perdition.
Great video! Wish he also talked about Road to Perdition and Sky Captain.
He really is a charming one, in and off character!
Totally!
Loved this interview, I didn't realize how many of JL's films I've seen. And what a great guy he is!
Wish they'd included Anna Karenina, that movie had such an interesting visual style, I'd love to hear his comments on it. Plus he gave the best performance in it, honestly. Gave me such heart for Karenin.
