SplaaterCat doing God's work by saving me from hours of staring at steam store pages
But he's also a devil that keeps your wishlist constantly growing and tempting you with another new game that looks great but you just don't have time for.
"Just one more, it's only wafeer-theen!"
Ab. So. Lutely.
For real, I'd much rather watch some Splatty vids than window shop through the steam garbage barge
Agreed
Hes soo bad 4 my monthly game allowance.. my wife is furious at him 😉
The Sega Genesis Castlevania was Bloodlines. I remember playing that over a friends house since he was the only Genesis on the street.
👍
I wish there were more RPG style games these days where you can go home.and work on the home base /town you've been building up, talk to the people you've recruited etc. I miss that in rpgs
If you like top down indie pixels, you could try out Serin Fate. Very cool combat systems and has a light stardew-like base building but very focused on function.
@@Gidon147 actually I did have my eye on that for a while, might have to check it out.
What I had in mind though were things like suikoden, breath of fire, never winter nights 2, dragon age, even fable although a bit different was rewarding to make choices which affected your kingdom
Your comment made me reminisce Breath of Fire for the SNES. Great game overall, but I really enjoyed the village building part of it.
Best franchise I can think of at the top of my head is Dragon Quest Builders. I played the first one and really liked it.
Loop Hero is kinda like that but its more of a rogue-like.
This definitely brings back nostalgia for the old Genesis and SNES days.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was and still is my favorite side scrolling rpg. When I got that for PS1 I think I played it for 4 or 5 months before I found out about the upside down castle. That game gave me hundreds of hours of fun.
Oh man this game is right up my alley. Good coverage on this one, Splat.
The immediate gameplay loop is enticing, the mix of exploration, fight and gathering works well. The upgrade system, level up and class variety each add a layer of enjoyment that make me even more interested.
The Sega Genesis game is called Castlevania Bloodlines. Was a great game, indeed.
Noyah reminds me of some of the great RPG arcade games of old -like Cadash
Reminded me of Alisia's Dragon.
@@godoftwinkies574 Totally forgot about that game! Good stuff.
Just wanted to say that I recently discovered your channel and find your coverage of games really interesting and helpful! Just followed both this game and Book of Travels on Steam.
Needs some polishing, specially on enemies, but it seems fun.
Fun fact: Noyah is kinda like "noia" which is a slang in portuguese for people that like some "greens". So Mist of Noyah... Well lol
The idea of a Metroidvania resource gathering game is SUPER cool.
Movement of the character looks very similar to Castlevania SOtN.. very fluid.. i love it
Ans thats all....:)
Thanks for the vid Splatt
Morning Splatty! Keep up the good work!
Been playing this game for years glad to see it getting the attention it deserves 🖤💫🖤
Bought this in December, played it for about 10 hours. It has potential, but it feels very bare bones and unrealized. I like it, dont get me wrong, but it is way too early of a release even given it is early access. You can tell the framework is there, but the GRIND to get the best tier of gear and the way to get there is so convoluted. I like the character perspective and playing a particular class for a while playthrough. It is good, but not great and it really feels like certain classes are more "equipped" for the current version of the game than others.
I guess the way to put it is that with older games we have a certain level of "jankiness" which can be endearing. This game has a certain level of jank to it, that is indicative of it being Early Access but is also due to the game design. Combat is extremely floaty. You take damage via a hitbox with little or no indication of any interaction happening, meanwhile the best way to kill enemies is via range or a passive proc "stun locking in melle." I like it, dont get me wrong, but even as Early Access it is very rough around the edges, it needs some real polish before it will become appealing.
The town system especially needs to be matured, because as of the last patch it still feels disjointed. When you make a character and eventually clear the first forest level, you appear in town with EVERYTHING there. The crafting stations, enchanting, cooking, farming, shops, and everything is just . . . there. The sense of progression or the town being tied to any sort of development mechanic is nonexistant. It is one thing if the devs intend you to have everything available from the start and it is shown to you via quests, that would be fine. The current system does NOTHING and you just have to walk into the houses or building, check to see what is there and thats that.
Perk Points are "per-world" as in you can roll a different seed, a different world file and then min max the stats you want but rolling new world files to get each perk point you want.
Each elemental roll or magical attribute only works for one of each of the classes, so chain crafting to get the exact magical damage affix you want so it actually impacts your character. Blood does nothing for any of the other classes, meanwhile fire is the same. It's ok if this was an Action RPG where those stat bonuses could improve weapon damage or partially scale something within your characters kit, but having them be completely wasted? Eh ....
Movement is great, I like that you can double jump and wall kick off into secret areas which might have chests or a permanent powerup. This is the one thing that is almost perfect, the movement is very reminiscent of the best which metroidvania's have to offer.
The night time enemies are the best way to level up early.
Hey there Splatter! Thanks for the video! :D
Dang it Splatty, making me spend more money lol. Looks great, can't wait to check it out myself, great vid as always!
Best one ever was Castlevania - Symphony of the Night. Unreal depth to that game!
