- Watch along with the Tunic Developers as they react to this World Record Speedrun.
As of the time of this recording, speedrunner Twikax has logged the world record time for speedrunning Tunic. Thanks to Tunic's Lead developer Andrew Shouldice and Audio Director Kevin Regamey for sitting down for this speedrun! Tunic has been out for only a short time, but speedrunners are already finding faster and faster times.

So not only do the Devs think about gameplay, replayability, sound, story, lore but they also think about speedrunners........ Utter dedication that shows 👍 10/10 played and completed it myself.
Finji's titles are often made this way, even Chicory: A Colorful Tale's devs went into specifics on Twitter about how many frames will it take for your character to do certain actions, or options to skip through hundreds of dialogues in just seconds, despite the game being just a story-focused instead of competitive one.
Not only that... it goes even deeper. They thought about people who like ARGs too.
Yes that's literally their job is to think of all those things lol
@@cainification not really though as most Devs make a game and call it that
I'd say the best way to carry for speed runners is to create a great engine. Some mechanics cannot be put into the game, they must be phenomenologic.
"This was here the whole time?", this is me every 5 minutes playing this awesome game
At 9:17 Andrew asks "why the quit to title?"
It looks like quit to title reverts runner's health bar max to full. It had been drained to zero by the miasma.
But why though? The current health did not restore and the max health will restore on death anyway
@@Stdvwr bro, if he died he would have reset and spawned back to checkpoint, so it would be entirely pointless. He menu jumped to reset and spawn in the same room.
@@obscure_genesis which he did after the boss fight. Your point? He did not heal up until that point so he doesn't need that max HP
@@Stdvwr no he didn't? Click the time stamp, he reset his max hp way before the boss, when he just left the miasma place.
@@obscure_genesis when does he use that additional max HP?
LOVE how much fun and joy these developers have seeing their game being broken in so many ways, they clearly are speedrun-affictionados ^^
It always bothered me that Retro Studios fought back against speedrun clips by fixing skips. Metroid has always been about speedrunning.
@@GenocideOwl Not really knowledgeable on that but if it involves bugs and glitches then they as developers have the right to fix that.
@@freshlymemed5680 Yeah but it makes the game less fun :(
Andrew Shouldice is really just an amazing and underrated developer. He made the game fun to play as it-is, and also fun for speedrunners, and also fun for those playing casual but re-playing and utilizing ways to get past beginnings (like finding that sword there). This game is sooo much more than just what you see.
@@freshlymemed5680they have the right to do anything with their games, that's not the point....
Tunic is a masterclass in game development and how to make an amazing game. So many "AHA" moments with only showing and figuring out.
The golden path/holy cross revalation is one of my favorite gaming moments in recent years
This Speedrun is well commented, love how much fun the devs are having with it
More games like this please. This was a 10/10 in my book.
This game is beautiful and deserves all the flowers
What console is it for?
@@astralmindny9055 Xbox and PC
@@astralmindny9055 Console? Xbox...Other platforms? PC
It's coming out for PS4 and PS5, too, on September 27th this year :)
Maybe arrange them in a pattern so that you need to put something in your D-pad :^)
Honestly this game is an absolute gem, I've played all the way till the end and unlocked the secrets and have been hooked the entire time. From the depth of the story and creative methods of introducing game mechanics to the huge extent secrets are hidden, this game is a masterpiece.
And yet there’s still more secrets to be found!
man, this game was incredible front to back. Loved every second, and it took me much longer than 24 minutes lol
Took me 24 hours to get True Ending
In this react video, Devs are actually the speedrunners. They gave better shotcut than the player was using
We need more game devs like this, that understand and appreciate the multitude of different ways people want to play games. Great job guys, and great job to the speedrunner
This one is fun because the game is so new and not even properly broken yet for speedruns. It'd be nice to see their reactions in a year.
40 seconds into the run my mind is already blown from the hidden chest there!
if that blows your mind, at the start when the items are appearing out of nowhere it's actually the player entering a sequence on their arrow keys!
