Excellent video. I am not a big fan of Apple, but the synths you can get on an ipad are quite decent and the connectivity is truly simple.

Great and helpful video! I've got an Ipad air and I want to use it with my band. I want to buy a medium size controller ( max 49 keys). One I like very much is Alesis VI49, but Alesis support can't tell me if I could use it with the ipad! On the other hand, I like Novation Launchkey, and someone recomended me the Roland A300 pro. This one i s perfect for the size, but I prefer to have 16 pads and Alesis Keys look better. Any advice about what to choose? The main intention is simple chords and melodies, and launch effects from it.
I know for sure I will need teh camera connectiion kit. But should I get more gear with these controllers? Is it mandatory to get out the sound from the headphones output? Is the quality good enough?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

First, although keyboard is supplied with power by an external source, I still got the pop up screen which said that "device requires too much power" (keyboard is Nektar Panorama P6). Second, what I did was that I connected it through USB hub, which wasn't even powered, and it worked! What the hell is going on?

Worth noting that the iPad Air series does not work like this. They do not provide enough power so one will need a powered USB hub or the connector with USB to Lightening AND with Lightening In (for external power to the connector).

Weird... I read it would not work with the Lightning to USB and a non-powered keyboard on the Air series. Tried it myself yesterday with GarageBand on my Air 2 with a cheap non-powered USB midi keyboard to no avail.
But then again; I am new to Apple and I might do something wrong.
I am waiting for my proper midi cable to connect the Yamaha DTX M12 as that does not work with the USB camera connector either.