Followed and Wishlisted, thanks again Splat. Did right by me with Vampire Survivors, and considering making this my next purchase.
lmao!!! 8:11 That engineer trying to earn that extra money on the corner
This was an instant buy. Been looking for a game like this for a while now.
Did you get it? Have you played much? seems like most the reviews are middling right now and i was trying to decide if i wanted to play around with it.
@@CatMandiano I did and have been playing for the past day or so. I like it so far. There are a few interface things that are quirky when it comes to crafting but no deal breakers for me.
Yeah we’re gonna need more of this
The Castlevania game he mentioned is Castlevania: Bloodlines. It was the only Castlevania game on Genesis. A lot of people played it until SotN released and changed EVERYTHING.
People don't remember Castlevania Bloodlines? smh.
This game looks great btw. Love your videos. Can't get enough of these underground indie games, even if not all of them are super top quality.
The blue haired girl's hand in the intro screen bugged me way more than it should have
The intro screen bothered me also, especially declaring "early acess".. Am I a bad person?
Castlevania Bloodlines is the game you were thinking of, for the Sega Genesis.
I still have it ;)
I like all the different elements at play here. Might have to check this game out when it releases.
I hope the day/night cycle doesn't also act like a timer on events/quests/etc. I hate games with time limits, especially games that reward exploration and grinding.
Respawns do suck too...I much prefer being able to clear an area Diablo style and the only way things respawn is if you exit the game and re-enter.
This looks pretty impressive, the only thing that concerns me is the timer. If you're constantly forced to return to the village at a certain time and repeat the undead defense battles I feel like that would take away from my enjoyment of exploration and resource gathering.
It would be nice if you could just open teleports and fast travel back and forth.
Maybe if they don't happen every night it would be fine. Like if an old wizard in the village warns of a rising miasma every few days.
Yeah if they do add that they should definitely imitate the Diablo 2 town portal system where the portal you open remains open and allows you to return from town back to the area you left. That may already be in place but I wasn't sure from the video. Also like the idea of it not being every single night, could likely get repetitive real quick. Maybe every other or every few nights would be better.
I have Castlevania Bloodlines. It's actually sitting in my old genesis right now. And you're right, it was a great game.
metroidvania with base building, sweet!
Hope your real-life stuff is resolved, or gets resolved soon and well, best wishes always!
Underwear-cloth for the win! I've never been into side-scrollers really but this could change my mind, looks like soooo much to potentially do (as it gets finished).
18:38 Watching that zombie animation.. Crass I know, but my mind jumps to the zombie saying boobies instead of brains.
I have watched Splatty enough to feel nostalgia when I haven't watched him in a while, and I hear "WHAT'S UP GUYS AND GALS! And welcome back to the Nerd Castle, today in the world of indie games."
I miss the "Hai'doo!"
Definitely gonna get this game. Exactly my type of game. The question is do I wait for more updates. It does feel a bit early.
Looking fun. I generally don't like these Metrovania looking games, but this is interesting enough for a whirl.
DAM! This game is tight!
I believe the Castlevania game you were thinking of was Castlevania Rondo of Blood if i remember correctly.
Hahaha love that you are a Paladin. If I play an RPG, I'm a Paladin. Always.
Amazing
There was a Castlevania on the good old C64 too :P
Castlevania Bloodlines? I loved that game.
Badass game.
Badass game
8:10 Ah, yes, I've heard of these people who sell screws on the corner.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night with extra stuff. Totally awesome 👌
Perks, talents, crafting, combat, exploration and more? When will this game go on sale?
Doesn't seem like armor updates your character model... Can anyone confirm?
Bold of the game to assume I have friends... looks good though another wishlist to follow for 1.0 launch.
this giving me the vibe of actraiser
I wonder how this runs on controller. Anyone know?
That looks like it could be fun. I'm curious how the mage character plays.
We need an indie game with a dwarven paladin just so we can watch Splay lose his shit. :P
Changing the decrease of quest progression because you used some of the resources would have to depend on the reason for the quest. If someone ask you to gather it then why would they be happy with less then what they asked for?
a little is better than none
This game looks amazing. Sadly, the steam page review isn't looking so good now.
Steam reviews are recovering as the last two updates rolled in. The thing was, the Game was actually pretty much finished, when the Netcode turned out to not work with steam and opened a pinata of bugs which was a major setback as it led to many many delays. Seeing that they actually recovered from this is impressive in its own right.
@@Gidon147 Isn't there also reviews complaining about the game design and even Devs admitting those design flaws with a promise of fixing the issues in the update? Have the update rolled in yet? (I read some reviews complaining about melee being useless, because boss' trap is doing more damage than it suppose to.)
Also, there are a few reviews complaining there isn't much to do and the NPCs aren't even having much impact with the world buildings and storylines. Is that true in your opinion? I kept seeing the repeating line of something along with "this game isn't giving what it promised on the store page."
Sorry for all the questions, but this games looks intriguing and I am kind of looking forward to give it a try if not because of the negative reviews stopping me from doing so.
Thanks again for saving me some cashola from this dumpster fire.