@@ins0luble_678 praise the holy cross
The quit to title may not seem like a lot of sense as it didn’t give him (much) health back. However it reset the bar. When the bar is at its lowest the game thinks that he has full health even though he’d die from basically anything. Meaning the RTSR wouldn’t work properly.
Jesus. Took me forever to beat that boss.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who called it "Red Tearstone Ring" the whole time. It's such a solid concept for an ability so I'm glad to see it permeate into more games.
That was lovely. The passion these two express for the game, the fans, the run and proper balancing of fun/function with a mind toward not being annoying to the player experience... Amazing!
It is so funny to me when the runner is on the elevator and Andrew says, "This is where we read donations". Such a hilariously funny reference to something that makes sense in the speedrun community and kind of nowhere else.
At 9:17, he quits to title because he wouldn't get the damage boost from the charm otherwise. The miasma reduced his total health to almost zero, but it was technically a full health bar which negates the charm's effect.
9:15 Looks like the quit to title restores your max HP if it's been drained by Miasma. Probably to enable RTSR.
Amazing game, amazing run! Thank you for being so thoughtful devs
Recently came across this series and literally can’t stop watching now
These segments are great. Wonderful game that deserves awards.
This is one of the best games I've played in years, and one of the best games I've ever played in my life! This speedrun is super impressive as well.
Kevin is really funny, knowledgable, great mic quality, and is fun to listen too!
Love playing this game, took me two weeks collecting the book, and doing ending B! Awesome stuff 😆
Thats really quick well done!
Excellent game. Just got the platinum today in PS and loved it. You can feel the love for franchises like Zelda even Dark Souls.
My personal pick for GOTY 2022. Absolutely loved this game and wish to see more of this.
TUNIC is one of my favourite games of all time.
Love tunic, Played it on stream, great game!
The bosses in this game legitamately killed me than bosses in Elden Ring.
This has to be some of igns best content. Videos like this are really cool.
Tunic is a love letter to video games, but maybe also to speed running
Lovely commentary
This is the best indie game I've played in years
Beautiful beautiful game! The devs definately designed it to be sped run but also to be replayable as hell!
Thanks developers for a great game!
22:33 please someone make a "ring west bell" speed run category! =D
Just want to say thanks to the developers! ❤️
Just a little faster than my 18hr playthrough. 👀
Amazing definition for what a videogame is, allowing the player to play how they want and beat it with all available options. hope it wins Indie GOTY
Beautiful game, wonderful story! Love it!
Well done, Devs!
It took this video for me to realize how many games Kevin Regamey has worked on that I've liked
One of the best titles i've seen last year
Definitely getting this for the Switch
Big respect for these Devs
I'd really love Alien Isolation devs react to a speedrun.
Love these
Wow so creative with this Speedrun
Loved tunic!
The freedom that they gave the player is what made this game so great
Y pensar que despues de derrotar al boss final y creer que consegui todos las armas, encontre un pasadizo secreto debajo del punte cerca de la playa y encontre el reloj de arena (detiene el tiempo)este juego no deja de sorprenderme
Audio guy... involve in the celeste comunity.... "kevin".... is it the fabled guy who does the kevin block sound?
yes
@@emperortgp2424 what a legend
Guys, thank u for this beautiful game
As far as the predictions about how fast the speedrun would get, the fastest time as of this comment is sitting at 17 minutes 25 seconds, by GrosHiken, and nobody has been able to beat that for the past 10 months.
So the laughing guess of 16 minutes was definitely a lot closer than the serious prediction of 23 minutes.
Played the Tunic on the xbox game pass, would highly recommend playing before watching
10:40 Does anyone know how the speedrunner freezed his enemy so fast? It wasn't the dagger as it was not consumed, is it a glitch using the wand and the dagger?
It is a mechanic explained in the manual so it's intended (think it's like page 52 or 54). You can use them both at the same time for a freezing bolt.
