  • 🛁Tub Drain 🛁
I had a heck of a time with this plastic American Standard Tub Drain
If you cross thread it.....it's pretty much done
This Everbilt Brass Drain Assembly is way easier to install - bit.ly/3QIo7nn
💯 silicone will be your friend for setting drain assemblies on these old tubs
Use a tub wrench to help tighten drain flange into tub shoe
If you over tighten, the rubber gasket will push out from around tub shoe
Be sure the rubber gasket stays centered under shoe
The overflow is just as important as tub drain
Use plenty of silicone to ensure a good seal 👍
In this scenario I have 2" piping coming over to tub
A street 45 fitting was needed to angle over to connect trap
The tread-in tail piece for trap assembly is a common area to have a leak
Add silicone or pipe sealant to seal into assembly
When gluing trap arm in place, be sure to maintain level to ensure a plumb connection to drain assembly
    2" street 45
    2" - 1 1/2" bushing
    1 1/2" solvent weld P-trap
    1 1/2" female trap adapter

That sounds crazy you paid more for the plastic then the brass 😮 💪👌✌️

It really is crazy, and now it’s almost double the price of brass. $130 for that POS American standard drain

Home Reno’s is one area where a robot isn’t going to be doing for at least a century. All those hookups are so subjective based upon experience, accessibility of a variety of components, etc.

Brass works great when the tub and trap line up correctly (when you can't move I when already under the slab)

It's always easier to set the drain and overflow before setting the tub. Final connection when set.On a new tub.You can struggle with an existing tub on the replumb. You can turn the drain left until it clicks, then turn right. That means it fell in place to align with the threads.

Im remodeling my bathroom and the previous builder has incased the sink and toilet plumbing in concrete so i was wondering if its acceptable to have a 90° and about 4 inches pvc level until i start my 1/4 inch slope per foot for the drain.

Can that vent for the tub drain run horizontally below flood level rim? Not being a stickler, just curious if I'm seeing that right and if my code is right. Big fan of your videos and your work.

American Standard also sells brass tub drain kits that work.

I’ll have to look into, probably $400 😆

I used one for my American Standard tub I got through Ferguson, I think it was less than $150. One thing I didn't like about it was it was a universal kit designed 40 years ago for many tub sizes, I actually had to cut it smaller to fit my 14" high tub.

have any examples with concrete floor and walls? PS: don't encourage power tools on technical final finish items ...
