I always said that the “wipers convert electricity into noise but don’t do much for the rain on the windshield”. I retired last year as a B737 Capt. And don’t miss it.
I worked as a sim tech with a 1000 hour simulator flight time training military fighter pilots but found it actually boring as a full time job. Flying is not that much fun and flying civilian aircraft is even more boring. Btw, most of my friends are civilian pilots..

Random question: Just from watching the Yoke always looks so unergonomic to be controlled by one hand because the hand is off center. Aren't sticks, like they're used in many Jets or nowadays also in the Airbus much more ergonomic?

@@Leif_YT The advantage of a stick is you can put in large control inputs very quickly. Essential in aerobatics or in a manoeuvrable fighter. The advantage of a yoke is it takes up less room between the pilot's legs. I've never flown a sidestick aircraft so can't comment on that.

That definitely looked challenging. And it's incredible how fast the aircraft is actually moving relative to our eyes following it. It was in the air then boom on the runaway in a flash. Pilots did a great job.

I'm sure there was some tension due to the weather but this flight actually meant a lot to him because his father was also a pilot and 45 years before this landing had crashed and died at that same airport. So landing there means a lot for the pilot.

Ese tipo de yoke parece generar mayor tensión en el bazo del piloto que uno con diseño convencional. Sobre todo en el alabeo, no sé si los pilotos de este fabricante pueden aportar alguna ventaja sobre el diseño o afirmar lo que parece evidente..

I came in Kansai airport from Seoul about 20yrs ago and it was just the start of a Typhoon. It made this landing look like a picnic. Horizontal rain sudden drops and updraft felt like a roller coaster, there wasnt one person on that plane that wasnt shiteing themselves including the pilot, women crying many praying including myself. When we touched down the pilot appologised for the bad weather and you could hear the adrenalin in his voice, we were the last to land then they shutdown the airport. The winds were so bad that even the train shuttle was shutdown for risk of blowing over. Had to take a bus and it could only drive about 20kph over the bridge as it was on the verge of blowing over. I still to this day amazed that we landed in one piece .
@@tudomerda It's an ERJ with spoilers deployed the ailerons aren't doing anything. Hell, they might even actuate up to act as extra spoilers (though I think i would have seen it by now if the did).

@@MillionFoul Holding windward wing down after touchdown prevents that wing from being raised due to it having more lift than the opposite wing due to crosswind thereby preventing loss of longitudinal ground control, It also prevents "wheel barrow" effect with nose gear if that wing is raised. Small jet pilots think they are immune to this but its a technique which is applicable to all aircraft. Crosswind limits exist for a reason, especially for wet or contaminated (snow, ice) runways, Memorise these limits.

They might be "crazy" for some, but indispensable in certain conditions. Just don't mind the sound they make. Appreciate the individual speed settings for each wiper (Captain or F.O), and clearer vision during precipitations. Many airport ground crews had their lives spared thanks to them. Landing and taxiing in very stormy and dark weather is the reason why they belong. Memories of a beloved Twin Otter DHC-6 de Havilland Canada comes to mind. Superb wiper linkages and blade effectiveness on the Twin Otter. More so on those memories of passed red eye flights around Hudson Bay. Been there... CYUL PS: Hat's off Embraer E-Jet family!
Durante un par de años he volado con frecuencia a Bilbao, casi siempre en el primer o segundo VY de la mañana desde Barcelona. Al ser vuelos muy tempraneros, solía desayunar en el avión...la cantidad de veces que me he arrepentido! Suelen ser aterrizajes divertidos, y alguno de ellos acojona hasta al viajero más frecuente.

Note: the co-pilot turns the wipers on at approximately :10 into the video. He looks ahead, then quickly readjust to a higher speed, on the Captain's side. The rain seemed to produce a )ot of turbulence, as the aircraft has a lot of movement (vertically and horizontally) based on the body movements. The camera movement might add to the illusion. The captain has sunglasses which could be hindering his vision during the rain, but perhaps they are reducing glare... only he knows. I did not hear a call out for minimums, but perhaps they were already below the decision point with the runway visible. As the aircraft entered the runway threshold 2 whites and 2 red of the ILS are visible on the left indicating the aircraft was on the correct glide slope path. The Captain continues with a lot of yoke movement and successfully lands and taxis off the runway, but I wonder how much was he using the the rudder, and wish there was a closer view of the instrument panels. Considering how much the Captain seemed to struggle with the yoke, I'm surprised he didn't perform a go- around, or head to an alternate airport - unless he was too low on fuel. Great job landing in those conditions. As others have commented, you can tell he breathe a sigh of relief!

Note: the co-pilot turns the wipers on at approximately :10 into the video. He looks ahead, then quickly readjust to a higher speed, on the Captain's side. The rain seemed to produce a )ot of turbulence, as the aircraft has a lot of movement (vertically and horizontally) based on the body movements. The camera movement might add to the illusion. The captain has sunglasses which could be hindering his vision during the rain, but perhaps they are reducing glare... only he knows. I did not hear a call out for minimums, but perhaps they were already below the decision point with the runway visible. As the aircraft entered the runway threshold 2 whites and 2 red of the ILS are visible on the left indicating the aircraft was on the correct glide slope path. The Captain continues with a lot of yoke movement and successfully lands and taxis off the runway, but I wonder how much was he using the the rudder, and wish there was a closer view of the instrument panels. Considering how much the Captain seemed to struggle with the yoke, I'm surprised he didn't perform a go- around, or head to an alternate airport - unless he was too low on fuel. Great job landing in those conditions. As others have commented, you can tell he breathe a sigh of relief!
The pilot controls the wheel like a F1 driver but on the outside the airplane looks like it flys with not much control (smooth).
