    If you are interested in having sheet music on your iPad and you want to have that sheet music change programs, songs/patches on your Nord keyboard, this video is for you. Demonstrated here with the Nord Stage 3, we take a close look at forScore, an Apple App for your iPad that allows you to take music (in the form a PDF) and have that displayed on your iPad.
    From there you have control to mark up the music, change pages via a remote MIDI device or even add a button to change the song/program on your Nord Keyboard. This video specifically discusses how to connect your iPad using wireless Bluetooth MIDI via the Yamaha MD-BT01. Also discussed is the iRig MIDI and the Yamaha UD-BT01 USB to Host MIDI adapters as alternative ways to connect your keyboard to an Apple iPad.

    forScore includes the same functionality as MIDI-Wrench - you can switch on the Bluetooth-MIDI-IN/OUT plugs on forScore: Settings -> MIDI -> Bluetooth-Midi-Devices -> MD-BT01 "connect"... Maybe this may help... 🙂

      @@MyKeysToMusic thanks for the response! Do you know about a pdf list of some sort, that represents all the nord banks/presets and the midi Programm changes that refer to/ trigger them? @@Fabricks_music Great idea about the program changes list. In fact, I have made a list for this already for the Nord Stage 3, the Nord Wave 2, and the Nord Electro 6. These lists (PDF files) are all available within each professional course in the lesson for "OnSong" where I demonstrate how to change programs using OnSong. (OnSong is a bit like forScore and can change programs in a similar way). So, these lists are available to all students enrolled in those courses as an additional way to add value for those making the investment in the pro training. 👍
      In addition to finding it within each of the pro training courses, I also make these lists available on my Patreon account which is a very simple way to get all the lists by becoming a member of that. The price is much lower if you just want to grab and go and are not ready to take on the full training. On Patreon, you'll find the lists under the post for "OnSong".

    Hey Marc, I just ordered the NS4 😀
    Since it has no songmode (unfortunately) I'm gonna use my Androidtablet with the Mobilesheets app (= essentially forscore for android) to do the part changes. As bluetooth wireless device I'll use the CME Widimaster which seems to have beter specs then the Yamaha you demonstrate. (I've no connection with CME btw) . In the NS4 manual the midi controller list doesn't mention yet the numbers to use so I'll try those from NS3.
    This just to let you know.
    And thanks for your livestream on NS4. You were right on most expectations. I change from NS3 to NS4 especially because of the keybed. And the extra synth is nice too. Unfortunately no more then 2 Gb piano memory already on NS3 and I regret also they didn't re-implement the led-accompanied effect buttons (as on NS2) which I found particularly useful when using morph: on NS3/4 you can't see what morphing does. But still: Nord makes great instruments!

    Can you please advise on which iPad I should buy for this whole procedure you videoed. This is exactly what i want to do live. i will put the ipad on a holder probably. also, i will sing and maybe use some mp3 tracks that I create. So, an iPad that will give me all these functions. Thanks again.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 15 dny

      @solojim Hey Jim. Anything being sold in an Apple store today should easily handle anything that forScore can throw at it. So, find the size you like and get something in your budget in that size. If you want something that will "last longer" - from a processing standpoint, you could go Pro. You might like the really big screens they offer too. However, even the basic "IPad" model (their base model) could easily run forScore. Honestly, I'd let size be your biggest decision and then work your way back from that.
      *More commentary about this:* If this is your first iPad, consider this. They are very versatile. You could use it for your music on one day, and then watch movies from it the next. If you do plan on getting into "music composition/recording" and want to use it as a DAW, then you might lean a little towards getting a more powerful one. However, I'm of the opinion that it's easier to compose music with a DAW that is computer-based versus an iPad. But that could be me just being a computer-oriented dude since 1986. My mouse and keyboard can run circles around anything I could possibly create on the iPad. But for the forScore stuff, it's great and many musicians (as you know) are using the iPad to replace the piles of paper-oriented sheet music running around everywhere. It does work well for a set-list controller, too. 👍
      Best of luck!