"Why the quit to title there?"
To undo the hp drain.
That poor Siege Engine got bullied ;_;
9:15 - to restore the health bar back to max size.
9:34 "this is where we read donations" gdq😅
Very nice looking game.
Anyone know what the engine music on tunic is please devs???
3:58 does anyone know how to do that?
so they fixed effigy grapple hook glitch already? didnt get it to work... =(
28:34 and just then, they predicted it. Just a minute off, sub 22
might just have to buy this one..
gamepass for a dollar try it out and other games
@@JamFlexxnot everyone uses xbox
The quit to title was to remove the max hp reduction
How did they go to the end-boss without needing to get the Laurels? Like, why didn't the hit from the Heir cause them to go back to the beach as a ghost?
hey Andrew,
your game is godlike
Excellent game!!!
The legend of zelda: the fox awakening
Is more like 99% dark souls 1% zelda
It's nothing like zelda

Has the librarian trick @18.40 been patched out?
Speedrunners and glitch hunters are great playtesters :p
I'm not sure if it was the difficulty or cryptic manual that did it, but this game made me feel truly worthless as a player on my way to the end of my 20 hour playthrough. Speed running this game in particular is still mind-blowing to me.

wait.... you can rotate the camera?
The fox is cute
how can you frozen laser shooting ? can someone teach me
Could someone explain to me how the heck is the guy freezing enemies using the fire wand? LOL
using the ice dagger and fire wand simultaneously shoots an ice bolt
@@azurehaiku rofl
It’s in the manual 😂
Got both endings myself😎
How the HELL did he defeat the rock spider thing so easily!?!? Why did it never reorient itself??
stunlocked with the damage boost from the ring lol
It's very weird and interesting that the Audio Director knows so much about the inner workings of the deveoopment of the game way outside of the realm of audio....
took this dude 25 mins, took me 25 hours
I'm sure lots of other people will say it but... that's not the ending?
tbh ultimate magical attack indeed is very cheap, pretty sure it would be more interesting to speedrun if it costed more
Is it just me who is confused how he got those bombs at the start without a chest?
There's a d-pad code you can input once for free bombs. It's shown next to the bombs in the manual
@@loadybox2523 ok thanks
For anyone wondering how to do it, it is left, up, right, down, right, up, right, down, right, up, right, down, left, either on your dpad or arrow keys on pc.
Could someone explain to me how this guy gets the bombs in the very beginning? Something to do with the Holy Cross? If it's that, what's the visual cue for it?
In the manual, check the items page.
This game would do well on Switch, Xbox glues me to the TV.
Mhm mhm interesting 🤔😭 love this
And for all those effort the speed runner was sent to fox jail :P.
Don't really get how they killed the librarian
As soon as the boss fight properly starts, a kill zone spawns below the arena that kills everything that touches it. They manage to get below this kill zone before it spawns while the Fight Start cut scene is playing.
The fight starts, the librarian is aggroed and wants to approach the fox, but of course then touches the kill zone and instantly dies! 🤗
how was the librarian killed?
trigger the boss battle with the effigy while you're not in the boss room, so the camera is all messed up, and climbing down the ladder makes the boss die when it touches the insta-kill out of bounds area in the air.
5:30 wait, really? why?
because spoilers.
here's a hint that probably won't ruin the entire game for you: because one ending requires you to get help from "outside" the game
can anyone explain how they get consumables out of thin air?
That one's actually not even a glitch, but completely intended to be discoverable in a normal playthrough, with an in-game hint. In case you haven't played the game that far, this is probably a SPOILER even if I'm being vague on purpose, so bear that in mind.
On the manual page listing the various items, there's something you may have previously seen and wondered about; that trick can be used once per playthrough for each of those specific consumables.
Great game. Great run. Great video. Ty
Can they pleaase release it for ps5 already
Nice, they explain why the difficult of this game, a lot of people complain about the difficult now it's clear the choice they take