If this game was available on mobile. I'd be addicted for sure. 🤣
I always found it weird that the "holy knight" archetype was called a Paladin. Since Paladins themselves were 12 fictional knights loyal to King Charlemagne.
Crusader would be a more appropriate name, since many of them were Monks. To me a Paladin would be more apt as the Kings personal retinue.
Interesting never knew that before. Crusades gives the stigma if you call anything a Crusader then you are automatically assumed as someone whose invading a territory for religious reasons etc. Not all Crusaders were knights.
@@Matteosnet True that not all Crusaders were Knights. But if you're a member of a Crusading Order, Than they're always a Holy Knight. Plus you have to think that they didn't think of themselves as invaders, from their perspective they were reclaiming the holy land. Plus even after the Crusades, those Monastic Orders still existed. Some to this day.
Wish there was map so you could see what you have explored in each area
According to the title screen, the blue-haired elf lady is clearly an expert at tickling balls...
The home screen knight has egg eyes....
🖤
So is this made by the same creators of Scarlet tower?
26:23 unintentional fall damage test.
As I agreed with you that a physical, non-magic paladin would be a cool idea, i realized how magic became a kinda boring standard and its much cooler to be just as powerful as a mage without the need for fancy majicks.
Can this game play in android(hand phone)???
Anyone know the chances of being on console?
This reminds me of Contra
This got gamepad support?
Could you bring more of this game?thanks.
It was called Castlevania: Bloodlines.
If you like hitting rocks instead of fighting enemies or traversing ANY semblance of interesting level design, have I got the game for you!
No fall damage? So you’re saying this cat can’t splat?
This game still needs a good bit of polish and bug fixes. The flashing menus under the portrate during equipment change was kinda hard on the eye.
If you had a genesis, you likely played Castlevania Bloodlines. If you did not have a Genesis, you owe it to yourself to play Castlevania Bloodlines. Its a very good Castlevania game.
The graphics are sort of a cross between Simon's Quest and Actraiser, but has more of a Starbound/Terraria feel. It's very pretty, and I'm a major sucker for the hidden paths. I absolutely agree with making quest resource stats static so using them doesn't effect the quest progress. I also agree with the alignment skills. Everyone should have a dark, light, and chaos alignment, effecting their abilities. That can happen at a much later date, if ever, though. I just loved the idea. Everything else looks awesome, though. I love the animations, and I love the cartoonish NPCs. I could easily see myself sitting around and fishing for an hour... Plus... was that dude selling seeds?
Has this game been completed? Sounds like it's been abandoned by they devs... was really looking forward to it.
Castlevania 2 = What a terrible night for a curse
Wait, that's Pain.
Why are there no adventurer games where you play the whole group?
Splat, please. My wallet can only be so empty.
I remimber this game,I got it when it 1st came out and it was junk and I refunded it, wow, its come some ways. I might buy it agen and give it a try agen
He is kinda like a Paladin I guess? If he is using magic.
The character is absolutely a Paladin, his first spell heals allies in addition to dealing damage and has "divine" in the name. Also a cross appears over him when he uses it.
@@MarkDeSade100 thank you for replying. I see that now. I bought the game after this video.
everyone forgets about starbound
“Attention to detail” proceeds to equip a shield on a character with a 2h sword with no visual representation 😂 Game looks good though
This looks painfully like a free to pay mobile game port.
Check out "Warm Snow" 100% amazing "Hades" like game with a samurai : )
Iam a typical archer type guy
RASTAN!
Fun fact, "noia" is a Brazilian slang for drug addict, so when I heard "mists of noia" I did a double check lol
Looks like this is screaming for co-op option
Smells like SNES...
megaman terraria les gooo
This definitely feels like a game that focused too much on looking nice and has really shallow gameplay.
The game has 5 playable classes with skill trees, resource gathering, equipment crafting, alchemy, perk points, quests, a defense mode and multiplayer. That's too "shallow" for you?
@@MarkDeSade100 Except nothing is really well fleshed-out and balanced. You can have all of the buzz words, and still have a subpar game.
this is just a plain on roguelite
too many elves.
No necromancer? Poop.
Definitely kind of boring to watch the combat right now, since the enemies are pretty much "just keep walking towards you while you mash the button" with a little "shoots something at you while you mash the button." Hope to see that improved soon. Because otherwise it's very nice looking. Though in some ways, that concerns me. You really need to get the game _playing_ great before you focus on how it looks. If you sink a lot of time/money into looks first, it locks you in from having to rethink things that would cause you to have to throw away that art.
welcome to AAA gaming
@@nejiyagami9724 I'm not sure I really follow your point. This isn't AAA gaming. And placeholder graphics are usually used in AAA and indie games to get the mechanics down first.
Playing platformers with M&K... I'll never understand it.
Looks like it could be a fun hack-n-slash game. The animation quality is a bit of a mixed bag though. The attack animations look nice, but the main character moves more like he is a ninja rather than someone in full-plate armor. The bouncy idle animation is just weird - what is the point of that? The mining/chopping animation makes the character look like he is auditioning for a Michael Jackson music video.
nah