I have a video that explains the MSB and LSB stuff via the Extern feature in the full paid course on my site and in the interest of keeping value in the course for the existing students, I'm going to keep it there. But it's the same concept on the Stage 3. When a program changes, you can have the Stage 3 send "on load" program changes through the Extern area and you'll find this in the system settings of your Stage 3. There you'll see the same MSB and LSB options just like you do in the video here. Good luck with this and thanks for watching! Full course link in the description above if interested.

      Does your course provide step by step instructions on how to connect multiple modules, set midi channels, discuss wether a midi patch bay is needed and if so how to incorporate that device? Align with how to identify and apply MSB and LSB values along with program change midi CC so I can press a program on the Nord stage 3 and have it change the programs on all of my modules? If so, Id be glad to pay for your course. I would prefer a one time charge as opposed to a monthly commitment as most of the other content I am fairly familiar with. Again... thank you so much for your great work here on CZcams. I would love to have the knowledge to be able to present the information as you do with clever graphics and sound quality. Like the Desktop version of GarageBand, it doesn't appear to have the ability to send MIDI signals outbound to externally connected keyboards. I make different patches now, 3-10 per song depending on the song, and put them in order in song mode. Works fantastic. Now, would it be possible to give these Nord programs a 'midi number' and let ableton time my predets? I time the ableton presets already and would like ableton to tell Nord the same ;)

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 2 lety

      Hello @Nathan Daniel. The answer is yes. You could have Ableton send a program change directly to the song mode area. The trick is that you have to set specific MSB and LSB numbers. This can be tricky at first and if you've never done it before. I have a lesson that talks about this for the program area (not in song mode) found in the Master the Nord Stage 3 course. If you were to sign up, I could make one specific to song mode and Ableton for you. I assume it's Ableton Live? If you want to tackle this directly, you can check out the Stage 3 manual in the MIDI area where it talks about MSB and LSB.

    Hello, thanks a lot for this video, it is a great solution. When using 2 keyboards on stage, do I use 2 MD-BT01 to make the program change, on the keyboards at the same time? Or do I have to connect the 2 keyboards together trough midi.

      Hello Jean-Paul. Great news! I just tested connecting two Nord Keyboards with MIDI over Bluetooth. One keyboard was connected to the MD-BT01 and the other was connected to the UD-BT01. I then used MIDI Wrench to connect the two on the iPad. Then in forScore, I simply added a second program change when the song opens. (I could also make 2 buttons - one button for Nord 1 and one button for Nord 2). When you do this, just make sure that you assign the keyboards to different MIDI channels. I think this method would be much easier (more reliable) than trying to daisy chain one Nord to the other. So use 2 Bluetooth devices and you should be good to go. Please report back if you take these steps and confirm after you test on your end too pls.

    So Marc, great video. Really informative. Just a question... if you go down the Yamaha route to implement wireless program changes, can you still wirelessly turn pages? If you use the wireless Bluetooth for the program changes I assume you then can’t turn pages. Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi James. I don't see why this wouldn't work. I assume that the signals to turn the pages are independent of the signals that send the program changes. The question is will the page turn mechanism force the "on load" mechanism as well? I'm leaning towards "no problem, this should work" but I don't have a definite way to prove it at the moment. If you come to find this out before we do, let us know how it goes please! Thanks for the great question.

      @solojim Hey Jim. I love the look of that program you found, "Stage Traxx3" because it seems to specialize in just the chord chart (versus the complete sheet music). Also, the MIDI-wrench was required for older versions of the iPad and software. Nowadays, you will likely be able to directly connect your device to a given wireless MIDI solution without the need for a helper program such as MIDI wrench. By the way, I'm now recommending the WIDI products from CME as they are more modern and flexible than the previous versions of Yamaha products etc. Here's an affiliate link to research this solution: - Wireless MIDI system (CME WIDI Master, Wireless MIDI): amzn.to/3wTcWOt

    It appears that starting with forScore 3.1, there is no need for MIDI Wrench to make the wireless (using the Yamaha MD-BT01) connection. I've been successful connecting with only Forscore Settings / MIDI / Bluetooth MIDI Devices / MD-BT01 and no MIDI Wrench.

    First of all: Great video! It’s really useful. Is it possible to control 2 keyboards simultaneously with 2 MD-BT01 connected to the same iPad? I need to change program at my NS3 and Wave at the same time and I used to have the Wave receive PC from the NS3, which isn’t possible with the MD-BT01, since it’s occupying both midi in + out.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Andreas! So yes, this should be very possible because forScore allows for MULTIPLE MIDI settings (program changes) when you load a new piece of music thereby allowing you to change to multiple keyboards at the same time (each on their own MIDI channel of course). Along with this, the MIDI Wrench software also allows simultaneous connections to multiple Bluetooth MIDI devices which is also necessary. Although I didn't test this personally, I'm feeling confident that this should work for you based on the two MIDI devices I have here from Yamaha and the fact that both can be connected via the iPad at the same time. Good luck and please report back if you pursue this to confirm it for all of us. Thanks!

      @@MyKeysToMusic It works - and it's really simple to do the setup:
      It requires 2 x MD-BT101 + the software "MIDI Wrench" and "forScore" mentioned in the video.
      Simply type two different MIDI-commands for your normal program-change - I made it work by using the commands:
      NS3: Ch 1, MSB 0, LSB 0, (program destination)
      Nord Wave: Ch 2, MSB 0, LSB 0, (program destination)

      Thank you Milan! Unfortunately, I don't think this is possible at all. The Nord Triple Pedal is a one-trick wonder designed to imitate pedal noise and all the things that these traditional piano pedals do for the Stage 3 piano engine. There is no way to reprogram these pedals or use one as an external MIDI page-turner trigger as you suggested. This is a NEAT idea however and you are really good to think outside the box on that one. This is the first time anyone asked a question like this but I really like the concept.

    Dear Marc, you are an angel.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety

      Hey Karl! Great question here. So, if you want to have it change the song instead of the program, you can simply change the MSB number to 1 instead of 0 in the software. I briefly cover that in the video at approx 12:08 czcams.com/video/D1sWPR-k7oE/video.html
      With the Nord Stage 3, you can change from four different areas like so:
      MSB: 0 = Programs
      MSB: 1 = Songs
      MSB: 2 = Synth Presets
      MSB: 6 = Live list

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety +2

      @@KalleCanto Hello! Not to worry here. Song mode on a Nord Stage 3 works in a slightly more advanced way. Because songs have parts (5 parts for each song to be exact), you have to calibrate your program numbers in groups of 5 instead of 1. Also, keep in mind that the program numbers are still zero-based in song mode so you have to compensate for that too. Finally, the MIDI numbers (LSB groupings) used by the Nord Song list are based on 0-124 (for a total of 125 locations). So, you'll have to think in MIDI groups of 125 every time you increment the LSB number. Note this differs from what is written in the manual (English version, Edition "L", page 52). The manual states that LSB grouping is 0-99 for song lists but I have found it to be similar to the program list which is grouped as 0-124. Here are some examples which will make this a bit more clear hopefully:
      Song 1:01, Part 1 = LSB: 0, Program: 0
      Song 1:01, Part 3 = LSB: 0, Program: 2
      Song 1:02, Part 1 = LSB: 0, Program: 5
      Song 1:02, Part 4 = LSB: 0, Program: 8
      Song 1:13, Part 1 = LSB: 0, Program: 60
      Song 1:13, Part 5 = LSB: 0, Program 64
      Song 1:26, Part 1 = LSB: 1, Program 0
      Song 1:27, Part 2 = LSB: 1, Program 6
      Song 1:48, Part 3 = LSB: 1, Program 112
      Song 2:01, Part 1 = LSB, 2, Program 0
      Song 2:05, Part 1 = LSB: 2, Program 20
      Song 3:17, Part 3 = LSB: 4, Program 82
      Someone who has time could create a mathematical formula to calculate this perhaps! Since there are 8 banks of 50 songs each, that means there are 2,000 song parts that are selectable in this way!

      @Milan Michielsen-Stevens Thanks for your question and sorry for the delay. Yes, I tested this just now and it works with JUST the MIDI out (from the Nord keyboard MIDI out only). In fact, the MIDI out port appears to be where the MD-BT101 gets the power from. Let's hope that your multi-effect pedal powers the MIDI out port too. So yes, I think you should have no problem with this. Incidentally, I tested it with only the MIDI In and that doesn't work because the power light didn't on the MD-BT101. So, the MIDI out is the minimum requirement so it would seem. Good luck and report back if you can.
